Eilean Sùbhainn is the largest of several small islands in Loch Maree, Wester Ross, Scotland. It is the second largest freshwater island in Scotland after Inchmurrin. Lochan on Eilean Sùbhainn Lying a mile (2 km) northeast of Talladale, the island is partially forested and uninhabited. It rises to 36m (118 feet) and extends to 118 ha (292 acres).
Kalidas Roy (1889–1975) was a poet of the Tagore era of Bengali literature and a teacher. He was born in Karui village of Bardhaman (now Purba Bardhaman district) at West Bengal in a Vaidya (Baidya) family and was a descendant of the Vaishnava poet, Lochan Dash. His father was Jogendranarayan Roy. He wrote in both Arabic and Persian.
Pallab Lochan Das (born December 31, 1978 in Biswanath Chariali, Assam) is a Bharatiya Janata Party politician from Assam. He was elected in Assam Legislative Assembly election in 2011 from (Behali Vidhan Sabha constituency) and 2016 from Rangapara constituency. He is the current Member of Parliament from Tezpur (Lok Sabha constituency). He became a minister in the Sarbananda Sonowal-led government in 2016.
Prasad was born on 15 March 1940 to Ram Lochan Prasad in Mahathapar in Deoria district of Uttar Pradesh. His highest attained education is under matriculation and attended Junior High School in Sauhanag, Deoria. He married Ganesha Devi on 13 May 1955, with whom he had three sons and a daughter. Prasad died on 15 August 2012 at the age of 72.
The most popular route up Meall a' Bhuachaille starts from Loch Morlich. A path goes through the forest, and up onto the moor to the pass between Meall a' Bhuachaille and Creagan Gorm, then up to the summit. Another route is through the Ryvoan Pass, past An Lochan Uaine, to the bothy. From there, a path heads west up Meall a' Bhuachaille.
The Curran shelter was of metal covered with boulders, and had a floor area and it was beside Lochan Buidhe, the highest standing water in Britain. Because it would attract inexperienced walkers, the Mountain Rescue Committee of Scotland and Adam Watson wrote to the Nature Conservancy pointing out the danger of a shelter in this location but nothing was done about the matter.

Binnein Shuas (747 m) is a mountain in the Grampian Mountains of Scotland. It lies between Loch Laggan and Lochan na h-Earba in Inverness-shire. A steep hill of some character, it is a popular spot for rock-climbers as well as hill walkers, for its cliffs include the very difficult 'Ardverikie Wall'. The nearest village is Kinloch Laggan.
Thousands of Naga Sadhus, Sants, Mahatmas, Rishis, Munis and Margdarshak Gurus come to Rajim Kumbh each year for the festival. People start flocking to Rajim a day ahead of the festival, and take part in the special puja performed at midnight. Two temples that are prominently visited by the pilgrims during the kumbh are the Shri Kuleshwar Mahadev and Shri Rajiv Lochan.
Curling House in 2009 before it collapsed. A ruined Curling house still stands below the old manse at the site of an old lochan in 1832 that was used as a curling pond with a brick dam added. It was a brick built rectangular building with a single fireplace and a corrugated iron roof. The dam and building were created in 1853.
Loch Achtriochtan is a small fresh water lochan in Glencoe, fed by the River Coe, which eventually flows into Loch Leven at Invercoe. To the south of the Loch is Achnambeithach Cottage, accessible from the A82 road. To the north, there are the mountains Sgorr nam Fiannaidh and Stob Coire Leith and, to the south, the Three Sisters. Loch Actriochtan sits about three miles from Glencoe village.
Tourist sites in and around Mahasamund include Sirpur, the ancient capital of South Kosal and famous for its Lakshman temple, Buddha Vihar and many archaeological sites. The state government has decided to develop this area as a World Heritage site. Other nearby tourist sites include Kodar Dam, Rajim Kumbh, Rajiv Lochan Temple, and Khallari Temple. The birthplace of Mahaprabhu Vallabhacharya is in nearby Champaran.
The Story of Knockan Crag National Nature Reserve. p.p. 8-9. Bird species found at Knockan Crag include kestrel, raven and ring ouzel, along with song birds such as dunnock, wren, stonechat and meadow pipit. Red- and black-throated divers visit nearby Lochan an Ais during the winter and spring, and so can be observed from the crag. Red deer regularly cross through the site.
It lies on the old track that connected the two farms and it is close to the confluence of the Garrier and Lochridge Burns, suggesting that a small loch or lochan could well have existed here. A wet meadow still exists at this point,Neill, Frank (2006). Oral Communications to Roger S.Ll. The dedication may arise from John Fitzherbert having been Governor of Waterford for 3 years c. 1174 Born in the second half of the 6th century, Finnbar was baptised Lochan, but was later called Fionn Barr or the Fair-Headed One.
View south from near the scene of the November 1971 tragedy (this photograph was taken in winter 1992) On Saturday afternoon Davidson had abandoned the original plan when the conditions became poor and some of the children became distressed. Instead of navigating directly to the Curran shelter she had headed slightly downhill aiming for the Feith Buidhe stream hoping to follow it up to Lochan Buidhe and so reach the shelter beside the lochan (small loch). The burn was completely obliterated by snow so she gave up hope of finding Curran and prepared to bivouac in what, unknown to her, was a major accumulation area for snow. John Duff, leader of the Braemar MRT, later considered this was a serious mistake: "to attempt a winter bivouac, in a storm, on a Cairngorms plateau, is literally a life or death decision, and a last option".

In 1950, a literary society named Chwasa Pasa (Pen Friend) was formed in Kolkata by Prem Bahadur Kansakar and another writer Madan Lochan Singh to bring together writers living in exile. Stuchd an Lochain () is a Munro situated in the Southern Highlands of Scotland. It lies at the western end of Glen Lyon and forms the southern side of Loch an Daimh. The summit sits above a large corrie that contains a small lochan. The primary route to the summit leaves from the eastern end of Loch an Daimh and climbs the ridge to the top of Sron Chona Choirein.
