Jenkins regularly took "reverse sabbatical" leaves of absence from the professional work of his law and management consulting to accept short term academic posts at Howard University's Law School, The University of the District of Columbia David A. Clarke School of Law, Johns Hopkins University's Institute for Policy Studies and State University of New York at Old Westbury. In 2001, he then was asked by his fellow UDC trustees to serve as the president of the University of the District of Columbia for an interim period assisting in it winning long sought accreditations for both its Nursing and Business schools.

West interned for J. Aron, the commodities trading unit of Goldman Sachs, in 1997 and joined them full-time as a natural gas futures trader in 1998. In his 19 years at Goldman, he has taken four leaves-of-absence: to race in the 2000 Eco Challenge, to attempt the North Face of Mount Everest in 2001, and to join the Marines in Iraq in 2003 and 2006–2007. At Goldman, West greatly expanded the physical footprint of natural gas trading, founded the firm's veteran's network, and co-founded its veteran internship program. He was named a partner in 2014.

As chancellor, however, Chandler attempted to manage the day-to-day operations of all five branches of The Colleges and, by doing so, began to alienate the presidents who served under him. The presidents of The College, RPI, and the Norfolk Division were originally to have more autonomy under the new system than they had had in the past. However, Chandler did not allow that to happen. For example, Chandler required Lewis Webb, president of the Norfolk Division, to seek his approval in matters of hiring faculty and staff, granting leaves of absence, reviewing scholarly publications, and budget requests.

Northville's Valve Plant was the first of Henry Ford's "Village Industries" factories. The Village industries were designed to bring the economic advantages of industrial jobs to rural communities through the establishment of decentralized, non-disruptive manufacturing plants. In particular, Ford intended the Village Industries to stabilize the income of farmers who would otherwise have little winter income, and he gave his workers leaves of absence to work their farms. Over the span of the 1920s and 1930s, Ford established over thirty more Village Industries factories, making everything from copper welding rods to lamp assemblies to wheels.

There, he became a teacher of Teresa Jabłonowska (a descendant of Stanisław Jan Jabłonowski) and established himself as a successful portrait painter. When the Kościuszko Uprising broke out in 1794, he was able to leave the battle zone through the mediation of Kościuszko, whose portrait he had painted. In 1799, he was appointed a Professor at the Dresden Academy of Fine Arts. He took two leaves of absence while there; one to Gotha in 1804, where he decorated a bedroom for Duke Augustus and, from 1808 to 1810 to Rome as a member of the Accademia di San Luca.

Upon graduating from Rutgers, his "low draft number" motivated him to join the United States Air Force in September 1974. While serving, he "sometimes took leaves of absence to work on village projects in Uganda and elsewhere." After initial pilot training, Gration trained as an instructor, and instructed trainees on both the T-38 and F-5, reaching the rank of Captain. In 1980, he worked for two years as an F-5 instructor pilot with the Kenya Air Force, following which he was selected as a White House Fellow and spent a year assisting Dr. Hans Mark, the Deputy Administrator of NASA.

Woods began as an instructor in the LDS seminaries in Provo and Orem. He later served as an Institute of Religion instructor and director in both Southern California and in Boulder, Colorado. From 1993 to 1998 he was a professor of religion at Ricks College, and since 1998 he has been a professor of religion at Brigham Young University. While at BYU Woods has taken leaves of absence, once in 2001 to be a visiting professor at the University of Missouri at St. Louis, and in the summers of 2004, 2005 and 2006 to be a visiting professor at Brigham Young University-Hawaii.

While in New York City, he met his wife, Judith Neulander, who had obtained a PhD in Political Science from Harvard University. After returning to Jerusalem, Yuval started working as a journalist for Ha’aretz and later for Ma’ariv, where he worked for 38 years until retiring in 2005 from his position as Deputy Editor. He also served as the Israeli correspondent for The Washington Post and The Boston Globe. During his years as a journalist, he took two leaves of absence in order to serve in the Israeli Foreign Office, mainly on the subject of economic warfare.

Mewshaw taught creative writing at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, and subsequently was named Director of Creative writing at the University of Texas at Austin. Taking leaves of absence every other year from this post, Mewshaw based himself in Rome, Italy, and continued traveling throughout Europe and North Africa. While Mewshaw researched his third novel The Toll (1974) in Marrakesh, Morocco, his wife Linda was hired as Lindsay Wagner's stand-in on the set of Robert Wise's film Two People. Mewshaw's experience of that shoot was the jumping-off point for his fifth novel Land Without Shadow (1979).

