It was dominated by singers such as Grigoris Bithikotsis, Marinella, Stelios Kazantzidis, Panos Gavalas and others. Among the most significant songwriters and lyricists of this period are considered George Zambetas, Manolis Hiotis and Vassilis Tsitsanis; of course the big names of this kind are still in Greek business. The more cheerful version of laïkó, called elafró laïkó (ελαφρολαϊκό, elafrolaïkó 'light laïkó') and it was often used in musicals during the Golden Age of Greek cinema.
The Frog Prince is a play by American author, essayist, playwright, screenwriter and film director David Mamet. The play is about half an hour long and tells the traditional story of the haughty prince who has been placed under a spell which has turned him into a frog and can only be restored to his original form by a willing kiss. The play is more cheerful than most of Mamet's work and contains none of the coarse language for which he is known. The Frog Prince was first presented in 1982 in Chicago at Goodman Theatre by the Remains Theatre Ensemble.
Like Big Brother's Orders of the day, Stalin's frequently lauded heroic individuals, like Comrade Ogilvy, the fictitious hero Winston Smith invented to "rectify" (fabricate) a Big Brother Order of the day. The Ingsoc slogan "Our new, happy life", repeated from telescreens, evokes Stalin's 1935 statement, which became a CPSU slogan, "Life has become better, Comrades; life has become more cheerful." In 1940, Argentine writer Jorge Luis Borges published "Tlön, Uqbar, Orbis Tertius", which describes the invention by a "benevolent secret society" of a world that would seek to remake human language and reality along human-invented lines. The story concludes with an appendix describing the success of the project.
Strawberry Hill House in 2012 after restoration Strawberry Hill House—often called simply Strawberry Hill—is the Gothic Revival villa that was built in Twickenham, London by Horace Walpole (1717–1797) from 1749 onward. It is the type example of the "Strawberry Hill Gothic" style of architecture, and it prefigured the nineteenth-century Gothic Revival. Walpole rebuilt the existing house in stages starting in 1749, 1760, 1772 and 1776. These added Gothic features such as towers and battlements outside and elaborate decoration inside to create "gloomth" to suit Walpole's collection of antiquarian objects, contrasting with the more cheerful or "riant"The term is from French, literally meaning 'laughing'. garden.
In his book Enquiries into Plants of circa 300 BC, Theophrastus described (among plants that affect the mind) a shrub he called onotheras, which modern editors render oleander; "the root of onotheras [oleander] administered in wine", he alleges, "makes the temper gentler and more cheerful". > The plant has a leaf like that of the almond, but smaller, and the flower is > red like a rose. The plant itself (which loves hilly country) forms a large > bush; the root is red and large, and, if this is dried, it gives off a > fragrance like wine. In another mention, of "wild bay" (Daphne agria), Theophrastus appears to intend the same shrub.
Artist Tetsuo Hara originally depicted Kenshiro as a teenager who fought against the rival martial arts school of the Taizanji Kenpō in the 1980s Japan in his two-part prototype version of Hokuto no Ken. This version of the character was given the full name of . In this setting, Kenshiro was the 23rd successor of Hokuto Shinken, preceded by his unnamed father, who in turn learned the art from the 21st successor, Master . This Kenshiro was much more cheerful than the Kenshiro of the serialized manga, having yet to experience the same hardships at the start of the story and lacking his iconic seven scars.
Retrieved 13 August 2013. Scandipop considered the song her best one throughout her career, writing "Instantly catchy, it’s the sort of one-listen-and-you’re-hooked kind of thing that we subscribe to so heavily around these parts. “mind the gap, mind the girl, da-da-da-da-da-da-daaaa” (not the actual lyrics)."Nabiha: ‘Mind The Gap’. At the beginning of Great Guardians, she and Kan'u fight until she is struck by lightning.Ikki Tousen: Great Guardians, episode 1 She is supposedly dead, however, she reappears to Ryomou without any memory of her past.Ikki Tousen: Great Guardians episode 3 she went to Rakuyo in search of clues regarding her past, there being abducted by Ouin and brainwashed by the real Genpou Saji, thus gaining a more cheerful but visibily false persona. From there on, she played with Ouin so as to fill Ryomou with jealousy until Saji herself was discovered, when she was turned into a frenzied berserk as a mean of halting Hakufu and her companions.