Coire an t-Sneachda (sometimes misspelled as Coire an t'Sneachda) is a glacial cirque or corrie landform in the Cairngorm or Am Monadh Ruadh mountain range in the Grampian Mountains of the Scottish Highlands. The summits of Cairn Lochan (1215m) and Stob Coire an t-Sneachda (1176m) lie above Coire an t-Sneachda's headwall. The Gaelic Coire an t-Sneachda roughly translates to the English language as "Corrie of the Snow".
Three-eyed, Trilochana (त्रिलोचन) Nataraj Image of Shiva Trilochana Ashtami or Trilochanashtami (त्रिलोचन अष्टमी), is a Hindu auspicious day dedicated to Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati celebrated in Odisha and different parts of India. Tri(त्रि) means Three and lochan(लोचन) means Eye. Hence one who having three eyes is called as Trilochan (त्रिलोचन) literally means to Shiva, three-eyed, that is, indication of the present, past and future.
In reaching an alphabetically arranged list, the words "loch" and "lochan" have been ignored as have articles and prepositions in both Gaelic (a', an, an t-, na, na h-, nam, nan etc.) and English (of, the etc.). Those that have been converted to reservoirs for water supply or in association with hydroelectric projects and whose levels have been artificially raised by the construction of dams or barrages are annotated as reservoir.
A rough steep path climbs from the flat corrie bottom traversing the side of Gearr Aonach and gaining height to reach Bealach Dearg. Here rubbly steep rocks and a narrow chute of earthy red scree lead up onto the ridge, with an option of steep broken rocks to the left. Descent is disconcerting, and an alternative is to continue a traverse of the range, returning down by Coire nan Lochan.
St Catherines The castle lies on a small promontory on the northern shores of Loch Fyne, around north-east of Inveraray, Argyll. The castle is in use as a residence. The present castle was built after their previous castle was destroyed following a Plague infection. The old castle, and remnants of McNaughton crannógs, can still be seen on the lochan known as the Dubh Loch at the head of Glen Shira.

Pont 13:National Library of Scotland After the loch the river turns north west, passing through Glencoe village, before flowing into the sea loch of Loch Leven (a salt-water arm of Loch Linnhe) at Invercoe. The area to east of Lochan na Fola is often classed as part of Glen Coe (see for example the location of Glencoe ski centre), but is in fact part of the upper reaches of Glen Etive. The south side of the glen is marked by a succession of distinct peaks: Buachaille Etive Beag at the eastern end, followed by the Three Sisters, shoulders of the Bidean nam Bian massif which are subdivided by Coire Gabhail and Coire nan Lochan. The name Coire Gabhail (corrie of the bounty, or hollow of capture) refers to former times when the corrie was used by members of Clan Macdonald to hide cattle and other livestock, whether their own or stolen from others.
North of Loch Broom lies the largest single section of the county, which takes in Ullapool, the Coigach peninsula and a number of small islands in Enard Bay (most notably Sgeir Mhòr, Fraoachlan, Eilean Mòr, Eilean Mòineseach and Green Island) and also the Summer Isles where Loch Broom meets The Minch. This section also contains a number of lochs, most notably Loch na Totaig, Loch Osgaig, Loch Raa, Loch Vatachan, Fionn Loch, Loch Veyatie, Loch Lurgainn, Loch Bad a' Ghaill, Loch Sionascaig, Lochan Tuath, Loch an Doire Duibh, Loch Doire na h-Airbhe, Loch a Ghille, Loch Buine Mhòire, Loch Call an Uidhean, Loch a' Chroisg, Loch Achall, Loch an Daimh, Loch na Maoile, Loch Ob an Lochain, Clar Lochan and Loch an Eilein. Sources tend to number the tracts added to Cromartyshire at between eight and eleven; however some comprise multiple parcels. In 1807, Alexander Nimmo listed the additions in eight groups with two to six parcels in each.
The area is mountainous, Rois-Bheinn being the highest and most dominant mountain, although Roshven is surrounded by other mountains such as An Stac, Sgurr Na Ba Glaise and Sgurr Dhomhuill Mor. The largest burn that comes through Roshven is the Irin Burn which originates in Lochan na Craoihhe and runs down past Roshven Farm. Its estuary is located on the shore in front of the farm. Roshven has quite a varied and unpredictable climate.

This ridge lies roughly equidistant between two lochs, Loch Affric/Loch Beinn a' Mheadhoin to the south, and the larger Loch Mullardoch to the north. Opposing several lower summits across Loch Mullardoch, the highest being Sgurr na Lapaich at , it dominates the area, being the highest summit in the region. To the north of the summit, there is an impressive glacial corrie that falls half a kilometre to the shores of Corrie Lochan.

Rajim Kumbh is celebrated every year during mid-Feb to March spread over a span of 15 days. Rajim Kumbh attracts thousands of Naga Sadhus, Sants, Mahatmas, Rishis, Munis and Margdarshak Gurus from across India and beyond. The Rajim Kumbh is arranged at the confluence of three rivers in Rajim also known as Triveni Sangam. Within the same festival, an event Rajim Lochan Mahotsav is held between 16 February and 1 March.
Compared to the other Assynt hills, Canisp does not show any distinct topographic qualities. It has a symmetrical profile with two main ridges running northwest and southeast. Its southwestern flank has crags and scree and falls steeply into Glen Canisp, while its northeastern slopes also fall precipitously to the lochan studded moorland. Canisp is less visited than the nearby smaller mountain of Suilven which stands five kilometres to the west and is 116 metres lower in altitude.