At Michigan Law, Kauper taught property, antitrust, unfair trade practices, trusts and estates, and other courses.Courses Taught by: Thomas E. Kauper, University of Michigan Law School. Kauper twice took leaves of absence from Michigan Law faculty to serve in U.S. Department of Justice posts: first as deputy assistant attorney general in the Office of Legal Counsel from 1969 to 1971, where he was deputy to William H. Matheson was also involved in efforts to expand legal aid in Utah, establishing a Pro Bono Initiative at the S.J. Quinney College of Law and serving on the Board of Trustees of the Legal Aid Society of Salt Lake. During his time as a law professor, Matheson contributed to various other institutions during leaves of absence. From 1988 to 1989, Matheson served as the Deputy County Attorney for Salt Lake County. From 1989 to 1990, Matheson was a visiting professor in the Frank Stanton Chair on the First Amendment at Harvard University's John F. Kennedy School of Government.

Choi Kilsong, 韓国の米軍慰安婦はなぜ生まれたのか (Tokyo: Hatoshuppan, 2014), 141. Some of Mr. Park's other frequent responsibilities included shopping for daily goods, collecting and distributing rations, maintaining his car, and attending air raid watches. Mr. Park was in constant contact with the Japanese military authorities in order to submit reports on his business and to obtain entry permits, employment permits, and travel papers for the comfort women and himself. According to the diary, the comfort women received leaves of absence if they became pregnant, were examined regularly for sexually transmitted diseases, and were given good quality medical care.

Having already taken two leaves of absence, Sajjan had to leave the Vancouver Police Department for his third tour of duty in 2010, during which he was assigned as a Special Assistant to then Major-General James L. Terry, the commander of American forces in Afghanistan. Yang argued that although it was not embodied in institutions such as churches, religion was nonetheless an important diffuse force in Chinese society. During the 1960s, Yang began to use leaves of absence for a series of extended visits to universities in Hong Kong and other parts of Asia to strengthen their instruction in sociology.In the late 1970s, following the end of the Cultural Revolution, Fei Xiaotong invited Yang to return to China to give seminars in the newly rehabilitated discipline of sociology, but Fei was then criticized for wanting to "bring capitalism back to China" and the invitation was cancelled. Yang did return a few years later.

After taking several leaves of absence, he was finally granted an early retirement with a pension in 1935. He remained in Germany until 1938, when after the Kristallnacht riots it became clear that the situation for even assimilated Jews such as himself was no longer tenable. After a brief stay in Oxford, he accepted a lectureship at the University of California, Berkeley in 1939 and departed for the United States. After several years, Kantorowicz was finally able to secure a permanent professorship, but in 1950, he famously resigned in protest when the UC Regents demanded that all continuing faculty sign a loyalty oath disavowing affiliation with any politically subversive movements.

James Edward Banks (born July 16, 1979) is an American military veteran and politician who is the U.S. Representative for . A Republican, he previously served as a member of the Indiana Senate. Banks was first elected to serve in the state senate for the 17th district in 2010, and upon military deployment to Afghanistan, he took a leave of absence from the state senate since September 2014. Invoking an Indiana state law which allows state and local officeholders to take leaves of absence during active duty military service, Banks was temporarily replaced by his wife, Amanda Banks, who held the office for the senate's 2015 legislative session.

He advanced to Associate Professor in 1973, was granted tenure in 1974, and received full professorship in 1979. Kurjack spent his summers, leaves of absence, and sabbaticals carrying out research on the Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico as Coordinador of the “Proyecto Atlas Arqueológico de Yucatán, Centro Regional De Yucatán, Instituto Nacional de Antropología e Historia, Mérida, Yucatán, México. He served as Coordinador of the “Reconociemento del Valle, Proyecto Copán, del Secretaría de Estado en Despacho de Cultura, Turismo y Información,” from December, 1977 to July, 1978. To facilitate foreign area research, the Middle American Research Institute of Tulane University, the Precolumbian Art Research Institute of San Francisco, and the Philippine National Museum granted Kurjack honorary positions in their organizations.

Goulston was born in Boston, MA, to Irving Goulston, who rose from bookkeeper to controller and CFO at United Liquors, and Ruth Goulston, who was a homemaker and shop owner. He skipped a grade and graduated early from Newton South High School. He attended the University of Vermont from 1965–66 and then transferred to the University of California, Berkeley, where he received his B.A. in 1969 with a major in Zoology. From there, he went on to a year of graduate school in Zoology at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst from 1969-1970 and then on to medical school at Boston University School of Medicine (BUSM), where he took two non-consecutive medical leaves of absence.

