Fort Colcura was a small fort that was the first Spanish settlement that existed in the commune of Lota, Chile. It was on a small height on the edge of the Bay of Arauco, a little more than two kilometers to the southeast of the modern city of Lota. From its position it dominated the north slope of cerro Marihueñu and the valley of Colcura in whose extreme west is the mouth of the riachuelo Colcura that empties into the cove of Colcura. This place was established as a small fort at the start of the conquest, and was several times destroyed by the Moluches and repaired.

He served as lieutenant, captain of infantry and of cavalry in Lota and San Carlos de Austria; lieutenant general of cavalry and Sargento Mayor of the Captaincy General of Chile.

Cleveland railway station was a former railway station on Queensland Rail suburban network in Brisbane, the state capital of Queensland, Australia. It was the second terminus of the Cleveland railway line and the second of three stations to be known as "Cleveland". It opened in 1897 with the opening of the extension beyond the original Cleveland station. The station closed in 1960 with the closure of the railway beyond Lota.

The original land belonged to John and William Galway and was leased to Robert and George Rogers, detailed in leases dated 1694 and 1720. The central structure is a 2-storey Georgian house built by the Rogers family of Lota in 1798 and extended in the Victorian 1880s. It is on a hill with views overlooking the River Lee. The house was let to the Honourable C.L. Bernard in 1837 and Frederick Hamilton nearer the middle of the 19th century.

In the early 1970s, the local PCYC took over the running of all the sports other than soccer which remained with the sports club and was renamed the Wondall United Soccer Club until 1973. Bayside United FC built upon these beginnings after its establishment in 1974, expanding the club so that it was able to join the mainstream Brisbane soccer competitions. For its first ten years, Bayside United played at Cox Park in Richard Street, Lota. The club moved to its current home at Don Randall Oval, Lota in 1984. Bayside United’s first recorded season at senior level was in 1977 when the club finished second and achieved promotion from Brisbane’s Division Six. The club rose through the divisions to Division Two in 1983, but was relegated after a single season. By 1989, the club was back in Division Six, but won its first premiership the following season, achieving 16 wins from 20 matches. Puerto Octay was the center of a north–south elliptical area in the Central Valley, where the intensity was at the highest outside the Valdivia Basin. East of Puerto Octay, in a hotel in Todos los Santos Lake, stacked plates were reported to have remained in place. Excepting poor building sites, the zone of Mercalli scales intensities of VII or more all lay west of the Andes in a strip running from Lota (37° S) southwards.

On June 30, 1983 D. Antofagasta returned to the top level once after defeating Lota Schwager 9–0. The team was coached by Manuel Rodríguez.. However the following year the team again descended to the second level. D. The commonest shape in this ware is the typical Indian lota or a small water vessel with a globular body and high neck, sometimes with an outcurve rim. Jars with a flaring mouth and a variety of bowls and dishes are also common. At around 12:20 a dense fog set in the Bay of Arauco forcing the ship to reduce her speed. At 12:35 a whistle was heard on the starboard side, prompting the captain to order engines full stop. At 12:42 a steamer appeared in sight crossing from the starboard to port side. The engines were put in full speed astern but about 90 seconds later the ships collided. The ship, Victoria collided with, was 2,213 GRT Chilean steamer , on a passage from Tocopilla for Lota with a cargo of copper ore.

Born in Asunción, Paraguay, Limenza aged 20 joined third-tier team Presidente Hayes in 2003, where he played two seasons. In 2005, he moved to Chile's Primera B (second level) side Lota Schwager thanks the management of his friend Félix González, who invite him to play with the club. One year later he was a key player in the club's promotion to Primera División, after saving two shoots in the penalties against Rangers at the promotion playoffs final. In January 2007 he signed for Primera División club Unión Española.

By 1855, Copiapó was already in decline. At the end of the silver rush, rich miners had diversified their assets into banking, agriculture, trade and commerce all over Chile. Example of this is silver mining magnate Matías Cousiño who initiated coal mining operations in Lota in 1852 rapidly transforming the town, from being a sparsely populated frontier zone in the mid-19th century, into a large industrial hub. In 1870, 1570 miners worked in the Chañarcillo mines; however the mines were exhausted by 1874 and mining ended in 1888 after the mines became flooded.

