The capture of Résistance and Constance by HMS San Fiorenzo and Nymphe, 9 March 1797. After repairs at Plymouth, during which she was coppered, the ship was recommissioned in May 1796 under the command of Captain John Cooke. On 9 March 1797 Nymphe and , while making a reconnaissance of Brest, sighted two French ships standing in towards the harbour. After a sharp action lasting no more than 30 minutes they captured both ships, which proved to be the 48-gun frigate and the 24-gun corvette Constance built in 1794, both returning from the failed expedition to Wales.

The film is set against the Japanese occupation of the Philippines in World War II. An American spy, Emmett Wilson, is captured by the Japanese while making a reconnaissance of Leyte Gulf in preparation for an American invasion. When torture fails to loosen his tongue, his Japanese captors begin executing one Filipino citizen each day, until Wilson talks. Lieut. Robert Grimm parachutes into the forest held by the local Filipino freedom fighters and persuades the guerrillas to attack the Japanese camp and rescue Wilson. But the rescue attempt fails, and as more innocent prisoners continue to die, Wilson decides to tell the vile Captain Akira what he wants to know.

Manaslu from Timang Village In 1950, H. W. Tilman was the first European to lead an expedition to the Annapurna Range with a small party of five compatriots. They walked on foot from the Kathmandu valley (six days of trekking from the valley), and using Manang as their base camp they started exploring the mountain ranges, peaks and valleys of the Annapurna massif. During this exploration, while making a reconnaissance of the higher reaches of the Dudh Khola, they clearly saw Manaslu from Bumtang. Three months later, after their aborted trip to Annapurna IV, Tilman, accompanied by Major J. O. M. Roberts, trekked to Larkya La pass and from there saw Manaslu and its plateau and concluded that there was a direct route to the summit, although they did not make an attempt on it.
