The regiment also began training with mortars and anti-tank weapons. In August 1941, a Bren gun carrier platoon was formed under Captain R. R. C. Carter and trained with the British 2nd Loyals Regiment. In March 1941, the Colonial Governor of the Straits Settlements, authorised the increase of the regiment's strength to two battalions with the creation of The 2nd Battalion in 1941.
On 15 June 1868, the Grand Duchy of Baden State Railway (Großherzoglich Badische Staatseisenbahnen) opened the section of the Black Forest Railway between Engen and Donaueschingen. This included Immendingen station. Two years later on 26 July 1870, the Royal Württemberg State Railways (Königlich Württembergischen Staats-Eisenbahnen) inaugurated the 9.7 km-long route between Tuttlingen and Immendingen, the last piece of the Upper Neckar Railway, providing a continuous connection from Immendingen via Tübingen to Stuttgart. Immendingen was the stop for the change of operational responsibility between Baden and Württemberg.
The side drum was increasingly decorated throughout the 19th century, until it bore the fully embellished regimental colours of the battalion, including its battle honours. As such a regiment's drums are often afforded respect. Historically all members of a Corps of Drums would be able to beat the various 'calls' on the drum, but in order to provide melody to accompany long route marches when not in combat, some would also play a fife, replaced in the modern British Army by the five key flute. A wide variety of flutes and pitches are used.
The Wirral Railway had obtained powers for a "Dee Extension" in 1883, but this long route had been unaffordable. In 1889 the powers for construction were transferred to the Manchester, Sheffield and Lincolnshire Railway and the Wrexham, Mold and Connah's Quay Railway jointly. The line became known as the North Wales and Liverpool Railway and the transfer was authorised by Act of 12 May 1889. The Wirral Railway's interest in the line was at an end, but the MS&LR; and the WM&CQR; acquired running powers to Seacombe, which they later exercised.
The Black Mountain in Cave CreekRuins along the Stoneman Mountain Trail. Established in 1865, Fort McDowell was continuously short on supplies and before the Stoneman Road was established, the shortages were especially acute as the connection between the forts required a long route that swung south through Phoenix and north to Prescott. With the establishment of the Stoneman Road, a day’s ride was eliminated from the trip. The new route was named after forty-eight-year-old Colonel George Stoneman, a Civil War veteran and career Army man by way of West Point.
Salmo is a village municipality in the West Kootenay region of southeastern British Columbia, Canada. It is located in the Salmo River Valley, surrounded by the Selkirk Mountain range. Situated at the junction of the Crowsnest Highway and Highway 6, Salmo is about a 30 minute drive from the communities of Castlegar, Nelson, and Trail. Salmo is the western terminus of the Salmo- Creston highway constructed in the late 1950s (now Highway 3) as a shortcut to avoid the long route north to Nelson and crossing Kootenay Lake by ferry between Balfour and Kootenay Bay.
RDR near Methven, looking South Water is diverted into the RDR canal from the Rangitata River at Klondyke, near the Rangitata Gorge. From Klondyke, the 67km long route of the RDR follows along the foothills above the Canterbury Plains and passes under several major rivers on the way to the end point at Highbank, above the Rakaia River. The main water intake for the RDR is from the Rangitata River, but there is also an intake from the South Ashburton River at Mt Somers. The average fall of the race is .
As a consequence the Deutsche Bahn began a process in late 2002, in accordance with § 11 of the General Railway Law (AEG) for the release and closure of railway infrastructure on the remaining Forchheim–Hemhofen section. The efforts of the Deutsche Regionaleisenbahn, who had rented the line for a time, were fruitless. On 1 April 2005 the section of line was closed. On 4 September 2007 the Federal Railway Office finally started the process for the final release of the entire 22 kilometre long route, which was formally approved on 21 February 2008\.
From height Keilberg the route was moved with the Kauppenbrücke for reasons of noise protection from Waldaschaff away to the south. The 30 km long middle subsection, for which the Autobahndirektion Nordbayern in 2016 stated construction costs of 287 million euros, lies between the Kauppenbrücke and the Mainbrücke Bettingen. The 7.7 km long route to the junction Rohrbrunn was expanded since April 2013 and released on 17 November 2015 for traffic. In the direction of Würzburg, an additional fourth lane was built on the slope of the Spessart climb.
The approximately five- kilometer-long route between the Rohrbrunn junction and the Haseltalbrücke (including the expansion of the Spessart Süd refueling facility) has been under construction since 2016. The construction period should be around four years and be completed in 2018. Here, the connection point is moved out of the T + R Spessart. Between 2007 and May 2012, the replacement new construction of the Haseltal bridge was erected and, in addition, two 1.2 km-long sections of the adjacent planning sections were extended on both sides of the bridge.
For Norway an investigation has been made about future high-speed railways, using 250 km/h as cruise speed. The most promising link would be a new Oslo- Trondheim railway, which is suggested to be a single track along a 370 km-long route. It is suggested to have about 15 km-long passing loops, more like 15 km double track, located about 80 km apart. This would enable passing at 160 km/h, but there could be only one train per hour per direction on the rail line.
Ferry service was usually required to cross the Yolo Bypass basin during seasonal flooding; the first county seat of Yolo County was the town of Fremont, built near the ferry crossing near the confluence of the Sacramento and Feather Rivers. Fremont was wiped out during the floods of 1851. As an alternative, settlers established the Yolo Plankroad, which was a long route that ended close to present-day Woodland, California. Before a causeway was built, wheeled vehicles between Davis and Sacramento were forced to detour south through Tracy and Stockton during seasonal flooding.
Routes to the new settlement were also scouted, including the established path of the Old Spanish Trail and a long route around the southern rim of the Grand Canyon. The expedition decided, however, to use a more direct (but largely unknown) route that would be hundreds of miles shorter. They would travel through the relatively benign terrain near the Escalante River, find a way to cross the Colorado River, and then negotiate the mesas and canyons on the other side. There are lot of buses from Sathyamangalam(15 km), Punjai Puliampatti, Bhavanisagar, Thalavadi and Chamarajanagar (60 km) to reach Bannari. The buses from Coimbatore, Tiruppur and Erode to Mysore, Chamarajanagar and Kollegal on NH 209 also passes through Bannari. One can also get the buses from Bhavanisagar and reach the temple via Kothamangalam, but this is a long route to reach Bannari. And on every Sunday, Monday, Friday and new moon days there are special buses to the temple from Sathyamangalam, Punjai Puliampatti, Erode, Tiruppur, Gobichettipalayam and Coimbatore.
China also has the world's first commercial high-speed maglev (magnetic levitation) service, Shanghai Maglev Train (the first maglev service opened at Birmingham International Airport, United Kingdom, in 1984; however, it was not high- speed). The Chinese project, a Sino-German joint venture, was a 38-km-long route between downtown Shanghai and the Pudong airport that opened in 2003. The project cost US$1.2 billion.Probably the world's fastest train Low speed commuter maglevs using indigenous technology have opened in Changsha (Changsha Maglev) and Beijing (Line S1, Beijing Subway).
On June 15, 2008, the U4 was extended over existing tracks of the depot East to the station Schäfflestraße, where there was connection to the U7. The operation on the 2 km long route was initially intended only for a half-year trial and cost about 400,000 euros. Since December 14, 2008, every second to third journey on the U4 line to Enkheim has been extended to the final stop on the C line, so that parallel operation with the U7 takes place on the Schäfflestraße-Enkheim section.
The use of the Stadtbahn for mainline trains meant that many connections required a devious route and in addition the limit of its capacity was expected to be reached soon. Among the various options discussed and then adopted was the so-called mushroom concept (German: Pilzkonzept), which provided for a partially underground north-south route, which crossed the Stadtbahn at the Hauptbahnhof. In April 1992, the mushroom concept was added to the Federal Transport Infrastructure Plan. Its core would be a new eight kilometre-long route through the city with a 3.5 km long tunnel.
Rio Turbio Freight Train The mine has its own industrial rail line for coal transport to the Punta Loyola port, a long route. It is the southernmost narrow gauge (750 mm) railway still in operation in the world. It was inaugurated in 1951, both for passengers and cargo use and, after almost being closed in the 1990s, it is now operated only for cargo transport. In the last years, refurbished locomotives and switchers of soviet and Romanian origin were purchased, as well as freight cars built by EMEPA.
Highway 99 at the Marine Drive interchange, just north of the Lions Gate Bridge The Lions' Gate Bridge carries Highway 99 between Vancouver and North Vancouver. The long route through Vancouver's city streets starts off going north on Oak Street to the intersection with West 70th Avenue. Highway 99 then goes west on West 70th Avenue, and then north along Granville Street for , 41st Avenue is used as an alternate signed connection between Granville and Oak Streets. It crosses over False Creek (via the Granville Street Bridge) into the downtown core.
Its highest altitude is the Pennask Summit, above sea level. Highway 97C travels on this freeway 82 km (51 mi) northwest to Aspen Grove, where it converges with Highway 5A. This stretch is a four-lane rural arterial highway. Highways 97C and 5A share the long route between Aspen Grove and the Coquihalla Highway at Meritt, where Highway 5A continues northeast and Highway 8 begins. Highways 97C and 8 travel along Nicola Avenue through Merritt and share a concurrency to Lower Nicola, where Highway 8 continues west to Spences Bridge and Highway 97C diverges north.
Britain had planned to maintain and expand its supply of cheap high-quality oil from Nigeria. Therefore it placed a high priority on maintenance of oil extraction and refining operations. The war broke out just a week before the Six Day War in the Middle East led to the Suez Canal being blocked, forcing oil tankers from the Middle East to use the long route around the Cape of Good Hope, thereby increasing the cost of Middle Eastern oil.Stremlau The International Politics of the Nigerian Civil War, 1967-1970 (2015) p.
