I snapped a picture of the bill and opened Twitter on my phone, absentmindedly imagining that someone might be interested in knowing why we medical mamas care so much about laws that ensure our access to affordable health care, why Obamacare has been a lifeline to our children, banning lifetime limits and ensuring that no one would deny them coverage simply because they'd been born with preexisting conditions like heterotaxy.

On the issue of black maternal health, groups like the Black Mamas Matter Alliance, an advocacy and research organization focused on black maternal health, rights and justice, have stepped up not only to call for large-scale policy reforms, but also to do work with a more immediate impact, such as offering trainings for clinicians, midwives, doulas and other maternal care service providers on how to provide respectful, holistic care to black mothers.

And while some mamas (I see both spellings for the 9D song on Google, but prefer this one) might not want their babies to grow up to be crossword constructors — unless there is a sudden change in the order of the universe and the occupation becomes financially feasible — I am of the opinion that learning new things both from solving and from learning to make your own puzzles is a spiffy way to keep life exciting and enjoyable.
