Leas Hall comprises the Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten classrooms, while McLean Hall contains 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade classrooms. The Abramson Lower School has two 3rd grade classrooms, science rooms, and music classrooms. There are currently 347 students enrolled in the Lower School (as of the 2019-20 school year), and a student-to-teacher ratio of 14:1.

Circular 10/70 was an attempt by Margaret Thatcher as Secretary of State for Education and Science in 1970 to reverse the effects of Circular 10/65 (sometimes called the Crosland Circular since it was issued by Anthony Crosland as Secretary for Education under Wilson in 1965) and Circular 10/66. The first circular recommended to LEAs to begin the process of conversion to full comprehensive education, in line with Labour government's wishes on the transition to a national comprehensive system. The second circular said that no funding would be given for new non-comprehensive schools. The City of London has no state schools, just two independent schools. Haringey and Kensington and Chelsea have the most people that pass no GCSEs. At A-level, the average results for LEAs are disappointing compared to their good GCSE results. Although Kingston upon Thames gets the best GCSE results in England, at A-level it is not even above average.
By 1965 the Tripartite System was on the way out. 65 local education authorities (LEAs) had plans to switch to comprehensive schools, and another 55 were considering it. Over the next few years this grassroots change would be reinforced by central government policy. Labour had won the 1964 election, and Anthony Crosland became Secretary of State for Education in January 1965.

He was elected to Free State Seanad in 1922 for 9 years and served until his death in office on 22 April 1931. He was elected Leas-Chathaoirleach (Deputy chairman) of the Seanad on 12 December 1928.

Radnor was made a deputy lieutenant of Wiltshire on 9 August 1839 and a vice-lieutenant of the county on 17 August 1839. In 1828, he built a toll road providing an easy route between Folkestone harbour and Sandgate. The original toll house remains within the Lower Leas Coastal Park.
Local education authorities (LEAs) are the local councils in England and Wales that are responsible for education within their jurisdiction. The term is used to identify which council (district or county) is locally responsible for education in a system with several layers of local government. Local education authorities are not usually ad hoc or standalone authorities, although the former Inner London Education Authority was one example of this.
In inner London, private schools always get the best results and are larger in number. Benjamin B. Leas House, also known as Shirleysburg Female Seminary, Fort Shirley Site, and "The Rock," is a historic home located at Shirleysburg in Huntingdon County, Pennsylvania. It was built in 1850, and is a 2 1/2-story, rectangular red brick building, five-bays wide and measuring 41 feet by 32 feet. It has a rear kitchen / servant's quarters wing. The house is in the Greek Revival style.
An election to Kerry County Council took place on 23 May 2014 as part of that year's Irish local elections. 33 councillors were elected from four local electoral areas (LEAs) by PR-STV voting for a five-year term of office. This is a reduction of LEA and an increase in 6 seats compared to 2009. In addition Killarney Town Council, Listowel Town Council and Tralee Town Council were all abolished.
By 1970, 115 LEAs had had their reorganisation plans approved. Thirteen had had theirs rejected, and a further ten had defied the Labour government and refused to submit any plans at all. Initially the move generated little opposition. It was portrayed foremost as an effort to raise standards in secondary moderns, and Prime Minister Harold Wilson had promised that grammar schools would only be closed "over my dead body".

