Pelvetia canaliculata forms a zone at the top of the shore. Just below this Fucus spiralis, Fucus vesiculosus, Fucus serratus and Laminaria form clear zones, one below the other, along the shore down to low water mark. On sheltered shores Ascophyllum nodosum usually forms a broad and dominating zone along the shore at the mid-littoral. Other brown algae can be found at the low-littoral such as Himanthalia, Laminaria saxatilis and Alaria esculenta.
Porites furcata is found in the Caribbean Sea, the Gulf of Mexico, the Bahamas and southern Florida from low water mark down to depths of about . It has not been found in Bermuda. Its preferred habitat is back reefs but it also occurs in other parts of the reef. In areas where this species is common, the dead, basal parts of the coral are responsible for most of the coral rubble on the reef.

Acanthanectes hystrix is a species of triplefin blenny. It was described by Holleman and Buxton in 1993. So far the species has only been recorded in the waters off Tsitsikamma National Park in the Eastern Cape, South Africa but its distribution is probably more extensive, although it is likely to endemic to South Africa. It is a demersal species which is found below the low water mark on rocky reefs with microalgae at depths of .

On June 20, 1632, Charles I, King of England, made a land grant in North America to Cecil Calvert, 2nd Baron Baltimore which became the Province of Maryland (later the state of Maryland).Brugger, Robert J. The civil parish of Aldingham follows the boundaries of the ancient ecclesiastical parish and is approximately 18 km2. To the south and west it is bound by Barrow Borough and to the north by the parish of Urswick. The conservation park includes all the islands within the group with the exception of all or part of the southernmost island (known as Lighthouse Island) in the South Neptune Islands where land has been reserved for ongoing use by a lighthouse and the waters within 2 nautical miles (4 km) of the mean low water mark of both groups of islands. The conservation park is classified as an IUCN Category Ia protected area.

With the Union Victory and occupation of the south, transport was administered by the US Army and Navy. The year 1864 brought an all-time low water mark on Upper Mississippi mark for all subsequent measurements. Stern wheelers proved more adaptable than side wheelers for barges. Immediately after the war, passenger steamboats become larger, faster and floating palaces began to appear; on the freight barges salt, hay, iron ore, and grain were carried.
Mills had to shut down in periods of low water. In 1820, some proprietors formed a group that led to the formation of the Sunapee Dam Corporation which, through an act of the New Hampshire legislature, obtained sole control of the lake's water level. The Dam Corporation lowered the dam threshold to below the low water mark with flood gates to control the level of the lake. Operation of the dam was uneventful from 1820 to 1858.
Whitstable () is a seaside town on the north coast of Kent in south-east England, 5 miles (8 km) north of Canterbury and 2 miles (3 km) west of Herne Bay. It has a population of about 32,000. Whitstable was famous for its 'Native Oysters' which were collected from beds beyond the low water mark from Roman times until the mid-20th century. This is celebrated at the annual Whitstable Oyster Festival, which takes place during the summer.
Species of Fucus are recorded almost worldwide. They are dominant on the shores of the British Isles, the northeastern coast of North America and California. In the British Isles these larger brown algae occur on sheltered shores in fairly well defined zones along the shore from high-water mark to below low water mark. On the more exposed shores not all of these species can be found and on very exposed shores few, if any, occur.
All day Saturday, March 1, the river rose, until Sunday when it crested at above the low water mark. Wyoming Valley had experienced less extensive flooding a few months earlier, on December 15, 1901, and therefore, residents were more prepared than they might have been. In Plymouth, water covered the streets closest to the river and surrounded or flooded many houses. The railroads were damaged, bridges were swept away and great portions of roadbeds washed out.
G. squamifera is found from Norway to the Azores and in the Mediterranean Sea, and is the most commonly found species of squat lobster on the shores of Northern Europe. It lives between the low water mark and depths of about , under stones and in rock fissures. G. squamifera is chiefly nocturnal, and catches passing prey, such as small fish, with its claws. Species which feed on G. squamifera include the fishes Scorpaena porcus and Serranus atricauda.