He visited the shell middens on Stradbroke Island, noting the ancient campgrounds and his knowledge of these informed anthropologists and other researchers who have studied these ancient sites. He and his brother returned to live at North Stradbroke Island for a period before he moved back to the mainland to reside at Lota from the mid-1960s until his death in 1975. He did not marry or have children and was survived by his large extended family, including nephew Robert Anderson, a Quandamooka Elder. Many key communist figures decided to flee the country, including poet Pablo Neruda, who had decried GGV on the Senate Floor for "selling out to the United States." The communists that remained were arrested, but were not subjected to torture or execution. A pro- communist miners' strike in Lota was brutally suppressed. Demonstrations against what the communists called la ley maldita ("the damned law") led to the declaration of martial law, but were successfully repressed. In 1948, González Videla also learned of a plot by some members of the Armed Forces to lead a coup against him and install Carlos Ibáñez as president.

Brass and Bell Metal products of Kamrup are famous for their beauty and strength of form and utility. Brass is an important cottage industry, with highest concentration in Hajo, while Sarthebari is well known for its bell metal craft. The principal items of brass are the kalah (water pot), sarai (a platter or tray mounted on a base), kahi (dish), bati (bowl), lota (water pot with a long neck) and tal (cymbals). Gold, silver and copper too have formed part of traditional metalcraft in Kamrup, and the State Museum in Guwahati has a rich collection of items made of these metals.

The Task Force on School Sports (TFSS) headed by Mr. Feliciano Toledo asked Richard Gialogo and Jon Lota to conduct national, regional and provincial seminar-workshops all over the Philippines under the auspices of the Philippine government. This resulted to the inclusion of Arnis in the Palarong Pambansa (National Games) in 2006. The efforts of the two and Senator Miguel Zubiri resulted in Arnis being declared as the National Martial Art and Sport of the Philippines by virtue of Republic Act 9850 which was signed into law in 2009. Knowledge of the Filipino fighting skills is mandatory in the Philippine military and police.

It is located between Catete and Botafogo districts on the edge of Guanabara Bay. The beachfront area is dominated by the Brigadier Eduardo Gomes Park, also known as Aterro do Flamengo, built by Lota de Macedo Soares on nearly 300 acres (1.2 km²) of land reclaimed from the bay and completed in 1965. The film was a major and critical success at the time, and is considered to be one of Chhaya's best performances. In 1972, she starred with Amitabh Bachchan in Raaste Kaa Patthar, where she was part of the main cast, and received praise for her dancing in the song "Main Sharaab Bechti Hoon". During the Chincha Islands War, the Paquete del Maule served as an auxiliary ship to the Chilean fleet and she was not armed. On March 6, 1866, while en route from Lota to Montevideo with a crew of 126 men destined to complete the crews of the ironclads Huáscar and Independencia, she was captured by the Spanish frigates Blanca and Numancia at the Gulf of Arauco. On 10 May 1866, after the Battle of Callao, the Paquete del Maule was burned and scuttled by the Spanish near the San Lorenzo island since they couldn't take her with them on their retreat towards the Philippines.

Demand from copper smelters proved in 1840s crucial to stabilize the coal business. Coal mining operations were chiefly owned by Chilean businessmen contrasting with the heavy foreign involvement seen in silver mining and later also in salpeter and copper mining. Silver mining and coal mining were somewhat linked by Matías Cousiño a silver mining magnate who expanded into the coal business. Cousiño begun mining operations in Lota in 1852 a move that rapidly transformed the town, from being a sparsely populated frontier zone in the mid-19th century, into a large industrial hub that attracted immigrants from all over Chile well into the 20th century.

Burke was a fashion model and acted on radio in Chicago before winning a talent contest sponsored by Paramount Pictures to play Lota the Panther Woman in Island of Lost Souls (1932), the first screen version of H.G. Wells's novel The Island of Dr. Moreau. The contest, announced in July 1932, reportedly had 60,000 applicants from around the country. Burke was announced as the winner on September 29. This success led to more than a score of screen appearances over the following six years, most notably as the leading lady in The Lives of a Bengal Lancer (1935) opposite Gary Cooper, and The Last Outpost with Cary Grant that same year.