Patrick Hogan (10 October 1885 – 24 January 1969) was an Irish Labour Party politician who served as Ceann Comhairle of Dáil Éireann from 1951 to 1967 and Leas-Cheann Comhairle of Dáil Éireann from 1927 to 1928. He served as a Teachta Dála (TD) for the Clare constituency from 1923 to 1938 and 1943 to 1969. He was a Senator for the Labour Panel from 1938 to 1943.
She served as Leas-Chathaoirleach (Deputy Speaker) of the Seanad from 1973 to 1977. She was defeated at the 1977 Seanad election. In 1984 she was appointed to the Labour Court, first as deputy chairperson and subsequently as chairperson, a position she held from 1994 until 1998. Tonbridge Grammar School for Girls opened on 24 January 1905 in the Technical Institute in Avebury Avenue Tonbridge with just 19 girls as pupils on the top floor of Tonbridge Library. The headmistress and only teacher was Miss Taylor who introduced the school motto, Courage and Honour. The school moved to its current site in Deakin Leas in 1913, after Tonbridge Library became too small to accommodate the growing numbers.
He was re-elected to the Dáil in 1973 and 1977, but was defeated at the 1981 general election. He was re-elected at the February 1982 election, but when the 23rd Dáil was dissolved later that year, he did not contest the November 1982 election and was succeeded by his nephew John Browne. He also served as Leas-Cheann Comhairle (Deputy Chairman) of Dáil Éireann from 1977 to 1981.
Catherine Connolly (born 12 July 1957) is an Irish Independent politician who has served as the Leas-Cheann Comhairle of Dáil Éireann since July 2020. She has been a Teachta Dála (TD) for the Galway West constituency since 2016. She previously served as Chair of the Committee on the Irish Language, the Gaeltacht and the Islands from 2016 to 2020 and Mayor of Galway from 2004 to 2005.
In the years following the end of the Second World War, local education authorities (LEAs) paid student tuition fees and provided non-mature students with a maintenance grant. Under the Education Act 1962 a national mandatory award of student maintenance grant was established, payable by the LEAs to students on most full-time courses. In 1980, the level of grant increased from £380 to £1,430. As the university population rose during the 1980s the sums paid to universities became linked to their performance and efficiency, and by the mid-1990s funding per student had dropped by 40% since the mid-1970s, while numbers of full-time students had reached around 2,000,000 (around a third of the age group), up from around 1,300,000. In 1989 the levels of maintenance grants were frozen at £2,265 – which since 1985 had been means tested – but a system of student loans was introduced to provide for additional funding.
The election for Leas-Cheann Comhairle (deputy "chair" or "speaker" of Dáil Éireann) was scheduled for early that morning, but was deferred. Taoiseach Varadkar asked Denis Naughten to temporarily fill the role to avert a possible constitutional crisis, with the previous occupant Pat "the Cope" Gallagher having lost his seat in the February general election and the need for a Leas-Cheann Comhairle being regarded as critical should Ceann Comhairle Seán Ó Fearghaíl become incapacitated. Naughten, a former Fine Gael politician who left the party to sit as an independent, had run against Ó Fearghaíl during the earlier election to fill the main office. After passing through the Dáil, the bill passed without a vote the following day (27 March) through all stages in the Seanad (in its final sitting before counting got underway in the Seanad election which had to follow the February general election), and President Higgins signed the bill into law the same day.
Henley has the oldest football team Henley Town F.C. recognised by the Oxfordshire Football Association, they play at The Triangle ground. Henley also has a rugby union club Henley Hawks which play at the Dry Leas ground, a hockey club Henley Hockey Club which play at Jubilee Park, and Henley Cricket Club which has played at Brakspear Ground since 1886. a new club in Henley was started in September 2016 called Henley Lions FC.
The song achieved extensive radio play, but suffered from distribution problems. In 1980, the Leas decided to continue the label to release other artists' recordings, and Slade's manager Chas Chandler joined the team during this time. Frank Lea handled the label's business and management, while Jim was considered the "musical man" and Chandler the "money man". A leaden vessel filled with tools dating from prior to the Norman Conquest has been found. Thirteen inhabitants were recorded at the time of the Domesday Book. The population reached its peak of 214 in 1851. Listed as Westle in around 1045, Weslai in the Domesday Book and Westle Waterles in 1285, the name "Westley" means "westerly wood or clearing", and the "waterless" comes from the Old English "water + leas" meaning "wet clearings".
Funding is also allocated for teaching English to the parents and communities of LEP children. The amount of funding each state receives is determined by formula derived from the number of LEP and immigrant students in that state. The number of LEP students in each state is determined using information provided by the US census as well as yearly state-issued surveys. The grant is divided into subgrants made available to LEAs within the state.

