The Quebrada Vilavilani descends the Andes in southwestward direction, where it has several different names, and ends close to the city of Tacna into the Caplina River. Plans to expand the diversion system to the Mauri River itself hit opposition by Bolivia in 2009 and 2010. In 1977 it was suggested that creating a reservoir in the Uchusuma River would increase the availability of water for the system, since the capacity of the Uchusuma diversion is limited and excess water flows past the diversion. The canal begins at the northeastern foot of Cerro Huancune on the Uchusuma River, a principal tributary of the Mauri River; the diversion occurs at the locality Ancochaullanta at elevation. The path of the canal takes it southeastward through Peruvian territory until the Peru-Chile border at Laguna Blanca. It continues through Chilean territory from Laguna Blanca along the Arica-La Paz railway southwestward between the mountains Tacora and Caracarani, close to the Canal Mauri.

A natural lake called Paucarani exists on the southeastern foot of Casiri, and the Quebrada Achuco valley is also located south of Casiri, accompanied by wetlands. On the other side, the southeastward-flowing Quebrada Mamuta lies to the north and northeast of the volcano, and to the northwest lie streams which flow through the lake Casiri and the lake Liñuma into the Rio Mauri. Already during Spanish colonial time plans were developed to use the waters of the Uchusuma for irrigation. After Chile had occupied what is now its northern territory and Peru's Tacna Department during the War of the Pacific, it examined the possibility of transferring water from the Mauri River into Tacna to enable irrigated agriculture. Construction of the canal finally began in 1921, over the objection of Bolivia which was concerned about navigation on the Desaguadero River (where the Mauri ends into) being impeded by the loss of water and water supply issues; Bolivia however succeeded insofar as the Mauri River itself was not diverted. A series of diversion dams on the Quebrada Casillaco, Quebrada Chungará, Quebrada Iñuma of the Kallapuma River basin (a tributary of the Mauri) are the source of the long Patapujo II canal, whose final part has a construction aimed to dissipate water energy. This canal in turn becomes the Patapujo I canal, which also receives water from groundwater sources. These canals have capacities of , they collect water from tributaries of the Mauri River to transfer it to the Uchusuma. Another culturally sensitive prevention technique is the Mauri Ora framework which incorporates Maori principles and values such as whakapapa (genealogy), tikanga (general behaviour guidelines for daily life and interaction within the Māori culture), wairua (spirit), tapu (forbidden/sacred values), mauri (the essence of emotions), and mana (power). Sérgio Pinto Ribeiro (born May 27, 1959 in Porto Alegre) is a former international breaststroke swimmer from Brazil, who participated in two consecutive Summer Olympics for his native country, starting in 1976. Rosita Mauri was the daughter of the Catalan ballet master and choreographer Pedro Rafael Jaime Mauri who, from her childhood, trained her for stardom. Her rise to become one of Europe’s principal ballerinas started in 1877, when the French composer Charles Gounod saw her dancing at La Scala, Milan. Carolina Mauri Carabaguias (born November 13, 1969) is a freestyle swimmer from Costa Rica, who won three medals (one silver and two bronze) with the women's relay team at the 1987 Pan American Games. She represented her native country at the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul, South Korea. In the Seoul Olympics, she briefly held the Olympic record in the 50 meter freestyle event. Ms Mauri is an attorney, holding a law degree from the University of Costa Rica, and Masters of Law degree in International Environmental Law from the Washington College of Law at American University in Washington, DC. She is an expert in biodiversity law and climate change law and policy.
Many Mauri were enlisted in the Roman army and were well known as members of the comitatus, the emperor's mobile army, prior to the reign of Diocletian. Mauri Nyberg-Noroma (31 January 1908 in Vyborg - 23 December 1939 in Muolaa) was a Finnish gymnast. He won three Olympic medals for Finland. He took part in his first Olympics in 1928 in Amsterdam but did not medal. He came joint sixth after a fifth place in the rings and seventh on the pommel horse and parallel bars.

Carmen Mauri (song of a Maur) is an anonymous Polish medieval poem written in Latin. It tells the story of Polish magnate Piotr Włast and his rebellion against Prince Władysław Wygnaniec. The poem has survived only in fragmentary form. Its author and exact date of creation is unknown, it is presumed that the author was a Benedictine monk and the poem was written between the second half of the 12th century and the beginning of the 14th century.
1947: Mauri Rose and rookie teammate Bill Holland dominate the race in their twin Blue Crown Spark Plug Specials. Holland, who is well ahead in the late stages, obeys a pit signal to slow down and preserve the car for the finish. Rose gets the same signal, but continues to charge ahead and overtakes Holland with seven laps to go. Rose goes on to win, to the dismay of Holland, who thought he had been a lap ahead.

The film is set in 19th Century Austria where a newly wed couple of Wolfgang (Walter Brandi) and Louise (Graziella Granata) move in to a mysterious mansion. During a ball, Louise is bitten by the vampire baron of the mansion (Dieter Eppler). The film was a low budget production, so much so that actor Dieter Eppler stated that many cast members were not paid for their work.

In 1934, Wiggins' reputation as a consummate preparer of racing automobiles and race mechanic resulted in him being enlisted into Bill Cummings's Boyle Products race team for the 1934 Indianapolis 500. Wiggins was finagled past race officials by claiming he was the team's janitor. Cummings narrowly won the race from later three time Indy 500 champion Mauri Rose, having led 57 of the 200 racing laps. Wiggins' career was ended on the second lap of the 1936 Gold and Glory race.

In January 1958 Bonatti was in Patagonia, (Argentina), to participate in a mixed Italian-Argentinian expedition in the glaciated mountains of the Southern Patagonian Ice Field. The objective was to climb with Carlo Mauri the unclimbed Cerro Torre (). The climb started from the west side of the mountain 2 February in conditions of fair weather, but the route would prove to be difficult and the climbing equipment (ropes and pitons) insufficient. Very likely, the climb itself was above the skills of the best climbers of those years.

