The Cheltenham Festival took place the following week with two matches on the College Ground: against Sussex starting on Monday, 19 August; and a return against Yorkshire starting on Thursday, 22 August. Gloucestershire made short work of Sussex, winning by an innings and 24 runs in less than two days. Grace made only 2 of Gloucestershire's total of 198 but he was again outstanding with the ball and took 13 wickets in the match (6–18 and 7–88).
Newton was set for a comeback fight at K-1's HEROs MMA promotion against Melvin Manhoef at the Ariake Coliseum on August 5, but had to pull out of the fight at the last minute due to a torn ligament in his knee. He made a second attempt at a comeback in K-1 HEROs, this time facing Tokimitsu Ishizawa. Newton made short work of the Japanese fighter, needing only four punches to score the TKO victory in just 22 seconds. He then faced Shungo Oyama at Hero's Korea 2007 where he lost by submission due to punches.
Reade was a batsman and a "right-hand medium-paced bowler, with a graceful delivery". Playing for Otago against Canterbury in 1870-71 he top-scored in each innings with 33 and 22 and also had Otago's best bowling figures of 4 for 73. He made his highest score of 38 against Canterbury in 1873-74, when he put on a partnership of 96 for the second wicket in a match in which Canterbury's two innings totalled only 116. When James Lillywhite's XI made short work of Southland in 1876-77, Reade, Southland's captain, top-scored in each innings, with 8 and 10.
The most important was the first group, which was divided in four columns, each assigned to a landing area at a harbor and an inland target on which to advance. Despite some stubborn resistance by some patriots, especially at Durrës, the Italians made short work of the Albanians. Durrës was captured on 7 April, Tirana the following day, Shkodër and Gjirokastër on 9 April, and almost the entire country by 10 April. Unwilling to become an Italian puppet, King Zog, his wife, Queen Geraldine Apponyi, and their infant son Leka fled to Greece and eventually to London.
He saw the Ottoman armies collapse or fall into disorganization after their defeat in Syria, and it looked like the Middle East and Anatolia were his for the taking. With the Ottoman Empire at the feet of Muhammad Ali, the European powers were greatly alarmed and now put into action a plan that had been prepared to meet a contingency which had been long foreseen. Their intervention during the Oriental Crisis of 1840 was prompt, and they made short work of Muhammad Ali's armed forces. But the Western Powers, the West had no intention of removing Ali and the block he placed on Ottoman Power.
It made short work of Firepower, and Stark was so horrified of the destructive potential of the armor should it fall into the wrong hands, he resolved to destroy it. After the confrontation with Firepower, he changed his mind, encoding all subsequent armors with a series of complex microchips that would self-destruct if duplication was attempted by anyone else without specific passcodes known only to Stark. This armor resembled the classic armor which had endured for many years, with some minor cosmetic changes. Its appearance changed somewhat, mainly becoming more bulky, ostensibly to increase thruster power (its massive boot-jets earning it the some-time nickname "coffeepot armor").
Harlan's first major military engagement was a short siege at the Citadel of Saighan, controlled by the Tajik slave-trader Mohammad Ali Beg. Harlan's artillery made short work of the fortress. As a result of this performance, local powers clamored to become Harlan's friends as various Hazara chiefs asked to see Harlan, the man who had brought down the walls of the mighty fortress of Saighan, and who promised to end the raids of the slavers. One of the most powerful and ambitious local rulers was Mohammad Reffee Beg Hazara, a prince of Ghor, an area in the central and western part of what is now the country of Afghanistan.
Uruguay's Nacional would trounce Honduras' Olimpia 5-1 on aggregate the following year. Colombia's Atlético Nacional made short work of Club Universidad Nacional; however, South America hegemony would once again be broken by América after defeating Paraguay's Olimpia. Compatriots Puebla failed to retain the trophy in Mexico after being routed by Chile's Colo-Colo. The importance of the competition decreased significantly after two Brazilian clubs, Copa Libertadores winners São Paulo (1993) and Grêmio (1995) declined to participate out of disinterest; both times, the Copa Libertadores runners- up, Chilean side Universidad Católica and Atlético Nacional took their place; each of them were pushed to the limit by Costa Rica's Saprissa.
