These events were retold in the 1980 miniseries The Untold Legend of the Batman. Following the Crisis on Infinite Earths, Thomas as the "First Batman" was retconned - he instead attends the masquerade ball as Zorro. This was retconned once more in the pages of Superman/Batman, where Superman, hoping to reverse some universe-altering change in the time streams, lands in a version of Gotham City in which Thomas never died, finding him giving out Halloween candy in the original Batman costume. In many of the modern interpretations of the character, such as those by Frank Miller and Jeph Loeb, Thomas Wayne is portrayed as having been a distant, stern father, bestowing more kindness and generosity on his patients than his own son.

Jocelyn Vena of MTV News found an "old school" vibe similar to the song's sound and to that of Grande's previous released single "Baby I" which also draws from 1990s influences. Cena also claimed that the video for "Right There" does not stray too far from the events written by Shakespeare and this is the kind of "schmaltz that Luhrmann would appreciate." Jason Lipshutz from Billboard considered the video as an understated tribute to the annual holiday Halloween – which started on October 31, a day following the video's release – for its modern-day "masquerade ball, complete with flowing gowns, wacky masks and Shakespearean nods." The Los Angeles Timess Mikael Wood wrote that Grande puts her "well-established love of princess dresses to work" in the music video.
His designs are usually presented as "suites" that are recorded in professional photographs— these are vignettes including head dresses, costumes, and jewelry that derive from a specific fantasy theme supported by set backgrounds, props, flamboyant costumes, and sometimes other models as well as Mr. Love himself. Love has worn these costumes at fantasy- themed events on the American West Coast, including the Edwardian Ball, Vampire Ball, Labyrinth of Jareth Masquerade Ball, and the Renaissance Pleasure Faire of Southern California, and has changed costumes and props multiple times during some of them. He assembles between 30 and 40 costume suites per year. He has appeared twice on the cover of AVANT GARDE Magazine, with the magazine's November 2018 issue being dedicated to him as a "special designer".
Brian Henson remembered his father, Jim Henson, as being aware that Labyrinth and The Dark Crystal both had cult followings by the time of his death in 1990, saying, "he was able to see all that and know that it was appreciated." Academic Andrea Wright wrote that Labyrinth has managed to maintain audience popularity long after its initial release to a greater extent than The Dark Crystal. Since 1997, an annual two-day event called the "Labyrinth of Jareth Masquerade Ball" where revelers come dressed in costumes inspired by the film has been held in various cities, including San Diego, Hollywood, and, most recently, Los Angeles. Labyrinth has a significant Internet fan following, and as of December 29, 2019, Fanfiction.

On 16 March 1792, Gustav III had returned to Stockholm, after spending the day at Haga Palace outside the city, to dine and visit a masquerade ball at the Royal Opera. During dinner, the king received an anonymous letter (written by the colonel of the Life Guards, Carl Pontus Lilliehorn) that contained a threat to his life, but as the king had received numerous threatening letters in the past, he chose to ignore the warning. After dining, the king with Baron Hans Henrik von Essen at his right arm went around the theatre once and then into the foyer where they met Captain Carl Fredrik Pollet. The king, von Essen and Pollet continued through a corridor towards the scene where several dancers and masked men filled the tiles.
At first, the levels featured little directional information to emphasize the player's ability to traverse them as they choose, but in testing, players became lost or obeyed NPC commands to not enter an area, leaving them unable to proceed. In response, the developers introduced more visual cues and verbal hints to direct players. Some features and ideas were removed during the design process, including a mental institution where Corvo would have faced sound-sensitive patients. Discussing the use of violence and the consequences of in-game freedom, developer Joe Houston recounted his experience while watching a tester play a mission to infiltrate a masquerade ball; Houston determined that not killing the NPCs opened up more objectives and interactions, but the tester systematically killed every NPC in the level, which Houston found disconcerting.
Patty was also responsible for the gas leak at the Masquerade ball and the explosion that occurred right after. With the help of her diary, Patty realized she did not kill Richard Hightower; however, Adam snuck into the mental institution to once again mess with Patty's mind in making her believe she did kill Richard Hightower and switched notes in her diary while Patty was asleep. When Patty awoke, Adam convinced her he was Hightower and led her out of the mental institution through the vents and sent her off to Canada to become a nun and convinced her to never return to Genoa City. On August 6, 2010, Patty called Paul saying that she was not going to return to Genoa City and that she loves him.
