When the Noah that Betty rescued was ultimately exposed as Maximus' henchman, the Chameleon, Paloma ultimately rescues the real Noah from Maximus by disguising herself as the Chameleon. However, this causes Maximus' rage to boil over, and he threatens to destroy Earth while chasing Betty's ship. Paloma and Juanita make the decision to leave Betty and her crew, and take control Betty's starcruiser and lead Maximus on a wild goose chase as Betty and her crew escapes on an escape pod. It is implied that she later manages to return to Earth, as Betty is seen piloting the starcruiser in later episodes, though she does not play a further role in the series, but is seen later in the third season in the background crowd of a school dance in "Love Bites".

"Lipstick", the B-side to "Promises," shared the same ascending progression of notes in its chorus as Magazine's first single, "Shot By Both Sides," also released in 1978. Their original career produced three LPs: Another Music in a Different Kitchen, Love Bites, and A Different Kind of Tension, each supported by extensive touring in Europe and the U.S.A. Their trademark sound was a marriage of catchy pop melodies with punk guitar energy, backed by an unusually tight and skilled rhythm section. They advanced drastically in musical and lyrical sophistication: by the end they were quoting USA writer William S. Burroughs ("A Different Kind of Tension"), declaiming their catechism in the anthem "I Believe", and tuning in to a fantasy radio station on which their songs could be heard ("Radio Nine"). In 1980, Liberty Records signed the band, and released three singles.
The setlist varied throughout the tour. The European setlist consisted of: "The Hellion" (Taped intro) # "Electric Eye" # "Riding on the Wind" # "Grinder" # "Metal Gods" # "Bloodstone" # "Breaking the Law" # "Sinner" # "Desert Plains" # "The Ripper" # "Heavy Duty" (Added on 2 February 1984) # "Defenders Of The Faith" (Added on 2 February 1984) # "Freewheel Burning" # "Screaming For Vengeance" (Replaced by "Some Heads Are Gonna Roll" after 28 January 1984) # "You've Got Another Thing Comin'" # "Victim of Changes" # "Living After Midnight" # "The Green Manalishi (With the Two Prong Crown)" (Fleetwood Mac cover) # "Hell Bent for Leather" The U.S. setlist consisted of: # "Love Bites" # "Jawbreaker" # "Grinder" # "Metal Gods" # "Breaking the Law" # "Sinner" # "Desert Plains" # "Some Heads Are Gonna Roll" # "The Sentinel" # "Rock Hard, Ride Free" # "Night Comes Down" # "Electric Eye" # "Heavy Duty" # "Defenders of the Faith" # "Freewheel Burning" # "Victim of Changes" # "The Green Manalishi (With the Two Prong Crown)" (Fleetwood Mac cover) # "Living After Midnight" # "Hell Bent for Leather" # "You've Got Another Thing Comin'" "Heading Out to the Highway" was also played on 9 June.

The biggest storyline involving Barry and Natalie in 1999 was their joint double wedding with the characters Ian Beale and Melanie Healy (Adam Woodyatt and Tamzin Outhwaite) – the lead up to which included a hen/stag night celebration episode, which was filmed on-location in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. The episode evoked criticism by the Broadcasting Standards Commission for its inclusion of “almost relentless drunken and promiscuous behaviour, sexual innuendo and drug-taking, before the watershed”, which included Natalie having to acquire three love bites from strangers. The BBC defended the episode, claiming that its content would have “come as no surprise to viewers” and adding that the depiction of this behaviour conformed to an EastEnders tradition – that questionable conduct "only leads to further trouble…One character's quest for drugs led to embarrassment and nausea and a drinking binge led to the calling off of [Barry and Natalie’s] wedding while the prospects for another became bleaker." Natalie and Barry's screen wedding was featured as part of the Millennium Eve episodes, which drew in 20.89 million viewers – the biggest soap audience since the character Tiffany Mitchell (Martine McCutcheon) was killed off in EastEnders precisely one year earlier (New Year's Eve 1998).