The first route on the east side of the mountain was climbed in July 1974, by author- mountaineer David Roberts, photographer-mountaineer Galen Rowell, and Ed Ward. Their 5,100 foot (1,554 m) route climbed a pillar on the southeast face; most of their ascent was accomplished over four days. Perhaps the most famous other route on the mountain is the "Wine Bottle Route" on the right side of the east face, climbed in 1988 by Thomas Bonapace and Andreas Orgler. This is an exceptionally technical and long route, 5250 feet (1600 m) high.
The Red Main Trail (Rotmainweg), which was laid out by Fichtelgebirge Club, begins near the source. This main footpath is marked by a red M on a white background throughout its length. Its 60 kilometre long route is as follows: Sourche of the Red Main-Creußen-Eimersmühle-Schlehenberg-Eremitage-Bayreuth-Martinsreuth- Altenplos-Grüngraben-Jöslein-Langenstadt-Affalterhof Katschenreuth- Steinenhausen Castle near Kulmbach (confluence with the White Main). The Main- Mies Trail (Main-Mies-Weg), established by the Upper Palatinate Forest Club (Oberpfälzer-Wald-Verein) also begins near the source.
The entirety of the -long Route 132-A was to be constructed underground through tunneling and cut-and-cover. Station mezzanines; the line north of 92nd Street, where the rock profile drops away sharply; and the area around 48th Street, where there is a crevice in the rock profile, would be constructed using cut-and-cover. The temporary decking of Second Avenue was required for this construction to take place and to allow for traffic aboveground to proceed. The remaining portions of the line were to be built through tunneling.
Locomotives were stabled for the night in the two-road locomotive shed by the exit towards Georgensgmünd. Spalt station in 2007 On 28 September 1969 passenger services on the 6.9 kilometre long route were withdrawn by the Deutsche Bundesbahn even though the line had been fully renovated in 1963. Goods traffic continued to run until 28 May 1995. The line was also worked occasionally by specials, especially from the DB-operated construction rubble dump, in which inter alia old ballast and the debris from dismantled platforms was dumped.
The Sanremo–Taggia and Sanremo–Ventimiglia routes were designated as lines T and V, respectively. A third route, serving the urban area of Sanremo only and using the overhead wires already in place for lines T and V, began operation in 1958, designated line U. Route V is about 18 km long, route T 10 km (originally) and route U 5.75 km. On 20 December 2001, a branch was opened on line T to serve the then- new Taggia-Arma railway station.Trolleybus Magazine No. 242 (March–April 2002), p. 43.
1899 map showing the line to Strathpeffer from Fodderty Junction, and Achterneed stationThe passenger train service to Strathpeffer was designed to connect at Dingwall with trains between Inverness and the far north, and Kyle of Lochalsh. In December 1895, there were seven passenger trains each way over the five-mile long route from Dingwall. The journey time was ten minutes, with no intermediate stops. The first train reached Strathpeffer at 7.50 a.m. and the last at 5.42 p.m. The first departure for Dingwall was at 8.40 a.m. and the last at 8.10 p.m.Bradshaw, 1895, p.
In addition a treaty was agreed with Kingdom of Bavaria for the entire Mainz–Ludwigshafen line. Whilst the city of Worms would have preferred a station in the vicinity of the port, the HLB, after a degree of toing and froing, built it further west where it is today. Thereafter building proceeded apace and the 46 kilometre long route was opened in several sections from Mainz to Worms during the period 23 March (Mainz – Oppenheim) to 24 August 1853. From 15 November 1853 trains ran through from Mainz to Ludwigshafen.
Very little of this highway actually existed in reality; by 1920, only of the long route had been built. In the 1930 renumbering of state highways in New York, the segment of former Route 3-a from Port Jervis to Callicoon was designated as NY 97, even though two sections of the route—between NY 42 at Sparrow Bush and Mongaup and from Pond Eddy to near the hamlet of Tusten—were still incomplete. The remainder of old Route 3-a north of Callicoon, which was fully constructed by 1930, became part of NY 17B.
After the discovery of the return voyage to the Americas by Andres de Urdaneta in 1565, cargoes of Chinese goods were transported from the Philippines to Mexico and from there to Spain. By this long route, Spain reaped some of the profits of Far Eastern commerce. Spanish officials converted the islands to Christianity and established some settlements, permanently establishing the Philippines as the area of East Asia most oriented toward the West in terms of culture and commerce. The Moro Muslims fought against the Spanish for over three centuries in the Spanish–Moro conflict.
This envisaged a 20.09 kilometre-long route to Pfeffenhausen at a cost of 1,250,000 marks. However it concluded that the construction of a route from Pfeffenhausen to Eggmühl would not have met the transportation interests of the upper Laaber Valley, which was aligned with the county capital of Landshut. So the Royal Bavarian State Government decided, in the supplement to the draft of the Lokalbahn ('local line') law of 12 December 1895, that a Lokalbahn from Landshut to Pfeffenhausen with an extension to Rottenburg would be the most appropriate course. The option of extending it to Ingolstadt was left open.
Cars and motorcycles on the start of the rally in Paris The 1992 Paris-Cape Town Rally was the 14th running of the Dakar Rally event with a unique routing. The rally had a long route, starting from Paris, France, on 23 December 1991 and finishing at Cape Town, South Africa, on 16 January 1992. The route passed through Libya, Niger, Chad, Central African Republic, Cameroon, Gabon, Republic of the Congo, Angola, and Namibia. Participants used maritime transport to get from Pointe-Noire (Republic of the Congo) to Lobito (Angola), so they did not cross the territory of Zaire.

It is well connected by the road services as well. Privately owned buses and other vehicles run for short routes like Uchana to Jind, Narwana, , Hansi, Hisar, Gogharia, Karsindhu etc.. Long route direct buses are also available for Delhi, Sangrur, Ludhiana, Amritsar, Patiala, Jammu etc.
Eventually regrouping with the Federation forces, White Base participated in Operation Odessa, the bloodiest Earth battle of the entire One Year War, helping to obliterate the main foothold of the Zeon invasion forces on Earth. She then restocked and refueled in Belfast before traveling across the Atlantic Ocean. After the long route around the world, White Base finally arrived and docked at Jaburo, the Federation's main base and mobile suit manufacturing facility located underground in South America. Unfortunately, they ended up leading Char's Mad Angler unit to Jaburo, at which point he attempted an infiltration, which was repelled.
The Havel–Oder–Wasserstraße (HOW) is the approximately 135 km long navigable connection between Berlin (Havel and Spree) and the German-Polish border at the Westoder at Friedrichsthal north of Schwedt. It is divided into four sections (Havel-, Scheital-, Oderhaltung and the Hohensaaten-Friedrichsthaler Wasserstraße (HFW)), which are connected by the Lehnitz lock, the ship's lift Niederfinow and the West Schleuse Hohensaaten. The approximately 6 km long route between the Havel and Lehnitz lock and about 48 km long peak position are together called Oder-Havel-Kanal. For the Oderhaltung (Wriezener Alte Oder) section of the river, also known as the Oderberger Gewässer.
In 2008, despite the competition of the Olympic Games in Beijing, the event see a record of number of participates with 1260 registered on the long route and 600 on the short. Despite awful weather the race is held, although there are over 110 dropouts during the descent of the Izoard. In 2010, the event supports the twinning of the town of Embrun with the Thai island of Ko Samui with the creation of a long-distance triathlon on the island. The planned first event in 2011 was canceled due to natural disasters, but an event took place on 22 April 2012.
The construction of the Wendelstein Railway was the vision of privy councillor (Geheimer Kommerzienrat), Dr. h.c. Otto von Steinbeis, an industrialist, who was involved in forestry and agriculture in the alpine foreland as well as logging in Bosnia on a grand scale and built, in parallel with that, an extensive light railway (Kleinbahn) network. In 1908 he published his plans and on 4 February 1910 Prince-Regent Luitpold signed the concession deed for the construction of the Wendelstein Rack Railway. The original long route, running from Brannenburg over the eastern flank of the mountain, has seven tunnels, eight galleries and twelve bridges.
But the freeway was opened only as far east as Tonopah, and heavy traffic was routed down narrow county roads through the desert and fields between Tonopah and Buckeye. In addition, there was only one very-small gas station on the very-long route between Buckeye and Quartzsite, on the old county road at the tiny crossroads of Palo Verde. Signs warning "No Services Next 106 Miles" were posted at either end of the Brenda Cutoff those first few years. The freeway was extended past Tonopah as far east as Phoenix's western fringes (at Cotton Lane) in about 1974.
US 9W crosses Madison from Delaware Avenue to Lark Street, with its concurrent NY 443 terminating on the southern side of the intersection where Delaware ends at Madison. Shortly afterward, US 20 runs along the south side of Empire State Plaza, the modern complex that houses the offices of state legislators and many executive branch agencies. A few blocks further is South Pearl Street, also NY 32, a long route from the lower Hudson Valley to Glens Falls. US 20 follows two blocks of South Pearl Street and NY 32 to reach an interchange with the South Mall Arterial.
In the Northern Territory, Highway 1 is a long route with a long spur, that connects Darwin to northern Western Australia and Queensland. The route traverses the territory, from the Western Australian border near Kununurra, to Katherine, and then across to the Queensland border near Wollogorang, with a spur section linking Katherine to Darwin. Highway 1 continues around the rest of Australia, joining all mainland state capitals, and connecting major centres in Tasmania. All roads within the Highway 1 system are allocated a road route numbered 1, M1, A1, or B1, depending on the state route numbering system.
The 20 km long section from the motorway intersection Deggendorf to Iggensbach was completed in 1975, followed in 1978 by the subsequent approximately 21 km long route to the junction Passau -Nord and in 1979 another 9 km to Passau-Süd together with the Danube bridge Schalding. In 1983, the motorway section between Passau-South and the Austrian border was completed. Between Regensburg and Deggendorf was only built in the late 1970s to early 1980s. In 1980, the A 3 of Rosenhof was extended by 9 km to Wörth on the Danube, with a further Danube crossing was created (Danube bridge Wörth).