North East LEAs at A-level are improving, but produce results below those of other areas of England. Sunderland performed the best in 2011, with consistently good results, followed by Hartlepool and Darlington, which are above the national average, and unrepresentative of most areas in the North East. Darlington's Queen Elizabeth Sixth Form College is one of the highest-rated colleges in England. The area's Catholic schools all do reasonably well at A level.
The Greenwich Judgement of 1990 declared as unlawful a decision by Greenwich Local Education Authority (LEA) to give priority in school admissions to its own residents over residents from neighbouring LEAs, clarifying that applicants must be treated equally, whether they reside inside or outside the authority. It has been associated with a decline in the use of catchment areas as a means of managing school admissions, and an associated increase in cross- border mobility.
The leading national artist Robert Ballagh chaired the organisation for ten years and spoke on its behalf in the media. It has made various submissions to Irish government bodies on such matters as Seanad Éireann reform and other constitutional issues. The future TDs Mary Lou McDonald (currently, 2019, President of Sinn Féin) and Finian McGrath (currently, 2019. a Government junior Minister) both served as Leas- Chathaoirleach (Vice-Chair) in the organisation in the mid-90s.
In 1964, preparations began to raise the school leaving age to 16. These were delayed in 1968, and eventually the decision was taken in 1971 that the new upper age limit be enforced from 1 September 1972 onwards. He was re-elected at the next three general elections, before losing his seat at the 1943 general election to the Clann na Talmhan candidate Patrick O'Driscoll. He served as Leas-Cheann Comhairle from May 1939 to May 1943. He was re-elected a year later, at the 1944 general election, unseating his Fine Gael colleague Timothy O'Donovan. The constituency was reduced to a 3-seater at the 1948 general election, and O'Neill was not re-elected.

Melville Castle lies to the north east. The Gaelic form is Leas Bhaid, meaning the "clump at the fort." Lasswade lies within the Edinburgh Green Belt.
Thomas J. Welby is a Local Councillor who was the Mayor of County Galway in 2012-13. Welby served as Mayor of County Galway for the term 2012-2013. He was first elected as a county councillor on 11 June 2004, a year to the day after his father, Tom Welby, died. Welby Sr. served as a Fianna Fáil county councillor for seventeen years, rising to the position of Leas- Chathaoirleach/Vice-Chairperson of the council.
Adrian Lydon (born 1976) is a reporter/producer for CNN, he previously worked as television reporter for the Nine O'Clock News on Raidió Teilifís Éireann (RTÉ). Lydon was responsible for the first media reports on the Leas Cross scandal and the Bank of Ireland stolen laptop story. A native of Oughterard, County Galway, he was first a newsreader on Galway Bay FM and moved to 2006. He has been an RTÉ news reporter since January 2008.

If working-class pupils passed a scholarship examination, then their fees would be paid for them by the Local Education Authority (LEA). One- quarter of places in most secondary schools would be reserved for scholarship pupils. Bright working-class children were therefore provided with the opportunity to climb "the educational ladder", while for those pupils who failed the scholarship exam, some LEAs had "Central Schools" which provided a practically based curriculum for children between the ages of 11-15.

From 1977 to 1981 he was Cathaoirleach (chairman) of the 14th Seanad (1981–1982) and as Leas-Chathaoirleach (Deputy chairman) in the 15th Seanad. Séamus Dolan was a fluent Irish speaker (Gaeilgóir) and dedicated much of his time to promoting the language, as well as teaching its value and importance in today's world. He was one of the few native Irish speakers in county Cavan and raised his family through the medium. Séamus Dolan died on 10 August 2010.
Rory O'Hanlon (born 7 February 1934) is a former Irish Fianna Fáil politician who served as Ceann Comhairle of Dáil Éireann from 2002 to 2007, Leas-Cheann Comhairle of Dáil Éireann from 1997 to 2002, Minister for the Environment from 1991 to 1992, Minister for Health from 1987 to 1991 and Minister of State for Social Welfare Claims in 1982. He served as a Teachta Dála (TD) for the Cavan–Monaghan constituency from 1977 to 2011.

He was appointed a Judge of the High Court in 2004. He was chairman of the Referendum Commission for the second Lisbon Treaty referendum in 2009. As a High Court judge he gave a ruling, on the Leas Cross nursing home case against RTÉ, that the public interest justified the broadcasting of material that otherwise would have been protected by the right to privacy. He frequently presided over the Commercial Court during his time at the High Court.
Denis Francis Jones (12 October 1906 – 6 May 1987) was an Irish Fine Gael politician. A school teacher by profession, he was first elected to Dáil Éireann as a Fine Gael Teachta Dála (TD) for the Limerick West constituency at the 1957 general election. He was re-elected at each subsequent general election until he retired from politics at the 1977 general election. He served as Leas-Cheann Comhairle (Deputy Chairman) of the Dáil from 1967 to 1977.
During the Circular's drafting, there was a debate in Whitehall over how strongly worded the Circular ought to be. Secondary education was not under the direct control of the DES, and all changes had to be implemented by the local authorities. Those firmly in favour of the comprehensive system believed that the Circular should convert all schools into comprehensives. Those preferring to preserve the balance of power between the DES and LEAs thought that the word should be "request".
Those authorities have locally administered selection tests. The Circular also requested consultation between LEAs and the partially state-funded direct grant grammar schools on their participation in a comprehensive system, but little movement occurred. The 1970 report of the Public Schools Commission chaired by David Donnison recommended that the schools choose between becoming voluntary aided comprehensives and full independence. This was finally put into effect by the Direct Grant Grammar Schools (Cessation of Grant) Regulations 1975.