For the following years, the children of Charles VI were successively kidnapped and recovered by both parties, until the Duke of Burgundy managed to be appointed by royal decree to be the guardian of Louis, the Dauphin and regent of France. Louis did not give up and took every effort to sabotage John's rule, including squandering the money raised for the relief of Calais, then occupied by the English. After this episode, John and Louis broke into open threats and only the intervention of John of Valois, Duke of Berry and uncle of both men, avoided a civil war. Louis was reportedly responsible for the deaths of four dancers at a disastrous 1393 masquerade ball that became known as the Bal des Ardents (Ball of the Burning Men).
Princess Eugénie of Sweden Princess Eugénie had her confirmation in the royal chapel in the Stockholm royal palace 25 October 1845, and was thus considered an adult. The following years, she participated in high society and balls, and was regarded as quite pretty. Contemporaries describe her as having regular features, beautiful hands, and big, glowing dark eyes: "her entire being glows of life and goodness", and that she was "much to her advantage in red and gold" in a Spanish costume at a masquerade ball. Eugénie accompanied her brother Charles to Prussia in 1846 with the thought that she might be presented there as a prospective bride, and she was given proposals from emperor Napoleon III of France as well as from princes in both Denmark and Germany, but none come to fruition.
Luís I and Maria Pia of Savoy at a masquerade ball, 1865. Luís was a cultured man who wrote vernacular poetry, but had no distinguishing gifts in the political field into which he was thrust by the deaths of his brothers Pedro V and Fernando in 1861. Luís's domestic reign was a tedious and ineffective series of transitional governments called Rotativism formed at various times by the Progressistas (Liberals) and the Regeneradores (Conservatives), the party generally favoured by King Luís, who secured their long term in office after 1881. Despite a flirtation with the Spanish succession prior to the Franco-Prussian War of 1870–71, Luís's reign was otherwise one of domestic stagnation as Portugal fell ever further behind the nations of western Europe in terms of public education, political stability, technological progress and economic prosperity.
Fanny Murray c. 1750 in a "Vandyke" fancy dress for a masquerade ball, wearing a heavily adorned "Fanny Murray cap" and a low-cut dress With the support of Harris, Murray quickly rose to the top of London demimonde. At just 17, she was famous and widely desired; one diary from the day records that "it was a vice not to be acquainted with Fanny; it was a crime not to toast her at every meal." She is even mentioned in the memoirs of Giacomo Casanova as the guest of honour at a party held by the British Ambassador to Venice, John Murray (no relation) at his casino, and it has been suggested that she is at least in part an inspiration for Fanny Hill, which was published in 1749 at the height of her fame.

David Bowie performed as Jareth three of the five songs that he wrote for the film's soundtrack: "Magic Dance", "As The World Falls Down" and "Within You". "Magic Dance", which has been described as "a full-blown Muppet showstopper", is performed along with spontaneous dance by Jareth and his goblins to entertain baby Toby at the castle. The dialogue starting with phrase, "you remind me of the babe" that occurs between Jareth and the goblins at the beginning of the song is a direct reference to an exchange between Cary Grant and Shirley Temple in the 1947 film The Bachelor and the Bobby-Soxer. "As The World Falls Down", described as a "sparkling, subdued ballad", is sung by Jareth to Sarah during a dream sequence at a masquerade ball, and through which he avows his love for her.
In 1864, all the French territories in southern Vietnam were declared to be the new French colony of Cochinchina. During his tenure as Minister of the Marine and the Colonies, he also modernised the French navy and inspired the creation at Brest of an institution for the orphans of the navy, placing it under the special protection of the Emperor. With the help of his wife, he was also an actor of the elaborate social life of the Second Empire, a period popularly referred to as the fête impériale ("the Imperial festival"). On 13 February 1866, he gathered one of the most flamboyant receptions of the time, a masquerade ball during which, dressed as a Venetian noble, he received his 3000 guests (between whom the Emperor and the Empress) in the restored salons of the ministry, Rue Royale.