Bharatpur Airport (located in Chitwan, not in Gaindakot) is located on the south of Gaindakot and is the nearest airport connecting to Kathmandu. Four domestic airlines and one government airline make 7 to 11 flights a day. Mahendra (East West) Highway connects Gaindakot to Kankarbhitta in the east to Bhimdatta (formerly Mahendranagar) in the west of the country while another highway connects Gaindakot with Kathmandu and Pokhara via Narayangadh. Bus, Micro bus and other land transportation are available for long route journey and for internal transportation taxi, rickshaw and car/jeep hiring is available from Pulchok Narayangadh, next to Narayani Gridge.
Randonneuring events (also called brevets or audaxes) are generally non- competitive rides where racing is not the focus; they are ridden more as personal challenges. They also differ from most ultracycling and bikepacking races in that group riding and drafting is allowed. Supplies and accommodation are often provided by the organizers at intermediate checkpoints, but the use of support vehicles is not allowed outside of the checkpoints. The most famous of this type of event is Paris-Brest-Paris in France, in which over 5,000 people attempt to complete the long route in under 90 hours.
The Voigtland State Railway (Voigtländische Staatseisenbahn), which was opened in 1865 by the Royal Saxon State Railways (Königlich Sächsische Staatseisenbahnen), provided a rail connection to numerous villages and towns in the Vogtland railway, but it involved numerous twists on a long route. In the 1860s, it was planned to shorten the route by the construction of the Plauen–Oelsnitz link. Weischlitz received a station on the section of the line approved in 1868. The White Elster was moved a little farther west into a new river bed to allow the station to be built on the river bed.
It is expected that from 2020, Martinsried will be connected directly to the Munich U-Bahn. On December 16, 2014, the Bavarian government decided to continue the Munich U-Bahn line 6-West from Klinikum Großhadern to Martinsried. 73.5 million euro were invested and an approximately 900-meter long route is to be built starting in 2016 and is due to go into operation in 2020. The extension of the U6 in the south to Martinsried was already decided on July 20, 2009 by the Munich City Council, but the originally projected 2014/2015 opening could not be realized.
As a minister, he had sold an eight-seated helicopter owned by the West Bengal Govt, and with that money bought double- decker buses to improve public transport in Calcutta. He gave permit to several new routes for SBSTC, private bus, minibus & long-route buses. He had also successfully implemented the launch & steamer service in the Hooghly Riverways whose initiative was taken in his early stint during the United Front government. As an MLA, he made sure that the state government acquisitioned the Britannia Engg. Ltd. at Titagarh and re-instate all its workers with less than 58 years age.
The new section of B.P. Koirala Highway to Kamalamai from Kathmandu opened in 2011 and continues on to Bardibas, though most areas only allow one lane of traffic with hairpin turns. The rest of the route to Bardibas is even and therefore much less dangerous. An old road that connects Dharan through Inner Tarai is going to reopen for the easier movement through the Inner Tarai Valleys of Sindhuli and Udayapur of Western Region to Dharan of Eastern Nepal. Long-route buses run under the local authority in the headquarters which has bus routes to cities like Kathmandu, Janakpur, Biratnagar and Pokhara.
A train needed about 20 minutes to negotiate the 3.5 kilometre long route at a top speed of 30 km/h. These timings are still valid today, even though the route has been changed several times. In 1901 a 1.9 kilometre long stub line was built from the Saline, the half-way point on the route towards the western part of the island in order to link the military base there. In 1905 a second pier, the East Pier or Ostanleger, was erected and a 5.4 kilometre long rail link built from there to the Inseldorf.
Hoboken Shore Railroad , initials HSRR, was a New Jersey railroad which was created around 1954. It took over the activities of the Hoboken Manufacturers Railroad , initials HMRR. This railroad owned only of mainline but leased about 1906 the longer route of the Hoboken Shore Road operated since 1897 by the Hoboken Railroad Warehouse and Steamship Connecting Company, initials HRRWH&SSConCo; or HRRW&SSCCO.; The long route of the HBS run along the Hoboken waterfront, serving as a switching and terminal railroad for all connecting carriers between the Erie yard in Weehawken and the Hoboken Piers and a car float transfer bridge.
Trains ran through from Simbach to Pocking and also worked the stub line from Tutting via Rotthalmünster to Kößlarn. In 1921 four pairs of trains ran daily from Simbach to Pocking, the journey time for the 28.4 kilometres being 105 minutes; which represented an average speed of 16 km/h. On the Tutting–Kößlarn railway three pairs of trains worked the line each day, taking 38 minutes to traverse the 9.8 kilometre long route. In the winter of 1953/54 Uerdingen railbuses appeared on both lines, reducing the journey time to 57 and 22 minutes respectively.
Car parts were to be transported by tram from the logistics center in Dresden Friedrichstadt to the new factory, using infrastructure normally used for passenger trams. The long route from the logistics center to the factory ran straight through the inner city of Dresden; the use of trucks would have caused an increase of traffic in the city. Two CarGoTrams were built by Schalker Eisenhütte Maschinenfabrik GmbH Gelsenkirchen, at a cost of 6.5 million Deutsche Mark each. The freight tram was officially introduced in Dresden on 16 November 2000 and had its first test run on 3 January 2001.
The Langenschwalbach variant of the T 9 with the Prussian state railways was a 0-6-2T tank locomotive. They were planned for service on the Aartalbahn between Wiesbaden and Langenschwalbach (today Bad Schwalbach), because this line, with inclines of up to 3,3%, had proven too steep for the Prussian T 3 engines on duty there. As a result, it was decided in 1889 to build eight new locomotives for the 21.4 km long route. The engines had Allan valve gear, the carrying axle was designed as an Adams axle and the steam dome was located on the front boiler ring.
From there, cargoes could be reloaded onto pack animals again and taken either east to Kashmir and then on to Taxila (a long route), or west to Chitral which provided relatively easy access to either Jalalabad, or Peshawar via Swat. The "Sacred Rock of Hunza" has numerous petroglyphs depicting mounted horseman and ibex along with Kharoshthi inscriptions that mention Saka and Pahlava rulers. Historians assess that Maues must have used the Karakorum route via Mintaka or Kilik passes to capture Taxila in the first century BCE. Mintaka Pass was the main route used until the recent advance of glaciers.
Postcard of The Tubular Bridge - believed to show the creator of The Gobbins, Berkley Deane Wise and his wife, Leah, in about 1902. Berkeley Deane Wise drew up a map of his planned path in 1902, showing a 3 & 1/4 mile long route. It would start near the village of Ballystrudder (a small laneway just off the ‘Gobbins Road’ is still called the ‘Gobbins Path’ as a consequence). The path would then run for a mile or more along an undulating section of coast, skirting farmers' fields before reaching the spectacular ‘cliff section’ where visitors would enjoy bridges, tunnels and caves.
Confrontations with Italian CR-42 fighters and a convoy of German infantry sees the patrol lose nine men and all their vehicles, leaving only Lampard and two others alive. They manage to reach their base camp and rejoin the detachment that had been left there. Flown by an Italian pilot named Di Marco, Schramm’s Heinkel flies the long route to the British transit base at Fort Lamy in Chad. Due to its isolation, the base is undefended and caught by surprise, allowing the lone Heinkel to destroy months' worth of precious fuel and supplies along with nearly two dozen Hawker Hurricane fighters.
The purpose of the 88 km long route was to connect the industries of Trier, Mettlach (pottery), Völklingen (mining), Saarbrücken and the Saar region (mining and related industries) to the Ruhr and the North Sea ports. Contemporary sources described the line as 12.051 Prussian miles (each 7,532.5 metres) long with a projected construction cost of 5.6 million thalers. At the end of 1859 the first railway reached Trier, although passengers had to use a horse-drawn carriage from Ponten (a district of Besseringen) over the mountain to Mettlach, since the tunnel was not yet complete.Hoppstädter (1961), p. 107f.
In August 1861 the GWR completed the laying of mixed gauge to Paddington, so that narrow gauge trains could run throughout from Birkenhead, and on 1 October 1861 the first narrow gauge through train ran. For some time the GWR did little to develop long distance passenger traffic; it had the handicap of the long route via Oxford, and of serving Liverpool from the Birkenhead side of the Mersey. Only from 1880 was a fast through train put on, known as the Northern Zulu. From this time the North and West route had trains from Cardiff and the West of England.
From 11 June to 25 September 1898, Celtic supplied fleet units in Cuban and Florida waters with medical supplies, fresh provisions, and ice. On 12 October, she cleared New York to round Cape Horn on the long route to the Asiatic Station, arriving at Cavite, Philippine Islands, 30 March, for service as storeship. Supporting the quelling of the Philippine–American War, Celtic carried stores and passengers between the Philippines and Australian ports until 16 July 1903, when she weighed anchor for Puget Sound Navy Yard. Here she was out of commission between 18 September 1903 and 19 October 1905.
Unable to use the Suez Canal, closed as a result of the hostilities between Israel and Egypt that followed in the wake of Nasser's nationalization of the canal the preceding summer, the warship deployed to the Indian Ocean via the long route around southern Africa. Steaming by way of the Azores, Beale reached the African coast at Freetown, Sierra Leone, on 30 March. She visited Simonstown, Union of South Africa, from 10 to 12 April before rounding Cape Agulhas, Africa's southernmost point, on her way to Mombassa, Kenya. After leaving Mombassa, the destroyer sailed to the Persian Gulf where she called at Qeshm, Iran, and Bahrain.
Route 22, which had been operating since 1947 along its current route, succeeding Route S, its parent route, had a very long route up until 2001 that in all served nearly ¾ the circumference of the city, and only selected trips operated along Route 16's route, with the remainder terminating at Mondawmin. Due to the length and confusion among riders, MTA decided that Route 16 service should be provided on a separate line. When Route 16 started, rush hour service operated every 30 minutes, and service at all other times was provided hourly. Sunday service along the route, which had not been provided on Route 22, was introduced.
