While his corporeal form dies, however, his malignant spirit lives on in the Outback. From there, he communicates with Julie and two of her clients - The Maxx, a homeless man who believes himself to be a superhero, and Sarah James, a depressed teenager who goes to Julie for counseling. He torments them with vague, riddling clues about their pasts, leaving them with more questions than answers. Every time he resumes a physical shape, however, Julie destroys it.

Though Dexter is instantly humbled & frightened by Moloch, he continuously mocks the malignant spirit, which in turn entrances the trio & orders them to be sacrificed in a flaming pit. Dexter manages to snap out of his trance & opens fire on the cult members. Moloch takes Astor hostage & threatens to kill her, only for Cody to stab him in the back with his own ceremonial knife. Dexter laments that, due to having killed at such an early age, Cody's journey will now be more difficult.

Lady Warple and her daughters discuss spiritualism – her latest fad. She tells them of a sceptical woman who went to a séance and became possessed by a malignant spirit. Their cynical young friend Reggie suggests holding an impromptu séance, at the end of which Lady Warple is discovered in a trance. They revive her, and at first she seems normal, but any mention of the weather causes her to growl like a dog and rush about on all fours, before suddenly returning to normal.

At her home, after her death, before leaving Darma had taken the small jar with him, and with it, the malignant spirit. Not satisfied with why Rose had suddenly killed herself, Darma decides to investigate the case with the help of Rose's twin sister, Seri, (also played by Intan Ladyana). As they probe into the death, a series of strange occurrences start to unravel, leaving Darma in a disturbed state of mind that affects his life and career.

Rachel accidentally falls into the well, where she receives a vision revealing that Anna suffocated Samara with a plastic bag and throwing her into the well, where she survived for seven days. Finding Samara's skeletal remains, Rachel discovers that the time she was supposed to be killed by the curse has passed, and she and Noah return home, believing the curse is finally broken. However, Aidan makes her realize the curse is never ending. Samara's malignant spirit emerges from Noah's TV and kills him, with Rachel arriving too late to save him.

At a ritual of some kind at the Pale Horse, Mark witnesses Thyrza apparently channel a malignant spirit through an electrical apparatus. Shortly afterwards, Ginger falls ill and begins to decline rapidly. In desperation, Mark turns to Poppy again, who now mentions a friend (Eileen Brandon) who resigned from a research organisation called CRC (Customers' Reactions Classified) that seems to be connected with the Pale Horse. When Mrs Brandon is interviewed, she reveals that both she and Mrs Davis worked for the organisation, which surveyed targeted people about what foods, cosmetics and proprietary medicines they used.
