Girih are elaborate interlacing patterns formed of five standardized shapes. The style is used in Persian Islamic architecture and also in decorative woodwork. Girih designs are traditionally made in different media including cut brickwork, stucco, and mosaic faience tilework. Mont lone yay paw, served with shredded coconut, is a popular festive dish served in Myanmar during Thingyan. In Indonesia, an adapted version, called Wedang Ronde (Wedang in Javanese means beverage, and Ronde means round ball), is a popular food eaten during cold temperatures. The round colored balls of glutinous rice can be filled with crushed peanuts and sugar, or left plain and is served in a sweetened, mild ginger broth often boiled in fragrant pandan leaves. It is built on top of an active waterfall that flows beneath the house. The fireplace hearth in the living room integrates boulders found on the site and upon which the house was built—a ledge rock which protrudes up to a foot through the living room floor was left in place to link the outside with the inside. Wright had initially intended that the ledge be cut flush with the floor but this had been one of the family's favorite sunning spots, so Kaufmann suggested that it be left as it was. The stone floors are waxed while the hearth is left plain, giving the impression of dry rocks protruding from a stream.

Gas Company Tower is a 52-story, class-A office skyscraper on Bunker Hill in downtown Los Angeles, California. Located on the north side of Fifth Street between Olive Street and Grand Avenue, across from the Biltmore Hotel, the building serves as the headquarters for the Southern California Gas Company, which vacated its previous offices on Eighth- and Flower-streets in 1991, and is home to the Los Angeles offices of Arent Fox and Sidley Austin. In 2014, Deloitte became the first tenant to have their logo affixed to the peak of the building which had been left plain since the building was completed. This giant accounting firm moved from nearby Two California Plaza, where it had been since 2000.

A New York style bagel is always boiled in water that has had barley malt added, which gives a bagel its signature taste, texture, and leathery skin. The bagels are then traditionally topped with sesame seeds, poppy seeds, dried onion or garlic, or everything bagel seasoning, or are left plain or brushed with an egg wash. On both navy and army caps, the chinstrap is affixed to the cap via two small buttons, one roughly over each ear; these buttons are miniature versions of the buttons on the service dress tunic, and as such bear an RCN or regimental device. Typically formed from a solid block of paulownia wood, range from to tall, are either decorated, lacquered black or left plain, and usually feature small bells tied to the underside of the shoe's slope (or, for young girls, in the hollow underneath the shoe's central block). The worn by apprentice geisha are generally taller than most, being to tall, and have either no finish or, in the summer months, a plain black lacquered finish. The worn by young girls and women are generally shorter, and often feature multicoloured, lacquered designs on the sides of the shoe.

He married Theodosia, daughter of Charles Tyndall of Bristol, in 1862 and the marriage, with a subsequent legacy, made him extremely wealthy. Buying Llandough Castle near Cowbridge in Glamorgan, he served as High Sheriff of Glamorgan in 1873 and was also a justice of the peace and a deputy lieutenant for the county. Stacey's wealth enabled him to become a generous philanthropist and benefactor, and he put up the money and contributed to the design of the stained glass in the great west window of King's College Chapel, Cambridge in 1879, which had been left plain when the chapel's other stained-glass windows were constructed in the 16th century. Among the more famous Evangeliaria may be mentioned the following: the portion of an Evangeliarium from Sinope (6th century: in the Bibliothèque Nationale, Paris); the Syrian codices of Rabbula (586, at Florence) and Etschmiadzin (miniatures of the 6th century); the Evangeliarium of Gregory I (at Cambridge) in Latin uncials; the Irish-Continental Evangeliaria of St. Gall (about 800); the Carolingian Evangeliarium of Godescalc (about 782, in the Bibliothèque Nationale, Paris); the Ada Codex (9th century, at Trier); the Evangeliaria of Echternach (10th century, at Gotha), and of the Abbess Uta (about 1002, at Munich). Valuable Evangeliaria were carefully treasured, and when used in the offices were placed on a strip of cloth or on a cushion. The back leaf of the binding was usually left plain, but the front cover was enriched with all the skill of the goldsmith. One of the most ancient bindings or covers known is that offered by the Lombard Queen Theodelinda (600) to the cathedral of Monza.