A LEA which has a wide range of powers but whose ability is restricted geographically, typically to an area which is only part of a country, is typically referred to as local police or territorial police. Other LEAs have a jurisdiction defined by the type of laws they enforce or assist in enforcing. For example, Interpol does not work with political, military, religious, or racial matters. A LEA's jurisdiction usually also includes the governing bodies they support, and the LEA itself.
The Barton Arboretum & Nature Preserve is a arboretum and nature preserve located in Medford Township. The arboretum is situated on the grounds of Medford Leas , a not-for-profit, Quaker-related community for adults age 55 and older. The arboretum is on the edge of the Pine Barrens, and includes landscaped grounds, courtyard gardens, wildflower meadows, natural woodlands and wetlands, as well as tree collections. It was created with the assistance of the Morris Arboretum of the University of Pennsylvania.
Either side of the toll road, land was cultivated and grazed. Old field boundaries are still used in the park, and the 'Cow Path' is a reminder of the drove route from The Leas. Radnor served as governor of the French Hospital at the time of its move from Finsbury to the new and imposing hospital building in Victoria Park, Hackney, designed by Robert Lewis Roumieu. Successive Earls of Radnor were governors of the hospital from the eighteenth century to 2015.
Other scenes shot in Kent included the Shepherd Neame Brewery in Faversham, and scenes of the Larkin's beach holiday, filmed in Folkestone, including a backdrop of the Leas Lift. Mlle. Dupont is met by the Larkin's at Folkestone Harbour after her channel crossing. Little filming was done inside the farmhouse, the interiors having been shot in a studio at Yorkshire Television. Scenes shot in the former Wennington School near Wetherby in Yorkshire which stood in for Bluff Hall were included.

City of London residents may send their children to schools in neighbouring local education authorities (LEAs). Children who are permanent residents of the City of London are eligible for transfer to the City of London Academy, Southwark, a state-funded secondary school sponsored by the City of London located in Bermondsey. The Gateway Building, Buckinghamshire New University, High Wycombe. Education in Buckinghamshire is governed by two Local Education Authorities. Buckinghamshire Council is one of the few remaining LEAs still using the tripartite system, albeit with some revisions such as the abolition of secondary technical schools. It has a completely selective education system: pupils transfer either to a grammar school or to a secondary modern school or free school depending on how they perform in the Eleven-Plus exam and on their preferences.
At sixteen he started working as a clerk, later employed by Kjær og Isdahl (Kjær and Isdahl), a substantial shipping business, where he was quickly promoted office manager. In 1914 he bought his first steam ship and in 1915 he started his own shipping company. In 1915–16 he bought and sold ships for 30 million NKr (approximately US$4.6 million). In 1917 he sold six of his companies to Bjørnstad og Brækhus, then founded Leas Assuranseseslskab A/S (Lea's Insurance Company Inc.).
In the films Timmy has no such history, probably in an effort to make him more sympathetic to the audience. Production notes reveal that a sequel called Confessions from the Clink was considered by the production team, but the idea was abandoned by February, 1974. Part of the humour of the film derives from a situation based on class stratification in the United Kingdom. The Leas are positioned at the bottom of the working class, barely above the criminal underclass, while the Radletts are upper middle class.
It was a more efficient operation all-round. Other metropolitan LEAs such as Manchester (another poorly performing LEA) did something similar around this time. The spin off, and lucky accident, from this arrangement is that the two sixth form colleges have fallen on their feet and produce good results because they are populated with people who have few routine distractions and are consenting to a desire to learn. The sixth form colleges are the remnants of the type of education offered at the former grammar schools.
Publicly funded secondary schools in Leicestershire are comprehensive. The schools are segregated by age in some areas to ages 10–14 (middle schools), and 14–16 (upper schools) or 14–18 (upper schools which also provide sixth form education). The schools, compared with other LEAs, have large numbers on the roll with school enrolment often 2000 and more. For Melton and Blaby districts, although there is division by middle and upper schools, there is only one upper school in either district, giving no choice of school.
It was formed in the 1970s. Following Circular 10/65 in 1965, issued by the Wilson Labour government (grammar school-educated Wilson sent both his sons to the independent University College School), LEAs across the UK dismantled most grammar schools. However, many comprehensive areas have sixth form colleges (for many there is no other choice of school after 16) which are often in former grammar schools and usually have equally high standards as grammar schools at A level. The United Kingdom Independence Party publicly supports selective education.
The Folkestone Dramatic & Music Club was formed in 1902, performing at the Woodward Institute. This was later changed to the Folkestone Operatic Society in 1913 performing at the Pleasure Gardens Theatre. The society closed for the duration of World War I (1914–1918), then continued to present plays up until World War II (1939–1945) when it closed once more. In 1947 Hythe was added to the name and the society held productions at the Leas Pavilion Theatre, Folkestone Town Hall, and Chichester Hall in Sandgate.
Because the BEA funding was provided in the form of grants, most of the financial clout lay with local and state education agencies (LEAs and SEAs). However, the federal government limited the reach of these funds in a few significant ways. To begin with, from a simple framing standpoint, the original 1968 BEA did not include any mention of instruction in or maintenance of a student's native language, limiting the potential impact of the act. From a financial perspective, the BEA was also limited.

