A situation- comedy, it was a spin-off from The Fenn Street Gang featuring George Baker as East End criminal Stanley Bowler. The basic premise of the series revolves around Bowler's attempts to develop (and to project to others) a more-cultured personality, as he tries (but fails) to understand the fine arts, and to move into higher social circles.

Instead of combat, the emphasis is that Chiron’s weapons are only used for hunting and there are no signs of savage behaviour. In addition to Achilles’ descriptions of the physical lessons Chiron gives him he also refers to a more cultured education, > He fixed in my mind the precepts of sacred justice (2.163–4).

The Ruthenian language became official after the Christianization, for it had more developed written tradition and, maybe, because of negative attitude of Orthodox nobles towards the Lithuanian language.

The name of the society was arrived at after Gong Yi suggested 'London' sounded more cultured than 'UK' and upon Cheng Yu suggesting 'Youlan' (meaning "solitary orchid", the name of a famous guqin melody), Gong Yi informed her that that was the name of his daughter by coincidence.

Meeting of Druze and Ottoman leaders in Damascus, about the control of Jebel Druze The conquest of Syria by the Muslim Arabs in the middle of the seventh century introduced into the land two political factions later called the Qaysites and the Yemenites. The Qaysite party represented the Bedouin Arabs who were regarded as inferior by the Yemenites who were earlier and more cultured emigrants into Syria from southern Arabia. Druzes and Christians grouped in political, rather than religious, parties; the party lines in Lebanon obliterated ethnic and religious lines and the people grouped themselves into one or the other of these two parties regardless of their religious affiliations. The sanguinary feuds between these two factions depleted, in course of time, the manhood of the Lebanon and ended in the decisive battle of Ain Dara in 1711, which resulted in the utter defeat of the Yemenite party.

Included in Srazhenie pod Peterburgom, the novel Izmena [Betrayal] is the heroine's lyric confession as she goes back and forth between her old lover Vakhid and younger husband Aldo, accentuating the question of how women perceive physiology (of sexual desire). In the traditional culture, the latter is either silenced or carefully studied through masculine reasoning; in Meklina's texts the emancipation of these very "physiological feelings" produce a more cultured outlook.

After the separation with Malaysia, it was thought that it is necessary to galvanise the people of Singapore to view themselves as citizens of a new and independent nation. It is important to leverage on the common experiences of the people to engineer a shared identity. The urban resettlement programme, National Service, and the arts were therefore envisaged to be the pillars of 'nationalism'. However, slowly, there emerged a general sense that Singapore society was highly industrial, albeit lacking in refinement, as commented by Mr. Rajaratnam: "Music, painting, drama, literature and a concern for beauty generally are what transforms a prosperous society into a civilized society." Moreover, there was also the problem of “unhealthy, yellow culture” as per 'West' influenced. As a result, arts is used to shape the citizenry into a more “cultured” image, and several initiatives were launched by the National Theatre Trust (NTT). For instance, it later proposed to promote professional shows “like the Georgia State Ballet, the Bolshoi Ballet”.
