During one rehearsal, the musicians performed "Love Bites (So Do I)" by Halestorm. Feeling that the song fit well with Asami's voice, it left an impression on all of the members and they chose Lovebites as the name for their new band. They had their first concert on November 18, 2016 at Tsutaya O-West. Lovebites released their debut EP, The Lovebites EP, in May 2017 via Victor Entertainment.

Their 2019 EP Headless Goddess is composed almost entirely of re-recorded Destrose songs and features guest vocalists, including Ibuki. In September 2015, Narumi and Risa☆Risa formed Disqualia with Ibuki. Lovebites was formed in Tokyo, Japan in 2016 by musicians who were all previously in well-known and established bands. From the very beginning, bassist and leader Miho knew she wanted to have English lyrics, and with vocalist Asami having studied abroad, three of the four songs on the EP are in English. Two of them were composed and arranged in collaboration with Lightbringer keyboardist Mao. Miho recorded her bass parts using an ESP AMAZE- ASM.

Lovebites was formed in Tokyo in 2016 by bassist Miho and drummer Haruna. The two met while members of Destrose, another all-female metal band that disbanded in 2015. In 1995, Gardiner completed the Avalon Film and TV production course, and went on to work with producer Larry Parr at Kahukura Productions. She began producing short films, and also co-produced a 26-part series Lovebites. In 2003, she produced her first feature film, Kombi Nation, and co-produced Two Cars, One Night with Catherine Fitzgerald. The film, directed by Taika Waititi, became the first New Zealand short to be nominated for an Academy Award for Best Short Film.

James Millar (born 21 January 1980) is a multi-award winning Australian actor, singer and writer. He is the author of the musical drama The Hatpin which premiered in Sydney on 27 February 2008, the song cycle LOVEBiTES and multi- award winning semi autobiographical A Little Touch of Chaos. Notably, he established the enterprise Hope - an unprecedented online development programme for playwrights and composers during the Covid epidemic of 2020 which saw ten new works of theatre developed by a team of 132 creatives.

Shocked by the amount of praise they received for their October 2017 first album Awakening from Abyss, Lovebites wanted to quickly put out new music. Battle Against Damnation is their first release since guitarist and keyboardist Miyako changed her stage name from Mi-Ya. While composing for it, Miyako was thinking of Irish guitarist Gary Moore and Russian composer Sergei Rachmaninoff. Several songs that began during the making of this EP were later included on their second album, Clockwork Immortality, released six months later.

Asami revealed that because she was new to heavy metal music, she was a little lost while recording her vocals. Miho said that the EP was more of a demo to get the band signed, but the label liked it so much they had it properly mastered and released. It was mixed by Mikko Karmila and mastered by Mika Jussila at Finnvox Studios in Helsinki, Finland. The Lovebites EP received a limited release of 3,000 copies in Japan on May 24, 2017 by Victor Entertainment.

Victor released a limited edition 2-disc vinyl LP record version of the album, titled in Japanese, on September 4, 2019 with new liner notes by Masanori Ito. Sliptrick Records released the album in North America on the same day as its Japanese release. While JPU Records released it in the United Kingdom and Europe on October 27, 2017. In between dates of their Japanese tour, Lovebites performed their first international shows; two nights at Hyper Japan Christmas and one show at Camden Underworld, both in London at the end of November 2017.

Clockwork Immortality reached number 21 on the Oricon Albums Chart and stayed on the chart for six weeks. It peaked at number 23 on Billboard Japans Hot Albums chart. However, it reached number 21 on Billboard Japans Top Albums Sales chart, which is based only on physical sales. Giving the album a near perfect 9.5/10, Andy Thorley of Maximum Volume Music believes it proves Lovebites are one of the finest metal bands around and suggested that Clockwork Immortality might be the greatest metal album ever recorded by an all-woman group.

Capital Disney played a range of chart music and new acts. Originally, talking story books could be heard often during school hours, but were replaced by non-stop music from 9am until 1pm and then a DJ, James Beckingham, from 1 to 4pm, under the name of "Daytime". They also played artists that didn't get any airplay on mainstream radio such as The Lovebites and album tracks from artists that appear on the playlist. Overnight, Capital Disney played non-stop hits, however previously to this overnight was the home of non-stop chillout music.

Although hailing from Tokyo, Lovebites' music is heavily influenced by the new wave of British heavy metal which led their music to be compared to Iron Maiden and Rage. Miho said she always wanted to play a combination of power metal and "a little bit of old school [heavy metal]." She also noted that their decision to wear all-white clothing, as opposed to the genre's stereotypical black, was made to contrast with their old school sound and have them stand out. Their lyrics are written in English even though the musicians do not speak the language fluently.

In June, they performed at the Download Festival in both Donington, UK and Madrid, Spain and at the Graspop Metal Meeting in Dessel, Belgium. Their set at Donington was cited by its organizers and Metal Hammer as one of the festival's highlight performances, including when Asami joined Halestorm on stage to sing her band's namesake song, which she had also done earlier at Download Festival Japan on March 21. On July 10, Lovebites released their first standalone concert video and live album, Daughters of the Dawn - Live in Tokyo, recorded on January 27, 2019 at Mynavi Blitz Akasaka. They were a support act on DragonForce's UK tour throughout the first half of November, and opened for Halestorm in Tokyo on December 2.

Lovebites started recording Clockwork Immortality before the June 6, 2018 release of their second EP, Battle Against Damnation. Several of the songs began during the making of the EP. The band created a list of what "qualities" they wanted to include on the album before Miho, Miyako, and Asami started writing in their own teams with their frequent collaborator, Light Bringer keyboardist Mao. Miyako recorded all of her guitar parts at her home studio using a Dean USA Icon guitar before re-amping, using a Peavey 6505 for the lead and solos and a Marshall for backing. Bassist and bandleader Miho described Clockwork Immortality as featuring "the strongest, most powerful elements" of Battle Against Damnation, with the "speedy and melodic elements" of their first album, Awakening from Abyss.
