Larvae are so difficult to see due to this colouration that they can remain in the open undetected. When not eating, the caterpillars remain still in a position alongside the midrib of leaves, making them even more difficult to spot. Adult brimstones are leaf-mimics, as they share similarities in shape, colour, and pattern to leaves.

A small group of Englishmen in Madras (now called Chennai) founded the club in 1867. Swingbrow (sometimes written Swing Brow) is a hamlet near to Chatteris , Cambridgeshire lying alongside the Forty Foot Drain built by Vermuyden. A Neolithic (4000 BC to 2201 BC) "perforated object" was discovered on the site, but the current buildings on the site are largely modern. The hamlet formerly had a pub, the Ram Inn, which is now a residence, and a saddlery, now demolished. No official signs denote the hamlet because it is not safe to install these on the banks of the drain.

King's Standing Bowl Barrow or Kingstanding Mound, is a scheduled monument in the Kingstanding area of Birmingham. It comprises the buried and earthwork remains of a bowl barrow from the late Neolithic to the late Bronze Age, lying alongside the Icknield Street Roman road to the South of Sutton Park. It is reputedly the site from where King Charles I reviewed his troops on 18 October 1642, during the English Civil War; from which event both the mound and the area take their name.

USS Guadalcanal lying alongside the captured U-505 Chatelain and Jenks collected survivors while an eight-man party from Pillsbury led by Lt. Albert David came alongside the submarine in a boat and entered through the conning tower. They found the body of Signalman First Class Gottfried Fischer on the deck, the only fatality of the combat, and U-505 was deserted. They secured charts and codebooks, closed scuttling valves, and disarmed demolition charges. They stopped the water coming in and the submarine remained afloat, although it was low in the water and down by the stern, and they also stopped her engines.

At Greenwich Council building conservation department it is locally listed as a building of outstanding architectural significance, under the name of the Wilson Carlile Training College Chapel at 27 Vanbrugh Park, Blackheath, London, by architect E.T. Spashett. It is described as: "An interesting modern building of unusual design featuring a striking gull wing upper roof swept to ground level on one side; grey brick with tall, narrow window lights". Local listings have no reference number. By the time Greenwich Council planning department assessed it in the 1980s, the spire was down and lying alongside the building.

In 1850, financial difficulties led to the historic garden's sale outside of the 122 year ownership by the family to Andrew M. Eastwick (1811–1879), who preserved it as a private park for his estate. Upon Eastwick's 1879 death, the Eastwick family wished to sell the Garden which, being proximate to downtown Philadelphia and lying alongside of the Schulkill River, was at risk for development. A campaign to preserve the garden was organized by Thomas Meehan (1826–1901), in Philadelphia. A national campaign for funds was aided by Charles S. In his conclusion Boeke speculates that the imaginary voyage depicted may help "just a little" to make mankind realize the enormousness of the cosmic powers that the human race has begun to master. Boeke injected some humor into the book. He puts a blue whale into his graphics, incongruously lying alongside the girl and her cat, to give an idea of relative sizes.

Ishulutaq's work In His Memory (2016) depicts scenes from her community in the 1990s after a young boy committed suicide. It is a 9-metre-long drawing split into four images: (1) people leaving a grave; (2) mourners walking towards a church; (3) a figure standing on shore in front of a boat; and (4) a figure lying alongside a seated woman with the subtitle Vigil with Bird. While making the art piece, Ishulutaq encouraged children into the room to make their own drawings with her. About In His Memory, Ishulutaq has said that: "I drew it so that young people would not choose suicide as a solution to their problems".

Satilla carried out patrol duties off Rockland and Bath, Maine, for the rest of World War I, frequently lying to overnight at Cross Island, Winter Harbor, and Cutler Harbor. On 1 September 1917, she served as one of the escorts for the new destroyer USS Manley (Destroyer No. 74) during Manleys sea trials off Bath. While lying alongside the Hodge Boiler Works pier at Boston in mid-1918, Satilla was accidentally rammed by the minesweeper and suffered considerable damage. Although her hull was buckled in on the port side and leaking, she was repaired over the next few months and returned to duty, although not until after the end of World War I.