It can also be reached from Glen Nevis by following the Pony Track as far as Lochan Meall an t-Suidhe, then descending slightly to the CIC Hut. The route then ascends Càrn Mòr Dearg and continues along the Càrn Mòr Dearg Arête ("CMD Arête") before climbing steeply to the summit of Ben Nevis. By descending via the south east ridge the walker may elect to include Ben Oss (and possibly Beinn Dubhcraig) in the route before returning to the start. If transport can be arranged a reasonably fit hillwalker can traverse all four Munros of the Ben Lui group in a day. Ben Lui stands at the Head of Glen Fyne. A lochan on the slopes of Ben Lui has been identified as the source of Scotland's longest river, the Tay.

Remains from the Maurya, Kushan, Kushanshahs and Gupta periods have been found in Jammu. After 480 CE the area was dominated by the Hephthalites and ruled from Kapisa and Kabul. They were succeeded by the Kushano-Hephthalite dynasty from 565 to 670 CE, then by the Hindu Shahi from 670 to the early 11th century until they were defeated by Ghaznavid. Tradition believes that the city of Jammu was founded by a ruler called Jambu Lochan in remote antiquity.

The "Grove above Lochan Eck" at Little Sparta The "CLAUDI" bridge in the sculpture garden Little Sparta is a garden at Dunsyre in the Pentland Hills near Edinburgh, Scotland, created by artist and poet Ian Hamilton Finlay and his wife Sue Finlay. The Arcadian garden includes concrete poetry in sculptural form, polemic, and philosophical aphorisms, together with sculptures and two temples. Altogether it includes over 275 artworks by the artist, created in collaboration with numerous craftsmen and women.
Pieces of fuselage lie in the bogs and a propeller and an engine can be seen protruding from the lochan. The area is classed as a war grave and visitors are expected not to disturb the wreckage. A memorial plaque, listing those who died, was erected by the families and friends of those killed. The loss of the USAAF 42-95095 was not unique in this region, as other accidents involving military aircraft have taken place nearby.
The Lairig Ghru track winds around a series of pools on the Mar side of the summit. These are thought by many (incorrectly) to be the source of the River Dee. Watson (1975) explains that the Pools of Dee are an invention rather than a pure Anglicisation of the old name Lochan Dubh na Lairige (black tarn of the Lairig). At least one of these pools is reputed to contain trout in spite of these pools having no obvious outflow, nor inflow.
The pass, which lives up to its name connects to the two Munros of Ciste Dhubh and Aonach Meadhoin and has a small lochan lying on it. Am Bàthach is drained by the Allt a’ Chaorainn Bhig and the Allt a’ Chaorainn Mhòir, the two burns which flow down the glens to the east and west of the hill. They flow to Loch Cluanie and reach the east coast of Scotland at the Moray Firth, some distant, via Glenmoriston and Loch Ness.
Coigach () is a peninsula north of Ullapool, in Wester Ross in the Northwest Highlands of Scotland. The area consists of a traditional crofting and fishing community of a couple of hundred houses located between mountain and shore on a peninsula looking over the Summer Isles and the sea. The main settlement is Achiltibuie. Like its northerly neighbour, Assynt in Sutherland, Coigach has mountains which rise sharply from quiet, lochan-studded moorland, and a highly indented rocky coast with many islands, bays and headlands.
It is also a known Shaiva dharma centre. It was also a camping station on the pilgrimage route to other pilgrim centres in the vicinity. The ritual of Kalpwas is performed at Rajim just like it is at Allahabad. The religious congregation at Rajim performs a ceremony known as the 'fifth Kumbh' similar to the traditional 'Punni mela' observed every year at the famous Rajiv Lochan temple located near the holy confluence of the Mahanadi, Pairi and Sondur rivers in Rajim.
There is no record of Panduvamshis after Balarjuna, and their rule in Dakshina Kosala probably ended in the 8th century. Their territory was subsequently ruled by the Nalas, the Banas and the Kalachuris. An inscription of the Nala king Vilasatunga, dated to the 8th century based on palaeographic grounds, records the construction of the Rajiv Lochan temple at Rajim. This suggests that the Nalas (possibly a branch of the earlier Nala dynasty) had conquered the area around present-day Raipur by the 8th century.
Lower Lake and Monastic Village from Brockagh Mountain Kevin, a descendant of one of the ruling families in Leinster, studied as a boy under the care of three holy men, Eoghan, Lochan, and Eanna. During this time, he went to Glendalough. He was to return later, with a small group of monks to found a monastery where the 'two rivers form a confluence'. Kevin's writings discuss his fighting "knights" at Glendalough; scholars today believe this refers to his process of self-examination and his personal temptations.
The higher of these, at , is to the northwest, and is often mistaken for Ben Nevis itself in views from the Fort William area. The other Càrn Dearg () juts out into Glen Nevis on the mountain's southwestern side. A lower hill, Meall an t-Suidhe (), is further west, forming a saddle with Ben Nevis which contains a small loch, Lochan Meall an t-Suidhe. The popular tourist path from Glen Nevis skirts the side of this hill before ascending Ben Nevis's broad western flank.
Here the line of the Laoigh is crossed by the River Avon flowing west–east down from Loch A'an. Ascending again to the route continues north to Bynack Stable, from Fords of Avon. Forest Lodge, Scottish HQ of RSPB Lochan Uaine, west of Bynack Stable The route then passes just south of Loch a' Garbh-choire and passes Ryvoan Bothy to reach Forest Lodge, the headquarters of the RSPB in Scotland. The nearest public road, somewhat west of Forest Lodge, is from Bynack Stable.
The Legend of Shankhadhar (Nepali:शंखधरको कथा”/“शंखधरया बाखँ”) is the first Nepalese feature animation movie also known as TLOS, directed by Nepalese animator Sanyukta Shrestha, produced by Sanyukta Shrestha along with co- producers Shashidhar Manandhar, Lochan Manandhar and Mahanta Shrestha. The animation team: Sanyukta Shrestha, Anjana Shrestha, Niyukta Shrestha, supported by Bigyan Prajapati and Prajnal Kakshepati. The Legend of Shankhadhar showcases the story about Nepalese hero Sankhadhar Saakhwa and how he had started the Nepal Sambat. This movie features the relation between Nepal's cities Kathmandu and Bhaktapur.