Pumari Chhish (), (or Pumarikish, Peak 11) is a high peak of the Hispar Muztagh, a subrange of the Karakoram range. It lies about 4 km east of Khunyang Chhish, in the heart of the Hispar, north of the Hispar Glacier. Pumari Chhish was first attempted by an Austrian group in 1974, who failed to climb or bypass the Yazghil Glacier on the north side of the peak. In 1979, a Japanese group from the Hokkaido Alpine Association and Pakistani Army officer of 29 signal succeeded in climbing the mountain via a long route starting from the Khunyang Glacier, well to the west of the peak.
The Saint Cloud and Red River Valley Stage Road–Kandota Section is a preserved fragment of a stagecoach road in Kandota Township, Minnesota, United States. It was part of a long route established in 1859 that ran from St. Cloud, Minnesota, to the Red River Valley on the border of Minnesota, North Dakota, and Manitoba. The road fragment was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1991 for having state-level significance in the theme of transportation. It was nominated for being a remnant of one of Minnesota's most important stagecoach roads, and a reminder of the stagecoach companies' founding role in establishing the state's overland travel routes.
The line is part of the Magistrale for Europe, which is almost identical with the Trans-European Transport Networks (TEN-T) project No. 17, the upgrade of the Paris–Strasbourg–Stuttgart–Munich–Vienna–Bratislava/Budapest railway axis. While the TEN project between Paris and Bratislava will be almost completed by 2020, on the Munich–Mühldorf–Freilassing section there have been significant planning delays. This section is the longest missing link on the over 1300 km long route between Paris and Bratislava. The proposed measures would allow a considerable reduction in travel time for local and long-distance traffic and substantial improvements for regional services in southeast Bavaria (integrated regular interval services).
Mainwaring proceeds to inspect everyone's feet, despite having a slight problem in his back that eventually results in him using a chair to inspect the platoon's feet. After he has finished, he concludes that everyone's feet are fine, but he decides to impose some long route marches to get their feet up to scratch. After a fifteen-mile march, Mainwaring asks the men to have their feet ready for inspection in five minutes, while he and Wilson have a chat in the office. Mainwaring confides in Wilson that he knows that he is a shy and sensitive man who handles the men quietly and subtly.
To cope with the increased traffic due to growing tourism in the region, Serfaus banned private traffic in winter in the 1970s. For the transportation of guests (and especially skiers) a bus service was established. In order to provide an even quieter and more environmentally friendly means of transportation from the entrance of the town through to the cable-car station, the small underground train system, the Dorfbahn Serfaus went into operation in 1985. The use of the underground is free-of-charge and along its 1280m-long route it has four stops (Parkplatz, Kirche, Raika, Seilbahn) and can transport up to 1500 people per hour.
Whereas line 3 used to end at the North station, it now continues all the way to Esplanade, while the line 4 route was shortened to terminate at North Station. Because of this, the very long route of line 4 and the short route of line 3 are now equalized. Before the line was taken out of service for a while, the line was serviced by both the modern low-floor trams (the T3000 and T4000) as well as the older two-part PCC-trams (T7700 and T7800). After its return in 2008, the line is serviced by the modern low-floor trams only, mostly of the T4000 type.
The Germania plan of the Nazis envisaged the upgrading of the line to Köpenick to six tracks, as a long-distance S-Bahn service (similar to the modern Regional- Express trains) would run between Köpenick and Ostkreuz and cover the nearly ten kilometre-long route without stopping. In addition, a direct connection for long-distance trains would have been provided because of the outbreak of the Second World War. After the end of the war some tracks were dismantled by the Soviet military administration for war reparations. In the Berlin area this mostly involved the dismantling of one long-distance and one S-Bahn track.
Map of a proposed route 75 to Footscray extension, including two potential termini. Melbourne and Maribyrnong City Councils have advocated for a new tram link between the CBD and Footscray. The commonly cited route would be to extend Route 75 tram tracks from their current terminus near Harbour Town in Docklands along the median of Footscray Road, acting as a light rail with minimal stops, before crossing the Maribyrnong River into Napier Street. From here it is possible the tram could terminate at Footscray railway station by turning right at Hyde Street, or following Whitehall and Hopkins Streets to rejoin Route 82 as one long route.
In South Australia, Highway 1 is a long route that follows the coastline of the state, from the Victorian border near Mount Gambier to the Western Australian border near Eucla. Highway 1 continues around the rest of Australia, joining all mainland state capitals, and connecting major centres in Tasmania. All roads within the Highway 1 system are allocated a road route numbered 1, M1, A1, or B1, depending on the state route numbering system, and parts are concurrent with National Highway routes. In South Australia, most of the highway is designated as route A1, with multi-lane, dual-carriage-way sections generally designated route M1.
Kempten citizens proposed a railway line to Ulm via Memmingen in 1843, as the construction of dams and water mills during the period of industrialisation had ended raft traffic on the river Iller and road transport was not viable. The Bavarian government, however, was not interested in further construction in this area. Because Memmingen was not then included in plans for the first railways in the country, the city took the initiative to build the Iller Valley Railway. It granted a concession on 13 September 1861 for the original 85.0 km long route that branched off the state railway from Neu-Ulm and ran up the river to Kempten.
After Lelouch's escape, Kallen tries to protest how Ohgi and the others have discarded Zero so readily despite all that he has done for them, but they refuse to listen, still angered at the idea that they were merely being used as pawns. When Lelouch is crowned Emperor, Kallen and the rest of the Black Knights are visibly stunned. Following Lelouch's declaration that Britannia will join the U.F.N., Kallen escorts him to the meeting, giving orders to the Black Knights beforehand to gun her down if she appears to be under the influence of Geass. Lelouch gets her to take the long route, giving them the chance to speak in private.
The adjacent Freeman Coliseum became available to add on-site access for retailers to sell western wear, furniture and other items during the annual rodeo. The San Antonio Spurs of the NBA, who share the AT&T; Center with the Rodeo, goes on “The Rodeo Road Trip” during the three weeks of the rodeo. The Western Heritage Parade & Cattle Drive is the kick-off for the San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo and helps us celebrate our proud Texas heritage. The mile long route through the streets of downtown San Antonio features participants such as Fort Hood 1st Cavalry Division, Fort Sam Houston Caisson and of course, a herd of Texas Longhorns.
By the time of its opening, local traffic was already being carried by road. As a result, the only intermediate station, Hanford Road Halt, was closed after just three years. However, the original plan was to extend the line to Pool Dam, Newcastle-under-Lyme, to form a four mile long route around the growing suburbs. In preparation for this a steel bridge was constructed in September 1914 over London Road (now part of the A34) just beyond Trentham Park, but the extension was halted by World War I. It remained as a bridge to nowhere until 1940, when it was dismantled for scrap for the World War II effort.
Finally, modern ethnographical and anthropological studies have shown a pattern of cultural shift mutually experienced by both Han and Plains Aborigines, resulting in a hybrid culture. Today people who comprise Taiwan's ethnic Han demonstrate major cultural differences from Han elsewhere. Within the Taiwanese Han Hoklo community itself, differences in culture indicate the degree to which mixture with aboriginals took place, with most Hoklo Han in Northern Taiwan having almost no Aboriginal admixture, which is limited to Hoklo Han in Southern Taiwan. Plains aboriginals who were mixed and assimilated into the Hoklo Han population at different stages were differentiated by the historian Melissa J. Brown between "short-route" and "long-route".
In the 1st century after hijrah or 638 CE, Hafar Al-Batin was just a route in the desert that pilgrims passed through traveling to Mecca for Hajj. At that time, there was no water available in this land, so the pilgrims travelled from Iraq to Mecca on a long route without water. During the reign of Uthman (644 - 656 CE), many pilgrims complained about the lack of water, and Abu-Musa al-Asha'ari, a companion of the Islamic prophet Muhammad responded by digging new wells along the route in the Al-Batin valley. The name of Hafar Al-Batin (, "the hole of Al-Batin Valley") is derived from this.
As of end of 2015, the Gelderland county in the Netherlands, plans to put it to use on a 7 km long route between Ede-Wageningen station and the campus of Wageningen University and Research Center. In September 2016, a pilot consisting of a short public transport route served by two EZ10 vehicles started in the village of Appelscha. In December 2016, the EZ10 began use in the first autonomous vehicle passenger shuttle route in North America, looping through Bishop Ranch Office Park in San Ramon, California, operated by First Transit. In 2017, EZ10 was introduced on the grounds of National Taiwan University in Taipei, and in Tallinn, Estonia.
As a result of increased traffic to the area between 2012 and 2014, the Willamette National Forest administration enforced a campsite reservation system as of 2016, but stopped the practice in 2017 due to its failure to reduce human impact within the region. The Jefferson Lake Trail runs for round trip, with an elevation gain of . Parts of the Trail were destroyed by a fire in the wilderness area in 2003, but the surviving remnants of the trail reopened after maintenance work was completed. At Marion Lake, there are several trails, including a long route and a hike to Marion Mountain that lasts round-trip.
The elaborate ferry operations of the Hessian Ludwig Railway was financed by a fare surcharge equivalent to an additional 8.4 kilometres. This meant that a passenger who wanted to travel from Worms to Bensheim had to pay the fare for a 32.5 km for a 24.1 km long route. Similalr fare regulations at that time applied in some other cases, for example, in relation to the pontoon bridge in Speyer and the Wesel Railway Bridge. As part of the straightening of the Rhine between 1817 and 1876 and as a result of military considerations, the planning of a bridge over the Rhine at Worms was undertaken from 1890.
From 1934 to 1935, the US 59 designation referred to a -long route across southeastern Minnesota, from Lake City, Minnesota, to the Iowa state line just short of Chester, Iowa. That entire route is now part of US 63, and nowhere close to the present US 59, established in 1935. In 1933, much of the present US 59 and the entirety of US 96 in Texas were originally proposed to be part of US 71\. Under this plan, discussed at a meeting of the United States Good Roads Association in Beaumont, US 71 was to be diverted out of Louisiana altogether and instead re-routed from the Texarkana area southward through East Texas.