Founded in the 1920s, the Senior Huskies have played in several leagues over the years: the Hanover- Tache Hockey League (1953-2003), Manitoba Eastern Hockey League (1969-1977), the Central Amateur Senior Hockey League (1977-1985) and currently the Carillon Hockey League. In 1978-79, the Huskies captured the Allan Cup Western Canadian title before losing in the national finals. Steinbach Senior Huskies (2009-2010)The Senior Huskies joined the Carillon Senior Hockey League (CSHL) in 2004 and played in every season, except for leaves of absence taken for the 2006-07, 2017-18, and 2018-19 seasons. They have captured three league championships and also one Manitoba Provincial Senior 'A' championship (2009–10).

Former Las Piñas Representative Cynthia Villar, wife of Nacionalista party president and senator Manny Villar, announced they are supporting Yulo's candidacy. The two candidates submitted their certificates of candidacies on May 16; Yulo went to the provincial elections office in the morning accompanied by his family, including Himamaylan Nayor Bascon, where they handed out lollipops, while Mirasol submitted his certificate on the afternoon with the UNA officials. The two filed leaves of absence from their posts until the election period is over. In order to counter Mirasol's logistical advantage, Yulo will rely on his "lollipop campaign," where he distributes lollipops on the campaign trail, which had worked for him in previous elections.

Commissioned into the Royal Engineers and commencing his service in India, between 1884 and 1897 Swayne made a number of expeditions to Africa to make exploratory surveys for the British authorities. First travelling to Somaliland in January 1885 to hunt, Swayne made seventeen trips to Somaliland on leaves of absence from the Indian Army to conduct surveys, hunt and explore, making various notes on the local wildlife and inhabitants. In August 1885, the Indian Government sent Swayne to conduct a reconnaissance of Somaliland, a task that lasted until July 1887, the notes and maps he made during this period proved invaluable during the subsequent Somaliland Campaign. Later Swayne served with the Imperial British East Africa Company.

Samuel Frederick Coffman (11 June 1872 - 28 June 1954) was a Canadian minister, writer and pacifist. In 1918 he helped organize the Non-Resistant Relief Organization (NRRO), involving all Amish, Mennonite, and Brethren-in- Christ groups then in Ontario. Coffman represented these peace groups in lobbying the Canadian government for exemption from military service during World War I. "He received a sympathetic hearing from many public officials largely because of his own judicious attitude and the general trust he put in the government." Coffman assisted in obtaining releases for imprisoned Amish and Brethren in Christ members, and as a more permanent solution he later arranged that conscientious objectors be given indefinite leaves of absence from active duty.

While serving as a senior legislative aide to Congressman Tim Roemer, Dvorak took leaves of absence to manage Roemer's successful re-election campaigns in 1998 against Dan Holtz, and in 2000 against Chris Chocola. In 2002, Dvorak filed as a candidate for the open State House seat that had been held since 1986 by his father, Michael A. Dvorak, who had left the Legislature to be elected St. Joseph County Prosecutor. Ryan Dvorak won the 2002 election, defeating Republican Carl Baxmeyer by a 55%-45% margin. Dvorak was unopposed for re- election in 2004. In 2006, he defeated Democrat Dorothy Snyder in the Primary election by a margin of 93%-7% and was unopposed in the general election.

It has been claimed that several public organisations and companies have been told to forcefully send their employees to the rallies in order to increase turnout. For the opening of Hakkari Yüksekova Airport where both President Erdoğan and Prime Minister Davutoğlu were in attendance, the Governor of Hakkari issued a statement revoking all leaves of absence for the day and threatened any public workers who did not attend with legal action. Controversy arose when Erdoğan and the Patriotic Party wanted to conduct a rally at the same time and at the same place in Adana. The issue was taken to the Supreme Electoral Council, which decided that both could conduct their rallies at different times on the same day.

In Chile, some undergraduate majors such as engineering and geology are designed as 6-year programs. However, in practice it is not uncommon for students to complete such programs over the course of 10 years, while studying full-time without leaves of absence. This is in part due to a strict grading system where the highest grade of a typical class can be as low as 60% (C-) and the high frequency of protests and strikes organized by student federations and teacher unions, such as the 2011–13 Chilean student protests. There are studies that suggest a direct correlation between reduced social mobility and differences unique to the Chilean higher education system.