The River Croe which emerges from a small lochan called Loch a Glas Choire within the Glas Choire flows north west for 12 kilometres to join the sea at Loch Duich on the west coast. The River Affric rises in Coire nan Eun on the eastern flank of the mountain and flows some 80 kilometres to reach the east coast at the Beauly Firth. The steep southern slopes of the mountain are clothed in the trees of the Glenshiel Forest below the 450 metre contour.
It is an artificial branch of the Jamuna and is said to have been excavated about 200 years ago by one Rajib Lochan Mondol, a rich merchant Zamindar of Belamla. It was dug for the purpose of connecting Jamuna with Tulshiganga. This canal, Kata Ja.munD, as it is known, starts from Sikola, near Khanjanpur and proceeding almost directly south for about eighteen miles, joins the Tul- shiganga a little above Akkelpur. Ja malganj, a rising centre of trade and a railway station, is situated on its bank.
The River Pattack flows into the head of the loch just below the road bridge at Kinloch Laggan. The boundary of the Cairngorms National Park wraps around the head of the loch. A short section of the River Spean connects the natural loch with the reservoir downstream and this river continues westwards below Laggan Dam. Two other substantial watercourses empty into the loch, the Allt Labhrach which drains Lochan na h-Earba which lies southeast of Loch Laggan and Allt Coire Ardair which rises beneath Creag Meagaidh.
Rājīb ( Bangla: রাজীব ) is a popular Indian or Nepalese male name, also spelt Rajeev, Rajive or Rajiv. It is said that the lotus flower (Nelumbo nucifera), though it grows in muddy water, doesn't accumulate the mud particles onto it; such is the quality described as rājīv. Today, in several Indian languages, including Hindi, Telugu, Bengali, Madheshi, Nepali, Assamese, Marathi and Kannada, rājīv is the word for "lotus flower". In the Rāmāyaṇa, Rāma's epithets include Rājīv-Lochan, meaning "one whose eyes are like lotus flowers".
Meanwhile his royal elephant Gajendra was battling for life being caught by a croc named Grah. The elephant in grave pain, requested Lord Vishnu to help save him and it was then that Lord Vishnu came barefoot in rescue. After salvaging the helpless elephant, Lord Vishnu heard the plea of the king and appeared before him. He also blessed King Ratnakar and promised to stay in the earth as ‘Rajim Lochan’, where the pitcher fest started for being another abode of lord Venkateswara or Vishnu.
Outside the Valley, the Manakamana Temple in Gorkha, the Gorkha Durbar, the Palanchok Bhagwati, in Kabhrepalanchok District, the Rani Mahal in Palpa District, the Churiyamai in Makwanpur District, the Dolakha Bhimsensthan in Dolakha District, and the Nuwakot Durbar suffered varying degrees of damage. Historian Prushottam Lochan Shrestha stated, "We have lost most of the monuments that had been designated as World Heritage Sites in Kathmandu, Bhaktapur and Lalitpur District, Nepal. They cannot be restored to their original states." The northeastern parts of India also received major damage.
In 1902 the Tarbolton Curling Club played the Craigie Curling Club at Craigie and won by 74 to 64. Writing in 1926 a local recalled that when ice formed on the lochan the farmers, minister, teacher and neighbours all came to curl and the day's labour was forgotten. The Eglinton Hunt came to Craigie Hill, Cover, Knowes and Glens with all the hunters dressed in red and the brush of the fox if caught was given to the first lady whilst the hounds devoured the corpse.
He seems to have established da new kingdom after the fall of the Sharabhapuriyas, taking advantage of the political chaos in the region. Scholar Lochan Prasad Pandeya identified Indrabala as a grandson of the Mekala Panduvamshi king Bharatabala alias Indra. Relying on this identification, historian V. V. Mirashi theorized that the Uchchhakalpas invaded Mekala, forcing Indrabala to migrate to Kosala, where he first ruled as a Sharabhapuriya feudatory, and later, overthrew his overlords. However, this identification is based solely on similar-sounding names ("Indrabala" and "Bharatabala alias Indra"), and cannot be considered as certain.
A path follows the Lawers Burn towards Lochan nan Cat. For a direct ascent of Meall Garbh the walker may simply climb Northeast from this path shortly after it passes some abandoned shielings. Alternatively, Meall Garbh is more commonly climbed in conjunction with Meall Greigh, with the latter hill being climbed first; the route described previously is thus used for descent. Meall Garbh could also form part of a longer traverse of the Ben Lawers Range, taking another four Munros, finishing at the National Trust for Scotland visitor centre.
Derry Cairngorm has two subsidiary summits listed in the Munro Tables. Creagan a' Choire Etchachan (1108 m) stands 1.5 km north of the main summit and is a fine viewpoint down into the wild Coire Etchachan. Sgurr an Lochan Uaine (983 m), 1.5 km north east, is seen as just a hump near the cliff edge from the main summit but is more distinct when seen from Glen Derry, which it overlooks. The inclusion of Creagan a' Choire Etchachan as a subsidiary top of Derry Cairgorm is peculiar if one analyses it.
Ben Alder (Gaelic: Beinn Eallair) is the highest mountain in the remote area of the Scottish Highlands between Loch Ericht and Glen Spean. The vast summit plateau is home of one of Britain's highest bodies of standing water, Lochan a' Garbh Coire. It is the 25th highest Munro, and due to its remote location, one of the less frequently visited. Situated 19 km from Dalwhinnie and 15 km from Corrour railway station, it is commonly climbed in a two-day expedition, usually taking in its lower neighbour, Beinn Bheoil.