Train workshop, Wolverton works Wolverton railway works, known locally as Wolverton Works or just The Works, was established in Wolverton, Buckinghamshire, by the London and Birmingham Railway Company in 1838 at the midpoint of the -long route from London to Birmingham. The line was developed by Robert Stephenson following the great success of the Liverpool and Manchester Railway line. The Victorian era new towns of Wolverton and New Bradwell were built to house the workers and service the works. The older towns of Stony Stratford and Newport Pagnell grew substantially too, being joined to it by the Wolverton and Stony Stratford Tramway and the Wolverton to Newport Pagnell Line (a branch line), respectively.
Route 177 was the shortest state highway recorded in Somerset County, New Jersey and the second shortest around the entire state of New Jersey. (New Jersey Route 59 is the shortest recorded route in the state at long.) Route 177 went for a short, state-maintained portion of Bridge Street in Somerville. One of only three state highways in Somerset County after the 1953 state highway renumbering, Route 177 was the only one to be decommissioned later on. (The other two highways are Route 27 further south and Route 28 further north) The short-lived designation went from U.S. Route 206 in Somerville, up Bridge Street near the Old Cemetery to Fifth Street, where state maintenance terminated.
The Indonesian historian and former Minister of Education and Culture Nugroho Notosusanto described Sudirman as "his only idol", citing the general's guerrilla period as the origin of the army's esprit de corps. The general's guerrilla campaign is emphasised in biographies of him because, during that period, the army had a greater role than the exiled political leadership; beginning in the 1970s, all military cadets had to retrace the long route prior to graduation, a "pilgrimage" meant to instill a sense of struggle. Sudirman's grave is also a pilgrimage destination, both for the military and general public. According to Katharine McGregor of the University of Melbourne, the Indonesian military has elevated Sudirman to a saint-like status.
Construction began in the autumn of 1900 under the direction of senior engineer R. Hennings, who also led the construction work on the Albula Railway at the same time. The 19.3 km- long route was divided into three lots: Reichenau–Versam, Versam–Valendas- Sagogn, and Valendas-Sagogn–Ilanz. The Rhine gorge presented construction workers and engineers with problems, as the rock there is very brittle and the Anterior Rhine in this area rises very high in heavy rain or during snowmelt. In addition, because of its instability, the rock from the Rhine Gorge could not be used for the construction of walls and track, so all the necessary stones had to be brought from more distant quarries.
From Surab, a 470 kilometre long route known as the N85 National Highway will connect central Balochistan with the town of Hoshab in southwestern Balochistan province near the city of Turbat. The stretch of road between these cities was completed in December 2016, as per schedule. Along the Western Alignment route, the towns of Hoshab and Gwadar are connected by a newly built 193-kilometer-long portion of the M8 Motorway – the Hoshab to Gwadar portion of the motorway was completed and inaugurated in February 2016 by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif. The Western Alignment will be flanked by special economic zones along its route, with at least seven special economic zones planned to be established in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
In Queensland, Highway 1 is a long route that crosses the state, from the Northern Territory (NT) border near Wollogorang to Cairns, and then travels along the coastline to the New South Wales (NSW) border near Coolangatta. Highway 1 continues around the rest of Australia, joining all mainland state capitals, and connecting major centres in Tasmania. All roads within the Highway 1 system are allocated a road route numbered 1, M1, A1, or B1, depending on the state route numbering system. In Queensland, the highway is designated as National Route 1 from the NT border to Cairns, Route A1 from Cairns to Kybong, and then Route M1 down to the NSW border.
SR 285 begins its long route at a partial cloverleaf interchange with SR 28 west of the Wenatchee Valley Mall in East Wenatchee. The freeway crosses the Columbia River from Douglas County into Wenatchee and Chelan County on the Senator George Sellar Bridge, listed as a part of the National Register of Historic Places. The highway becomes Stevens Street and has a small interchange with Wenatchee Avenue before turning north onto Mission Street. SR 285 serves Downtown Wenatchee and splits into a one-way pair with southbound lanes on Chelan Avenue and northbound lanes staying on Mission Street, passing the Wenatchee branch of the North Central Regional Library at Memorial Park and the Wenatchee Valley Hospital.
A more direct long route south to Perth, bypassing Aberdeen, was planned. This left the Inverness & Aberdeen Junction at Forres on a steeply graded line, before heading south to a summit at Dava, then to Grantown and the River Spey to Kingussie, before another climb to a summit at the Pass of Druimuachdar, at the highest in Britain. The line then descended to Birnam, from Perth and linked to Perth by the Perth & Dunkeld Railway since 1856. Although a similar route had been rejected in 1845 because of the high altitudes and speed gradients, there had been sufficient advance in locomotive design to satisfy the fears of the parliamentary committee, and authority was given in 1861.
LAG railbus in early 1905 at Oberammergau station This 23.671 km long route was completed on 1 May 1900 under a Bavarian concession granted on 24 January 1897 to the Lokalbahn AG (LAG). On 1 January 1905 it was electrified, becoming the first railway in Germany to run on single-phase AC power. Originally the line was electrified with 5.5 kV, 16 Hz AC. With effect from 1 August 1938 the LAG was transferred to the Deutsche Reichsbahn. But it was not until 1954/55 that the power system was converted to the usual 15 kV, 162/3 Hz by the Deutsche Bundesbahn, and four of the five DRG Class E 69 electric locomotives modified accordingly.
Augsburg-Hirblinger Strasse station The Royal Bavarian State Railways opened the 23 km long route from Augsburg to Oberhausen on 5 December 1903; all trains began and ended at Augsburg Hauptbahnhof. The volume of traffic on the route entirely fulfilled the expectations of the operator and, in 1909, the line was classed as the second most profitable Lokalbahn in Bavarian Swabia. Between 1929 and May 1933 the main line from Augsburg to Ulm was relayed west of Augsburg-Oberhausen for a length of 7.5 km as part of the electrification of the railway. In doing so the branch off point for the Weldenbahn was moved to the station at Augsburg-Hirblinger Strasse.
In early January the squadron moved out, first to Hickam Field, then along a long route to the Southwest Pacific via Christmas Island Airfield, Canton Island Airfield, Tontouta Airfield on Fiji, Plaine Des Gaiacs Airfield on New Caledonia then to RAAF Base Townsville in Queensland, Australia. Upon arrival in Australia, the B-17Ds that they had ferried to Townsville were sent to other units in Australia. Instead, the 7th Group would receive new equipment and Consolidated LB-30 Liberators were supplied to the group. From Australia, it was decided to send the 7th Group to airfields on Java in the Netherlands East Indies to conduct raids on advancing Japanese ground forces and naval targets.
Highway 17A is a long route connecting Highway 99 and Highway 17; this route was originally numbered Highway 17 between these two points but the numbering was altered once the South Fraser Perimeter Road neared completion (on December 1, 2012). Beginning at its interchange with Highway 17, Highway 17A proceeds due north as a 4-lane expressway. after the dual-interchanges with Highway 17 and Deltaport Way, the expressway reaches a junction with Ladner Trunk Road at Ladner; , Highway 17A finally terminates at the on-ramp to Highway 99. It terminates and continues at its northern end as 62b Street which becomes River Road, a secondary connector from South Delta to North Delta which passes Tilbury Industrial Park.
The short-loop route through the southwest part of the zoo grounds was scheduled to be removed permanently, and during the one-year suspension of service a new section of track was to be laid to create a replacement for the short loop. Train operations returned running on the new Zoo Loop line only as of November 22, 2014. In May of 2018 an online petition was created in opposition to the Washington Park Master Plan's endorsement to remove the "long route", which runs from the Oregon Zoo to the International Test Rose Garden. The master plan primarily called for the removal of all tracks so that it could be replaced by a paved twelve foot (12') wide path.goo.
A ten km-long narrow gauge railway was opened from Elmshorn to Barmstedt via Elmshorn by the Elmshorn-Barmstedter Eisenbahn-AG (Elmshorn-Barmstedt Railway Company) on 15 July 1896. On 9 June 1907, this was taken over by the Elmshorn-Barmstedt- Oldesloer Eisenbahn-AG (Elmshorn-Barmstedt-Oldesloer Railway Company, EBOE), which was founded on 3 December 1904 in Elmshorn. On the same day, it opened the Barmstedt–Ulzburg (now Henstedt-Ulzburg)–Oldesloe (now Bad Oldesloe) line as a branch line and licensed the previous narrow-gauge railway as a branch line to allow through traffic to the state railway. The construction of the 42 km-long route cost around 2.9 million marks.
From there, cargoes could be reloaded onto pack animals again and taken either east to Kashmir and then on to Taxila (a long route), or west to Chitral which provided relatively easy access to either Jalalabad, or Peshawar via Swat. The Mintaka Pass was the main one used in ancient times until the fairly recent advance of glacier ice. After the glaciation of the Mintaka Pass, the Kilik Pass was favoured by caravans coming from China and Afghanistan as it is wider, free of glaciers and provided enough pasture for caravan animals. The "Sacred Rock of Hunza" has numerous petroglyphs depicting mounted horseman and ibex along with Kharoshthi inscriptions that mention Saka and Pahlava rulers.
The original route was to lead from Fan Gyhirych, at an altitude of about 1,500 feet and descend to near present-day Sennybridge. However the long route over difficult terrain was discouraging, and in addition he needed to link in a source of coal for the firing process. A modified route was adopted, from quarries lower in the Tawe Valley at 1,267 feet; this involved hauling the limestone up for the first part of the journey to the pass known as Bwlch Bryn-rhudd.Gwyn Birwnant Jones, Denis Dunstone and Tudor Watkins, The Neath and Brecon Railway: A History, Gomer press, Llandysul, 2005, This line was completed in 1824; it was a gauge plateway.
A Parade to celebrate the Naruhito's enthronement as a new emperor took place on 10 November at 3 pm local time (08:00 UTC) as tens of thousands of people gathered in the city centre of Tokyo waving the Japanese flag. Toyota Century convertible, which the couple used was followed by vehicles with Crown Prince Fumihito and his wife Crown Princess Kiko as well as Shinzō Abe. The procession forming a 400-metre motorcade was started from Tokyo Imperial Palace, passed the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department and the main gate of the Diet building before arriving at the couple's residence in the Akasaka Imperial Grounds on the 4.6-kilometre-long (3-mile-long) route.