But in some quarters he was unpopular and in Nottingham the crowds that gathered following his assassination were in more cheerful mood. Public monuments to Perceval were erected in Northampton, Lincoln's Inn and Westminster Abbey. Four biographies have been published: a book on his life and administration by Charles Verulam Williams, which appeared soon after his death; his grandson Spencer Walpole's biography in 1894; Philip Treherne's short biography in 1909; Denis Gray's 500-page political biography in 1963. In addition there are three books about his assassination, one by Mollie Gillen, one by David Hanrahan, and the latest by Andro Linklater entitled Why Spencer Perceval Had to Die.
A generally positive review by Pitchfork praised the album's more cheerful melodies and hopeful lyrics, while noting the melancholy sound of the band's previous releases was intact on many of the songs. Will Johnson from the band Centro-matic accompanied the band on the US leg of its autumn 2008 tour. ;Overseas and Snow (2017) In June 2012 drummer Chris Brokaw posted on his website that "The New Year has begun work on a new LP in Chicago, again with Mr. Steve Albini at the controls." In early 2012 Bubba and Matt Kadane formed Overseas with David Bazan of Pedro The Lion and Will Johnson of Centro- matic.
The addition of the leftover pork cutlet character Tonkatsu shifted the focus. Yokomizo said in 2015 that characters like Tonkatsu and Tapioca were inspired by a feeling of pity for that which is left over. In 2019 Yokomizo said that some parts of the books are based on her own experiences, like a scene where the characters are afraid of answering the phone. In 2019, The Japan Times described Sumikko Gurashi as being part of a trend which first began with the release of the San-X character Rilakkuma in 2003, where characters have more negative personality traits compared to earlier kawaii (cute) characters which were more cheerful or bland.
Later it was revealed that she has the innate ability to detect virus presence (which she didn't realize), and later was used by this mysterious man to search for the "missing little girl". It is noted that she got a big personality change in the 2nd season, from the cold, no-nonsense villain in the 1st season into a ditzy, much more cheerful and girly attitude in the 2nd season. In the series finale, she even got her own Corrector suit (dubbed "Corrector Freeze" by some fans). ; : :Despite his bulk size and his strength, Jaggy is (arguably) the most knowledgeable (though not the most talented) of all Grosser's henchmen.
With Vice President Roosevelt and much of the cabinet hastening to the bedside of McKinley, who had been operated on (it was thought successfully) soon after the shooting, Hay planned to go to Washington to manage the communication with foreign governments, but presidential secretary George Cortelyou urged him to come to Buffalo. He traveled to Buffalo on September 10; hearing on his arrival an account of the President's recovery, Hay responded that McKinley would die. He was more cheerful after visiting McKinley, giving a statement to the press, and went to Washington, as Roosevelt and other officials also dispersed. Hay was about to return to New Hampshire on the 13th, when word came that McKinley was dying.
"Moscow-Volga Canal" In 1939, a rationing plan was considered but not implemented because it would undermine the propaganda of improving care for the people, whose lives grew better and more cheerful every year.Lewis Stegelbaum and Andrei Sokolov, Stalinism As A Way Of Life, p253 During World War II, the slogans were altered from overcoming backwardness to overcoming the "fascist beast" but continued focus on production.Richard Overy, Why the Allies Won p 188-9 The slogan proclaimed "Everything for the Front!"Robert Service, A History of Modern Russia, from Nicholas II to Putin p 278 Teams of Young Communists were used as shocktroops to shame workers into higher production as well as spread socialist propaganda.
I decided to kill my sisters, and then destroy the flower. (Branch D, Verse 7) The player controls Zero, who is now considered a traitor by the Intoners and their followers because of her mission to kill them. Aiding her on her quest is the dragon , who aids her and is her mount in aerial battle. The other five Intoners are: , the current ruler of the Intoners; , the more cheerful member of the group and ruler of the Country of Sand; , ruler of the Country of Forest and an obsessive over dolls; , ruler of the Country of Mountain and the only virgin of the group; and , ruler of the Country of Sea and a woman consumed by greed for everything.