In the non-metropolitan counties the county councils were the education authorities,Redcliffe-Maud & Wood, B., English Local Government Reformed, (1974) as they were throughout Wales. In 1986, with the abolition of the Greater London Council, a directly elected Inner London Education Authority was formed. This however only existed until 1990, when the twelve inner London boroughs assumed responsibility for education. In 1989, under the Education Reform Act 1988, the LEAs lost responsibility for higher education, with all polytechnics and colleges of higher education becoming independent corporations.
He was unanimously elected Ceann Comhairle of Dáil Éireann on 26 June 1997, serving for the entire 28th Dáil. When the 29th Dáil assembled after the 2002 general election he was replaced by Rory O'Hanlon, but was appointed as Leas-Cheann Comhairle (Deputy Chairman) for the 29th Dáil. Pattison was also a member of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe. In September 2005, he announced he would retire at the following general election, and his nephew Eoin Pattison unsuccessfully sought the nomination.
They were predominantly day schools, though 10 of them took a small proportion of boarders. Their fees were about 15% lower than other direct grant grammars, and they tended to take a much higher proportion of LEA-funded pupils. In 1968, 40 of these schools took over 80% of their pupils from their LEAs; the average proportion was 86%. They also tended to be more socially mixed, with 37% of their pupils from managerial and professional homes and 16% children of semi-skilled or unskilled workers.
Denis O'Donovan (born 23 July 1955) is an Irish Fianna Fáil politician who served as a Senator for the Agricultural Panel since April 2011. He previously served as Cathaoirleach of Seanad Éireann from 2016 to 2020 and Leas- Chathaoirleach of Seanad Éireann from 2011 to 2016. He served as a Teachta Dála (TD) for the Cork South-West constituency from 2002 to 2007. A native of Bantry, County Cork, he was elected to Cork County Council in 1985, and re- elected in 1991 and 1999.
Fionán Lynch (; 17 March 1889 – 3 June 1966) was an Irish revolutionary, barrister, politician and judge who served as a Judge of the Circuit Court from 1944 to 1959, Leas-Cheann Comhairle of Dáil Éireann from 1938 to 1939, Minister for Lands and Fisheries from 1930 to 1932, Minister for Fisheries from 1922 to 1930, Minister without portfolio from August 1922 to December 1922 and Minister for Education from April 1922 to August 1922. He served as a Teachta Dála (TD) from 1918 to 1944.

St. Dominic's School in Hambledon, Surrey, England is a co-educational day school, one of the oldest special schools in the United Kingdom. It specialises in the education of children with various disabilities, such as autism whilst integrating specialised support, including an onsite speech and language, Occupational and physio therapy team. After his release from Brentford, Phillips dropped into non- League football and reunited with a number of former Brentford teammates at Southern League Premier Division club Hillingdon Borough during the 1973 off- season. A bottom-place finish saw Hillingdon relegated in Phillips' first season with the club, but promotion straight back to the Premier Division was achieved in the 1974–75 season. He departed the Leas Stadium in 1978 and received a testimonial. Phillips was offered to join a club in Pretoria, South Africa, but turned the offer down.