Even as a two-year Nereide acquired a reputation as a good filly and won everything she contested. In the history of German Thoroughbred breeding, there were several similarly successful two-year-old fillies, but Nereide was the only one who was able to continue their triumphant advance as a three-year-old. In the German Derby Periander set a very fast pace but in the home stretch Nereide made short work of the finish by defeating Periander. In winning this race Nereide set a new record of 2:28.8, which was not beaten until 1993 by Lando. The Derby record time shows that Nereide’s superiority was based on the weakness of the competition but on their own strength.
An observer noted that the presence of the Jäger battalion inspired particular fear in the rebels, "who generally made short work of them, and gave them no quarter". As a result, rather than be captured, many rebels, including Fédon, threw themselves down the hillside to escape. Fedon's army experienced great losses; the government army, on the other hand, lost nine dead and 55 wounded. The mopping-up operation—what Nicols called being "in search of the Monsters in every direction"—began immediately; in one of his final despatches from Grenada, Abercromby informed London that "there appeared a general Disposition in the Revolted to submit; and to throw themselves upon the Mercy of the British Government".
The advantage of a > retrodiction over a prediction is that the already gathered data is more > likely to be free of experimenter bias. An example of a retrodiction is the > perihelion shift of Mercury which Newtonian mechanics plus gravity was > unable, totally, to account for whilst Einstein's general relativity made > short work of it.The Everett Interpretation Another use refers to a process by which one attempts to test a theory whose predictions are too long-term to be tested by waiting for a future event to occur. Instead, one speculates about uncertain events in the more distant past, and applies the theory to consider how it would have predicted a known event in the less distant past.
Having made their way into Darkseid's citadel where Kalibak was readying his Chaos Cannon to fire again, the caped crusaders kept Darkseid's forces occupied while Cyborg made short work of the massive war engine, literally tearing it in half. But when he went to set a timed self-destruct sequence within the Apokoliptian computers, Vic suffered a catastrophic feedback that fried most of his internal systems leaving him inoperable just as Darkseid himself made his appearance.Batman and Robin Vol 2 #36 While Batman fought and held Darkseid off, Cyborg ran Batgirl through a crash course on how to hot wire his own Mother Box. Since Darkseid smashed Batman's Boom Tube generator, Cyborg was their only chance off Apokolips.
Vale then came from behind in extra-time to beat Fulham in the second round, eased past Northampton Town, beat Potteries derby rivals Stoke City, and finally overcame Exeter City over two legs. Stockport County made short work of Chesterfield and Chester City in the group stages, before reaching the final with wins over Hartlepool United, Bradford City, Chesterfield (again) and Wigan Athletic. Both teams had competed in the Second Division play-off semi-finals earlier in the week, with Port Vale winning the tie 2–1 on aggregate. Port Vale won the match 2–1 with Paul Kerr and Bernie Slaven putting them two goals up at half-time and a 66th-minute strike from Kevin Francis proving to be little more than a consolation.
He has also switched gyms, moving from Captain Odessa in the Ukraine to Mike's Gym in Amsterdam at the tail-end of 2010. Kyshenko has been on a roll with his new gym, picking up wins against strong opposition such as Gago Drago and Nieky Holzken. Even though Kyshenko's stance is mostly orthodox, many claim that due to the recent change of gyms, he is now a dual- stance, as seen in his fight against Gago Drago. (Editor's note: dual-stance meaning he uses both the orthodox and south-paw stance.) He made short work of Chris Ngimbi in the quarter-finals of the K-1 World MAX 2012 World Championship Tournament Final before outpointing Andy Souwer in the semis, in the fourth match of their rivalry.
Mortara's pace picked up and he made short work of Vanthoor, taking the lead at Lisboa, and would not be headed again as he became the first driver to win consecutive Formula Three Macau Grands Prix. Vanthoor held second to the end, holding off increasing pressure from Bottas, but due to a lack of straight- line speed down to his less-powerful Mercedes engine, Bottas could not stay with Vanthoor and thus negated a chance to pass. Wittmann ran a lonely race to fourth ahead of van der Zande, who repassed Félix da Costa on lap eleven. Vergne was seventh ahead of Merhi, who avoided the start-line shunt to move up from 22nd to eighth, with the top ten rounded out by Rosenqvist and Huertas.
