Lawrence was to be sworn-in as minister without portfolio the same day, but resigned from the cabinet. Lawrence was instrumental in getting the Nova Scotia Government to support handicapped parking and making Halifax - Dartmouth and Nova Scotia more "handicapped friendly" during his time in government.1978-1993. Under his portfolio installed elevator in Province House making the Nova Scotia Legislature accessible for the first time for those who are disabled.

Vergason also intended for "works of art" to be placed around the memorial site, although the nature of these artworks had yet to be determined. The revised design still returned C Street SW to its original configuration in the L'Enfant Plan. All steps and grade changes were eliminated and special-needs parking along C Street SW increased to make the memorial more handicapped-accessible. The CFA received an update on this first revision in July 2005.

In June 2001, the Akron Civic Theatre closed its doors for the most expensive and extensive renovation in its seventy-five year history. The renovation cost just over $19 million, which included additional restroom facilities, new concession stands, and expansion of the lobbies. The renovation allowed for the Civic to better serve customers with special needs by adding more handicapped seating and a new elevator. To bring the theatre up to new standards, the dressing rooms were all redone, and the stage was expanded from twenty-six feet to forty feet.

Celtic cross on Bon Air Presbyterian Church lawn during snow storm at night.On Palm Sunday in 1963, the Bon Air Presbyterian Church held its first service in their new church, and the little original Presbyterian chapel became the place of worship for the Bon Air Christian Church. By 1995, the new Bon Air Presbyterian Church building was expanded to include a larger sanctuary, fellowship hall, kitchen, classrooms, and a redesigned roof that covered all of the church’s additions. In 2018 a lengthy architectural renovation and updating to make the building safer and more handicapped-accessible was completed.

During that time, a new third floor was added in space formerly occupied by a choir loft (from the building's Christian Association period) and a new climate- controlled Sensitive Artifact Facility and Environment space was added to maintain "appropriate storage, humidity, and temperature requirements for optimal artifact longevity." A new registry, conservation lab, objects study area, water-sprinkler fire control system, security system, and elevator to the new third floor were added. The building was also made more handicapped accessible. The $1.3 million project was funded by a $250,000 gift from Eugene M. and Emily Grant of New York City, along with grants from the University of Michigan and the National Endowment for the Humanities, as well as funding from the Kelsey Museum Associates and other private contributions.