At the 1964 Summer Olympics, in Tokyo, he swam the 100-metre freestyle and the 4×100-metre medley, not reaching the finals. A month before the trip to Japan, Fonseca began his fitness in Forte da Urca in Rio de Janeiro. He slept in barracks with the soldiers, there was no food with balanced diet, and even had a technician accompanying his training.

The oldest "Moroccan" military forces are those of the Mauri Berber Kingdoms from around 225 BCE. The Moroccan army has existed continuously since the rising of Almoravid Empire in the 11th-century. Headband were a progressive, blues rock band formed in Adelaide in February 1971 by bass guitarist Chris Bailey; drummer Joff Bateman; singer-songwriter and keyboardist Peter Beagley (later known as Peter Head); and singer- songwriter and guitarist Mauri Berg. The group supported Elton John (in 1971), The Rolling Stones (in 1973) at their Sydney performances. An early proposal by the engineer Jorge Vargas Salcedo envisaged transferring of water from the Mauri to the Laguna Blanca northwest of General Lagos on the present-day Peru-Chile border. Laguna Blanca would operate as a reservoir and receive additional waters through and long canals from the Uchusuma and Putani rivers, respectively. The plan projected that about of land could be irrigated at a capital cost of ; the revenue from the irrigated land would be sufficient to offset the investment. The Canal Uchusuma already existed since 1820; it intercepted water from the Uchusuma River.
Aimo Cajander The Second International Aeronautic Exhibition, (full name Second International Aeronautical Exhibition in the league Air Defence of Finland SILI) was held in Helsinki in 1938. It ran from 14 May to 22 May 1938. It was a special exhibition recognised by the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE) which attracted 25 participating countries including Czechoslovakia, Finland, Germany, Great Britain, Hungary, Latvia, and Sweden; and 15 million visitors and took place in Helsinki's exhibition hall. The commissioners were Alexander Frey, Erik von Frenckell and Mauri Honkajuuri director of Kansallis-Osake-Pankki.
The mountain is an important source of water for the region. The Lluta River originates on Tacora, and its waters are highly salty owing to their origin on the volcano. Mauretania ()The Classic Latin Dictionary, Follett, 1957, only gives "Mauritania" is the Latin name for a region in the ancient Maghreb. It stretched from central present-day Algeria westwards to the Atlantic, covering northern Morocco, and southward to the Atlas Mountains. Its native inhabitants, seminomadic pastoralists of Berber ancestry, were known to the Romans as the Mauri and the Masaesyli. In 27 BC, the kings of Mauretania became Roman vassals until about 44 AD, when the area was annexed to Rome and divided into two provinces: Mauretania Tingitana and Mauretania Caesariensis.
Wilbur Shaw dominates again, but on lap 152, a wheel collapses, sending Shaw's car into the first turn wall. The wheel is believed to have been one Shaw identified before the race as faulty, and had marked it as not to be used. Water from the hoses battling the garage fire apparently washed off the markings and the wheel was put on during the last pit stop. Mauri Rose, whose pole-winning Maserati dropped out early, took over teammate Floyd Davis's car on lap 72 and drove up through the pack to win.

After two years of failures to his teammate, Bill Holland finally won one for himself, giving car owner Lou Moore his third consecutive Indy victory. Mauri Rose was fired by the team after the race when he again ignored orders and tried to pass Holland, only to see his car fail with 8 laps to go. Spider Webb suffered a broken transmission the morning of the race and failed to start.
Josep Maria Mauri i Prior (born 21 October 1941) is a Spanish Catholic priest from Catalonia and the current personal representative of the episcopal Co- Prince of Andorra, Archbishop Joan Enric Vives Sicília. He was born in 1941 in Alzina de Moror, Pallars Jussà, Spain and was ordained a priest in 1965. In 2010, he was appointed Vicar General of the Diocese of Urgell and Deputy of the then personal representative of the episcopal Co-Prince of Andorra, Nemesi Marqués Oste. On July 20, 2012 he was sworn into office as personal representative.
The museum also acquired works such as Portrait of Jacqueline with tape, among others. In the late 1990s the museum expanded yet again with the acquisition of Casa Mauri and Palau Windows, both on the same street and adjacent to the museum. Opened in 1999, this new extension added 3,400 square meters to the museum, serving as a space for temporary exhibitions, an auditorium, and additional services. The extension was opened with the temporary exhibition Picasso: Interior and Exterior Landscape, with more than 200 works by the artist created between 1917 and 1970.

It is situated in the Puno Region, El Collao Province, Capazo District. Tuma Tumani lies east of the mountain Jiwaña at the plain named Jiwaña Pampa. Another was the Te Arawa canoe which made landfall at Maketu, with some of her crew occupying the land between the Tauranga harbour and the Kaituna River. After the departure of Tainui the Takitimu canoe then entered the Tauranga harbour. Its captain, Tamatea Arikinui, climbed to the summit of Mauao (Mount Maunganui) to offer karakia (prayers) and to bury there the mauri (life force) of his people. Tamatea built a pa (stockaded village) on the hill known as Maungatawa, where his people settled. Ngati Ranginui all descended from Tamatea’s grandson, Ranginui.
"The Quest for Kalevala" is a 1999 Uncle Scrooge comic book story written and drawn by Don Rosa. The story was first published in the Danish Anders And & Co. #1999-48; the first American publication was in Uncle Scrooge #334, in October 2004. The Quest for Kalevala is based on the Finnish national epic Kalevala, assembled and partly written by Elias Lönnrot in the 19th century. Rosa's inspiration for the story was a Finnish children's book called Koirien Kalevala ("The Canine Kalevala") by the Finnish cartoonist Mauri Kunnas, who was himself inspired by the original Kalevala.
The Breton Gospel Book was produced in France, most likely in Brittany or Tours. In the fifteenth century, the Benedictine Abbey of St Martin at Tours owned the manuscript; it has the inscription "Iste Liber est de Ecclesia beatissimi Martini Turonensis" on folio 102v (the last page). The Breton Gospel Book was then acquired by the Maurist Abbey of Marmoutiers, also in Tours, during the eighteenth century, as evidenced by the inscription "Majoris monasterii Congregationis S Mauri" on folio 1r (the first page). It was bought in 1836 by the British Museum, using money that was left to them from Francis Henry Egerton.