Glyndon still maintains much of the charm it had as a Victorian summer village over 100 years ago. The arrival of the Western Maryland Rail Road in 1860 promoted the early location and growth of Glyndon. The area itself was beautiful with green expanses and tall trees; an elevation above sea level of almost 700 feet provided delightful summers and mild winters. Prior to 1871, Dr. Charles A. Leas, the first health officer of Baltimore City and a former American consul, made several purchases of land in what is now Glyndon.

A LEA can be responsible for enforcing secular law or religious law, for example Sharia or Halakha. The significant majority of LEAs around the world are secular, their governing bodies separating religious matters from the governance of their subjects. Religious law enforcement agencies, for example Saudi Arabia’s Mutaween, exist where full separation of government and religious doctrine has not occurred, and are generally referred to as police agencies, typically religious police, because their primary responsibility is for social order within their jurisdiction and the relevant social order being highly codified as laws.
In 1995, O'Hanlon became chairman of the Fianna Fáil parliamentary party before being elected Leas-Cheann Comhairle (Deputy Chairman) of Dáil Éireann in 1997. Following the 2002 general election, O'Hanlon became Ceann Comhairle of Dáil Éireann. In this position, he was required to remain neutral and, as such, he was no longer classed as a representative of any political party. He was an active chairman of the Dáil; however, on occasion, he was criticised, most notably by Labour's Pat Rabbitte, for allegedly stifling debate and being overly protective of the government.
Marino died in August 1981 whilst returning to his South London home from a tournament in Folkestone. He had been booked to wrestle Big Jim Harris at the town's Leas Cliff Hall but after being adjudged unable to perform was taken to Ashford Hospital where he was treated for a swollen tongue. Marino discharged himself the same night and left with fellow wrestler Mal Sanders but suffered from a convulsive attack as they travelled on the M20 motorway. He died by the roadside and was afterwards revealed to have been suffering from leukemia.
Despite being behind Fine Gael in terms of first preference vote share Fianna Fáil emerged as the joint largest party on the Council after the elections winning 8 seats in all. The party secured 3 seats in Comeragh, 2 in Dungarvan-Lismore and 1 in each of the Waterford city LEAs where the party had been traditionally weak after 2004 and 2009. Fine Gael's best result was in Dungarvan-Lismore where the party returned 3 seats. As the results indicate several of the party's sitting councillors lost their seats across the City and County.
John Joseph O'Kelly (; known as Sceilg;A pen name he took which refers to the island of Sceilig Mhichíl, which he could see from his childhood home on Valentia Island. 7 July 1872 – 26 March 1957) was an Irish republican politician, author and publisher who served as President of Sinn Féin from 1926 to 1931, Minister for Education from 1921 to 1922, Minister for Irish from 1920 to 1921 and Leas-Cheann Comhairle of Dáil Éireann from 1919 to 1921. He served as a Teachta Dála from 1918 to 1921 and 1922 to 1923.
He was appointed editor of the influential "Catholic Bulletin".Recent book on the Bulletin In the 1918 general election he was elected as a Sinn Féin MP for Louth by 255 votes in what was the closest contest in Ireland in that election. The closeness of the contest was due to the strong AOH organisation in the county that campaigned for outgoing North Galway MP Richard Hazleton of the Irish Parliamentary Party. O'Kelly took his seat in Dáil Éireann as a Sinn Féin TD and was Leas-Cheann Comhairle (Deputy chairman) from 1919–21.
Brendan Howlin (born 9 May 1956) is an Irish Labour Party politician who has been a Teachta Dála (TD) for the Wexford constituency since 1987. He previously served as Leader of the Labour Party from 2016 to 2020, Minister for Public Expenditure and Reform from 2011 to 2016, Leas-Cheann Comhairle from 2007 to 2011, Deputy Leader of the Labour Party from 1997 to 2002, Minister for the Environment from 1994 to 1997 and Minister for Health from 1993 to 1994. He was a Senator from 1983 to 1987, after being nominated by the Taoiseach.