Elias Lönnrot with his family in the early 1860s He began writing about the early Finnish language in 1827 and began collecting folk tales from rural people about that time. In 1831, the Finnish Literature Society was founded, and Lönnrot, being one of the founder members, received financial support from the society for his collecting efforts. Lönnrot went on extended leaves of absence from his doctor's office; he toured the countryside of Finland, Sapmi (Lapland), and nearby portions of Russian Karelia. This led to a series of books: Kantele, 1829–1831 (the kantele is a Finnish traditional instrument); Kalevala, 1835–1836 (the "old" Kalevala); Kanteletar, 1840; Sananlaskuja, 1842 (Proverbs); an expanded second edition of Kalevala, 1849 (the "new" Kalevala).

USERRA also provides that while an individual is performing military service, he or she is deemed to be on a furlough or leave of absence and is entitled to the non-seniority rights and benefits accorded other individuals on comparable types of non-military leaves of absence. Health and pension plan coverage for service members is provided for by USERRA. Individuals performing military duty of more than 30 days may elect to continue employer sponsored health care for up to 24 months; however, they may be required to pay up to 102 percent of the full premium. For military service of less than 31 days, health care coverage is provided as if the service member had remained employed.

Though generally acting with the Country party, he was sometimes seen as a Court Tory. He took several leaves of absence during the Parliament. Returned again at the 1695 English general election, he refused to sign the Association in February 1696 and voted against fixing the price of guineas at 22s in March. He voted against the attainder of Sir John Fenwick on 25 November 1696. In 1975, he graduated from the Faculty of Law at the University of Toronto, articled for prominent criminal defence lawyer, Robert J. Carter, Q.C., in 1975-6, and was called to the Ontario Bar in 1977. After serving with the Office of the Ombudsman as a legal officer for two years, Stewart joined the Downtown Toronto Crown Attorney’s Office as an Assistant Crown Attorney in 1979, handling criminal trials at all levels of court. Since 1985, Stewart has served in the Crown Law Office – Criminal, where his practice expanded to include appeals before the Court of Appeal for Ontario and the Supreme Court of Canada. On leaves of absence from his office, he has worked at the UN international criminal tribunals.

England, 1944. After an attempt on the life of British high commander General Sir Lawrence MacKenzie-Smith (Danny Kaye) by German intelligence, all military camps in England are sealed off, resulting in leaves of absence being revoked. Ernie Williams (Kaye), a most reluctant American soldier, hypochondriac and talented mimic, and his fellow conscript Joseph Praeger (Jesse White) are thus left trapped in an Allied army camp in southeast England just before they can return to the States. In order to relieve his frustration, Ernie impersonates MacKenzie during dinner in the mess hall; a British officer entering the building falls for his disguise, sparking the idea in Praeger to use Ernie as a double to get them out of the camp.

Vijayan (Sreenivasan), the village school teacher, believes that his degree in economics will make him to succeed in the business ventures he undertakes. Taking long leaves of absence from work, he goes around with his schemes, all of which turn out to be downright failures. The movie opens with a light portrayal of the misery of his benevolent wife Shyamala (Sangita) and their two daughters, with Vijayan away on his latest venture -- an attempt to shoot a short ad film under influence of his friend. It ends, predictably, with Vijayan taking to his heels when it is apparent that he has never seen a film being shot in his life before and thought he could just wing it without experience.

He appeared in several Hollywood motion pictures in specialized dancing roles. The circular road circuits he had constructed carefully weave through the valley opening up views, framing vantage points, and providing surprises to the visitor. Curtis' design was motivated by his objective to take advantage of and exploit the natural landscape in the first instance, and then locate plantings in functional or species family associations. A later curator, Frederick Sydney Banfield, observed of the planting design structure established by Curtis that: "There is little systematic arrangement even in the botanical sections, the principal aim having been to arrange the plants in such a way as to enhance the natural beauty of the Gardens". On short leaves of absence he made collections of both living and herbarium specimens at Penang, Burma and neighbouring coastal areas.

In 1670 he went to Ireland as Lord Lieutenant, holding the office for two years, with a few months' leaves of absence. He was considered pro-Catholic, and to favor Archbishop Peter Talbot to the extent of allowing him to use a silver plate to add to the magnificence of a religious celebration, and expressing a desire to see a high mass at Christ Church. Port and Thorne (1986a) As a Member, he was an infrequent voter and is not known to have made any speeches; he also applied for leaves of absence in 1808 and 1812. When he did vote, it was generally with the Government, voting, for instance, in 1810 on the side of the Government over an inquiry into the British Walcheren Campaign against the Dutch in 1809.Port and Thorne (1986b) In the borough, Welby remained opposed to the imposition of Manners and, shocked at Rutland's decision to sell him land in return for hunting rights, he barred Rutland from hunting on the Welby estates.Port and Thorne (1986b) At the 1812 election, Welby was able to gain the support of enough of the borough's freemen and land-owners in the corporation, and secured a compromise with Manners, allowing for him to be re-elected.