Sgùrr Eilde Mòr is a Scottish mountain situated in the Mamores range, 6 kilometres north-east of Kinlochleven. It is a steep, conical peak of scree and quartzite boulders, capped with a layer of schist. With a height of 1010 m (3314 ft) it is classed as a Munro, so is popular with hillwalkers. It is most commonly climbed from Kinlochleven by way of a stalker's path which leads to a col at Coire an Lochan, and then by either the south or the west ridge - both routes involving an ascent of steep, bouldery terrain.
The family of Raja Gulab Singh is referred to as Jamwal (or Jamuwal). According to some accounts, Raja Kapur Dev, who ruled the area of Jammu around 1560 AD had two sons named Jag Dev and Samail Dev. The two sons ruled from the Bahu and Jammu on the opposite banks of the Tawi River and their descendants came to be called Bahuwals and Jamuwals respectively. The members of the family however claim descent from a legendary Suryavanshi (solar) dynasty ruler Jambu Lochan, who is believed to have founded the city of Jammu in antiquity.
In the 2006, 2001, 1996, 1991 and 1987 state assembly elections Narmada Chandra Roy of RSP won the 37 Kushmandi (SC) assembly seat defeating his nearest rivals, Rajib Lochan Sarkar of Congress, Jitendra Nath Sarkar of Trinamool Congress, Krishna Chandra Sarkar of Congress, Jitendra Nath Sarkar of Congress and Dhirendra Nath Sarkar of Congress respectively. Contests in most years were multi cornered but only winners and runners are being mentioned. Dhirendra Nath Sarkar of Congress defeated Narmada Chandra Roy of RSP in 1982 and Jogendra Nath Roy of RSP in 1977.
This list of lochs in Scotland includes the majority of bodies of standing freshwater named as lochs but only a small selection of the generally smaller, and very numerous, lochans. This list does not currently include the reservoirs of Scotland except where these are modifications of pre-existing lochs and retain the name "loch" or "lochan". It has been estimated that there are at least 31,460 freshwater lochs (including lochans) in Scotland, and more than 7,500 in the Western Isles alone."Botanical survey of Scottish freshwater lochs" SNH Information and Advisory Note Number 4.
Whilst "loch" or "lochan" is by far the most widespread name for bodies of standing water in Scotland, a number of other terms exist. The Lake of Menteith is the only natural body of freshwater called a "lake" in Scotland, (although it is also known as Loch Innis Mo Cholmaig in Gaelic) and there are one or two other man- made "lakes", the Lake of the Hirsel being an example. Numerous lochs are called "water", particularly in the Northern Isles, e.g. Roer Water in Shetland and Heldale Water in Orkney.
Beinn Odhar is usually climbed from the south and there are three popular starting points. The start from the village of Tyndrum goes north via a track which was formerly the main road until the 1930s but now carries the West Highland Way. After two km the track is left and the hill is ascended by the southern slopes passing the old mine and the unnamed lochan on the way. Guide books mention a track as far as the mine on this route but this is not easy to locate.
The Loch she gave birth by is now known as Lochan na Mna, the Loch of the Woman, on the side of Beinn Domhnuill. Major James Stewart is one of the great historical characters of the Covenanting Wars and is the hero of Sir Walter Scott's novel A Legend of Montrose, in which Scott changed James Stewart's name to Allan M'Aulay. This name is actually engraved on the foot of Major Stewart's gravestone in the Stewarts of Ardvorlich old kirk of Dundurn just outside the village of St Fillans on the shores of Loch Earn.
The wide flat glen is well suited for this purpose since from Glen Coe it appears to be a normal v-shaped glen approached only by a steep narrow gorge. Summits in the Bidean nam Bian massif include Stob Coire Sgreamhach, Stob Coire nan Lochan and Aonach Dubh (the third "sister"). By contrast the north side of the glen is a stark wall of mountain, the Aonach Eagach ridge. The ridge is crossed at the eastern end by the Devil's Staircase, an old military road opposite Buachaille Etive Mòr.
In Pakistan Saryara's follows Muslim religion. According to the 2001 Census of India, in Jammu and Kashmir population of Saryara community was 13,327 with almost half of them are living in Bahu Fort, an old town situated along the banks of Jammu Tawi river. [2] The Saryara community observes their annual congregation on 15 Āṣāḍha (as per Hindu calendar) at community's Devsathan, Mahatma Atma Ram Samadhi situated in Bahu Fort, Jammu. Saryara community found its linkage with Raja Bahu Lochan, ruler of the Jammu dynasty of Suryavanshi kings.
According to Lochan Singh Buxi, Basant Panchmi is a Hindu festival adopted by some Indian Muslim Sufis in the 12th century to mark the grave of the Muslim Sufi saint dargah of Nizamuddin Aulia in Delhi and ever since, has been observed by the Chishti order. According to local Sufi traditions, the poet Amir Khusrau saw Hindu women carry yellow flowers to a temple on Basant and they were dressed in yellow, and he adopted this practice, one the Chishti order of Sufi Indian Muslims continue to practice.
Am Basteir () is a mountain in the northern Cuillin range on the Isle of Skye in Scotland. It is high and classed as a Munro. It forms a narrow blade of rock, which bears comparison with the Inaccessible Pinnacle. The easiest route to the summit starts from Sligachan following a path along the left bank of the Allt Dearg Beag (small red burn) for to a small lochan in the Coire a' Bhasteir, then up a gruelling scree slope to the bealach on the main ridge between Sgurr nan Gillean and Am Basteir.

The mountain is one of a range of hills running between Loch Ossian and Loch Pattack and is itself at the convergence of three ridges. Its neighbouring peak to the west is Beinn Eibhinn which extends over a larger area although at it is slightly less high. Between these two peaks is Lochan a'Chàrra Mhòir at the head of Choire a'Chàrra Mhòir. The shortest route of ascent starts from Corrour railway station and passes Loch Ossian youth hostal before going beside the southern shore of Loch Ossian to pass Corrour Lodge and then go up Bealach Dubh along Uisge Labhair.