Maintenance work to the bridge has been carried out on numerous occasions. In 1962 an investigation of the bridge was undertaken and a specification for major repairs was produced. Work included removal of concrete headstock encasement where necessary, replacement of bolts joining headstocks to piles, replacement of corroded bolts and nuts to pile sections above low water mark and the installation of new wales, braces and bolts. In 1969 further assessment of the Annan River Bridge was undertaken.
Tangalooma resort holds a lease over an area of Moreton Island described as NCL 6/2593 Lot 8 on SL8209 and Lot 25 on SP237385 which is surveyed to the high water mark. The land that forms the beach between high water mark and low water mark abutting the western boundary of Lot 8 on SL8209 has a permit to occupy over it also held by the resort. The resort was first granted this permit to occupy approximately 40 years ago and, under the conditions of the permit, is allowed to fence the northern and southern boundaries. This was permitted as a safety measure to protect users of the beach from vehicles that would have normally used the beach were it open to traffic. It is generally not the government’s policy to extend occupancy rights to low water mark. At the time, the resort’s situation was considered exceptional as mixing large numbers of people using the beach with four wheel drive vehicles travelling the beach was not considered to be in the best interests of public safety.
During the last few years of the Spanish Government in the islands, a bridge was in the project to span across the Pasig from the district of Santa Cruz at Plaza Goiti (now Plaza Lacson) to the south bank of the river connecting to Calle Arroceros (now Padre Burgos St.). The foundations were put down and the piers, two in number, and abutments were built to low-water mark, when the work ceased due to the growing instability in the country.
Pycnogonum stearnsi is found in the north east Pacific Ocean. The range extends from British Columbia southwards to California and also includes Japan. It is most common in California and is found from the mid shore down to low water mark. It hides under rocks or in dead barnacle shells and is often found in close proximity to its prey, the sea anemones Anthopleura sola, Anthopleura xanthogrammica, Anthopleura elegantissima, and Metridium senile; the hydroids, Obelia, and Aglaophenia; and the sea squirt, Clavelina.
On 2 November, water levels in the city reached 5.35m above the average low water mark, rising so quickly that people who went out with dry feet couldn't go home half an hour later. The whole inner city was flooded. In the streets, the water rose from 1m 32 cm to 1m 50 cm, making normal movement impossible and forcing people to move in rafts. Enclosures for safe swimming existed along the Brisbane River and at Sandgate. In 1922, Alderman J. Patterson presented a scheme that included the building of a bund wall at low water mark using dredgings from Wynnum Creek to reclaim land for use as recreational purposes, including a pool. During the Great Depression, the Government of Queensland established the Bureau of Industry to fund public works and provide unemployment relief. The Queensland Government paid the wages of workers and the council provided the materials.

Isle of Man passenger ship, Lady of Mann, passes behind Poolbeg Lighthouse, 2004 At the seaward end of the wall stands the red-painted Poolbeg Lighthouse, standing in its current form since 1820, having replaced an earlier light-tower, which in turn replaced a 1782 light- ship. The Ordnance Survey, and later Ordnance Survey Ireland, used the low water mark of the spring tide on 8 April 1837 at the lighthouse as the standard height datum for Ireland until 1958.
Mycteroperca interstitialis is mainly found over rocky or coral bottoms from the low water mark down to at least , although small and medium-sized fishes are frequently recorded in mangrove-lined lagoons. It is commoner around islands than it is in continental waters. It feeds on fishes. such as silversides, brown chromis (Chromis multilineata) and striped parrotfish (Scarus iseri) The juveniles are aggressive mimics of the clown wrasse (Halichoeres maculipinna), using their resemblance to allow them to approach potential prey.
Narawntapu (formerly known as "Asbestos Range") is a national park in Tasmania, Australia. It lies on Tasmania's north coast, adjoining Bass Strait, between Port Sorell in the west and the mouth of the Tamar River in the east. It lies about 20 km east of Devonport, 60 km north-west of Launceston and 250 km north of Hobart. Narawntapu encompasses islands in the Port Sorell estuary and the Carbuncle, as well as land extending to low water mark, including intertidal mudflats.
M. incrustans is found in the Arctic, round Bear Island and the Faroe Islands, on the coasts of Norway and south along the Atlantic coast to the Mediterranean Sea. In these areas, it is usually found between low-water mark and a depth of on vertical rocks and sites with clean water exposed to strong tidal flows. It also occurs in the northwest Pacific Ocean and Japanese waters. Here it is often found growing on the shells of clams in the genus Chlamys.