Examination of Conscience () is a Spanish documentary web television miniseries created by Enric Hernández, Luis Mauri, and Albert Solé, and directed by Albert Sol premiered on Netflix on January 25, 2019. The three 50-minute episodes examines the extent of child abuse accusations across three Spanish Marist Brother schools in Spain by priests or other people associated with the Catholic Church. Through interviews with victims, clergy members, journalists, and experts, it discusses different cases, the lack of support for the victims by the church, and how laws in Spain do not support prosecuting cases when they are reported decades after the occurrence.
First leased by J & B Sniders, importers of china and glass, the warehouse was subsequently used by McMurtie & Co. (boot manufacturers), and a variety of produce and leather merchants, engineers, hardware suppliers and saddlers' ironmongers. From 1900 to 1914 the property was owned by the Gibson family of Bingera Plantation, near Bundaberg, and between 1928 and 1960 was owned and occupied by Mauri Brothers and Thomson Ltd. The property was purchased by the Commissioner of Main Roads in 1960 and transferred to the Crown in 1968. Since then the building has been used as offices for the Queensland Government and community groups.

2 Barrack Street is a distinctive seven-story building constructed in 1892 by the architectural firm Sheerin & Hennessey, a firm that made a considerable contribution to the character of Victorian and Edwardian Sydney. The building previously served as principle offices for notable companies including Gordon & Gotch and Mauri Bros & Thompson. The building occupies and enhances a corner site in a precinct dominated by buildings of this type which served Darling Harbour as a working port. Rendered stucco masonry walls are deeply grooved with a variety of decorative motifs including fluted brackets, bay windows, pediments and swags.

Lahja Anna-Maija Lehtonen (3 August 1927 Helsinki, Finland – 19 August 2016 Helsinki, Finland) was a Finnish missionary who worked for a long time in Ovamboland, Namibia. She held a master’s degree in the English language from the University of Helsinki, and she was known as the long time English teacher of the Oshigambo High School, which she co-founded together with Toivo Tirronen in 1960. Lehtonen was born on 3 August 1927, in Helsinki, to Reverend Mauri Lehtonen and his wife Margit Lehtonen. The family moved quite often, and Lahja Lehtonen went to primary school in Jämsänkoski.

They offered their support to National, allowing the government to maintain a slim majority. It later emerged that before departing, Henare had mounted an unsuccessful challenge to Peters. Later in 1998, he banded together with four other MPs who had departed New Zealand First (including two other members of the Tight Five, Morgan and Waitai), to form a new party, Mauri Pacific, with himself as the new party's leader. Late in the term, he was criticised for refusing to give Trevor Mallard a chance to speak on the use of the Māori language in Parliament because Mallard wasn't Māori.

Ramzi Rouighi argues that the usage of Berber in reference to the people of North Africa appeared only after the Muslim conquests of the 7th century. Latin and Greek sources describe Moors, Africans, and even barbarians, but never Berbers (al-Barbar). The English term was introduced in the 19th century, replacing the earlier Barbary. The Berbers are the Mauri cited by the Chronicle of 754 during the Umayyad conquest of Hispania, to become since the 11th century the catch-all term ('Moors') on documents of the Christian Iberian kingdoms to refer to the Andalusi, the north Africans, and the Muslims overall.
In Roman times, the indigenes of northwest Africa (present-day Libya, Tunisia, Algeria, and Morocco) all belonged to the Berber-speaking nation. The Romans called these peoples, loosely east to west, Libyae, Afri (in Tunisia, from which the name Africa is probably derived), Numidae (eastern Algeria), and Mauri (western Algeria and Morocco, from which the name Moors is derived). North of the Atlas mountains, the land was fertile and well-watered (there is evidence that rainfall was heavier than today and that the desert had not encroached as far north). The Berbers living inside the fertile zone were largely sedentary.
Yet these names (Mauri from which Moor) have been used by ancient and medieval authors to designate also black Africans coming from south of the Sahara. Frank M. Bar-tailed godwit A similar situation occurs with waders (called shorebirds in North America). Many species, such as dunlin Calidris alpina and western sandpiper Calidris mauri, undertake long movements from their Arctic breeding grounds to warmer locations in the same hemisphere, but others such as semipalmated sandpiper C. pusilla travel longer distances to the tropics in the Southern Hemisphere. For some species of waders, migration success depends on the availability of certain key food resources at stopover points along the migration route. This gives the migrants an opportunity to refuel for the next leg of the voyage.
In 1992 the boy band played the lead in their own movie, Cambiando el Destino. The emblem of the Thebaei, another Western Roman infantry regiment, featured a pattern of concentric circles comparable to its static version. The Roman patterns predate the earliest Taoist versions by almost seven hundred years, and there is no evidence for a connection between the two.
The Vandals also persecuted Chalcedonian Roman Africans and Berbers, as the Vandals were adherents of Arianism (the semi- trinitarian doctrines of Arius, a priest of Egypt). Towards the end of the 5th century, the Vandal state fell into decline, abandoning most of the interior territories to the Mauri and other Berber tribes of the region. In AD 533, Emperor Justinian, using a Vandal dynastic dispute as pretext, sent an army under the general Belisarius to recover Africa. In a short campaign, Belisarius defeated the Vandals, entered Carthage in triumph and re- established Roman rule over the province.
Nordic walking (originally Finnish sauvakävely) is fitness walking with specially designed poles. While trekkers, backpackers and skiers had been using the basic concept for decades, Nordic walking was first formally defined with the publication of "Hiihdon lajiosa" (translation: "A part of cross- country skiing training methodic") by Mauri Repo in 1979. Nordic walking's concept was developed on the basis of off-season ski-training activity while using one-piece ski poles. The development of the Silent goes back to the early 1990s and its roots can be found in Walter Mauri's light sailplane called the "Dream". On 8 December 1994 the definitive prototype of Silent light sailplane made its maiden flight from the small grass strip of Gagliano in the northeastern Italian province of Friuli. The glider, flown by test pilot Walter Mauri and towed by a 50 hp trike, was airborne in 200m and, after climbing to 600m, successfully flew for 16 minutes. Series production of the "Silent 2" with the 13m wings will begin in the second half of 2003.
In June 1959 it was announced that Don Mankiewicz would write a screenplay of an unpublished story by Mauri Grashin, Day Keene, and Dwight Babcock. The film Seven Rivers Walking – Haere Mārire, which she co-directed with Galyene Barns, premiered at the 2017 NZ International Film Festival.