The player manages to free the two prisoners and send them to sk3tch's house by bus, only to find that only the blogger arrived. After some research, sk3tch discovers than the other inmate was a Lochan spy, who used the blogger's evasion to get into America for an unknown purpose. It is later found than his goal is to commit a terrorist attack on the headquarters of a multinational bank located in Charlotte by using thermite bombs. The spy also hacked the central server of Charlotte's fire and emergency department to delay any help, to maximize the damage and casualties of the attack.
They are linked by a col with a height of 945 metres; there are several small lochans at the lowest point of the broad ridge, the largest of which is called Lochan Beinn a' Chaorainn. Further to the east (five kilometres from the summit) stands the massive mountain of Beinn a' Bhùird to which Beinn a' Chaorainn is linked by the high ground across the Moine Bhealaidh. Drainage from the mountain either goes south to the Derry Burn to eventually reach the sea at Aberdeen via the River Dee or north via Glen Avon and the River Spey to reach the Moray Firth.
Its form has been extensively shaped by glaciation. Research has shown igneous rock from the Devonian period (around 400 million years ago) intrudes into the surrounding metamorphic schists; the intrusions take the form of a series of concentric ring dikes. The innermost of these, known as the Inner Granite, constitutes the southern bulk of the mountain above Lochan Meall an t-Suidhe, and also the neighbouring ridge of Càrn Mòr Dearg; Meall an t-Suidhe forms part of the Outer Granite, which is redder in colour. The summit dome itself, together with the steep northern cliffs, is composed of andesite and basaltic lavas.
Chno Dearg expansive northern flank falls gradually to Glen Spean and the shores of Loch Laggan, the lower part being covered with an extensive forestry plantation. These northern slopes can be boggy at times with numerous small streams, and contain the subsidiary top of Meall Chaorach (815 metres) which is situated 1.5 km from the main summit. On the western side of the hill is Coire an Lochain, a shallow hollow with gentle slopes which contains Lochan Coire an Lochain. The mountain's main ridge goes Southwest from the summit to a col with a height of 923 metres.

The immense cost of upkeep, the poor condition of the castle and death duties took their toll on the family finances; the castle was abandoned in 1925. De-roofed in 1926, the lead being removed and sold,Eglinton Archive, Eglinton Country Park after a house contents sale in December 1925, and progressively ruinous, the building finally came to an undignified end during the Second World War when it was seriously damaged during army training held there. The army also partly destroyed the iron bridge running to the old walled gardens.
Smailholm Tower from the east across the lochan from near Sandyknowe Farm Smailholm Tower is a peel tower at Smailholm, around five miles (8 km) west of Kelso in the Scottish Borders. Its dramatic situation, atop a crag of Lady Hill, commands wide views over the surrounding countryside. The tower is located at grid reference , just west of Sandyknowe farm, and is now a Scheduled Ancient Monument in the care of Historic Environment Scotland. In June, 2007 it was awarded the maximum "five-star" status as a tourist attraction from VisitScotland, a rating bestowed on only eight other sites in Scotland.
Lochindorb in southern Moray Moray consists of a flattish coastal section, containing the main towns, with a hilly interior, bordering onto the Grampian Mountains in the far south. Notable features of the coast are Findhorn Bay and the broad arc of Burghead Bay. The coast around Lossiemouth is somewhat rockier, and contains the Covesea Skerries and Halliman Skerries offshore. The chief lochs are Loch Dallas, Loch Noir, the Lochs of Little Benshalag, Loch of the Cowlatt, Lochanan a' Ghiubhais, Loch an Salich, Loch Trevie, Loch Tutach, Loch Allan, Loch Stuart, Loch Mhic Leòid, Loch Ille Mhòr, Lochan Dubh, Loch nan Stuirteag, Loch an t-Sithein and Lochindorb.
However, reference to the latter as loughs (lower case initial), rather than as lakes, inlets and so on, is unusual. Some lochs in Southern Scotland have a Brythonic rather than Goidelic etymology, such as Loch Ryan where the Gaelic loch has replaced a Cumbric equivalent of Welsh llwch. The same is perhaps the case for water bodies in Northern England named with 'Low' or 'Lough' or otherwise it represents a borrowing of the Brythonic word into the Northumbrian dialect of Old English. Although there is no strict size definition, a small loch is often known as a lochan (so spelled also in Scottish Gaelic; in Irish it is spelled lochán).
Starting in the 14th century with Chandidas (1339-1399),banglapedia:chandidas the Padavali poets included Govindadas, Jnanadas, Maladhar Basu, Sheikh Faizullah, Syed Sultan, Balaram Das, Lochan Das, Basudev Ghosh, Murari Gupta, and Narahari Das. The movement flowered in the 16th century with poets like he also wrote poems in the Brajabuli literary canon influenced by Vidyapati, and is often called "the second Vidyapati". More than others in the movement, Govindadas was influenced by the work of Maithali poet Vidyapati, and he travelled to Vidyapati's village of Bishphi in Madhubani to collect his works. His poetic oeuvre is preserved in two texts, the Sangita-Madhava (songs of Krishna) and Gitamrta (nectar songs).
The eastern slopes of Ben Ledi are owned by Forestry and Land Scotland, and form part of the Queen Elizabeth Forest Park. A constructed path leads from a car park on the A84 road just south of Loch Lubnaig to a fence at about 270M where a rough track continues to the summit via the south shoulder, a distance of just over 3 km. An alternative route following Stank Glen leaves the shores of Loch Lubnaig about 1.5 km north of the start of the main route, reaching the summit ridge near Lochan nan Corp. The two routes may be combined to give a circular walk of about 9 km.
The single name Lochan na h-Earba is applied to two lochs to the south of Loch Laggan in Highland, Scotland, close to the historic boundary between Lochaber and Badenoch. It is thought that the two lochs once formed a single loch, but became separated by the build up alluvial deposits from the Moy Burn (), which now joins the short watercourse that connects the two lochs. Ordnance Survey maps of the area show a single name printed across both lochs. They occupy a narrow glen running southwest to northeast, and roughly parallel with Loch Laggan, from which they are separated by the Binnein Shuas range of hills.