The Limestone Coast is a South Australian Government Region which consists of land within the following local government areas located in the south east of the state: the City of Mount Gambier and the District Councils of Grant, Kingston, Robe, Tatiara and Naracoorte Lucindale and the Wattle Range Council, and the extent of "coastal waters" up to three nautical miles seaward of the low water mark between the border with Victoria in the east and the northern boundary of the Kingston District Council in the north-west.
Alexandra Canal is an adapted artificial waterway (formerly known as Sheas Creek) which stretches 4.5 km from its southern point at Cooks River to the north near Huntley Street, Alexandria. Its banks are formed by pitching comprising sloping dry sandstone capped with a sandstone caping. It extends from approximately 0.5 metres below low water mark to approximately 1.5 metres above high water mark. It is spanned by 4 bridges: Shell pipeline bridge, Sydenham to Botany Railway line, Canal Road Bridge and a small footbridge.
Afterwards, John Coode visited the island and inspected the damage on 5 January. The Harbour Commissioners had made a preliminary inspection; they found that the heavy seas had damaged and disturbed the concrete blocks under the low water mark, thus taking away the support of the upper concrete work on the outer sea wall, and causing it to slip off. Up to the mid nineteenth century (c. 1845) smuggling was one of Pennington’s more lucrative industries. Kegs of brandy would be brought by boats to the low water mark at Pennington Marshes. By rope, men would haul the kegs to shore and transport them by donkey and cart to the Common or Upper Pennington. Its understood the old marl pit on Upper Common or in nearby Bower’s Copse were favourite hiding places (Bowers Copse has since disappeared but is shown in old maps of the area).
When the tide is at its lowest the sea recedes and an expanse of sand in excess of wide is uncovered, offering excellent opportunities for walking and littoral discoveries. The rockpools at the base of the cliffs create perfect places for small fish and crabs to hide until the tide turns, and there is an abundance of small molluscs such as periwinkles, limpets and mussels clinging in clusters to the rocks. In the sea beyond low water mark is Gull Rock (or Otterham Rock).

Broad Canal is a short canal in East Cambridge, Massachusetts, previously larger and part of the now-vanished canal system that made Cambridge an active seaport. The canal began in 1806 when Henry Hill, Rufus Davenport, and others laid out a canal system in the land and tidal flats along the Charles River. Broad Canal was dug before 1810, and wide from the low-water mark to Portland Street.
The grant extended Delaware's northern border by The Twelve-Mile Circle in New Castle, Delaware, extending across the Delaware River. If the circle were to be extended fully, it would have included a portion of New Jersey, but this was unacceptable because that land had already been granted. As a result, the 12-Mile-Circle terminated at the mean low water mark on New Jersey's shore. The post-1681 border gave present-day Delaware full ownership of the Delaware River along a stretch of the New Jersey border.
Low Water-Mark Mandatory Access Control (LOMAC) is a Mandatory Access Control model which protects the integrity of system objects and subjects by means of an information flow policy coupled with the subject demotion via floating labels. In LOMAC, all system subjects and objects are assigned integrity labels, made up of one or more hierarchical grades, depending on their types. Together, these label elements permit all labels to be placed in a partial order, with information flow protections and demotion decisions based on a dominance operator describing the order.
The piers, which are primarily built from brick and concrete, are enclosed by a wrought iron caisson up to the low-water mark, above which a brick exterior is used, which cannot be infiltrated by water. The submerged portions are cased with blue vitrified brick. Above the high-water mark, each pair of piers have a connecting masonry section, terminating at the superstructure's base. Due to the high proportion of masonry on the piers, they were extremely heavy, which meant that Messrs Barlow worked to minimise the structure's weight without the piers being weakening.
It rises to about above low water mark and is separated from the much smaller southern Little Fastnet by a wide channel. Fastnet also gives its name to the sea area used by the Shipping Forecasts on BBC Radio 4. The current lighthouse is the second to be built on the rock and is the tallest in Ireland. Fastnet Rock is used as the midpoint of one of the world's classic offshore yachting races, the Fastnet Race, a round trip from Cowes on the Isle of Wight, round the rock and back to Plymouth.
