On the Monday morning when Sarawak Tribune (owned by Abdul Rahman) made public the resignation of 7 Sarawak ministers, Tajem decided to check out from Shangri-La Hotel and check in into Ming Court Hotel, where the defectors gathered. Datuk Aaron Ago anak Dagang (born 12 December 1958) is a Malaysian politician, and currently serving as Deputy Minister of Health since 10 March 2020. He is the Member of Parliament of Malaysia for the Kanowit constituency in Sarawak, representing the Sarawak People's Party (PRS) in the federal opposition but state governing Sarawak Parties Alliance coalition. Before entering federal Parliament, Dagang was political secretary to then Minister for Energy, Communications and Multimedia, Leo Moggie Irok. Dagang then replaced Moggie in the Kanowit seat when the latter stepped down for the 2004 general election.

In 1983, Daniel Tajem, who was still the deputy chief minister of Sarawak, was expelled from the SNAP party because he was found guilty of helping the former SNAP candidates to contest against the official candidates listed by SNAP party in 1982 parliamentary election. However, Daniel Tajem refused to step down from the deputy chief minister post. Subsequently, in July 1983, Daniel Tajem and Leo Moggie formed a new party named Parti Bansa Dayak Sarawak (PBDS) in order to challenge James Wong's leadership in SNAP. Leo Moggie became the president of PBDS while Daniel Tajem became the deputy president of the party.

SNAP had been expelled from the Alliance in 1965 for supporting increased autonomy for Sarawak. In the aftermath of the election, Abdul Rahman ordered the detention of James Wong under the Sedition Act. The Sarawak Native People's Party or (PBDS) was a political party in the state of Sarawak in Malaysia. It was established in 1983, by Datuk Amar (now Tan Sri) Leo Moggie Irok, after seceding from Sarawak National Party (SNAP) following his loss in the contest for the SNAP's president post against Datuk Amar, James Wong Kim Ming. PBDS, a breakaway of SNAP, won 15 seats in the Sarawak state election 1987, while its ally, PERMAS, won only 5 seats. Daniel Tajem was the last key player who agreed on a coup on Taib. Tajem was officiating a farmer's organisation function at Mukah on Friday before he went back to Kuching on Saturday. He was then called by Leo Moggie (PBDS president) to meet Abdul Rahman at his home in Kuala Lumpur. During the meeting on Sunday evening, Tajem had an argument with Abdul Rahman on whether to table a formal motion of no confidence in state assembly or just hand over a letter containing state assemblymen signatures to the Governor of Sarawak. After the meeting, Tajem was given an envelope containing RM 300 for his party expenses and he resided at Shangri-La Hotel in Kuala Lumpur at the end of the day.
