The Loggy Bayou Wildlife Management Area (WMA) consists of , approximately 20 miles southeast of Bossier City in south Bossier Parish. The WMA is bordered on the north by LA 154 and the entire east side is bordered by Loggy Bayou. The irregular west boundary partially borders Flat River and Bossier Point road. The southern boundary is US 71.

The parish was formed in 1843 from the western portion of Claiborne Parish. Bossier Parish is part of the Shreveport–Bossier City Metropolitan Statistical Area. Lake Bistineau and Lake Bistineau State Park are included in parts of Bossier and neighboring Webster and Bienville parishes. Loggy Bayou flows south from Lake Bistineau in southern Bossier Parish, traverses western Bienville Parish, and in Red River Parish joins the Red River.

Louisiana Highway 4 (LA 4) is a state highway located in northern Louisiana. It runs in an east–west direction from U.S. Highway 71 (US 71) at Loggy Bayou to LA 605 in Newellton. The entire route parallels Interstate 20 (I-20) an average of about to the south. Along the way, it serves the city of Winnsboro and smaller towns such as Ringgold, Jonesboro, Chatham, Columbia, and Newellton (its eastern terminus).

One of the first settlements on Loggy Bayou was Ninock, established in 1837 by Peabody Atkinson Morse, a Massachusetts native and a relative of Samuel F. B. Morse, a portrait painter and inventor who that same year patented the telegraph. Morse first came to Natchitoches, Louisiana, with a brother who was a government surveyor. He married a young Frenchwoman, and they built a house which became one of the great ante-bellum mansions of the Red River country.

Driskill Mountain is south of Arcadia at Latitude 32 degree, 25 minutes North; Longitude 92 degree 54 minutes West. Loggy Bayou flows south from Lake Bistineau and traverses Bienville Parish west of Ringgold before it enters Red River Parish and thereafter joins the Red River.

It was named after the state of Nevada because of the perceived similarity between their physical shapes; the Arkansas county's shape, inverted, roughly follows the same outline as the state's boundary. It is an alcohol prohibition or dry county. Dorcheat Bayou, a 122-mile stream, begins in Nevada County. It flows south into Columbia County and across the border into Webster Parish, Louisiana, where it flows into Lake Bistineau and ultimately Loggy Bayou, forming a continuous passage to the Red River.

The Great Raft probably began forming around 1100-1200 AD. It grew from its upper end, while decaying or washing out at the lower end. This led to its peak length spanning more than in the early 1830s. The raft, at one point, extended for from Loggy Bayou to Carolina Bluffs. The Great Raft formed part of the mythology of the local Caddo tribe and protected them from competing tribes, as well as intermittently flooding land and making it fertile for agriculture.

The summit of Hightower Bald contains a dwarfed red oak forest, with beaked hazel and hawthorn trees in the understory. Hightower Bald's cliffs is home to Hypericum (Blue Ridge St. John's wort), selaginella rupestris (rock spikemoss) and viburnum alnifolium (wild hydrangea). Acer saccharum (Sugar Maple), cladrastis kentukea (yellowwood), Liriodendron tulipifera (tulip tree) and birches grow at Loggy Branch Cove, located on the mountain's northern side. The forest on Hightower Bald's northern slope is described as a broadleaf deciduous cove forest.