Banji, who is the coach for Yamabuki. She constantly yells, but she is considered to be a great and reliable coach. She has a good relationship with her regulars and participates in their recreational group activities: the bowling reunion and the beach-volley mini-tournament with Rokkaku Middle School. For the Prince of Tennis live action movie, Ryuzaki's whole personality and back story was changed: she also had Ryoma's father in her tennis team a couple of years ago, and instead of being a middle-aged teacher and ex-coach to Nanjiro Echizen, she is portrayed as a young and more cheerful woman as well as a former classmate of Nanjiro's, who was her reason for playing tennis and becoming the coach.
These now form Cove Cottage. A description of the Cove was recorded as follows, " Mullion Cove contains a Mill worked by a stream running down through the valley, some fish cellars and a few humble cottages, on which last, owing to the height of the rising ground behind them, the sun, in the winter months, never shines. In one of these lives an old man who has been blind for many years who ... is glad indeed when the month of March is come, for he finds his solitary walk up and down the road in front of his cottage more cheerful when he feels the blessed sunshine falling on his sightless eyes". At this time there was one Fishing family recorded as living in the cove.
Academy of Music, New York, c.1909 Hanukkah celebration by the Young Men's Hebrew Association at the Academy of Music, December 16, 1880 The Academy of Music was a New York City opera house, located on the northeast corner of East 14th Street and Irving Place in Manhattan. The 4,000-seat hall opened on October 2, 1854. The review in The New York Times declared it to be an acoustical "triumph", but "In every other aspect ... a decided failure," complaining about the architecture, interior design and the closeness of the seating; although a follow-up several days later relented a bit, saying that the theater "looked more cheerful, and in every way more effective" than it had on opening night.
For the anime adaptations following Fate/Zero, the staff wanted to make the character more serious in his interactions with the other characters while also giving him a more cheerful personality in contrast to the original visual novel. Shirou is regularly voiced in Japanese by Noriaki Sugiyama as a teenager and Junko Noda as a child; multiple voice actors have voiced him in the English releases of the anime adaptations. Critics have commented on Shirou's different characterizations; his role in each part of the original Fate/stay night visual novel has received positive reaction due to his character development and relationship with the character Archer. Shirou's appearance in Studio Deen's first Fate/stay night-based anime received a mixed response; critics initially disliked Shirou, but praised how his relationship with Saber evolved over time.
The album has been introduced by the videoclips of two songs: the nominal track "Prisoner 709" and the single "Ti fa stare bene" ("Makes You Feel Good"), published respectively on 7 and 15 September 2017. The publication of this two songs also reflect the duality of the album, with "Prisoner 709" having hard tones and an anguishing atmosphere while "Ti fa stare bene" is a more cheerful, light-hearted song. This duality is shown even further in the album special edition (called the "Escape Edition"), including two LPs, one black and one white, in which the songs are divided whether they were, respectively, sharp or energetic. On 12 January 2018, "Una chiave" ("A Key") is released as the second single of the album; the videoclip of the song is published on YouTube on 26 January.
In general, musically, the melodical sounds would prevail in this album, such is the main characteristic of the following maxi single and probably the most popular one of this release, "Pongamos que hablo de Madrid" (Let's say I'm talking about Madrid) a song that was originally written by Sabina but which had been previously recorded by Antonio Flores, whose version reached the number one position of the Los 40 Principales chart. The B side of that Maxi single was the song "Círculos viciosos" (Vicious circles) a more cheerful rhumba composed by Chicho Sánchez Ferlosio. The melodical sounds of this album continue until the ending track entitled "Pasándolo bien" (having a good time), which had a more accelerated rhythm with less presence of acoustic instruments and more electronic bives.
An illustration for Young's Night-Thoughts by William Blake. The earliest poem attributed to the Graveyard School was Thomas Parnell's A Night-Piece on Death (1721), in which King Death himself gives an address from his kingdom of bones: :"When men my scythe and darts supply :How great a King of Fears am I!" (61–62) Characteristic later poems include Edward Young's Night-Thoughts (1742), in which a lonely traveller in a graveyard reflects lugubriously on: :The vale funereal, the sad cypress gloom; :The land of apparitions, empty shades! (117–18) Blair's The Grave (1743) proves to be no more cheerful as it relates with grim relish how: :Wild shrieks have issued from the hollow tombs; :Dead men have come again, and walked about; :And the great bell has tolled, unrung and untouched.