The group participates in this tribute interpreting the songs "LUZ" and "Mi Estrella Guia" accompanied by singers like Carla Mauri, ATL and Jary. This was their paying homage to El Papa Francisco. On March 31, 2016, through their official social media released the name of their next single, which is called "Emily Taught Me To Fly" (Emily me enseño a volar).

Wilson's first teaching role was in Kawakawa at Bay of Islands College. He went on to become head of department in art at Mount Albert Grammar School. Since they arrived, the many hapū that live alongside the Waiapu River have been responsible for preserving the mauri (special nature) of the river, and the hapū of the valley act as kaitiakitanga (guardians) of the river and its tributaries. The techniques the iwi use to catch kahawai at the mouth of the river are unique to that river, and are considered sacred. Ngāti Porou believe that taniwha (water spirits or monsters) dwell in and protect the river, in turn protecting the valley and its hapū. Taniwha believed to be in Waiapu River include Kotuwainuku, Kotuwairangi, Ohinewaiapu, and Ngungurutehorowhatu.

The bodies were built by Freighter Industries, JW Bolton, Hillquip and Howard Porter. There were some unusual O305s operating in Perth. In the mid-second century the Moors (Mauri in ancient Latin) twice attempted invasions, and were finally driven back by Roman archers. In anger, locals broke all of their dishes and pots, and Justa and Rufina retaliated by smashing an image of the goddess Venus or of Salambo. They were both imprisoned, tortured and killed by the Roman authorities.
The National Park Service, United States Geological Survey (USGS) and glaciologists such as Mauri S. Pelto, who has led the North Cascades Glacier Climate Project since 1984, have continued research on North Cascade glaciers. Since 1993, the National Park Service has conducted rigorous studies on four park glaciers: Noisy Creek, Silver, North Klawatti and Sandalee Glaciers. The National Park Service research indicated that these four glaciers experienced rapid decrease in volumes between 1993 and 2011. In 1998, a National Park Service and Portland State University aerial photographic inventory showed a 13 percent loss in park-wide glacial volume since Austin Post's inventory in 1971.
The triangular pediment has a bas-relief of busts of Simón Bolívar and Antonio Guzmán Blanco. There are three columnated portals, the one in the centre presenting two caryatids representing Justice and Freedom. The building houses a number of notable paintings by Venezuelan artists of the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries including Martín Tovar y Tovar, Antonio Herrera Toro, Tito Salas, Pedro Centeno Vallenilla and Emilio Jacinto Mauri. In addition to the dome painting of the Battle of Carabobo, the Oval Room also contains the Proceedings of the Constitutional Congress (1811–1812) which includes the handwritten version of the Declaration of Independence of Venezuela.
He later took up journalistic pursuits in addition to painting, signing his writings with the pseudonym "Santoro". He was a major contributor to the cultural affairs bi-weekly, ' (The Illustrated Cripple, named by one of its founders, who had a bad leg), and a co-founder of El Granuja (The Rogue). In 1892, he was appointed Director of the government "Office of Buildings and Ornamentation" (Edificios y Ornato de Poblaciones) and, in 1908, became Director of the Art Academy, following the death of Emilio Jacinto Mauri. Early the following year, he was faced with a strike by a large group of students who were demanding changes in the curriculum.
Maghrebis or Maghrebians (; a modern Arabic term meaning "Westerners", mainly referring to the western part of the Arab world) are the inhabitants of Maghreb region, the westernmost part of North Africa and the Arab world. Maghrebis were known in medieval times as Roman Africans or Moors. The term Moor is derived from Mauri, the Roman name for the Berbers of Mauretania, land of the Moors, the Roman name for the western part of the Maghreb. The vast majority of Maghrebis are Arab-Berbers, Arabs, Arabized Berbers and Berbers, who are native to the region and synonymous with the term in older and historiographical literature.

Detail from Trajan's Column, Rome From the Second Punic War until the 3rd century AD, the bulk of Rome's light cavalry (apart from mounted archers from Syria) was provided by the inhabitants of the northwest African provinces of Africa proconsularis and Mauretania, the Numidae or Mauri (from whom derives the English term "Moors"), who were the ancestors of the Berber people of modern Algeria and Morocco.
The ethnonym Berber dates to the 19th century, derived from Barbary, the term for the Maghreb coast used during the early modern period, itself from Greek barbaria "land of barbarians". The contemporary self-designation current mostly in Morocco is Imazighen (singular Amazigh). This term is common in Morocco, especially among Central Atlas, Rifian and Shilah speakers in 1980, but elsewhere within the Berber homeland sometimes a local, more particular term, such as Kabyle (Kabyle comes from Arabic: tribal confederation) or Chaoui, is more often used instead in Algeria. The Berber tribal populations of antiquity are known as Numidians and later as Mauri in classical antiquity.
Wyllie represented Te Tai Tonga as a member of parliament from 1996 to 1999 for the New Zealand First Party. He defeated 29-year parliamentary veteran Whetu Tirikatene-Sullivan with a majority of 285 votes enabling New Zealand First to capture all five Māori seats in the 1996 election (including Te Tai Tonga). The following day the courts granted an injunction against Closer, prohibiting further publication of the photographs and announced a criminal investigation would be initiated. The first duty of Professor Blakemore as new Honorary President was to present the Presidential Emeritus medal to Professor Fischer.