In 1887, dissatisfaction with the long route via Whitings lead to planning for a 32-mile shortcut from Medford to Manahawkin to shorten the time to Long Beach Island, but the line was not built. During the same year, TRR purchased a caboose. In 1889, Locomotive No. 4 was ordered, another 4-4-0 coal burning engine. Engine No. 1 has been converted to coal. No. 2 needed to be rebuilt and got sidelined. No. 3 was reported overworked. Combine No. 5 and Coach No. 6 were purchased used from the PRR. In 1891, Engine No. 2 was not rebuilt, and instead the TRR purchased another 4-4-0, No. 5 In 1892, TRR owned 9 box cars and 11 flat cars.
View from the Ichenberg tunnel towards Eschweiler Hbf between Düren and Aachen On 1 January 1857, the Company acquired the Bonn-Cologne Railway Company (Bonn-Cölner Eisenbahn-Gesellschaft, BCE) for 1.05 million Prussian thalers along with its 45 km long route from Cologne (St. Pantaleon station) to Bonn and Rolandseck, beginning its development of railways along the Rhine. By 1859, it had extended the West Rhine line (or Left Rhine line, Linke Rheinstrecke) 107 kilometres via Koblenz to Bingerbrück, where it connected with the Hessian Ludwig Railway to Mainz and Ludwigshafen as well as the Nahe Valley Railway to Saarbrücken and its coal mines. In addition, in 1864 the Pfaffendorf bridge was built over Rhine at Koblenz and connected with the Nassau State Railways in Oberlahnstein.
Auvare is located some 45 km north-east of Nice (in a direct line) and 6 km north-east of Puget-Théniers in the heart of the Alps. Access to the commune is by the D16 road from Puget-Theniers which passes through the far south of the commune and continues, changing its designation to D316, to join the D2202 just south of Daluis. Access to the village in the centre of the commune is by a small local road which branches from the D16 in the south of the commune and follows a tortuous and long route to the village. There is also an equally tortuous route going west from the village which eventually meets the D316 west of the commune.
With thousands flocking to the gold fields, and the mail transportation methods relying entirely upon the Pony Express and the long route from the East by water, the difficulties that beset the Buffum brothers were so manifold as to divert from the mind of the two all thought of hunting for the gold that everyone had gone to California to seek. In a short time, however, the gold fever finally entered the veins of young Buffum and he joined a party in a prospecting trip to Calaveras. There, he engaged for a time in mining, but failed to find gold. In 1859, Buffum removed to Los Angeles, where he became agent for the most important distilling concern in the West.
Shutlingsloe is a hill near the village of Wildboarclough, in the east of the county of Cheshire. It stands to the south of Macclesfield Forest, on the edge of the Peak District and within the Peak District National Park.Cheshire County Council: Landscape Character Type 20: Moorland Plateau (2007) (accessed 19 April 2010) A steep-sided hill with a distinctive profile, sometimes described as the 'Matterhorn of Cheshire', it is the third highest peak in the historic county (Black Hill being the highest and Shining Tor second highest) with an elevation of 506 m (1,660 ft) and commands excellent views over Cheshire. The Peak District Boundary Walk crosses the summit, which is the highest point on the footpath's 200-mile long route.
The Mormon Trail is the long route from Illinois to Utah that members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints traveled for 3 months. Today, the Mormon Trail is a part of the United States National Trails System, known as the Mormon Pioneer National Historic Trail. The Mormon Trail extends from Nauvoo, Illinois, which was the principal settlement of the Latter Day Saints from 1839 to 1846, to Salt Lake City, Utah, which was settled by Brigham Young and his followers beginning in 1847. From Council Bluffs, Iowa to Fort Bridger in Wyoming, the trail follows much the same route as the Oregon Trail and the California Trail; these trails are collectively known as the Emigrant Trail.
Already between 1902 and 1905, with the construction of the Schwebda–Wartha railway via Creuzburg, Mihla and Treffurt, the traffic volume had increased and the operation of trains became more complicated due to the increasing density of services. At the same time, it was necessary to raise the tracks by up to 4 m in order to be able to remove the numerous level crossings in the urban area. The town provided 500,000 marks for this first significant project of the 20th century. 10,000 m³ rubble masonry, 850 t of structural steel for viaducts and about 340,000 m³ gravel and track bed were installed on the about 4 km-long route from the Eisenach gas works to the bridge over the Hörsel at Köpping.

Navigating around Narragansett Bay had proved troublesome since the colonial era, the first ferry operation began in 1675 introduced an alternate to the long route around Providence, Rhode Island. Steam service in the West Passage began in 1888 and reduced travel times, but subject to weather conditions. In 1920, the first plans for the Jamestown Bridge began and it was stimulated by the Newport Ferry Company's financial troubles. In 1934, during the Great Depression, the State of Rhode Island sought funding from the United States federal government to construct bridges over both the West Passage and East Passage of the bay. The plans were well-supported and passed the Rhode Island House of Representatives by a 96-to-1 vote, and were approved by President Franklin Roosevelt.
As part of the Chennai Monorail Plan, Corridor 1 Plan for the Chennai Monorail includes 54 km long route from Vandalur to Puzhal via Pallavaram - Kundrathur - Poonamallee Road through Pallavaram, Pammal, Kundrathur, Mangadu, Kumananchavadi, Govardhanagiri, Avadi Market, Ambattur OT and Puzhal. Later, Lighthouse - Poonamallee Route which was proposed for Monorail Project has been taken over by Chennai Metrorail and Vandalur - Velachery Monorail Project has been taken over by CMRL as part of Chennai Light Rail Connectivity between Tambaram and Velachery. Then the route is expected to be taken over for Chennai Light Rail between Pallavaram and Poonamallee which will be extended to Ambattur Industrial Estate and then reach Koyambedu as per Chennai Comprehensive Transportation Study by Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority.
With its diameter driving wheels the locomotive itself achieved the planned speed of 175 km/h without any difficulty, but when hauling its streamlined train it could only reach 160. Nevertheless, the scheduled service between Dresden and Berlin was successfully delivered, the long route being completed in just 102 minutes, a time that, even today (2008), has still not been beaten on this route despite the use of faster electric locomotives. However it was pushed to complete the short turnaround allowed in Dresden because the locomotive not only had to run around, but also replenish its supplies. When 61 001 was not available or when either scheduled or unscheduled work was being carried out on her, a DRG Class 01 or DRG Class 03 headed the train.
A 12-year-old boy, Hans-Thomas, and his father are driving through Europe on a journey to locate and bring home the boy's estranged mother. Whilst on their journey, a strange little man at a petrol station gives Hans-Thomas a magnifying glass, saying mystically: "You'll need it!" and persuades them to drive the long route that takes them through a small village by the name of Dorf. Not long afterwards, Hans-Thomas and his father stop at a roadside café in this village, then Hans-Thomas wanders around the village and gets a giant sticky bun from the village's kind baker to eat on his journey. To Hans-Thomas's great surprise, hidden inside the sticky bun is a tiny book with writing so small that it cannot be read with the naked eye.
Network of the Upper Lusatian Railway Company The Upper Lusatian Railway Company (), which had its headquarters in Ruhland now in the Oberspreewald- Lausitz district, received a concession on 11 October 1871 for the construction of a railway line, partly to provide a direct connection from Breslau (now Wroclaw) to Magdeburg. The 148 km long-route lead west from the rail node of Kohlfurt (now Węgliniec, Poland) through Upper Lusatia via Horka, Hoyerswerda, Ruhland and Elsterwerda-Biehla to Falkenberg in the Lower Lusatia. The Węgliniec–Falkenberg/Elster railway was inaugurated on 1 June 1874 under its first director, Karl Eduard Zachariae von Lingenthal, who headed it until 1876. In 1878, the management of the line was taken over by the Berlin-Anhalt Railway Company (Berlin-Anhaltische Eisenbahn-Gesellschaft), which allowed it to round out its network.
The sappers were given detailed briefings on the plant and the surrounding area, and were trained on large models and mock-ups of the buildings that the plant was composed of, all based on information provided by the SOE agents who had arrived earlier in the month. Because the operation was considered to be extremely important, and its results vital to the Allied war effort, security efforts were extremely thorough. A cover story was provided for the sappers as they conducted their training; a rumour was spread that they were training to compete against a company of American engineers in a fictional 'Washington Cup' athletic event, which involved a long route march to be completed either by glider or parachute, followed by a complex demolition task and finally a demanding endurance test.Mears, p.
The first two years of the war in North Africa were characterized by chronic supply shortages and transport problems. The North African coast has few natural harbors and the British base at Alexandria on the Nile delta was some by road from the main Italian port at Tripoli in Libya. Smaller ports at Benghazi and Tobruk were and west of Alexandria on the Litoranea Balbo (Via Balbia) running along a narrow corridor along the coast. Control of the central Mediterranean was contested by the British and Italian navies, which were equally matched and exerted a reciprocal constraint supply through Alexandria, Tripoli, Benghazi and Tobruk, although the British could supply Egypt via the long route through the Atlantic around the Cape of Good Hope and by the Indian Ocean into the Red Sea.
Another possibility is that his son, also called Roger de Mowbray, donated it after his father's release and the two figures have become confused. However, because of its distance from York, the threat of the church's tax collectors being mugged on the long route between the two places and the extra burden of having to govern it, the Archbishop declared that the town of Masham, through its church, was granted the right to govern its own affairs. The term Peculier, which derives from a Norman word, in this aspect actually means Particular not odd as in the term Peculiar. As a result of this, the Peculier Court of Masham, consisted of 24 men (known historically as the Four and Twenty) which also gave rise to a name of one of the Theakstons' beers.