Her lectors and editors highlights her simple style, full of emotions and sense of humour. Heredia writes, from her own words "to readers that thrpugout humour and love find the key to understand the sense of life". The most relevant characters form her piece are the grandparents, who give a sense of affection, warmth and wisdom in each situation. Also, her stories about "the first love" are very significative: "Friend is written with H" ("Amigo se escribe con H"), "Cupid is a bat" ("Cupido es un muerciélago"), "There are words that fish don´t understand" ("Hay palabras que los peces no entienden"), "Broken Hard Operation" ("Operación Corazón Roto"), among others; where romantic love is in a second plane to give its way to a more cheerful, real and sometimes foolish love.
Cheek dimples are often associated with youth and beauty and are seen as an attractive quality in a person's face, accentuating smiles and making the smile look more cheerful and memorable.: "Some believe that dimples make a person’s smile more memorable and distinct, associating it with cheerfulness." Throughout numerous cultures and history, there have been superstitions based on dimples: Chinese culture believes that cheek dimples are a good luck charm: "...it has come to be accepted [in Chinese culture] that a dimpled wife is one who brings happiness and good luck to the family." (particularly, children born with them are seen as pleasant, polite and enthusiastic), but can lead to complicated romantic relationships; and a proverb (often incorrectly credited to Pope Paul VI) argues "A dimple in your cheek/Many hearts you'll seek/A dimple in your chin/The devil within".
Amici miei (My Friends, 1975), featuring Ugo Tognazzi, Adolfo Celi, Gastone Moschin, Duilio Del Prete and Philippe Noiret, was one of the most successful films in Italy and confirmed Monicelli's genius in mixing humour, irony and bitter understanding of the human condition. The film was popular to the point that some lines are today turned into well established idiomatic expression ("la supercazzola"), and even a programming language ("monicelli") has been created using a syntax based on film quotes. His 1976 film Caro Michele won him the Silver Bear for Best Director at the 26th Berlin International Film Festival. Dramatic accents were predominant in the Un borghese piccolo piccolo (A Very Little Man, 1978), but he turned again to more cheerful comedy and attention to historical events from a popular, intimate point of view with Il Marchese del Grillo (1981).
Sonia Chopra took note of the scene calling it a "standout" moment. Bose told an interviewer: "I found a beautiful metaphor in this real incident where a mother teaches and encourages her child to think out of the box and not be bound by society's restrictions and preconceived notions". A review published in HuffPost took note of the colour palette used in the film, saying, "the dark shadow of death looms large over the film's bubblegum-wrapped, glossy universe". According to the reviewer, London's winters look "ominous" with the city's red Tube trains and telephone boxes popping out as "signages of gloom" in frames composed mostly of depressing greys, writing, "The frames (and the character wardrobes) light up as the film's mood progresses to become more cheerful, with dramatic reds, purples, and yellows illuminating the screen".
Works in siciliana rhythm appear occasionally in the Classical period. Joseph Haydn, perhaps inspired by the bucolic associations of the genre, wrote a siciliana aria for soprano in his oratorio The Creation, "Nun beut die Flur das frische Grün" ("With verdure clad the fields appear"), to celebrate the creation of plants. For Mozart, the hesitating rhythm of the siciliana lent itself to the portrayal of grief, and some of Mozart's most powerful musical utterances are tragic sicilianas: the aria for soprano "Ach, ich fühl's, es ist verschwunden" ("Ah, my heart, 'tis gone forever") from The Magic Flute, the F-sharp minor slow movement of the Piano Concerto, K. 488, the F minor Adagio from the Piano Sonata, K. 280, and the finale of the String Quartet in D minor, K. 421\. In a more cheerful A major, he used a siciliana as the opening theme of his Piano Sonata, K. 331\.
When an investment banker, Eric Ward (David Costabile), comes to Dunder Mifflin Scranton to check for any discrepancies, Michael Scott (Steve Carell), Dwight Schrute (Rainn Wilson), Andy Bernard (Ed Helms) and Pam Halpert (Jenna Fischer) pull out all the stops in hopes of impressing him with their high- profile contacts. Michael – now the highest-ranking employee of Dunder- Mifflin, since all of Corporate in New York have been removed – flagrantly lies to make the office look more "attractive," including pretending to have an AI named Computron, replacing Stanley Hudson (Leslie David Baker) with a more cheerful man, and having Dwight pretend to be the HR rep to keep Toby Flenderson (Paul Lieberstein) from telling him about the office's problems. Toby returns to speak with the banker and he struggles to evade the fact- checker's questions. As they go over a list of potential liabilities, viewers are shown plenty of instances where the staff have destroyed property, engaged in dangerous activities and office romance, time wasting and conflict.