Cortissoz was born in Brooklyn, New York, to Francisco Emmanuel Cortissoz, an Englishman of Spanish descent, and Julia da Costa Mauri, from Martinique. He trained as an architect, spending six years working at the firm of McKim, Mead, and White, starting at the age of 16, before joining the staff of the Commercial Advertiser. In 1891, he joined the staff of the New York Tribune, writing on culture, and eventually became the art editor. He had been interested in art as a young child, but never formally studied or practiced it, instead having skill with words, thus leading to career as an art critic, in his own words, "by spontaneous combustion".
Early on September 19, Debby passed just south of Cape Race, Newfoundland and started accelerating to the east at 60 mph (100 km/h) on the following day. Debby remained a tropical cyclone while crossing the North Atlantic Ocean and weakened to a tropical storm at 0600 UTC September 20\. Debby was rapidly approaching the British Isles on September 20 shortly before it transitioned into an extratropical cyclone. The remains of Debby maintained plenty of intensity over northern Europe, and on September 21 it struck northern parts of Finland (where it was named storm Mauri) as one of the most powerful windstorms in the country's recorded history.
The Mauri Ora framework was created by the Second Māori Taskforce on whānau violence to further the current understanding of whānau violence. The framework acknowledged that whānau violence is a learned and practiced behaviour that has become normalised and entrenched through several generations. Every bend and rapid of the river (there are 239 listed rapids) has a guardian, or kaitiaki, who maintains the mauri (life force) of that stretch of the river. Whanganui hapū (sub- tribes) were renowned for their canoeing skills and maintained extensive networks of weirs and fishing traps along the River. Generations of river iwi have learned to use and protect this great taonga (treasure), and on 13 September 2012 the Whanganui River became the first river in the world to gain recognition as a legal identity. Today the river and its surrounds are used for a number of recreational activities including kayaking, jet boating, tramping, cycling and camping.
The Ra II in the Kon-Tiki Museum In 1969 and 1970, Heyerdahl built two boats from papyrus and attempted to cross the Atlantic Ocean from Morocco in Africa. Based on drawings and models from ancient Egypt, the first boat, named Ra (after the Egyptian Sun god), was constructed by boat builders from Lake Chad using papyrus reed obtained from Lake Tana in Ethiopia and launched into the Atlantic Ocean from the coast of Morocco. The Ra crew included Thor Heyerdahl (Norway), Norman Baker (USA), Carlo Mauri (Italy), Yuri Senkevich (USSR), Santiago Genovés (Mexico), Georges Sourial (Egypt) and Abdullah Djibrine (Chad). Only Heyerdahl and Baker had sailing and navigation experience.
The iconic rock walls were not included in the original competition entry, even though the Suomalainen brothers had considered the idea, because they believed that it was too radical for the competition jury. But when conductor Paavo Berglund shared his knowledge of acoustics from some of the best music halls and the acoustical engineer Mauri Parjo gave requirements for the wall surfaces, the Suomalainen brothers discovered that they could fulfill all the requirements for the acoustics by leaving the rock walls exposed in the Church Hall. The Temppeliaukio church is one of the most popular tourist attractions in the city; half a million people visit it annually. The stone- hewn church is located in the heart of Helsinki.
Mauri Pelto has been studying the glaciers in the North Cascades located in the U.S. state of Washington since 1984. Pelto's research team has recorded the mass balance of numerous glaciers, all of which are retreating due to global warming, which has raised temperatures and decreased the amount of snowfall in the accumulation zone of the North Cascade glaciers. More recently, Pelto has used Landsat imagery from the past and compared it to more recent imagery to make comparisons between the extent of glacial coverage over periods spanning decades. Pelto has stated that of the 756 glaciers that were identified in the North Cascades by the U.S. Geological Survey in 1971, 53 of them had disappeared completely by 2006.
Morocco, to the north of the Spanish Sahara, had long claimed that the territory was historically an integral part of Morocco. Mauritania to the south argued similarly that the territory was in fact Mauritanian. Since 1973, a Sahrawi guerrilla war led by the Polisario Front (armed and financed by Algiers) had challenged Spanish control, and in October 1975 Spain had quietly begun negotiations for a handover of power with leaders of the rebel movement, both in El Aaiún, and with foreign minister Pedro Cortina y Mauri meeting El Ouali in Algiers. Morocco intended to vindicate its claims by demanding a verdict from the International Court of Justice (ICJ), which was issued on 16 October 1975.

Circa 220 BC, three large Berber kingdoms had arisen. Markedly influenced by Punic civilization, they had nonetheless endured as separate Berber entities, their culture surviving throughout the long reign of Carthage. West to east these kingdoms were: (1) the Mauri (in modern Morocco) under king Baga; (2) the Masaesyli (in northern Algeria) under Syphax, who then controlled two capitals: to the west Siga (near modern Oran) and to the east Cirta (modern Constantine); and (3) the Massyli (south of Cirta, west and south of nearby Carthage), ruled by Gala [Gaia] (the father of Masinissa). Following the Second Punic War, Massyli and eastern Masaesyli were joined to become Numidia, located in historic Tunisia.
Maukka Perusjätkä Maukka Perusjätkä (born in Helsinki, Finland, 22 July 1961) is the stage name of Mauri Airta, a Finnish new wave and punk rocker during the 1970s and 1980s. He is especially known for his 1979 song Säpinää (”Breaking Away”), which included chainsaw sounds. Chainsaws became one of his trademarks. In the 1970s Perusjätkä (literally “Ordinary guy”) worked with the most notable figures in the Finnish rock scene, known especially for his pairing with Ralf Örn. His first band was called Maukka and Nahkatakit (Literally “Maukka and Leather Jackets”). His first record was released under the name Maukka Perusjätkä Ja Sota Apatiaa Vastaan (”Maukka Ordinary Guy and the War against Apathy”).