Burton's answer lay in court about three weeks, when on 19 May the attorney-general, Sir John Bankes, denouncing it as scandalous, referred it to the chief justices, Sir John Bramston and Sir John Finch. They made short work of it, striking out sixty-four sheets, and leaving no more than six lines at the beginning and twenty-four at the end. Thus mutilated, Burton would not own it; he was not allowed to frame a new answer, and on 2 June it was ordered that he, like the rest, should be proceeded against pro confesso. Sentence was passed on 14 June, the defendants crying out for justice, and demanding that they should not be condemned without examination of their answers.
Takada returned to the ring in 2006 as The Esperanza (reference to the nickname of his early days), a supernatural wrestling cyborg created by Generalissimo Takada. The Esperanza made short work of his opponent TAJIRI and pinned him with Nobuhiko's trademark kick to the head. At HustleMania 2006, he defeated Razor Ramon HG in what was billed as (kayfabe) HG's retirement match, pinning him and giving him his own finisher, the 69 Driver, which caused "erectile dysfunction" to HG. The Esperanza was outlined as invincible until Hustlemania 2007, when he was surprisingly defeated by Wataru Sakata thanks to the magical aid of Sakata's wife Eiko Koike. The Esperanza's last match was at HUSTLE Aid 2009, when he was finally beaten by Magnum TOKYO.
The Nordiques opened the 1984 Stanley Cup playoffs with a best of five Adams Division semi-final series against the Buffalo Sabres. The Sabres finished the season in second place in the Adams Division, earning a record of 48-25-7 for 103 points. The series opened with two games at the Buffalo Memorial Auditorium; however, Quebec struck first, holding off the Sabres for a 3-2 victory in the first game, followed by a 6-2 thrashing in the second game to take a 2-0 series lead. The series moved back to Le Colisée, and the Nordiques made short work of the Sabres, defeating them 4-1 in the third game, to record their first ever series sweep in team history, advancing to the Adams Division finals.
Harrison was signed to the promotion with high hopes that his unique look and incredible physique would help make him become one of the company's homegrown stars. Since the XWF didn't have a television deal, all matches were taped in hopes of using the footage to secure a deal with a network. He debuted on XWF programming as a heel, professional wrestling terminology for a "bad guy," or "villain" and sported trunks with Britain's Union Jack across the front and the back. In his debut, he made short work of Horace Hogan, dominating his opponent with a powerslam and mounted strikes before finishing him off with a leg scissors submission hold placed around the head and neck of Horace who was forced to submit at one minute and thirty five seconds into the contest.

The male lijagulep hybrid was killed by a lion while on display in Glasgow. In his comparison of a leopon with a lijagulep, R I Pocock wrote in The Field (2 November 1912): > The nearest approach to [a lion-leopard] hybrid hitherto reported is the one > bred at Chicago between a male lion and a female cross between a jaguar and > a leopard, the true story of which, accompanied by a good figure by Mr > Frohawk, may be found in the Field for April 18 and 25, and May 9, 1908. While still affected by injuries, the Minutemen dropped their series to Rhode Island with a 1–2–1 record in games played during December and January, and the Rams would go on to win the crown after both they and UMass went 4–0–0 against Penn State, the third remaining ECWHL member. Nationally, a 1–2–0 weekend at a Robert Morris-hosted showcase in early November (including a come-from-ahead loss to the hosts on a late Emily Urban goal) dropped Massachusetts from 5th to 8th in the rankings, and the Minutemen would spend the remainder of the year on the bubble for the eight-team ACHA National Tournament. A strong finish to the regular season, particularly a key sweep of eventual Western Women's Collegiate Hockey League champion Colorado in February, ultimately locked down an ACHA-best 15th nationals bid for the program. However, second-seeded Adrian made short work of No. 7 UMass at the tournament, sweeping their best-of-three quarterfinal series.
