Jane Helier makes a return in Miss Marple's Final Cases, still young and beautiful (despite the forty-seven year difference between the books), in the short story Strange Jest.

Holly makes a return appearance in the episode "Sexy", this time subbing for McKinley's sex education teacher. In that same episode she also begins a romantic relationship with Will. Holly's third and final appearance that season is in the episode "A Night of Neglect", in which she breaks off her relationship with Will because she knows he is in love with Emma. Murphy stated at PaleyFest in March 2011 that Paltrow as Holly would be returning in season three for a series of guest appearances, but she has not appeared on Glee in the two years since that announcement.

The turn-based combat system remains in place from the first two games, but hit points are now shown above the target following attacks or healing actions, rather than captioned as in the previous two games. Auto-targeting for physical attacks after a friendly or enemy unit is killed is also featured for the first time. Unlike subsequent games in the series, magical attacks are not auto-targeted in the same fashion. The experience point system featured in Final Fantasy makes a return following its absence from Final Fantasy II. The character class system featured in the first game also reappears, with some modifications.

Ahsoka helps Ezra escape while returning (with Morai) to her timeline moments after the Sith temple collapsed, vowing to find Ezra and the crew again. Ahsoka makes a return appearance in the epilogue of the series finale "Family Reunion and Farewell", returning to Lothal following the events of the Battle of Endor to join Sabine Wren in her quest to find Ezra, who disappeared during Lothal's liberation.

After a failed raid on a bike yard, Todd is forced to confess and then is later attacked by Boof, but Josh comes to Todd's aid. When Cody's parents, Doug Willis (Terence Donovan) and Pam Willis (Sue Jones) buy Number 28 from Des Clarke (Paul Keane), Todd is thrilled at the prospect of having his girlfriend living next door. However, Beverly's second miscarriage is the final straw for her marriage to Jim, which results in Beverly leaving for Perth but not before taking Todd back to Adelaide. Todd is heartbroken and later makes a return to Erinsborough and hides out in Cody's room until being caught by Pam.

The series celebrates its 300th episode but due to the writers' strike this season runs three episodes shorter than normal. As a result, certain storylines were altered, including Gates' relationship with hospital chaplain Julia Dupree. With Kovač in Croatia, the focus shifts to Abby as she adapts to life as a single parent. Meanwhile, new ER chief Kevin Morretti continues to make his presence felt until he makes a swift exit, Pratt is angered when locum Dr. Wexler is appointed as Morretti's replacement, Sam and Gates start a relationship and Jeanie Boulet makes a return to the ER when her son is brought in.

Frank reappears in Dead Rising 2: Off the Record, which is an alternate version of the Dead Rising 2 storyline in which Frank is the protagonist. In this version of the story, Frank became an overnight celebrity for his actions in exposing the Willamette incident.

One historical character, the notorious 'Thief- taker General' Jonathan Wild, also makes a return appearance. Weaver's romantic interest this time is the seductive Celia Glade who turns out to be, of course, not what she seems. Bullets can ricochet off surfaces or targets and strike others. The player can also hold their breath to steady their shot and more precisely determine the direction their bullet will travel in. The "X-Ray Kill Cam" feature from V2 also makes a return, in which when a successful and skilled shot is made, the camera will track the bullet from the sniper rifle to the target in slow motion, and upon impact will show an anatomically correct x-ray style reveal of the body part being hit and the damage the bullet causes to the organs and bones. Hui Qi is determined to help Yong Wen in his court case because he has previously supported her studies. It was through his financial support that she could afford to fulfill her ambition and graduate from law school. When Hui Qi investigates the factory where Yong Wen’s injury took place, she finds out that it belonged to Guo Dong and decides to pursue adequate compensation for Yong Wen. Guo Dong is left with no choice but to hire Jian Zhi to fight against Hui Qi. In the midst of Jian Zhi’s investigations, he discovers a shocking secret where Yong Wen had caused the death of Hui Qi’s mother by stealing her money meant for her daughter’s education and driving her to commit suicide. At the end of the case, Hui Qi and Jian Zhi gradually drew closer, but their love could not blossom when Jian Zhi’s ex-girlfriend, He Le Er, makes a return to his life. Le Er pleads for Jian Zhi’s sympathy, claiming that she has been living with fear due to her husband, Luo Dong Hai’s abusive behaviour.

Lois Maxwell's 22-year-old daughter, Melinda Maxwell, was also cast as one of the "perfect" human specimens from Drax's master race.