In 1970, Head returned to Adelaide and was playing avant garde jazz before forming Headband, an adventurous progressive blues/rock band, with vocalist Chris Bailey (later of The Angels) on bass, Mauri Berg (ex Silhouettes) on guitar and backing vocals and Joff Bateman on drums and backing vocals. Headband released three national singles – "Land of Supercars/How I Miss The Country" (1972) "Country Lady/Stay With Me" (1972) and "A Song For Tooley/Brand New Morning" (1973). The Finnish concerns related to the Finnish grid ability to adapt the Russian power transmission and with the amount of necessary investments into transmission grid. Fingrid said that the regional grid in the southeast of Finland is operating at maximum capacity, and could not handle the additional power. According to the Finnish Mister of Trade and Industry Mauri Pekkarinen the undersea cable project would have required €1.5 billion in investments in strengthening the carrying capacity of the Finnish electricity grid. Some Nordic NGO's expressed a view that the power generated in Sosnovy Bor is not suitable to be used because this nuclear power plant is old-fashioned and could pose an environmental threat.

The area has been inhabited since the neolithic, as evidenced by pottery found in a site near the village of Hrsina. The earliest references to Bosiljevo are from documents dating back to the year 1334, when Ivan the Archdeacon of Gorica mentioned the parish church of Sancti Mauri in Bozilio in the constitution of the Zagreb bishopric. The Bosiljevo castle was built most likely in the early 15th century, and its first owner was Bartol IX Frankopan, member of the Frankopan family. Cultural and historical monuments, such as the Castle Frankopan (which has been in a desolate state of frame since the Nons were expelled in the late 70's), the ruins of the castle Steljnik, old mansions, churches and monasteries yield the county a certain attraction.

At the end of March 1944, the Brigade became a division of three brigades: the Romagna Brigade Group, under the command of Hilary Tabarro (Pietro Mauri), with Libero Head of Staff. Then in early April the Fallschirm-Panzer Division 1 Hermann Göring together with departments of CSR began a comprehensive round-up of partisan groups in which they suffered heavy casualties.

Earlier surveys had suggested that Mzoura stone ring was somehow linked to the civilizations that built Stonehenge and similar structures in Europe. This hypothesis was however rejected by Tarradell, and later also by Gabriel Camps, who both concluded the mound and its stone ring were built as a burial site for a Mauri chief or king by locals using local knowledge. Based on the dating of amphora found in the mound, the site was dated approximately to the 4th or 3rd century BC. The conclusion drawn by Camps and others is that Mzoura cromlech and similar monuments are the vestiges of the emergence process of a powerful confederation or kingdom northwest of Morocco.

Africa Proconsularis was a Roman province on the northern African coast that was established in 146 BC following the defeat of Carthage in the Third Punic War. It roughly comprised the territory of present-day Tunisia, the northeast of Algeria, and the coast of western Libya along the Gulf of Sirte. The territory was originally inhabited by Berber people, known in Latin as Mauri indigenous to all of North Africa west of Egypt; in the 9th century BC, Phoenicians built settlements along the Mediterranean Sea to facilitate shipping, of which Carthage rose to dominance in the 8th century BC until its conquest by the Roman Republic. It was one of the wealthiest provinces in the western part of the Roman empire, second only to Italia.

The company does not perform in the Central Karelian language (the latter being the same language variant as Tver Karelian). The plays consist of well-known folk stories and of various life situations that are familiar to all people. The company strives to present the plays in such a way that enables even those with little or no knowledge of Karelian to follow them. The puppets make it easier for the audience to grasp the essence of the plays. Čičiliusku visited Finland during November 10–17, 2012, and performed two plays, Canine Kalevala, based on the book of the same title by the Finnish cartoonist and author Mauri Kunnas, and the aforementioned Kuin hukka vasikalla muamona oli (‘When the Wolf Stood in for the Calf’s Mother’).

The co-princes of Andorra are jointly the head of state () of the Principality of Andorra, a landlocked microstate lying in the Pyrenees between France and Spain. Founded in 1278 by means of a treaty between the bishop of Urgell and the Count of Foix, this unique diarchical arrangement has persisted through medieval times to the 21st century. Currently, the bishop of Urgell (Joan Enric Vives Sicília) and the president of France (Emmanuel Macron) serve as Andorra's princes, following the transfer of the count of Foix's claims to the Crown of France and, thence, to the president of France. Born in Rome, the son of a painter, during the Second World War Scaccia was conscripted into the army as an officer in Sicily; made prisoner by the American army, he was taken in Morocco, where he remained three years. In 1945 Scaccia returned to Rome, where he abandoned his studies in pedagogy and enrolled at the Accademia Nazionale di Arte Drammatica Silvio D'Amico, attending only the first year; in 1946 he started appearing on stage, usually as character actor. In 1961 Scaccia was co-founder, together with Valeria Moriconi, Franco Enriquez and Glauco Mauri, of the Compagnia dei Quattro ("Company of the Four") that gained critical and commercial success. At the same time Scaccia was a prolific character actor in films, TV series and radio-dramas.
In 2003 he curated Un anfiteatro per la Pace: stendardi d'artista, an exhibition featuring the work of Carla Accardi, Arcangelo, Angelo Bellobono, Elisabetta Benassi, Dafni & Papadatos, Gianni Dessi, Francesco Impellizzeri, Jannis Kounellis, H.H. Lim, Mafonso, Luigi Mainolfi, Fabio Mauri, Sukran Moral, Hidetoshi Nagasawa, Luigi Ontani and Giacomo Zaza in Piazza Dante in Caserta. In 2005 he organised Il senso del male, an exhibition conceived as a reflection on the tense political climate following 9/11 questioning the meaning of evil at Chiostro di S. Agostino in Caserta. In 2012 Marino converted dirartecontemporanea into a virtual gallery where artists were invited to create works specifically in a web-related context. His idea was to propose a new way to experience contemporary art, without geographical and temporal boundaries.
Bonifatius first appears as a general of Constantius III in 413, where he defeated the Visigoths of Athaulf at Massilia; he allegedly threw a weapon and wounded the Gothic king himself. Later that decade, Bonifatius was known to be a tribunus commanding a Gothic regiment of foederati in North Africa campaigning against the Mauri, and had a friendship with St. Augustine of Hippo with whom he discussed theological matters. In 422 he was likely recalled to the Western court in Ravenna, where he probably married his Gothic wife Pelagia, daughter of Beremudus, and inherited her father's bucellarii. Bonifatius and Castinus then prepared to launch a campaign against the Vandals and Alans in Spain, but Bonifatius' forces never arrived as the two commanders had quarreled constantly since its inception.
As his wife did, Hetet sees his art as having a spiritual dimension: :The carver Rangi Hetet says that the materials he uses are no simply materials—they have a spiritual nature, being descended from Tane. A carver should show respect for Tane by not carving in too flamboyantly a manner; he should, of course, inject his own mauri into the work, but should do so for the sake of the work, not his own sake. Hetet tries to use raw timber rather than milled timber so as to be able to show respect by following the nature of character of the timber. Hetet's commissions have included a number of meeting houses, four waka taua (war canoes 60+ feet long) and a number of institutional pieces such as the one at LINZ.

