Meishi should be kept in a smart leather case where they will not become warm or worn, both of which are considered a sign of disrespect or thoughtlessness. A received meishi should not be written on or placed in a pocket; it is considered proper to file the meishi at the rear of the leather case. If the meishi is being presented at a table, the recipient keeps the meishi on top of the leather case until they leave the table. Garrett Yim (also known as May Yim) is a Los Angeles based musician who releases electronic music under the name Meishi Smile. The name Meishi Smile was first used in 2010. Yim's music has elements of noise music, J-pop and shoegaze.

Meishi may also contain a QR code to provide contact details in a machine-readable form, but this has not yet become a widespread practice. The Meishi Film Academy is one of 28 schools in Chongqing University, the second film academy founded in the People's Republic of China after the Beijing Film Academy. Under the Western-educated Kangxi Emperor, Chinese mathematics enjoyed a brief period of official support.. At Kangxi's direction, Mei Goucheng and three other outstanding mathematicians compiled a 53-volume Shuli Jingyun [The Essence of Mathematical Study] (printed 1723) which gave a systematic introduction to western mathematical knowledge. At the same time, Mei Goucheng also developed to Meishi Congshu Jiyang [The Compiled works of Mei]. Meishi Congshu Jiyang was an encyclopedic summary of nearly all schools of Chinese mathematics at that time, but it also included the cross- cultural works of Mei Wending (1633-1721), Goucheng's grandfather. Meishi International school has two divisions in the school, one being the Chinese division which is taught in Chinese, and an international division where everything is taught in English, even though the majority of the students are Chinese. Ordinarily, the designs were used to commemorate a visit to a temple or shrine and printed with simple monochromatic schemes, but eventually aesthetic sense gave way to colorful variations and designs. Another element was the hero giving gifts to people in need to his own detriment, a theme compared by Masuda to "The Happy Prince" by Oscar Wilde. Incorporating this theme into the entire work proved taxing for him. The specific concept for Hero Must Die was fully formed by 1999, while he was working on the first Oreshika game. His proposal was initially rejected by multiple developers, but after putting it up on his web page as a kind of joke, his proposal was seen and accepted by Meishi and began production.

Ou Ning (; born 1969) is a Chinese artist, film maker, curator, writer, publisher and activist. He is the director of two films San Yuan Li (2003) and Meishi Street (2005), chief curator of Shenzhen and Hong Kong Bi-city Biennale of Urbanism \ Architecture (2009), founding chief editor of the literary bimonthly Chutzpah! (Tian Nan, 2011-2014), founder of Bishan Commune (2011-2016) and School of Tillers (2015-2016). He taught at GSAPP, Columbia University and worked as the founding curator of Kwan-Yen Project from 2016 to 2017.

In 2009, Zoom Lens was founded by Gary Y., who was at the time "fascinated with Japanese harsh noise and film" and sought out to release music due to the influence of the Orange County experimental music scene. The first Zoom Lens release, a Yuko Imada album entitled "Ome," which came packaged as a CD-R contained in a DVD case soaked in the artist's own blood. In January 2015, Zoom Lens had its first video broadcast on national television through Adult Swim with Meishi Smile and their video "AJS." On March 15, 2016, Zoom Lens had its first official SXSW showcase.

Hero Must Die was developed by game developer Pyramid. The staff included designer and story writer Shoji Masuda, producers Kyoko Kawakami and Jun Meishi, the latter of whom worked on Patapon and a video game based on Record of Lodoss War; and production manager Junichi Kashiwagi, who worked on Chaos Seed. The game's production was handled and augmented by G-Mode. When creating the concept of Hero Must Die, Masuda drew from own experiences of living through his father's deterioration after receiving surgery for cirrhosis in 1995: despite the surgery being successful, Masuda's father was given ten years to live.