Due to a peculiarity of Virginia's original charter, its boundary with Maryland and Washington, D.C. does not extend past the low-water mark of the south shore of the Potomac River (unlike many boundaries that split a river down the middle). The southern border is defined as the 36° 30′ parallel north, though surveyor error led to deviations of as much as three arcminutes. The state agencies whose primary foci are on the natural environment of Virginia are the Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR), and the Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ).
There are two statutes involved in this case. # Colony Ordinance of 1647 which stated that owners of waterfront property also owned the adjoining land above the low water mark and within 100 rods of the land, with power to erect wharves and other buildings thereon; subject to the reasonable use of other individuals and of the public's ability to navigate. Construction was also subject to the restraints and limitations as the legislature may see fit to impose for the preservation and protection of public and private rights. 61 Mass.
It is built on the "third terrace," a level plateau, above low-water mark, and about the same distance below the summit level proper. On the south the surface slopes rapidly into a deep ravine, dry, except in early spring. On the west the descent is abrupt to the second terrace, a strip one hundred yards wide, on which are the stables, granary, saw-mill, smithy, interpreter's house, tavern, etc. Still further below was the river bottom, of varying width, frequently subject to overflow, moderately well timbered and very fertile.
The wilderness protection area occupies a parcel of land which is bounded to the south by the West Bay Road and the West Melrose Track, to the east by the West End Highway, the north in part by the Playford Highway and the remainder being the coastline down to mean low water mark from the cove known as Harvey's Return in the north-east to West Bay in the west. The coastline boundary, however, does exclude the former lighthouse reserve at Cape Borda which is part of the Flinders Chase National Park.
Preston was located in Texas on its border with the Indian Territory (later the state of Oklahoma) in the Red River Valley on a river bend just downstream from the river's confluence with the Washita River. The area was also known as Washita Bend or Coffee Bend. This area is located a few miles east of the Cross Timbers on the upper Red River above the former Great Raft logjam. A rock bluff overlooked the Red River from the Texas side of the river, above the river's low-water mark.
The former refuge is part of New Castle County, Delaware. As outlined by the Twelve-Mile Circle, a colonial era agreement, Killcohook is one of two places in Delaware that shares a land border with New Jersey, called Finn's Point. Since the border was originally defined as being along the low water mark on the New Jersey shore of the river, the reclaimed land on which the refuge lies falls within Delaware territory. The former wildlife refuge is north of the Fort Mott State Park and south of Pennsville, New Jersey.
The Connecticut River, which starts at New Hampshire's Connecticut Lakes and flows south to Connecticut, defines the western border with Vermont. The rock wall was being built by the federal government, and was intended to support the fill dirt that was being placed there for the construction of Mount Vernon Boulevard (that portion of what is now the George Washington Memorial Parkway from Arlington Memorial Bridge to Mount Vernon). Washington Airport claimed it had title down to the low-water mark. The legal case went all the way to the Supreme Court of the United States, which held two years later in Smoot Sand & Gravel Corp. v. Washington Airport, Inc.
The marine section of the national park protects a representative area of Tasmanian East Coast marine habitat, and has significantly larger individuals and populations of key marine species than surrounding waters. This area is one of the most intensively studied marine protected areas in Australia and is popular with divers. The marine section of the park extends from an unnamed point north-east of Bishop and Clerk, westwards to Cape Boullanger and then southwards as far as Return Point. The marine boundary's definition varies, but it is never more than 1 km from Maria Island's low water mark.
The weedsucker is regarded as an important component of the kelp forest ecosystem which is found below the low water mark because it forms a link in the food web between its prey of small, benthic crustaceans meiofauna and larger predators. The generic name is a compound of Ecklonia which a genus of sea bamboo or kelp in which this species occurs and ichthys which is Greek for "fish". The specific name is another compound with skyllion being Greek for a dogfish, rhinus meaning "snout" and ceps meaning "head", a reference to this species pointed snout.
Territorial sea, as defined by the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea, is a belt of coastal waters extending at most from the baseline (usually the mean low-water mark) of a coastal state. The territorial sea is regarded as the sovereign territory of the state, although foreign ships (military and civilian) are allowed innocent passage through it, or transit passage for straits; this sovereignty also extends to the airspace over and seabed below. Adjustment of these boundaries is called, in international law, maritime delimitation. A state's territorial sea extends up to from its baseline.