According to the Chronicle of 754, Roderic immediately upon securing his throne gathered a force to oppose the Arabs and Berbers (Mauri, whence the word "Moors"), who were raiding in the south of the Iberian peninsula and had destroyed many towns under Tariq ibn Ziyad and other Muslim generals. While later Arabic sources make the conquest of Hispania a singular event undertaken at the orders of the governor Musa ibn Nosseyr of Ifriqiya, according to the Chronicle, which was written much nearer in date to the actual events, the Arabs began disorganised raids and undertook to conquer the peninsula only with the fortuitous death of Roderic and the collapse of the Visigothic nobility. Whangarei Northern Maori had been held by the Labour Party since the 1938 election, when longstanding Reform MP Taurekareka Henare was beaten by Labour's Paraire Karaka Paikea. In 1993, after 55 years of his party holding the seat, Labour MP Bruce Gregory was beaten by Henare's great grandson, Tau Henare, standing for New Zealand First, ending Labour's unbroken hold on the four Māori seats. Henare went on to win Te Tai Tokerau after the switch to MMP, and New Zealand First won all five of the newly-drawn Māori electorates. After a tumultuous parliamentary term which saw all but one of the five New Zealand First Māori MPs defect to other parties, (including Henare himself, who went on to found Mauri Pacific), Labour won all six Māori electorates contested at the 1999 election.
The original inhabitants of Mauritania were the Bafour, presumably a Mande ethnic group, connected to the contemporary Arabized minor social group of Imraguen ("fishermen") on the Atlantic coast. The territory of Mauritania was on the fringe of geographical knowledge of Libya in classical antiquity. Berber immigration took place from about the 3rd century. Mauritania takes its name from the ancient Berber kingdom and later Roman province of Mauretania, and thus ultimately from the Mauri people, even though the respective territories do not overlap, historical Mauritania being considerably further north than modern Mauritania. The Muslim conquest of the Maghreb in the 7th and 8th centuries did not reach as far south, and Islam came to Mauritania only gradually, from about the 11th century, in the context of the wider Islamization of the Sudan and medieval Arab slave trade.

Enrico Crispolti and Franco Summa set up in Pescara an exhibition titled Postal Medium containing works by Cavellini, Basilio Cascella and other mail artists. In Pescara Cavellini made a new writing performance on some panels and on the body of Gianni Romeo. In March 1980 the artist Galeazzo Nardini invited Cavellini at a convention in Montecatini Terme titled Critica 1 – L'arte da chi a chi, directed by Gillo Dorfles with the participation of Christo, Daniel Buren, Andy Warhol, Pierre Restany, Giuseppe Chiari and Fabio Mauri.
It became part of the Alliance group of parties in 1991. Some members of the party who did not support joining the Alliance founded the Mana Māori Movement, which contested elections between 1994 and 2002 but again failed to win a seat. Since the founding of New Zealand First, a populist party under the leadership of former National Party cabinet minister Winston Peters, in the early 1990s, Labour have faced a serious challenge for the Māori vote, both from New Zealand First and from Māori- specific parties. New Zealand First championed Māori issues, gaining a large proportion of the Māori vote and gained several seats, among them five Māori MPs known as "The Tight Five". A split in the party in 1998 led to the founding of the multicultural Mauri Pacific Party, headed by Tau Henare.