Her skipper and owner appeared before Douglas Magistrates for verbally abusing the harbour master in 1894, and her skipper was charged, although acquitted, with trawling within the 3-mile limit in 1896. In February 1906 tragedy struck on board when three members of the Rose Anns crew died of suffocation. The Rose Ann was lying alongside The Tongue undergoing repairs and the three men; Robert Hughes, Thomas Watterson, and William Clucas – who were all from Peel – were found dead in their bunks in the forecastle. The investigation concluded that they’d lit the small stove in the cabin for warmth, and during the night the wind had changed with the result that the smoke had been blown back into the cabin.

Lagerstaette beneath Middle BridgeOn the occasion of the 600 year celebration of the unification of Old and New Basel in 1992, the 3 lesser basel Ehrengesellschaften gifted the Canton the sculpture Lagerstätte by the artist Ludwig Stocker. It is located by the first pier of the bridge on the new town side, and depicts the 3 symbols of the Ehrengesellschafts, the Vogel Gryff, the Wild Maa, and the Leu, lying alongside each other on a catafalque. Due to the sculpture being partially submerged in the Rhine, it can sometimes not be seen at all and only reasonably visible at best. The 3 Ehrengesellschafts had originally intended for the sculpture to be placed in Claraplatz or on the river bank, but were denied by the canton.

On 7 December 1941, Major Hayton reported the sinking of the S.S. Chantala in Tobruk Harbour. ‘Appendix B’ is attached to his report: On Sunday, the, No.1 Section was detailed to escort 500 German and Italian prisoners from the POW camp at Tobruk to Alexandria, making the sea voyage by the SS CHANTALA. Loading operations were enlivened by two bombing attacks, first by a formation and later by a solitary German plane, both were beaten off by fire of an anti- aircraft vessel lying alongside the 'Chantala'. Shortly after 1700 hours, the last batch of prisoners having being escorted to their quarters below decks, the ship made ready for sea, a tug moving her slowly from the wharf and turning her into the channel, while all hands moved to ‘action stations’.

According to Dahmer, he "believed [that Sinthasomphone] saw this body," yet did not react to seeing the bloated corpse—likely because of the effects of the sleeping pills he had ingested and the hydrochloric acid Dahmer had injected through his skull. Sinthasomphone soon became unconscious, whereupon Dahmer drank several beers while lying alongside Sinthasomphone before leaving his apartment to drink at a bar, then purchase more alcohol. In the early morning hours of May 27, Dahmer returned toward his apartment to discover Sinthasomphone sitting outside naked on the corner of 25th and State, talking in Lao, with three distressed young women standing near him. Dahmer approached the women and told them that Sinthasomphone (whom he referred to by the alias John Hmung) was his friend, and attempted to lead him to his apartment by the arm. The three women dissuaded Dahmer, explaining they had phoned 9-1-1.

Small farms were often then sold on to other farmers and landowners in this period. The Golden Mile Common, an area of approximately 70 acres lying alongside the A48, was ‘enclosed’ by an Act of Parliament called the ‘Golden Mile Award’ in 1871. The village population in the 19th century thus became formed around the Pwllywrach House and Hilton Farm, a number of small farm units stretching west–east from Ty Maen to the Yew Tree and Chapel Farms, north to Claypit and Highfield Farms and south to Stembridge and Parcau Farms, some labourers’ cottages owned by the Pwllywrach estate and others, the Church and the Parsonage (and the then Vicarage) and three chapels. Some of the land on the northern side of village was owned by Jesus College, Oxford. Agriculture was supported by other trades including the Sycamore Tree Inn (recorded back to at least 1840, the building is post-medieval), a forge and blacksmith, baker, shoemaker, post office and horse breaker.