Ch'ing-k'un Yang (; 1911 – 10 January 1999), better known as C. K. Yang, was an American sociologist who pioneered the application of sociological theory to the study of China. He was known for his contributions to the study of Chinese religion and his argument that religion in China was "diffuse" and present in many aspects rather than being institutionalized in churches. Yang was born in Guangzhou and educated at Yenching University, where he became interested in the study of sociology, and taught for much of his career at the University of Pittsburgh, where he trained American and Chinese sociologists and used periodic leaves of absence to build sociology programs in Hong Kong and the People's Republic of China. In 2007, friends and colleagues published a festschrift in his memory, Social Change in Contemporary China: C. K. Yang and the Concept of Institutional Diffusion.

In recognition of the fact that his affliction was duty-related, he was in 1812 appointed to the Naval Knights of Windsor, with a lifetime grant of care in Windsor Castle. This position demanded he attend church service twice daily as his only duty in return for room and board, but the quietness of such a life harmonized so poorly with his active habits and keen interests, physically making him ill, that he requested multiple leaves of absence on health grounds, first to study medicine and literature at the University of Edinburgh, then to go abroad on a Grand Tour from 1819 to 1821 when he journeyed through France, Italy, Switzerland, the parts of Germany bordering on the Rhine, Belgium and the Netherlands. On his return he published The Narrative of a Journey through France, etc. (London, 1822).

Cooper's office published the court's findings on May 5, exonerating him on the first two specifications of neglect of duty, but finding him guilty of the third—"failing in the details of his attack to make arrangements essential to his success." McLaws was sentenced to 60 days without rank or command, but Cooper overturned the verdict and sentence, citing fatal flaws in the procedures of the court, ordering McLaws to return to duty with his division. However, on May 18, McLaws was assigned by the War Department to the Defenses of Savannah in the Department of South Carolina, Georgia, and Florida.Wert, pp. 362–64. McLaws was bitter about his fate, claiming that Longstreet had used him as a scapegoat for the failed Knoxville Campaign.

While Talmadge’s primary medium is painting, and she also designs elaborate interior environments for her work. Her 2018 New York solo show 1076 Madison (at 56 HENRY, NY) consisted of eight paintings of the venerable Frank E. Campbell funeral home, which since 1898 has laid to rest prominent New Yorkers from Rudolph Valentino to Aaliyah. The artist’s mournful pointillist exteriors of the landmark building were displayed in a gallery redesigned to mimic the funeral chapel’s interior, with green silk walls, crown moldings, and gray pile carpet. The exhibition later traveled to Frank E. Campell Funeral Chapel. In Talmadge's Four Courtroom Outfits of Anna Delvey (Soft Opening, London, 2019), a purpose-built robotic arm hidden behind a painted five-panel dressing screen tosses items of clothing worn during infamous con-artist Anna Delvey’s courtroom appearances in an endless cycle of cartoon “quick changes.” Her 2017 debut solo show, Leaves of Absence (56 HENRY), consisted of life-sized photographs of meticulously styled sets depicting celebrity rehabs alongside an architectural installation reconstructing a fragment of an imagined room from McLean Hospital.

As was the case for every noble family, the French Revolution diminished the family's circumstances considerably. After Napoléon's defeat at Waterloo, a Bourbon, Louis XVIII, the brother of Louis XVI, was restored to power, and in 1814 Vigny enrolled in one of the privileged aristocratic companies of the Maison du Roi (king's guard) as a second lieutenant. After taking several leaves of absence he abandoned military life in 1827, having already published his first poem Le Bal in 1820 and an ambitious narrative poem Éloa in 1824 on the popular romantic theme of the redemption of Satan. Prolonging successive leaves from the army, he settled in Paris with his young English bride Lydia Bunbury, whom he married in Pau in 1825. He collected his recent works in January 1826 in Poèmes antiques et modernes. Three months later he published the first important historical novel in French, Cinq-Mars, based on the life of Louis XIII's favorite Henri Coiffier de Ruzé, Marquis of Cinq-Mars, who conspired against the Cardinal de Richelieu.