This mark is the outline of a human head engraved upon a large rock now but a few feet from shore." The story credited the carving to "pioneers, [who] cut it for a low water mark." On October 17, 1891, it was reported that the boulder was nearly exposed. "If anyone wants to see the Indian rock...ten or twelve feet from the water's brink, he will see a huge rock through the now transparent water, with a backbone formation extending perhaps an inch above the water--now above and now completely under the water, as the slight wind waves break over it.
Hector's clingfish, Gastroscyphus hectoris, is a clingfish of the family Gobiesocidae, the only species in the genus Gastrocyathus. It is found all down the east coast of New Zealand around the low water mark amongst seaweed, on rocky coastlines. Its length is up to SL. This species was described in 1876 by Albert Günther as Crepidogaster hectoris from a holotype collected on the south shore of the Cook Strait. Günther honoured the Scottish-born scientist James Hector (1834-1907) who was the Director of the Geological Survey of New Zealand and who presented type to the British Museum (Natural History).
Wapping was constituted as a parish in 1694 Wapping by James McNeill Whistler Wapping's proximity to the river gave it a strong maritime character for centuries, well into the 20th century. It was inhabited by sailors, mastmakers, boat-builders, blockmakers, instrument-makers, victuallers and representatives of all the other trades that supported the seafarer. Wapping was also the site of 'Execution Dock', where pirates and other water-borne criminals faced execution by hanging from a gibbet constructed close to the low water mark. Their bodies would be left dangling until they had been submerged three times by the tide.
The river forms part of the borders between Maryland and Washington, D.C., on the left descending bank and West Virginia and Virginia on the river's right descending bank. The majority of the lower Potomac River is part of Maryland. Exceptions include a small tidal portion within the District of Columbia, and the border with Virginia being delineated from "point to point" (thus various bays and shoreline indentations lie in Virginia). Except for a small portion of its headwaters in West Virginia, the North Branch Potomac River is considered part of Maryland to the low water mark on the opposite bank.
The Henderson Bridge is a railroad bridge spanning the Ohio River between Henderson, Kentucky and Vanderburgh County, Indiana. The bridge is owned by the CSX Transportation. The original bridge was constructed in 1884 to 1885 by the Louisville and Nashville Railroad at a cost of $2,000,000. The single- tracked bridge was approximately long, and its longest span, at , was reputed to be the longest trestle span in the world at that time. The bridge ran from the northern edge of Main Street in Henderson to the low water mark on the Indiana side, resting on 15 stone piers.
C. fulvipunctata juvenile The preferred habitat is rocky or sandy areas with large amounts of algal debris from the low water mark to in depth; it can occur in both sheltered and exposed sites. It is nocturnal and, like species in the genus Chelidonura, it is known to feed on small polychaete worms and acoelomate flatworms, prey is detected using the sensory mounds on either side of the mouth. The eggs are laid in strings covered in mucus, debris adheres to the mucus strengthening and camouflaging the strings of eggs. In laboratory conditions the eggs hatch in four days.
The AONB boundary on the seaward side is the mean low water mark, corresponding to the limit of the planning authority of its local authority partners. The terrain behind the coast is rolling chalk land and glacial moraine, including the almost 300 foot (90m) high Cromer Ridge. Nature reserves in the area include two National Nature Reserves, Blakeney Point and the Winterton Dunes (one of the country's finest dune systems). The Heritage Coast stretch of the AONB is a Site of Special Scientific Interest, a candidate Special Area of Conservation (SAC) and a Special Protection Area.
Because the Indiana-Kentucky border is defined as the low-water mark on the north bank of the Ohio River as of 1792, and because the river changed course as a result of the New Madrid earthquake of 1812, a small portion of Henderson County (approximately long and wide), lies north of the current course of the river in what would appear to be part of Indiana. Both the Bi-State Vietnam Gold Star Bridges and the Ellis Park Race Course horse racing track are located entirely within Kentucky. The racetrack uses Indiana's 812 area code despite officially being located in Kentucky.

The facility would have included a long off-loading pier that technically would have entered the State of Delaware's waters, because the Delaware River within the Twelve-Mile Circle is all in Delaware, up to the mean low water mark on the New Jersey side.