Chile many farmers decided to not cultivate in early summer due to this and to the known fact there was almost no snow in Andes. Later in summer the rivers did grow due to glacier ablation, causing many farmers to repent albeit it was too late to cultivate. Atkot is famous in local legends as having been founded by the celebrated Lakho Phulani, who fell fighting against Solanki king Mulraj of Anhilwad Patan within the lands of Atkot. Lakho's paliyo or funeral monument stands here to this day. Lakho was the son of Raja Phul of Kerakot in Vagad states and is said to have been born when his father was absent warring against Mulraj. On the day that Lakho was born Atkot his father is said to have made a foray as far as Patan and to have plundered a few shops, whence the couplet:The Gujarati runs: Je Di Lakho Janamiya Dharpat Kandhara; Te Di Pirana Patanja Kota Lota Kara.

It was described by the White's son-in-law, Graham Douglas Mylne, as a grand, comfortable house with large rooms, fresh breezes, and views over Moreton Bay. The entrance to Lota House faced south, but the principal rooms overlooked the bay to the east. A dairy was located on the southwest corner of the house, truncating the surrounding ground floor verandahs. The ground floor comprised a large entrance hall with drawing and dining rooms to the right, an office and staircase leading to the upper level on the right, a small sitting room at the end of the hall, next to which was a bootroom, and a pantry beneath the staircase, from which access to a cellar was gained.

An early, undated photograph shows a detached, timber-framed bell tower with double cross-bracing and a pyramid-shaped shingled roof, to the east of the chancel. By the late 1880s Bulimba had become more densely settled and Wynnum-Lota-Manly boomed following the opening of the Cleveland railway line (via Wynnum) in November 1889. By the mid-1890s the Anglican parish of Tingalpa, still approximately 50 square miles, had a population of well over 6,000. St Peter's Anglican Church was erected at Wynnum in 1898. By 1899 the Bulimba church held 260 seats; St Peter's held 120; and Christ Church, with its 50 seats, was clearly no longer the focus of Tingalpa parish.

The expanded Brisbane City Council provided an extensive electric tram service to most developed areas of the city, and the replacement bus service from 1968 continued to supplement the suburban rail services. The decision to electrify the suburban network, which was implemented between 1979–88, resulted in major improvements to passenger comfort (first air- conditioned suburban trains in Australia), frequency (30 minute ‘clock face’ timetables introduced) and reduced transit times. Patronage increased by 60-65% on most lines in the first full year after electrification. The former rural branch line to Cleveland (opened 1888, closed beyond Lota in 1960) was rebuilt on the original alignment to contemporary standards as a suburban line, opening in sections between 1982-87.

Deportes Antofagasta plays its home matches at the Estadio Regional de Antofagasta, owned by the Municipality of Antofagasta. The stadium was planned to be a reserve stadium for the FIFA World Cup 1962, and was finally inaugurated on October 8, 1964, on the grounds of the former Riding Club of Antofagasta. The first professional football match was played there in 1966, and Deportes Antofagasta has played there since that time. In 2007 the stadium was closed for repairs, and home games had to be played elsewhere; The Estadio Municipal de La Pintana in Santiago against Deportes Puerto Montt in Estadio Municipal de Calama against Huachipato and Estadio Carlos Dittborn, Arica against Lota Schwager, and until 2013 at the Estadio Parque Juan López.

The breaking point for Senator Neruda was the violent repression of a Communist-led miners' strike in Lota in October 1947, when striking workers were herded into island military prisons and a concentration camp in the town of Pisagua. Neruda's criticism of González Videla culminated in a dramatic speech in the Chilean senate on 6 January 1948, which became known as "Yo acuso" ("I accuse"), in the course of which he read out the names of the miners and their families who were imprisoned at the concentration camp.Feinstein (2005) p. 199 In 1959 Neruda was present as Fidel Castro was honored at a welcoming ceremony offered by the Central University of Venezuela where he spoke to a massive gathering of students and read his Canto a Bolivar.