King Edward VII and his mistress Alice Keppel (great-grandmother of Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall) regularly enjoyed the luxury (and discretion) of the Grand Hotel on the Leas. Eamon Everall, artist/educator and founder member of the Stuckism art movement, attended Harvey Grammar School and Folkestone School of Art and still maintains a base here. Actress June Brown still has two homes in the town.

Séamus Pattison (19 April 1936 – 4 February 2018) was an Irish Labour Party politician who served as Leas-Cheann Comhairle of Dáil Éireann from 2002 to 2007, Ceann Comhairle of Dáil Éireann from 1997 to 2002, Minister of State for Social Welfare from 1983 to 1987 and Father of the Dáil from 1995 to 2007. He served as a Teachta Dála (TD) for the Carlow–Kilkenny constituency from 1961 to 2007. He was a Member of the European Parliament (MEP) for the Leinster constituency from 1981 to 1983.

The complex was official opened on the July 18, 1982 by Jim Tunney, Leas Ceann Comhairle of Dáil Éireann, for a match against League of Ireland side Bohemians. The club has competed regularly since then in the Leinster Senior League and pending their performance in this league, enters the FAI Cup at the early stages. The Elbe near Gorleben The small town is directly on the left bank of the Elbe river, about 20 metres above sea level. The Elbe river landscape spreads out to the east, north and northwest, protected as the Lower Saxon Elbe Valley Leas biosphere reserve. To the south, a large area of pine forest adjoins it, the Gartower Tannen. This is the largest contiguous privately owned forest in Germany, owned by Graf Bernstorff of Gartow, and is on a large hilly area which grew out of wind-borne sand in a periglacial process.
There are a small number of districts where results are significantly below average including the unitary authorities of Portsmouth (one of the lowest LEAs in the country), the Isle of Wight, Southampton, Brighton, and the districts of Oxford in Oxfordshire, Adur in West Sussex and Hastings in East Sussex. In 1923 he became Labour Party Chief Whip and served as Leas-Cheann Comhairle between 1928 and 1932. In 1931 Morrissey went against his own party and supported the Cosgrave Government's measures against the Irish Republican Army, thus ending his membership of the Labour Party. In spite of this he was re-elected as an Independent in 1932 before joining Cumann na nGaedheal and later Fine Gael. Following the 1948 general election, Fine Gael leader Richard Mulcahy proposed the idea of forming a coalition government and ousting Fianna Fáil after 16 years in government.
A local man (although originally from Scotland) and pub landlord, Peter Allan took over the Marsden Grotto and developed it with money allegedly won at the races. His father was the gamekeeper of Sir Hedworth Williamson. Allan restored and extended the caves into a 15-room home including a ballroom and kitchen, turning Jack's house into an inn. In 1848 John Clay, who later became the first mayor of the County Borough of South Shields, bought The Leas and claimed that the land gave him rights to The Grotto.
Upon release in July 1965, the Circular used the word "request", but in practice, the DES used its financial muscle to weaken opposition to the change. Local authorities relied on the central government to pay for the large number of new schools made necessary by the post-World War II baby boom. In Circular 10/66, the DES refused to pay for any new secondary school unless it was a comprehensive. As a result, a number of LEAs otherwise supporting the tripartite system, such as Bromley and Surrey, felt forced to go comprehensive.
Some schools (almost all Catholic) became fully state-funded, while the majority became independent fee-paying schools. He is a son of Michael Kitt Snr, who was a TD for various Galway constituencies (1948–1951 and 1957–1975), and a brother of Tom Kitt, a former TD for Dublin South, and of Áine Brady, a former TD for Kildare North. His brother-in-law Gerry Brady also served as TD for Kildare in 1982. On 31 March 2011, he was appointed as the Leas-Cheann Comhairle of Dáil Éireann by the Taoiseach Enda Kenny. He did not contest the 2016 general election and retired from politics.

In 1973, he was elected to Seanad Éireann as a Senator for the Agricultural Panel, and after his re-election to the Seanad in 1977 he was elected Leas-Chathaoirleach of the 14th Seanad. He was elected to the European Parliament in 1979 for the Connacht–Ulster constituency and to the Dáil at the 1981 general election representing the Sligo–Leitrim constituency. He served as secretary of the Fine Gael Parliamentary Party, Secretary of the Opposition Front bench and party Spokesperson for Agriculture. He lost his seat at the February 1982 general election but regained it at the November 1982 general election.