The other game between Mountaineers and the Eagles was postponed following the death of Mashonaland coach Kevin Curran, and the rescheduled match was later abandoned. The third round brought victories for the Rhinos and the Tuskers against the Eagles and Rocks, respectively. The Eagles completed a tense one-wicket win over the Tuskers in round four, while the other game was more one-sided with the Rhinos bowling out the Mountaineers for just 66 runs and then chasing down the target in the 13th over of their reply. In round 5, Graeme Cremer scored an unbeaten 106 and then Glen Querl took his first List A five-for to seal a 132-run win for the Tuskers over the Rhinos. Tino Mawoyo scored his first List A century (an unbeaten 120) and shared and opening stand of 182 with Kevin Kasuza (who scored 85), which made short work of the Mountaineers chase of 267 to beat the Rocks.
As Manifold returned to grab reinforcements, Shang and Natasha managed to defeat the entire security force, save the general who proved to be too much for even the Master of Kung Fu. The combined might of Gladiator, Ronan the Accuser and other Council members eventually made short work of Black Dwarf and allows Shang and the infiltration team to complete their mission. With the threat of both the Builders and Thanos thwarted, Shang-Chi is sent to Madripoor along with Black Widow, Falcon, and Wolverine to stop a full-scale riot that has broken throughout out the island nation. Shang-Chi infiltrates a temple housed by Hand but is too late to stop the Hand's new leader Gorgon from completing a ritual which raises the island out of the water up upon the head of a massive dragon. When the dragon begins to take flight, Shang-Chi quickly takes out all of the present Hand ninjas at the temple and challenges the Gorgon.
Only three months after, he returned to IAFC for a similar format, and his performance seemed to follow close. He made short work of his first two opponents with an armbar and a guillotine choke, submitted kickboxer Igor Vovchanchyn by digging his chin into Igor's eye from dominant position, and skipped a match when teammate Achmed Sagidgusenov threw the fight for him. However, at the finals Ilyukhin would meet Brazilian jiu-jitsu exponent Ricardo Morais, an apprentice of Carlson Gracie who outweighed Mikhail by almost 70 Ib. The Russian unexpectedly dominated the first segments of the match, hitting repeated headbutts and punches through Morais's guard until swelling shut one of his eyes, but he made the mistake of standing up, and it allowed the Brazilian to sweep him and take his back. After a long series of elbow strikes to Ilyukhin's spine, Morais locked a rear naked choke and got the win.
In 1920, radio broadcasting in the United States, which before World War I had been limited to a few scattered experimental efforts, was just starting to develop, although there were still very few homes with radio receivers, and most listening was done by amateur radio enthusiasts. Looking for interesting programming, station operators began adding sports events, including boxing matches. In January 1920, Lieutenant Herbert E. Metcalf, in conjunction with the Sacramento Radio Club, used U.S. Army Signal Corps equipment to announce from ringside a series of boxing matches taking place at Mather Field."Wireless Phone Gives Union Fight Returns", Sacramento Union, January 17, 1920, page 8. The following September, the Detroit News employed its "Detroit News Radiophone" station, 8MK, to broadcast summaries telegraphed from nearby Benton Harbor, Michigan, as Jack Dempsey made short work of Billy Minske, knocking out his opponent in the third round."Radio Spreads Fight News Broadcast in 30 Seconds", Detroit News, September 7, 1920, page 1.
With the Ottoman Empire at the feet of Muhammad Ali, the European powers were greatly alarmed and issued the Convention of London of 1840, designed to end the war and deal with the likely contingency of Muhammad Ali's refusal. Their intervention during the Oriental Crisis of 1840 was prompt, launching an invasion by a primarily British force (with some French and Greek elements), they made short work of Muhammad Ali's pride and joy: Egypt's modern Armed forces. However, while his army was being defeated, Muhammad saw the possibility of victory in France's unwillingness to participate (it having some warm feelings to the Khedive, and mainly participating with what was considered a token force to try to block a British expansion in North Africa.) However, in spite of France's dislike of an Egypt dominated by the British, it was equally unwilling to allow the ambitious Governor to upset the balance of power, and thus, by waiting for the hope of a better chance at victory, Muhammad Ali had to suffer a harder defeat. However, though he had lost Syria and his position of great power, the war with the West had not been a complete disaster by any means.
