In 1879 he sold his large collection of zoological specimens to the Natural History Museum (Ireland) for £300. This collection includes specimens of Brisinga endecacnemos, possibly collected during his biological survey of the Hardangerfjord in the 1850s. Theophilus Butler, 1st Baron Newtown-Butler (1669 – 11 March 1724), was an Irish politician and peer. Butler was the son of Francis Butler and Judith Jones. He sat in the Irish House of Commons as the Member of Parliament for Cavan County between 1703 and 1713. In 1711, he was made a member of the Privy Council of Ireland.

The American actor James Newman is her great-nephew.

He succeeded Valentine Browne, 1st Earl of Kenmare. In 1831, he was appointed Lord Lieutenant of Kerry and was made a member of the Privy Council of Ireland in 1834.

Xia became a committeeman of the Hunan Branch of the CPC in 1924. In 1927, Xia was made a member of the newly formed Hunan Provincial Committee along with Mao Zedong. The committee's two main purposes were to decide who should own land and how the Autumn Harvest Uprising should take place, if at all. The committee met in August 1927.

In 1939, Soderland received a LL.B. degree from the University of Washington School of Law, graduating first in his class.

Rees was appointed a Member of the Order of the British Empire in 1964. She was made a Member of the Order of Australia in 1983. Her collection of children's books and manuscripts became the Lu Rees Archives, which is now known as the National Centre for Australian Children's Literature. Posthumously, Rees was awarded the Dromkeen Medal for services to children's literature.

William Henry Maddocks (18 February 1921 - 23 August 1992) was a British trade union leader. Maddocks grew up in Keighley, then in the West Riding of Yorkshire. He joined the National Union of Dyers, Bleachers and Textile Workers (NUDBTW), and became its full-time organiser for the West of England in 1963. He was made a Member of the Order of the British Empire in 1975.

Monica Augustine “Mona” Minahan, also known as Mona Haines, was an Australian entrepreneur. She lived in Alice Springs as a pioneer of the Northern Territory's hotel industry, building the Riverside Hotel, the town's largest hotel to that point. She became a leading figure in the town's business, social and sporting life, and was made a Member of the Order of the British Empire in 1980.

Greene was struck by the huge amount of work Harley undertook each day, leaving him too exhausted for conversation in the evening. Charles Cotin (1604-1681) Charles Cotin or Abbé Cotin (1604 - December 1681) was a French abbé, philosopher and poet. He was made a member of the Académie française on 7 January 1655. Cotin was born and died in Paris. He was a scholar of Latin, Greek, Hebrew, and Syriac, an advisor to Louis XIV, and renowned in his time for his sermons, poetry, and erudition.

She collected over 4,000 traditional songs, stories, and beliefs in a career that spanned several decades, and she published many books and articles on Nova Scotia folk songs and folklore. She received numerous honorary degrees for her work and was made a Member of the Order of Canada in 1976.
From 1936 until his death in 1991, Melaleuca was home to tin miner Deny King who discovered the extinct shrub, Banksia kingii as well as a species of eyebright, Euphrasia kingii and the endangered King's lomatia or King's holly, Lomatia tasmanica. King also built the walkers' accommodation and airstrip and in 1975 was made a Member of the Order of Australia for his services to the community.

Alexander Austin Willis, (30 September 1917 – 4 April 2004) was a Canadian actor and television host. Austin was born in Halifax, Nova Scotia to parents Alexander Samuel and Emma Graham (Pushie) Willis. His older brother, J. Frank Willis, was a radio broadcaster with the Canadian Radio Broadcasting Commission (later the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation). In 2002, Austin was made a Member of the Order of Canada.