In his review in The New York Times, Mordaunt Hall wrote "[Helen Hayes'] superb portrayal in a difficult role leaves only the regret that the powers that be did not see fit to have her make her screen début in a more cheerful study...The Sin of Madelon Claudet is a sorrowful chronicle which will undoubtedly have a strong popular appeal. It is endowed with other commendable impersonations...[and] also has the benefit of Edgar Selwyn's expert direction."New York Times review Time magazine wrote that the film was "remarkable because in it Helen Hayes appears in cinema for the first time and because it succeeds in its intention — to make audiences weep...By ceasing entirely to be Helen Hayes and becoming instead the woman whose life story she portrays, Cinemactress Hayes makes the familiarity of the story double its sadness...The picture is well directed by Edgar Selwyn [and] splendidly acted by the rest of the cast."Time review TV Guide rates the film four stars and calls it a "well-acted soaper".
This appears to have been the occasion when, according to Volkov: On 17 April 1964, she was of the speakers at a banquet in the Kremlin to celebrate Khrushchev's 70th birthday, and hailed him as "one of the truly superior men of our time...The whole world knows and honours him. It is difficult to imagine a simpler, more approachable, more cheerful man...one of the most original and outstanding orators of our time..." Her support for Khrushchev aroused the hostility and contempt of other Gulag survivors, such as the Nobel laureate Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn, who described her as a "loud mouth", and alleged that she enjoyed a privileged status in the Gulag by being allowed to work as a nurse, though she had no medical training. He also hinted at rumours that she was an informant, though added: "I did not have the opportunity of checking this." According to her daughter, Geliana, in the last five years of her life Serebryakova was "offended by the Writers' Union, for spreading rumors and gossip" and suffered physically and mentally as a result.. She died in 1980.
A plate from The Ferns of Great Britain and Ireland, a book from the era of pteridomania Pteridomania, meaning Fern Madness or Fern Craze, a compound of Pteridophytes and mania, was coined in 1855 by Charles Kingsley in his book Glaucus, or the Wonders of the Shore: > Your daughters, perhaps, have been seized with the prevailing > 'Pteridomania'...and wrangling over unpronounceable names of species (which > seem different in each new Fern-book that they buy)...and yet you cannot > deny that they find enjoyment in it, and are more active, more cheerful, > more self-forgetful over it, than they would have been over novels and > gossip, crochet and Berlin-wool. According to one author: > Although the main period of popularity of ferns as a decorative motif > extended from the 1850s until the 1890s, the interest in ferns had really > begun in the late 1830s when the British countryside attracted increasing > numbers of amateur and professional botanists. New discoveries were > published in periodicals, particularly The Phytologist: a popular botanical > miscellany, which first appeared in 1844. Ferns proved to be a particularly > fruitful group of plants for new records because they had been studied less > than flowering plants.
Characters such as Simon Legree sometimes disappeared, and the title was frequently changed to something more cheerful like "Happy Uncle Tom" or "Uncle Dad's Cabin". Uncle Tom himself was frequently portrayed as a harmless bootlicker to be ridiculed. Troupes known as Tommer companies specialized in such burlesques, and theatrical Tom shows integrated elements of the minstrel show and competed with it for a time.. Minstrelsy's racism (and sexism) could be rather vicious. There were comic songs in which blacks were "roasted, fished for, smoked like tobacco, peeled like potatoes, planted in the soil, or dried up and hung as advertisements", and there were multiple songs in which a black man accidentally put out a black woman's eyes.. On the other hand, the fact that the minstrel show broached the subjects of slavery and race at all is perhaps more significant than the racist manner in which it did so.. Despite these pro-plantation attitudes, minstrelsy was banned in many Southern cities.. Its association with the North was such that as secessionist attitudes grew stronger, minstrels on Southern tours became convenient targets of anti-Yankee sentiment.. Non-race-related humor came from lampoons of other subjects, including aristocratic whites such as politicians, doctors, and lawyers.