He worked as a painter and decorator, saving up to go on climbing expeditions in the Alps. By eighteen he had climbed the Eiger and the Matterhorn. He went on to put up many new routes in Britain including Scansor on Stob Coire nan Lochan (a subsidiary peak of Bidean nam Bian) and The Cumbrian on the Esk Buttress of Scafell Pike. He made the first ascent of East Pillar on Mount Asgard on Baffin Island in 1972; of Pik Lenin in the Pamirs by its south-east spur route in 1974; and of Point Innominata (a subsidiary peak of Aguja Saint Exupery) in Patagonia also in 1974.
However, there is inscriptional evidence such as the ancient Gangadhara inscription from about 424, states Meister, that towering temples existed before this time and these were possibly made from more perishable material. These temples have not survived. Examples of early major North Indian temples that have survived after the Udayagiri Caves in Madhya Pradesh include those at Tigawa,Michell (1990), 192 Deogarh, Parvati Temple, Nachna (465),Michael Meister (1987), Hindu Temple, in The Encyclopedia of Religion, editor: Mircea Eliade, Volume 14, Macmillan, , page 370 Bhitargaon, the largest Gupta brick temple to survive,Michell (1990), 157; Michell (1988), 96 Lakshman Brick Temple, Sirpur (600-625 CE); Rajiv Lochan temple, Rajim (7th- century).
Stob a' Bhruaich Leith (941 metres) lies 1.5 kilometres further along the ridge which then drops down gradually towards Glen Etive. The fourth Munro Top Sròn nan Giubhas (976 metres) lies 700 metres north of the main summit along a ridge which then swings north west and descends for five kilometres to Glen Etive.Database of British and Irish Hills; The Munros and Tops 1891-1997. Coire Dhearbhadh which stands on the mountain’s eastern flank is ringed by sheer cliffs and contains the small lochan, Coirein Lochain.
The River Shira, just north of Eilean an Eagail River Shira (Siara / Abhainn Siara in Gaelic) is the river that runs through Glen Shira, originating from a dammed loch named Lochan Sron-Mor to the north. The river includes a few waterfalls and islands, including Eilean an Eagail (The Island of Fear). It eventually flows into a dubh loch, where the Ancient Clan MacNaghten castle and crannogs used to be, and then by Stuart Liddells house and Through Gearr Abhainn into Loch Shira and Loch Fyne. The river lends its name to the glen it runs through and the sea loch it drains into, which in turn lends its name to .
Assynt ( or ) is a sparsely populated area in the south-west of Sutherland, lying north of Ullapool on the west coast of Scotland. Assynt is known for its landscape and its remarkable mountains, which have led to the area, along with neighbouring Coigach, being designated as the Assynt-Coigach National Scenic Area, one of 40 such areas in Scotland. The western part of Assynt has many distinctively shaped mountains, including Quinag, Canisp, Suilven and Ben More Assynt, that rise steeply from the surrounding "cnoc and lochan" scenery. These can often appear higher than their actual height would indicate due to their steep sides and the contrast with the moorland from which they rise.
Arkle () is a mountain in Sutherland, situated in the far north-west corner of the Scottish Highlands. Like its sister Foinaven, the mountain is made up of glistening white Cambrian quartzite, laid down around 530 million years ago on an uneven basement of much older Lewisian gneiss. The quartzite, and the Torridonian sandstone which makes up many of the other mountains in the area, have been dissected by rivers and glaciers, leaving a series of isolated peaks, such as Suilven, Quinag and Stac Pollaidh, standing above the "knock and lochan" landscape of small hills and lakes that is typical of the Lewisian gneiss. 'Ben Arkle' was the subject of a painting by Charles, Prince of Wales.

In 1976 there were three rail-mounted cranes at the quay, two had been built by Alexander Chaplin & Co, Glasgow, and one by Smith Rodley.RCAHMS Retrieved : 2012-11-18 A considerable number of railway freight sidings at one time ran down to the harbour quays and the nearby chemical works in the time of the Glasgow and South Western Railway and later the London, Midland and Scottish railway. The harbour is no longer connected with the national rail network. In 1832 a plan of Irvine shows the presence of a shipbuilding yard, and features such as the small lochan known as 'The Sluices', lime kiln, lime mill, a single pier, and a flagstaff.
Bidean nam Bian, lying to the south of Glen Coe, Highland, Scotland, is the highest point in the former county of Argyll. It is a complex mountain, with many ridges and subsidiary peaks, one of which, Stob Coire Sgreamhach, is classified as a separate Munro. The most noticeable features of Bidean nam Bian are the famous Three Sisters of Glen Coe, three steeply-sided ridges that extend north into the Glen. Two of the sisters, Gearr Aonach (Short Ridge) and Aonach Dubh (Black Ridge) converge at Stob Coire nan Lochan, a 1,115 m (3,658 feet) subsidiary peak of Bidean nam Bian that lies about 1 km to the northeast of the actual summit.
Meall a' Chrasgaidh is made up of three distinct ridges, the NW and NE ridges both descend towards the valley of the River Droma and are used as ascent routes from the main roads to the north. The south ridge connects to the strategically important 819 col which is unnamed on maps, the col is boggy and has a small lochan lying within it. The col connects the mountain to the two highest peaks of the Fannichs, Sgurr nan Clach Geala and Sgurr Mòr. The only steep slopes on the mountain are on its eastern side where rocky flanks descend to Loch a’ Mhadaidh, these slopes are moderately angled and give a scrambling route from the loch.
