An International Measurer of Sailing is a type of highly experienced race official who has two principal functions in the sport of sailing: certification control and regatta equipment inspection. For classes of yachts that require it, measurers check that new equipment (hulls, appendages, spas, sails, etc.) complies with class rules before it can be used in competition. Where required by the organizers of a regatta, measurers check that equipment during the regatta is compliant with class rules. The most experienced measurers may become "International Measurers" recognised by the International Sailing Federation.

A major survey of the site using an EDM (Electronic Distance Measurer) was completed in 1998 resulting in a computer- generated image of the entire site so far for any site in the North West Frontier Province.

The men's single sculls competition at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro was held from 6 to 13 August at the Lagoon Rodrigo de Freitas. The measurer noted Martin as the winner with photo finish, while Drysdale as second, but then the result was removed. They had the same final time, 6 minutes 41.34 seconds, and the winner, Drysdale, was decided with a photo finish (five thousandths of a second) by judges. The Croatian Olympic Committee disputes the photo finish, and officially requested the International Olympic Committee and International Rowing Federation for an analysis by independent experts of the entire video and photo finish.

In 2013 a project led by University of California Berkeley professor John Chuang published findings on the feasibility of brainwave-based computer authentication as a substitute for passwords. Improvements in the use of biometrics for computer authentication has continually improved since the 1980s, but this research team was looking for a method faster and less intrusive than today's retina scans, fingerprinting, and voice recognition. The technology chosen to improve security measures is an electroencephalogram (EEG), or brainwave measurer, to improve passwords into "pass thoughts." Using this method Chuang and his team were able to customize tasks and their authentication thresholds to the point where they were able to reduce error rates under 1%, significantly better than other recent methods.

There is considerable confusion as to the origins of the surname, which has been recorded as Pearch, Pearche, Perch, Perche, Porch and possibly other variants. It was probably topographical or occupational, and as such would have described either somebody who possessed a perche of land (representing an area of land large enough to support a family), or who was a measurer of perches, a surveyor or land agent. However it is also possible that the name described a fisherman, one who professionally caught the freshwater fish known as the perch. Before the 14th century, large areas of England and particularly in East Anglia were permanently under water, and today's fens are what remains.

As Baker had been a student and partner of James Gandon, Byrne would likely have been introduced to neoclassicism around this time. Work done by Parasuraman, Zeithaml and Berry (Leonard L) between 1985 and 1988 provides the basis for the measurement of customer satisfaction with a service by using the gap between the customer's expectation of performance and their perceived experience of performance. Work done by Cronin and Taylor propose the "confirmation/disconfirmation" theory of combining the "gap" described by Parasuraman, Zeithaml and Berry as two different measures (perception and expectation of performance) into a single measurement of performance according to expectation.

Each SITJ and Certified CIC Measurer receives an individual Identification Card which serves to officially identify qualified CIC measurers. Together, all SITJ make up the CIC Trophy Evaluation Board (TEB) which is responsible for overseeing the TES and for the training of Certified CIC Measurers. The International Formulae for the Measurement and Evaluation of Trophies of the CIC, previously known as the Red Book, is currently undergoing extensive review and is expected to be published in 2014 as the “CIC Handbook on the Evaluation and Measuring of Hunting Trophies”. The TES is part of the Applied Science Division, which also cooperates and coordinates its work with the CIC Headquarters, CIC Coordination Forums, and official National Hunting Associations and Trophy Measuring Associations registered with the CIC.

Julian Obermann suggests a close association with between the concept of "name" and "fate or purpose" from the West Semitic root "šm" and cites several examples in the Ugaritic text in which the naming of a person or object determines future function which is a familiar theme in many mythologies. Godfrey Rolles Driver translates "šmt" as "charge, duty, function" in his glossary of Ugaritic and links this with the Akkadian "shimtu" which he translates as "appointed lot". As a personification of fate, Ashima was cognate with the South Semitic goddess Manathu (or Manāt) whose name meant "the measurer, fate, or portion" who was worshiped by the Nabataean peoples of Jordan and other early South Semitic and Arabian peoples. Both names appear in alternate verses in Ugaritic texts.

The world rankings, based on the average of the best five results for the athlete over the qualifying period and weighted by the importance of the meet, will then be used to qualify athletes until the cap of 80 is reached. To be a qualifying performance, the course had to have been certified in the last five years by a Grade A or Grade B road course measurer. In order to be eligible for the qualifying standard time, the elevation decrease could not be more than 1 metre per kilometre. For world rankings, the elevation decrease could exceed that rate, but a correction would be made to the score. The qualifying period was originally from 1 January 2019 to 31 May 2020.

The Evangelist is placed in a church with his wife and disciples kneeling behind him, leaving for Patmos, and immersed in burning oil. The more mundane and secular activities in the background, as evidenced by the image of the city crane used by the hospital to measure and fill wine barrels, place the altarpiece's spiritual vision in a worldly context. The measuring of wine was a lucrative concession given to the hospital by the city authorities during the mid-1300s and in the 1470s the hospital secured the right to fish in the Reye river – both activities shown in the far background. The figure of the hospital brother has been variously identified as Jan Floreins or Josse Willems; both held the position of the hospital's wine measurer and so were associated with the crane.

The power struggle between the two key characters in Christ and Satan is emphasized through context, alliteration, and theme; with a heavy emphasis on the great measure (ametan) of God. From the very beginning of the piece, the reader is reminded and expected to know the power and mightiness of God, the creator of the universe: :“þæt wearð underne eorðbuendum :Þæt meotod hæfde miht and strengðo :Ða he gefastnade foldan sceatas” (1-3) :“It has become manifested to men of earth that the measurer had might :and strength when he put together the regions of the earth” In all three parts of Christ and Satan, Christ's might is triumphant against Satan and his demons.Sleeth 14 Alliteration combines and emphasizes these comparisons. The taxes imposed by the Portuguese, and the desecration of Buddhist temples by missionaries caused great discontent among the Sinhalese peasantry and in late 1616 an uprising broke out in Sabaragamuwa. Disava Filipe de Oliveira's forces camped in the Seven Korales were dispatched south, but in his absence, in December 1616 a much greater revolt broke out in eastern Seven Korales, led by a disgraced grain measurer who claimed to be the grandson of Rajasinha, late prince Nikapitiya Bendara, dead since 1611. Senarat immediately took the opportunity to support Nikapitiya with a force of 2000 men commanded by the former rebel leader Kangara Aratchi, and the Prince of Uva, Kuruvita Rala, to march his forces southwards into Matara and Sabaragamuwa. Under these conditions, the Portuguese were overwhelmed: part of Sabaragmuwa and Matara were overrun while a considerable portion of the Seven Korales fell to Nikapitiya's rebellion.