Palazzo Pisani Moretta remained in the Pisani family until it died out in 1880 but the building is still owned privately. The interior rooms were decorated by Baroque artists such as Tiepolo, Jacopo Guarana, Gaspare Diziani and Giuseppe Angeli. The palace once housed, among other things, Paolo Veronese's monumental painting The Family of Darius before Alexander, which was viewed here by Goethe in 1786 (diary entry from October 8 of that year) and acquired by the National Gallery, London, in 1857, where it now hangs. The palace is said to have housed a ceiling painting called, The Chariots of Aurora by Giovanni Antonio Pellegrini (1675-1741), which was restored and installed in the Library of George Vanderbilt's Biltmore House in Asheville, NC. It hosts an annual masquerade ball Il Ballo del Doge, held during the Carnival period.
In the primary elections, Buchanan garnered three million total votes or 23% of the vote. Buchanan later threw his support behind Bush and delivered an address at the 1992 Republican National Convention, which became known as the culture war speech, in which he described "a religious war going on in our country for the soul of America." In the speech, he said of Bill and Hillary Clinton: Buchanan also said, in reference to the then recently-held 1992 Democratic National Convention, "Like many of you last month, I watched that giant masquerade ball at Madison Square Garden—where 20,000 radicals and liberals came dressed up as moderates and centrists—in the greatest single exhibition of cross-dressing in American political history." The enthusiastic applause he received prompted his detractors to claim that the speech alienated moderates from the Bush-Quayle ticket.

Vanderbilt House on Fifth Avenue, NY. It was yellow satin decorated with glass pearls and beads in a lightning-bolt pattern. A built-in battery lit a light bulb she carried that she could raise over her head like the Statue of Liberty. This dress was only one of several spectacular gowns that served to make the event the official start of Alva Vanderbilt's role as a leading socialite of New York.Page 192 of the book The Vanderbilts and the Story of Their Fortune, by William Augustus Croffut, 1886 The dress is preserved at Museum of the City of New York.
During an interview with MTV News, the music video's director Nev Todorovic and producer Ally Pankiw of the Young Astronauts opened up to about the video aesthetic. Todorovic said that the references to Luhrmann's 1996 re-telling of the play was something that they had not originally intended on: > "The religious symbolism and the costume party are all from the original > Shakespearean play, but as we were planning the shoot, and especially on > set, we started seeing more of those similarities emerge. Like if you > notice, we had an Astronaut in the masquerade ball and everyone is comparing > it to Paul Rudd's character, but really it was an homage to our team The > Young Astronauts!" According to Todorovic, it was fitting for Big Sean to play the role of the narrator of the story and the priest in the Romeo and Juliet tale, especially "because of the religious imagery in his lyrics".
Chun-Li serves as the tour guide for Ryu and Ken when they pay a visit to work on their training; Ken is smitten with her and later buys her lavish gifts, including an engagement ring. She was known for exchanges with Winston Churchill, though most of these are not well documented. Churchill told Lady Astor that having a woman in Parliament was like having one intrude on him in the bathroom, to which she retorted, "You're not handsome enough to have such fears." Lady Astor is also said to have responded to a question from Churchill about what disguise he should wear to a masquerade ball by saying, "Why don't you come sober, Prime Minister?" Although variations on the following anecdote exist with different people, the story is being told of Winston Churchill's encounter with lady Astor who, after failing to shake him in an argument, broke off with the petulant remark, “Oh, if you were my husband, I’d put poison in your tea.” “Madame,” Winston responded, “if I were your husband, I’d drink it with pleasure.” “If I Were Your Wife I’d Put Poison in Your Tea!” “If I Were Your Husband I’d Drink It”, Quoteinvestigator.com.
On 17 September 2018, a short clip of a masked woman in red was uploaded to the Emmerdale Twitter account, with the tag "and so it begins", hinting that someone was due to make a return to the village during the masquerade ball that Joe Tate (Ned Porteous) was holding for Sarah Sugden (Katie Hill) in October 2018 during what has become known as "stunt week". On 24 September 2018, after a TV announcer accidentally revealed that Claire King would be making an appearance on Lorraine the following morning to discuss her upcoming return to Emmerdale, ITV released an advert promoting stunt week in which several characters appeared facing one another. The masked woman in red walked down the aisle and one by one each character she passed fell down. The masked woman then unmasked herself as Kim Tate, thus confirming the long- rumoured return of the character who has not been seen since 1999.
Beginning his career early, at age 14 he worked as a clothier's apprentice, learning the basics of fashion design and construction. In 1939, he left home to work for a tailor in Vichy, where he began making suits for women. During World War II, he worked in the Red Cross, launching humanitarian interests that continue to this day. Cardin moved to Paris in 1945.
