Thorpe Water Frolic, Afternoon (1824), Norfolk Museums Collections Stannard's masterpiece, and his most important commission, is Thorpe Frolic, Afternoon (1824), an oil painting that shows a large festival—part sporting event and part social occasion—held on the river Yare at Thorpe, east of Norwich.