Over their 23-year collaboration Ian Hamilton Finlay and Sue Finlay established Little Sparta as an internationally renowned composition, a combination of avant- garden experiment, Scottish wit and whimsy and the English landscape garden tradition. It comprised the front garden, the most intimate space, with many examples of Finlay’s ‘garden poems’; a woodland garden, extending around a small pool; and a series of paths, areas and sculptures in the wilder hillside landscape. Finlay conceived the garden as composed around inter-connected pools, burns and a small loch, Lochan Eck. Finlay later extended the garden in the 1990s, creating a small English Parkland in the former paddock. A walled garden, ‘Hortus Conclusus’, was added after his death.
A fort once stood on the summit of Craigie Hill however it has been completely destroyed by the whinstone quarry workings. A crannog was discovered, mostly formed from stones, in a boggy depression, once a lochan, to the south-west' of Craigie Castle in the 19th century together with a wooden oar. A Roman fort stood in a prominent location on the slopes of Barnweil Hill and near by a Norman motte has left a rectangular ditch with an earth mound facing to the west. In the Carnell woods stands a mound known as the Judgement Seat which may have been the moot hill where the barony court of Carnell once met.

They were trained by him in editing, production and marketing operations for the best planned effort in South Asia including "Balak" magazine and innumerable valuable creative projects. He was a catalyst to channel the energy released by the nationalist creative talents for freedom in the country, through transformation into literature, informative inspiring books for the masses: 100 essential books for rural libraries: the Almanac, inspiring books on Indian civilization, efforts of think tank for renaissance in India, were mass-produced. Ramlochan was regularly playing host to saints, artists, poets, philosophers, social workers, educationalists, policy planners, and bureaucrats of the region.
It should not be confused with another Munro named Stob Bàn situated in the Mamores. Stob Bàn lies south of the main Grey Corries ridge, connected to it and the highest mountain of the group, Stob Choire Claurigh, by an unnamed col with a height of 800 metres, this col has a small lochan also unnamed lying within it. Stob Bàn’s conical shape is formed by three distinct ridges. The north eastern ridge drops to the valley of the Allt na Lairige which flows southerly into Loch Treig. The south western ridge is gentle in gradient dropping down to a col at 750 metres before rising to the subsidiary summit of Meall a’ Bhuirich (841 metres) which stands two kilometres from the main summit.
Sgùrr nan Clach Geala stands on a north-south ridge in the western part of the Fannichs along with two other Munros, Meall a' Chrasgaidh and Sgùrr nan Each. From a distance the mountain’s north ridge can look difficult to traverse with its craggy buttresses which can give mild scrambling if the edge of the corrie is followed, however there are no real difficulties and any problems can be easily by-passed. This northern ridge drops down to a col with a height of 819 metres called Am Biachdaich (The Feeding Place), named because of the col's rich pastures where deer often feed. From the col the Munros of Meall a' Chrasgaidh and Sgùrr Mòr can be climbed, a small lochan lies on the col.

Access from Glen Coe, via a wooded ravine between Beinn Fhada and Gearr Aonach, seen over River Coe Coire Gabhail runs southwestwards between the steeply-sided ridges of two of "The Three Sisters"; on its left, Beinn Fhada (Long Hill) is the eastmost sister, and the central sister Gearr Aonach (Short Ridge) on the right of the corrie forms its western side. The Glen Coe Skyline route takes in the technical Curved Ridge on Buachaille Etive Mòr, then heads west over Stob Coire Sgreamhach before an out-and-back section to Stob Coire nan Lochan. It then drops down to the valley near Loch Achtriochtan before climbing steeply up to the Aonach Eagach, a rocky ridge which is traversed from west to east before the route joins the West Highland Way to the finish. There are steep slopes to the east which go down to the Bealach Easain, a col with a height of 548 metres which connects to the adjacent Munro of Sròn a' Choire Ghairbh, the col contains a small lochan at its highest point. All drainage from Ben Tee reaches the Great Glen but goes to both the west and east coast of Scotland. Rainfall on the northern part of the hill goes via Glen Garry and the River Garry to reach Loch Oich from where it flows north east through Loch Ness to reach the east coast at the Moray Firth. 97 The path climbs steeply to the saddle by Lochan Meall an t-Suidhe (colloquially known as the 'Halfway Lake') at 570 m, then ascends the remaining 700 metres up the stony west flank of Ben Nevis in a series of zig-zags. The most popular starting point for the direct ascent of Stob Choire Claurigh is Corriechoille farm (grid reference ) at the end of the minor road from Spean Bridge. Slioch () is a mountain in the Scottish Highlands situated in Wester Ross, eight kilometres north of the village of Kinlochewe. Slioch reaches a height of 981 metres (3218 feet) and towers above the south east end of Loch Maree to give one of the best known and most photographed sights (from the A832 road) in the Highlands. VisitScotland, the Scottish national tourist agency, has used video footage of Slioch in its television advertisements. The mountain is composed of Torridonian sandstone on a base of Lewisian Gneiss and has steep crags on three sides and allows easy access for the walker only from the south east where the large open corrie of Coire na Sleaghaich has two ridges on its flanks which the walker can use. The mountain's name comes from the Gaelic word “sleagh” and means “the spear” and this only becomes obvious when Slioch is viewed from Lochan Fada to the north-east, from here the subsidiary top of Sgurr an Tuill Bhain (Peak of the White Hollow) (933 metres) dominates as a slender peak and gives the mountain its name.
One may continue from Coire Gabhail (the hidden valley), reaching the main ridge by means of a zig- zag path that climbs up the flank of Gearr Aonach to cliffs at the head of the corrie, and a patch of scree at the bealach up to the ridge. From here, turn left to climb Stob Coire Sgreamhach which lies only about 0.5 km to the southeast, or right up along the cliff edge towards the summit of Bidean. Other routes include ascending Stob Coire nan Lochan and then using the connecting ridge to reach the main summit, or ascending via the Allt Coire nam Beitheach and following either branch of this burn to reach the main ridge either side of the subsidiary peak of Stob Coire nam Beith, which lies about a kilometre to the west of the main summit. All of the above routes start from Glen Coe and go through the corries running between the Three Sisters, and may thus be combined to allow a traverse of the mountain.