But since the beginning of the 1990s, the direction of Frankfurt's urban traffic policy has changed and its tramways have been renovated and expanded, with a new route, Line 18, opening in 2011. Although the various lines were founded by a number of private and public operators, all trams are now operated by Verkehrsgesellschaft Frankfurt (VGF, English: Frankfurt Transport Company), and the system is part of the Rhein-Main-Verkehrsverbund (RMV, English: Rhine-Main transport network). In December 2014, the opening of the new line through the Stresemannallee closed a gap in the southern Mainz network. The approximately one kilometer long route created a direct connection between the stops Stresemannallee / Garden Street and Stresemannallee / Mörfelder highway under construction of a new stop at the S-Bahn station Stresemannallee.
On , the aircraft was deployed on the long Moscow- Domodedovo–Alma-Ata route on a regular basis, yet these services were discontinued in . That month, an aircraft of the type was written off after an emergency landing following an electrical failure, withdrawing political support to the project and putting an end to the production. Despite official versions indicating the indefinite suspension of supersonic flights within the Soviet Union, a re-engined version of the aircraft was put on a test flight between Moscow and Khabarovsk in , and the long route was later covered with scheduled services; it was not a nonstop flight, however, since the aircraft had to make a refuelling stop, as the engines consumed more fuel than expected. First flown in , the 120-seater Yakovlev Yak-42 entered service with Aeroflot in 1980.
142,1 km, 710 metres climb Lookout tower on the top of Irottkő - here starts the 1128 km long route of the National Blue Trail The main square of town Kőszeg The route of the Blue Trail begins on the top of the Írott-kő Mountain (884 m) at the feet of the lookout tower on the Austrian-Hungarian border and leads among the mountains of the Kőszegi-hegység (Kőszeg Mountains) until the town of Kőszeg. It passes by the Hétvezér-forrás (Spring of the Seven Leaders), the lookout tower of Óház-tető and the Calvary Church of Kőszeg. After Kőszeg, the Blue Trail reaches the wide plains of Rába River. The route of the Trail crosses the Little Hungarian Plain in northwest-southeastern direction via Sárvár – where the route crosses the Rába River – until Sümeg.
In order to complete the connection to the rest of its network, the New York and Boston Railroad added a one-mile long stretch of track from Bellingham to the end of its network at the terminus of the former Woonsocket Union Railroad in Woonsocket. Despite its grand plans and long route, profitability was a challenge for the New York and Boston Railroad, which faced competition from the nearby Medway Branch Railroad and its connection to the larger Norfolk County Railroad. As a result, passenger traffic remained insufficient to keep the railroad in the black, and in 1864 it went bankrupt. The line was leased for 999 years to the Boston, Hartford and Erie Railroad on December 1, 1864, and outright consolidated with it on January 4, 1865.
At the time of the proposal, the R12 was suffering bus bunching and scheduling problems due to its long route. Proposals were set for route R12 including shortening the to Greenbelt station with the Greenbelt to New Carrollton portion to be replaced by a new route T14 operating between Goddard Corporate Park and Beltway Plaza along the old R12 routing in Old Greenbelt. This however would lead to a reduction of service and a loss of a direct route from route R12 routing to New Carrollton station. Other proposals were a route G12 would run on route R12's routing in Old Greenbelt running between Greenbelt station and New Carrollton station in May and discontinue service into Franklin Park and the Beltway Plaza loop being replaced by route G14 and G16.
8,969 riders left La Villa in a 36-minute long train, the time it took the cyclists to enter the competition to the rhythm of live music and encouragement. There were large numbers and a huge demand for participation (32,600 people), with the usual formula: a fixed number of participants, car-free Dolomite passes, charity initiatives and eco- sustainability, with the use of electric cars and motorbikes to transport the jury and the race organisers. The "mür dl giat" was the great new feature. All cyclists on the medium and long route, during the second passage through La Villa, were asked to face a final tough challenge: after the turn for Corvara, then had to climb the "mür dl giat" (the cat’s wall), as the inhabitants of La Villa are known as ‘cats’.
In 1840 the Slamannan Railway opened between a point on the Ballochney Railway at Arbuckle and a wharf on the Union Canal at Causewayend. While the promoters suggested that traffic would arise from coal pits actually on their line of route, the obvious objective was to convey Monklands coal to Edinburgh direct, by-passing the Forth and Clyde Canal and much of the transit over the M&KR.; However a long route over unpopulated terrain, ending in a rope-worked incline and a transshipment to the canal, seriously limited its potential. The opening of the Slamannan line did give rise to a faster passenger journey from Edinburgh to Glasgow, by canal from Edinburgh to Causewayend, and then successively by the Slamannan, Ballochney, Monkland and Kirkintilloch and Garnkirk & Glasgow Railways; the journey took four hours.
In November 1861, the 13-mile section of track from Needham to Medway was finally opened, followed by a 1.3-mile segment from Medway to West Medway in 1862 and the final 9.9-mile segment outlined in the original charter to the Rhode Island state line in Bellingham in October 1863. In order to complete the connection to the rest of its network, the New York and Boston Railroad added a one-mile long stretch of track from Bellingham to its terminus in Woonsocket, Rhode Island.
Line 4 with extension Layout no 4 was adopted by the STIF Council on 11 April 2012.STIF Press Package - April 2012 archiveLe T4 a trouvé sa voix, Le Parisien, 12 April 2012. The new T4 branch will therefore create a direct route between Clichy-sous-Bois and Montfermeil. It will connect with the RER E and the forthcoming Line 15 of the Grand Paris Express in Bondy and the forthcoming Line 16 of the same network in Montfermeil.Implantation de la gare de Clichy - Montfermeil de la ligne rouge du Grand Paris Express et correspondance avec la ligne 4 du tramway This six- kilometre-long route will include eleven new stations built on average of every 400 to 600 metres; an estimated 38,000 passengers are expected to travel daily along the section between Bondy and Montfermeil.
Due to the sparse settlement along the LMB line, which primarily served businesses established along the line, and the long route to Melchnau as a result of the long eastward sweeping curve it followed, passenger traffic on the St. Urban–Melchnau section was abandoned on 22 May 1982. The section remained open for goods traffic. Passenger services to Melchnau were replaced by buses, which allowed a significant reduction of travel time as they used a more direct route to Langenthal. An early sign of the later merger was a formal agreement that was contracted on 5 April 1984 between the BTI, the OJB, the SNB, the Oberaargauischen Automobilkurse (a bus company; OAK), the Ligerz- Tessenberg-Bahn (a funicular railway; LTB) and the Bielersee-Schiffahrts- Gesellschaft (Lake Biel Ferry Company; BSG) to form Oberaargau-Solothurn- Seeland-Transport (OSST).
Indeed, geologists working for the state park say that the whole area where the cave is located was sea bottom about 600 million years, considering the many sea shells found around the area. It was formed by the continuous action of rain water and the Lapa River that comes down from the Serra Geral. Its name comes from the roaring sound produced by this river running through its long route the two craters on the surface arisen from seismic activity millions of years ago, many halls of stalactites and stalagmites of impressive dimensions of up to and columns with more than 590 meters high. Terra Ronca has a cave mouth of high and wide, with an altar measuring long and high where the religious ceremony of Bom Jesus da Lapa da Terra Ronca takes place at the beginning of August.
Bunsall Incline in the Goyt Valley, now converted to a road The Peak District of Derbyshire has always posed problems for travel, but from 1800 when the Peak Forest Canal was built, an alternative to the long route through the Trent and Mersey Canal was sought, not only for minerals and finished goods to Manchester, but raw cotton for the East Midlands textile industry. One scheme that had been suggested would pass via Tansley, Matlock and Bakewell. In 1810, a prospectus was published for another route via Grindleford, Hope and Edale, but since it could only promise £6,000 a year, in return for an outlay of £500,000, it was received with little enthusiasm. The problem was not only carrying a canal over a height of around a thousand feet, but supplying it with water on the dry limestone uplands.
From 1993, the HzL took over the operation of the Bodensee-Oberschwaben-Bahn, which now runs between Aulendorf and Friedrichshafen. In 1997, the HzL received a contract from the State of Baden-Württemberg for the operation of Regionalbahn services on the Tübingen–Sigmaringen railway, Ulm–Sigmaringen railway and Herbertingen–Aulendorf railway, forming the Zollernalb Railway between Tübingen and Aulendorf. Since September 2003, it has operated the Ringzug in the Schwarzwald-Baar-Heuberg region; this is an S-Bahn-like transport system connecting Blumberg, Tuttlingen, Rottweil, Villingen-Schwenningen and Donaueschingen, for which the Verkehrsbetrieb Ringzu branch was built with its own management and depot. The most recent expansion took place on Lake Constance: in December 2006, it over operations under a new contract of the 17 kilometre-long route of the Seehäsle service over the Stockach–Radolfzell line from SBB GmbH, the German subsidiary of the Swiss Federal Railways.
The official stance of the United States Postal Service, according to an article published by the Historian of the United States Postal Service in April 2008, is that Atoka was the first post office with rural free delivery in Tennessee starting on January 11, 1897. But according to an article in Tipton County's local newspaper, published in 1936: > ATOKA ROUTE ONE IS THIRD IN UNITED STATES > The first rural route established in the South and the third established in > the United States was set up at Atoka in 1895. > At that time the United States Post Office Department was experimenting > with rural routes. They established one in the North, one in the East, and > one in the South at Atoka... > The first route, which was Atoka Route 1, was 16½ miles long... > Route 1 was later combined with route 2, which covers the territory from > Atoka to the Mississippi River.
He leaves out the treatment of relativistic wave mechanics altogether in his otherwise complete introduction to modern applications of quantum mechanics, explaining: "It seems to me that the way this is usually presented in books on quantum mechanics is profoundly misleading." (From the preface in Lectures on Quantum Mechanics, referring to treatments of the Dirac equation in its original flavor.) Others, like Walter Greiner does in his series on theoretical physics, give a full account of the historical development and view of relativistic quantum mechanics before they get to the modern interpretation, with the rationale that it is highly desirable or even necessary from a pedagogical point of view to take the long route. In quantum field theory, the solutions of the free (noninteracting) versions of the original equations still play a role. They are needed to build the Hilbert space (Fock space) and to express quantum field by using complete sets (spanning sets of Hilbert space) of wave functions.