In the courtyard were two deep underground tanks, each covered with a large, circular cut stone, and from these rain water was pumped to the house, kitchen, stables and garden. Further to the west, on the slope behind the stables, were yards, cow bales, fowl houses and pig styes, as well as a hut accommodating South Sea Islanders working on the property. Cows and horses grazed in the paddocks surrounding the house, and maize, sorghum and hay were grown on the flats of Lota Creek as supplementary fodder. Like most of the farmers in the district, White probably grew sugar cane on the property. The estate ran down to the bay, where by the 1910s there was a boat-shed and jetty.

The twin goddesses themselves seem to have merged into one another assuming the identity of the folk deity Beeb Garabh Maj, whose very name- obviously a distortion - points to such a possibility. Beeb Garabh Maj is represented by a lota or a water pot which is placed in the centre of the place where the Puja is to be performed, a cotton thread (Pann) being tied to its neck and handful of dramun or runner grass kept inside it, pointing again to its agricultural origin. A story is told at the Pann Puja which is quite similar to the Satyanaryana Katha, showing some sort of confusion between two different Pujas. Preparation of the roths and their distribution for ushering in prosperity and auspiciousness has, however, become an important part of Kashmiri Pandit religious life.

Graham arrived in Australia in 1859 to manage the family grazing property Eatonswill, near Grafton, New South Wales, and in 1860 married Helena White daughter of William and Jane White of Lota in Manly, Queensland. In 1864, he moved to Roma, Queensland, in the Maranoa district, where he leased the grazing property Amby Downs in partnership with Sir Robert Herbert, the Premier of Queensland, and Sir John Bramston, the Attorney-General of Queensland. He returned to Eatonswill in 1869 with his wife Helena and six children and lived there until his untimely death in 1876, aged 42. Graham was a member of the Queensland Legislative Assembly, Member for Maranoa, and of the Queensland and Australian Clubs, and also a frequent guest of the governor Sir George Bowen and his wife Diamantina at Government House, Brisbane, they being of similar age and close friends.

The line beyond Lota was rebuilt to contemporary standards (50 kg/m rail, maximum 1 in 50 (2%) grades and minimum 430 m radius curves) and reopened on the original alignment to Thorneside in 1982 and the line was electrified in 1983. The line was extended to the third Cleveland station (formerly Raby Bay) in 1987, reputedly to facilitate potential extension of the line to Redland Bay in the future, being electrified upon opening. The travel time of 46 minutes compares to the steam-era time of 82–86 minutes. A third line was laid between Park Road and Lindum railway station in the 1990s as part of the Fisherman Islands line to provide a dedicated freight track to the Port of Brisbane, being dual gauge to connect to the Acacia Ridge freight Terminal and the Australian standard gauge rail network.

The Tingalpa site, one acre of high ground fronting the road to Lytton (now Wynnum Road) about beyond Kangaroo Point, was transferred early in 1868 from Joseph Berry to the Church Trustees (Bishop Edward Wyndham Tufnell and Tingalpa farmers Charles Coxen, John Mackenzie Shaw, Richard Warren Weedon and William Roach Wood). Importantly, the site was central to the small but scattered farming community of the Bulimba-Tingalpa district (which in 1868 encompassed Wynnum, Manly and Lota as well). The ground was cleared by voluntary labour and funds were raised through local and British subscription. The church was free of debt almost immediately it was completed, and consequently was among the earliest Anglican churches in the Brisbane district to be consecrated, pre-dating All Saints on Wickham Terrace, St Mary's at Kangaroo Point, and possibly St Thomas' at South Brisbane (erected 1855), but post-dating the first St John's Church, consecrated in 1854. Guests at the Christ Church consecration ceremony of 27 October 1868, to which 400 persons were invited, included the newly appointed Governor of Queensland, Colonel Samuel Blackall; the President of the Legislative Council, Sir Maurice O'Connell; the Chief Justice of Queensland, James Cockle; and the Mayor of Brisbane, Alderman John Hardgrave.