In 1969, Alicia's sister Esther married Alberto Alcocer and six months later, Alicia married Alberto Alcocer's cousin Alberto Cortina, the son of Pedro Cortina Mauri, foreign minister during the Franco period and founder of the beer brand San Miguel. In 533 AD, the Byzantine general Belisarius reconquered the former Diocese of Africa from the Vandals on behalf of the Emperor Justinian I. All the territory west of Caesarea had already been lost by the Vandals to the Berber "Mauri", but a re-established Dux Mauretaniae kept a military unit at Septem (modern Ceuta). This was the last Byzantine outpost in Mauretania Tingitana; the rest of what had been the Roman province was united with the Byzantine part of Andalusia under the name of the Praetorian prefecture of Africa, with Septem as administrative capital. Most of the Maghreb littoral was later organised as the Exarchate of Africa, a special status in view of the outpost defense needs. When the Umayyad Caliphate conquered all of Northern Africa, it brought Islam to the local adherents of the traditional Berber religion and Christianity.
Manuscript evidence alone indicates that the Quesnelliana had a fairly wide dissemination in Gaul during the eighth and ninth centuries; though it had perhaps already found a welcome audience with Gallic or Frankish bishops in the sixth century, when it may have been used as a source (along with the Sanblasiana) for the Collectio canonum Colbertina and the Collectio canonum Sancti Mauri. By the mid-eighth century, the Quesnelliana had secured its place as an important lawbook within the Frankish episcopate, for whom it served as the primary source-book during the influential council of Verneuil in 755, over which Pepin the Short presided. Thus, despite its probably being generally perceived as an archaic document that had much to say about doctrinal controversies that were no longer relevant, the Quesnelliana continued to exert considerable influence on canonical activities in Francia throughout the eighth and ninth centuries.
In 533, the Roman army under Belisarius defeated and destroyed the Vandal Kingdom that had existed in the former Roman territories of Northern Africa. Immediately after the victory, in April 534, the emperor Justinian published a law concerning the administrative organization of the recovered territories. The old provinces of the Roman Diocese of Africa had been mostly preserved by the Vandals, but large parts, including almost all of Mauretania Tingitana, much of Mauretania Caesariensis and Mauretania Sitifensis and large parts of the interior of Numidia and Byzacena, had been lost to the inroads of Berber tribes, collectively called the Mauri (Moors). Nevertheless, Justinian restored the old administrative division, but raised the overall governor at Carthage to the supreme administrative rank of praetorian prefect, thereby ending the Diocese of Africa's traditional subordination to the Prefecture of Italy (then still under the rule of the Ostrogothic Kingdom).
In some cases, the Romans would assume a loose suzerainty over the tribe, in effect dictating the choice of new chiefs. These practices were applied on all the frontiers: Germans along the Rhine, Sarmatians along the Danube, Armenian kings and Caucasian and Saracen tribes on the Eastern frontier and Mauri in North Africa.Jones (1964) 611 Recalcitrant tribes which resisted inclusion in this client-state system (or attempted to break away from it e.g. by overthrowing a pro-Roman leader, as happened on frequent occasions) would suffer coercion in the form of punitive incursions by the Roman army, accompanied by scorched-earth tactics: the Romans would systematically ravage the tribe's crops and destroy its livestock and burn its villages until exhaustion and starvation forced the barbarians to come to terms.Elton (1996) 221-7 The forward-defence strategy was highly successful in protecting the empire's borders until the late 2nd century.
Curtis Casalensis has been a territorial institution (1346-1797) in Brianza, Lombardy, Italy. Canz was the chieftown, and had jurisdiction on the communes of Carella, Caslino, Cassina Mariaga, Castelmarte, Longone, Mariaga, Penzano and Proserpio. The formal foundation is dated 1403, during the rule of the House of Visconti in Milan, but its existence is attested at least since 1346 with the name of Team of Canzo (Squadra Cantii). In 1435, along with eight other pieves and communal teams (Pieves of Oggiono, Missaglia, Garlate, Brivio, part of that of Agliate, and the Teams of Nibionno and that of Mauri), formed the Universitas Montis Briantiae, an aggregation of Medieval communes with voice in front of the ducal authority, and in particular in front of the revenue authority. The Universitas Montis Briantiae was a «little republic or, more precisely, an autonomous province within the State of Milan».
Preliminary findings showed that the lake, and in particular the lake edge still holds significant mahinga kai values, despite obvious water quality, modification, pressure and native vegetation issues. As a result of the study, and in particular the interviews with Tāngata whenua, a number of unique themes and health indicators for Lake Ellesmere / Te Waihora were identified. Drivers of change were identified as: catchment land use modification and intensification; drainage, management and reclamation of wetlands; decline in quality; and access to mahinga kai and a decline in inflow and lake water quality and quantity. Major changes over time were identified as: the loss of mahinga kai habitat; loss of matauranga Ngai Tahu (the knowledge of the local iwi); domination of the fishery by commercial operators; declining access and use of the lake and mahinga kai; and degradation of mauri (life force) of the lake and mana.

All three were engaged in bitter conflict with Rome during the rule of Augustus (30 BC – AD 14), and Tacfarinas was able to gain the support of substantial elements of all three tribes for his insurgency. Tacfarinas (Latinised form of Berber Tikfarin or Takfarin; died AD 24) was a Numidian Berber deserter from the Roman army who led his own Musulamii tribe and a loose and changing coalition of other Berber tribes in a war against the Romans in North Africa during the rule of the emperor Tiberius (AD 14–37). Though Tacfarinas' personal motivation is unknown, it is likely that the Roman occupation under Augustus of the traditional grazing grounds of the Musulamii was the determining factor.

Given the emergency, Dolabella would have been justified in requesting the postponement of the 9th legion's imminent departure, but he did not dare to confront Tiberius with the grim reality of the situation in Africa. By the start of the AD 24 campaign-season, Tacfarinas felt strong enough to lay siege to the Roman strongpoint of Thubursicum (Khamissa, Algeria or Teboursouk, Tunisia).
Following the elections, petitions were submitted to the High Court regarding alleged malpractice in the Faasaleleaga I, Palaluli East, Faleata West and European constituencies. Galla Placidia sought to prevent Castinus from gaining the position of Stilicho before him, and as a result Castinus attempted to remove Bonifatius from power. Bonifatius retreated to North Africa where he acquired the command of comes africae under dubious circumstances and continued his campaigns against the Mauri tribes. After the death of Emperor Honorius the primicerius notariorum Joannes was elevated to the throne by Castinus in 424, and Bonifatius responded by cutting off the Grain supply from North Africa, showing his support for Placidia and Theodosius II. Prosper states that Joannes forces were weakened because they were campaigning against Bonifatius in North Africa, but were unable to depose him like in the campaigns against Gildo and other North African usurpers. After a revolt in Gaul and a military campaign under the eastern generals Ardabur and Aspar sent by Theodosius II, Joannes was overthrown, and Valentinian III, nephew of Honorius, was made Western emperor by the magister officiorum Helion.
Gasherbrum IV Cassin was supposed to have been on the Italian expedition that made the first ascent of K2 in the Karakoram in 1954, but Ardito Desio, the chief expedition leader for the Italian Alpine Club, preferred not to have Cassin participate. According to Cassin himself: Following this experience, Cassin concentrated on organizing and leading expeditions himself, including the first ascent of Gasherbrum IV in the Karakorum Range by Walter Bonatti and Carlo Mauri on 6 August 1958 and an expedition that climbed Jirishanca in the Andes in 1969. In 1961, Cassin was both leader of and a successful ascentionist on the expedition that made the first ascent of the eponymous Cassin Ridge on Mount McKinley in Alaska, at that date the most technical route on the mountain. After this ascent, President Kennedy sent Cassin a telegram of congratulations and, had the Bay of Pigs crisis not intervened, he was scheduled to meet Cassin.
