The Port Jackson shark is a nocturnal species which peaks in activity during the late evening hours before midnight and decreases in activity before sunrise . A study showed that captive and wild individuals displayed similar movement patterns and the sharks' movements were affected by time of day, sex, and sex-specific migrational behaviour. This species completes an annual migration to breed in coastal embayments with males arriving first in harbours and bays along Australia's coastline. These groups had early and frequent trading contact with Europeans.

The Rumanchenank were a Lenape people who inhabited the region radiating from the Palisades in New York and New Jersey at the time of European colonialization in the 17th century.external.oneonta.edu/cooper/susan/hudson.html Settlers to the provincial colony of New Netherland called them the Haverstroo meaning oat straw, which became Haverstraw in English, and still used to describe part of their territory. Like the Tappan, whose territory overlapped, the Rumanchenank were a seasonally migrational people, who farmed (companion planting), hunted, fished, and trapped. As all Lenape tribes, they were divided into clans, in this case Wolf, Turkey, and Turtle.

The availability of seafood resources as well as fresh water and a variety of terrestrial resources in the coastal hinterland would have made the area an attractive place to camp. It is known that there were distinct tribal groups present along the coast, who tended to stay within their coastal zones as opposed to settling inland, where there were tribal groups although they were smaller in population. The inland and coastal people did interact and travel to each other's tribal areas however there was an ongoing exchange of people visiting other areas and was not reflective of any migrational trend or seasonal settlement.

Due to reproductive necessity, females molt more often then their male counterparts, which can keep their shells for one to two years at a time. Throughout their lives, golden king crabs exhibit an annual offshore “deep and back” migrational pattern, which involves male and female crabs arriving in shallow water in late winter and early spring to molt their shells and mate. When embryos hatch in late spring, they then leave into deeper waters for feeding, wherein they are not typically found with crabs of the opposite sex nor with red or blue king crabs. Golden king crabs consume a wide variety of species, including worms, clams, mussels, snails, sea stars, urchins, sand dollars, barnacles, algae, sponges, and even other crabs and crustaceans.

With experience it learns various landmarks and this "mapping" is done by magnetites in the trigeminal system, which tell the bird how strong the field is. Because birds migrate between northern and southern regions, the magnetic field strengths at different latitudes let it interpret the radical pair mechanism more accurately and let it know when it has reached its destination. There is a neural connection between the eye and "Cluster N", the part of the forebrain that is active during migrational orientation, suggesting that birds may actually be able to see the magnetic field of the earth.

The first recorded European visit was that of Giovanni da Verrazzano, who anchored in The Narrows in 1524. For the next hundred years, the region was visited sporadically by ships on fishing trips and slave raids.

According to philologist Lina Pliško, "the main language layer features Ikavian Chakavian from Zadar hinterland, but were also preserved features of assimilated Ikavian Štakavian speakers originating from Makarska (Podbiokovlje) region, who arrived to Istria in a migrational wave with Ikavian Chakavian speakers, and in more-or-less number also language features of Ekavian Chakavian speakers (Northern Chakavian, Buzet, and partly Middle Chakavian subdialect). The subdialect was first mentioned by Ribarić in 1916. In the second half of the 20th century, to the dialect was attributed a larger number of Shtokavian elements and hence was also classified among Shtokavian Ikavian subdialects, a thesis first argued by Polish linguist Mieczysław Małecki (1930), which was mostly supported by Serbian linguists, Aleksandar Belić, Pavle Ivić and Radosav Bošković. However, a comprehensive research made by Mate Hraste in 1964 held for determination of Shtokavian languages in Istria found that Southwestern Istria "is not Shtokavian nor Shtokavian- Chakavian, as was called by Ribarić, but Chakavian-Shtokavian, because in it even today prevail Chakavian elements, and not Shtokavian.

Most of the large Circassian migrational waves towards mainland Iran stem from the Safavid and Qajar era, however a certain amount also stem from the relatively recent arrivals that migrated as the Circassians were displaced from the Caucasus in the 19th century. A Black African population exists due to historical slavery. A substantial number of Russians arrived in the early 20th century as refugees from the Russian revolution, but their number has dwindled following the Iran crisis of 1946 and the Iranian Revolution. In the 20th to 21st centuries, there has been limited immigration to Iran from Turkey, Iraqis (especially huge numbers during the 1970s known as Moaveds), Afghanistan (mostly arriving as refugees in 1978), Lebanese (especially in Qom, though a Lebanese community has been present in the nation for centuries), Indians (mostly arriving temporarily during the 1950s to 1970s, typically working as doctors, engineers, and teachers), Koreans (mostly in the 1970s as labour migrants), China (mostly since the 2000s working in engineering or business projects), and Pakistan, partly due to labour migrants and partly to Balochi ties across the Iranian-Pakistani border.