The original structure c. 1870 Ruins of the original structures at the station Royapuram railway station is the place from where the laying down of the second railway line of the South Asia commenced in 1853. The idea of a railway in South India long predated any other railway lines in the Indian Subcontinent when a railway line for Madras was proposed in 1832. In the early 1840s, about 15 years after Stephenson's steam engine undertook that historic Stockton-Darlington journey with its passenger coach, laying of a railway line in South India was discussed in London. In 1845, the Madras Railway Company was formed and the plan was still under discussion. Four years later, the Great India Peninsula Company was formed in 1849, which built a 21-mile-long route from Bori Bunder (later the Victoria Terminus) in Bombay to Thane, becoming India's first railway line opened for traffic on 16 April 1853.
The Black Country New Road (or Black Country Spine Road) is a major road which runs through the West Midlands of England. The route was first planned during the 1980s, as a trunk road to link the planned Black Country Route at Bilston with Junction 1 of the M5 motorway in West Bromwich, featuring grade-separated junctions, although these were abandoned by 1992 due to cost-cutting measures by the Conservative government, with conventional traffic islands taking the place of the grade-separated junctions and part of the route diverted along an existing road instead of running along a new mile-long route. The first phase of the route was completed in July 1995, beginning with a half-mile stretch of dual carriageway linking the A41/A4038 junction in Moxley with the simultaneously completed Black Country Route. It opened at the same time as the Great Bridge to West Bromwich section, which also included the Great Bridge relief road (Great Western Way).
Voyage of Joshua – "The long route" Discussions between Moitessier and his friends Bill King and Loïck Fougeron about a solo non-stop trip around the world came to the notice of Robin Knox-Johnston who also started preparations before the Sunday Times offered their Golden Globe award for the first to circumnavigate alone, nonstop, and unassisted, and for the fastest elapsed time. Somewhat reluctantly, Moitessier decided to sail Joshua to Plymouth to meet the criterion for the race of leaving from an English port, but left months after several smaller and therefore slower boats. He departed Plymouth on August 23, 1968 and, after a quick passage south, he was off the Cape of Good Hope by October 20, 1968. In the process of transferring a canister of film and reports for the Sunday Times to a freighter, he allowed the bow of Joshua to be drawn into the stern of the ship, bending the bowsprit, which he was able to fix with winches on board.

The western maintained section of the route is called the Wentworth Springs Road; it begins in Georgetown, California, a hamlet in California's Gold Country. The road continues from its intersection with State Route 193 toward Wentworth Springs, where the trailhead for the unmaintained portion of the route exists adjacent to Loon Lake. The trail portion of the route is about long and passes in part through the Eldorado National Forest as well as the Tahoe National Forest and the Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit.
A strict hierarchy among the servants developed which persisted in the grander households until the 20th century. The upper servants in large households often withdrew from the servants' hall to eat their dessert courses in the privacy of a steward's room in much the same way the owners of the house had withdrawn to a solar from the Great Hall in the previous era. Strict orders of precedence and deference evolved which became sacrosanct. Holkham Hall: D represents the principal dining room where a disguised door in the classical apse, gives access to long route via stairs and passages by which the food reached the dining room from the distant kitchen in the service wing (bottom right) When dining alone en famille the owners ate in the family wing (top right) even further from the kitchen Staff call bells, attached to bell pulls in various rooms During the 18th century, the only way of summoning a servant was by calling, or a handbell.
Pennsylvania Route 320 (PA 320) is a north-south state highway in southeastern Pennsylvania. The southern terminus of the long route is at PA 291 in Chester. The northern terminus is at PA 23 in Swedeland. The route passes through suburban areas in Delaware and Montgomery counties to the west of Philadelphia, serving Swarthmore, Springfield, Broomall, Villanova, and Gulph Mills. PA 320 intersects many important highways including U.S. Route 13 (US 13) and Interstate 95 (I-95) in Chester, US 1 in Springfield, US 30 in Villanova, and I-76 in Gulph Mills. PA 320 runs parallel to I-476 (Blue Route) for much of its length and crosses it four times. Even though there are no direct interchanges between I-476 and PA 320, several roads that intersect PA 320 provide access to I-476. The southernmost part of PA 320 was built as part of the Providence Road in 1684.
In 413, Liu Yu also surprised and killed his assistant, the general Zhuge Zhangmin (), whom he suspected of considering to act against him when he was away from Jiankang attacking Liu Yi. Meanwhile, in late 412, Liu Yu commissioned the general Zhu Lingshi () to attack Qiao Zong's Western Shu, secretly instructing him to take the long route to Qiao Zong's capital Chengdu by Min River (), rather than the short route by Fu River (). Zhu's forces were able to surprise Qiao Zong's main general Qiao Daofu and Qiao Zong himself, capturing Chengdu in 413 and annexing Western Shu back into Jin. In 414, Liu Yu began to suspect Liu Yi's replacement as the governor of Jing Province, Sima Xiuzhi (), who was a member of the imperial clan and whose son Sima Wensi () had been created the Prince of Qiao and had gathered many adventurers around him. In spring 414, Liu Yu had Sima Wensi's confederates arrested and executed, while delivering Sima Wensi to Sima Xiuzhi, intending for Sima Xiuzhi to show submission by executing Sima Wensi himself.
The day crossings proved to be very unpopular with passengers and the less frequent and irregular service was unpopular with both passengers and freight shippers. The perception created by the loss of the Wahine that the Lyttelton to Wellington ferry service was a less safe option hastened the decline of passenger numbers. Rangatiras long route and the high fuel consumption of her turbo-electric propulsion made her uncompetitive from the start. Running her on the Steamer Express resulted in substantial losses, which by 1974 were at a rate of NZ$4 million a year. On 1 July 1974 the NZ Ministry of Transport chartered Rangatira for six months in order to keep the service running, and on 16 February 1975 the ministry renewed her charter for 12 months. In the 12 months to 31 January 1976 Rangatira earnt NZ$6.3 million but had cost NZ$10 million to operate. on 3 March 1976 Ministry of Transport renewed the charter "for a short period" until a more affordable replacement ship could be brought into service.

The need to speed up the connections between Florence and Rome and to connect the Central Tuscany railway with the Umbrian–Aretina railway, which connected Arezzo to Terni via Perugia began to be considered in the 1870s. To go from the old to the new capital of the Kingdom of Italy, it was necessary to take a very long route via Bucine, Arezzo, Tuoro sul Trasimeno, Perugia, Foligno and Orte. Eleven projects were presented for the new railway line: the first of these involved branching off the Central Tuscany railway at Salarco, crossing the entire Val di Chiana diagonally from south-west to north-east and reaching the Umbrian–Aretina railway near Bastardo, one of the thirteen farms of the former Grand Duchy in the valley, located 7 km north of Arezzo. Other proposals considered included the following routes: Chiusi–Terontola, Salarco–Castiglion Fiorentino, Salarco–Olmo, Acquaviva di Montepulciano–Cortona, Salarco–Bucine (36.10 km long with an estimated cost of lire 3,200,000) and Buoninsegna–Bucine (which would have branched off the Central Tuscan railway at Rapolano Terme).
Aerial photo of D1 near Ostředek D1 somewhere in Vysočina Region In the 1960s, traffic was growing very quickly, and a new plan for a D1 highway Prague – Soviet Union border was formulated. Work on the Prague – Brno section started in 1967, mainly using the old route from first attempt. The 21 km long Prague – Mirošovice segment was completed in 1971, and the 205 km long route to Brno in 1980. In the Slovakian part construction started in 1973 with the 14 km long Ivachnová – Liptovský Mikuláš section, together with the construction of the Liptovská Mara dam. The 19 km Prešov – Košice highway was added in 1980. In the late 1980s and the early 1990s the 19 km long Brno – Vyškov segment was built and another 20 km from Liptovský Mikuláš to Hybe in Slovakia. After the dissolution of Czechoslovakia route changes, construction was no longer planned to Slovakia, but instead to Lipník nad Bečvou (the replacement of the planned route is the R49 expressway). Due to growing traffic near Prague, the first segment to Mirošovice was widened from 4 lanes to 6 lanes and there are similar plans for widening around Brno as well.
No more new trams were ordered. Pilcher organised the UK's first major conversion of an intensively used tram route to buses in the United Kingdom when on 6 April 1930 the service from Cheetham Hill to Stretford Road was abandoned to the motorbus. Manchester's bus fleet then numbered over 100, and with lower overheads and profits increasing after conversion, Pilcher was seen as the man who persuaded some cynics that trams were outdated for British cities and that buses were the future. Thirty years after their initial opening, the old tram routes were showing the need for capital expenditure on new infrastructure – Pilcher used this as one of the main reasons to push ahead with conversion to buses. Major investment was needed for bridge widening on the long route to Altrincham, therefore in June 1931 the trams were replaced by buses. It was followed a month later by the line to Sale Moor and in 1932 the long run up to Middleton got the chop. 12 November 1932 saw the Rochdale to Manchester trams being pulled out of service by Rochdale Corporation. In 1936 the council decided to replace the old trams on Ashton Old Road with new trolleybuses.
A long route that very ambitious hikers have used, especially on multi-day trips with attempts on the range of trailless peaks to Slide's southeast, follows the east branch of the Neversink up to the ridge connecting Slide and Cornell. Starting from the Denning trailhead, the P-EB Trail is followed 1.1 mile (1.8 km) to its junction with the blue-blazed Peekamoose-Table Trail, which drops down to the east 0.35 mile (560 m) into the river valley near the flood plain at the Deer Shanty Brook confluence and its many channels, some of them difficult to cross at high water. After one of the last, alert eyes can find the beginning of the "Fisherman's Path," an unofficial trail following the East Branch far upstream into the wildest country in the Catskills. It takes some skill to follow this trail, as red paint blazes that sometimes appear are often painted out by DEC forest rangers (there are, however, some official campsites along its length) and while it is sometimes wide and obvious it is not always, and switches sides of the river several times.