Glyndon is an unincorporated community in Baltimore County, Maryland, United States. Founded in 1871 by Dr. Charles A. Leas, the village is located in the northwest section of Baltimore County and is primarily a residential suburb of metropolitan Baltimore City. The village is characterized by the predominance of historic Victorian homes and a strong sense of community among its residents. Glyndon is listed on the National Register of Historic Places (1973) and on the Maryland Inventory of Historic Properties (1973); the Glyndon Historic District was also designated as the first historic district in Baltimore County (1981).
Dread Dragon Droom (popularly known as Droom) is an educational game designed and published by Humberside (Humberside Microelectronics in Education Centre) in 1985. The game was used widely in schools throughout the United Kingdom in the 1980s and was one of the first examples of British educational software designed specifically for schools. Humberside was the educational support centre of the then local education authorities of Humberside. Humberside was part of a consortium of LEAs (the others being Barnsley, Sheffield, Doncaster, Rotherham and, for a time, Wakefield) which established a regional support centre called RESOURCE, based in Doncaster.
In 1985-86 the commission led the investigation of the rate-capping rebellion which resulted in 32 Lambeth councillors and 47 Liverpool councillors being surcharged and banned from office. The Commission gained responsibility for auditing the National Health Service in 1990, and fire and rescue services in 2004. In 1996 the Commission began joint reviews of social services (with the Social Services Inspectorate of the Department of Health), and in 1997, reviews of local education authorities (LEAs) jointly with OFSTED. On 1 April 2005 the Commission's remit in Wales transferred to the Auditor General for Wales.

Stephen Gilbert was born in Newcastle, Co Down, in 1912, into a prosperous Irish Protestant mercantile family, and grew up mainly in an affluent district of East Belfast. Like his near contemporaries CS Lewis and Louis MacNeice, the young Gilbert was sent "across the water" to school. From age ten he attended The Leas, Hoylake on Merseyside, and from age 13 Loretto School, Musselburgh from which he returned without a leaving certificate. In Belfast he worked briefly as a court reporter for the Northern Whig (a witness to magistrates imposing fines on failed suicides, Gilbert in later years volunteered with the Samaritans).
Municipal boroughs with a population of 10,000 and urban districts with a population of 20,000 were to be local education authorities in their areas for elementary education only. The LEAs' role was further expanded with the introduction of school meals in 1906 and medical inspection in 1907. In 1904 the London County Council became a local education authority, with the abolition of the London School Board. The metropolitan boroughs within London were not education authorities, although they were given the power to decide on the site for new schools in their areas, and provided the majority of members on boards of management.
Australia's support to Philippine law enforcement includes a range of capacity building initiatives including training; construction and refurbishment of LEA establishments; and gifting of technical equipment, vehicles and surveillance equipment to Philippine LEAs. In 2008, Australia funded the building of the Forensic Explosives Laboratory and Bomb Data Centre in Davao, Mindanao. This continues to provide world class counter- terrorism and counter IED work. He stood again at the 1938, 1943 and 1944 general elections, but never returned to the Dáil. After the loss of his Dáil seat in 1937, he stood in the subsequent elections to the 5th Seanad Éireann, winning a seat on the Industrial and Commercial Panel. He was re-elected in 1943, and in 1944 was returned on the Administrative Panel, serving as Cathaoirleach (chair) of the Seanad from 1948 to 1951. In 1951, he was nominated by the Taoiseach, Éamon de Valera, to the 7th Seanad, and elected as Leas- Chathaoirleach (deputy chair) on 2 June 1948.

County Hall, Dún Laoghaire Dún Laoghaire–Rathdown County Council is the local authority for the county. There are six Local Electoral Areas (LEAs) for the county which return a total of 40 councillors as follows: Killiney-Shankill (6), Blackrock (6), Dundrum (7), Dún Laoghaire (8), "Glencullen/Sandyford" (7), Stillorgan (6). In 1986, the "administrative county" of Dublin was divided into three "electoral counties": Dún Laoghaire–Rathdown, Dublin — Fingal, and Dublin — Belgard. In 1994, Dublin County Council and the Corporation of Dún Laoghaire were abolished and the three electoral counties became "administrative counties", named Dún Laoghaire–Rathdown, Fingal, and South Dublin respectively.
Ahern's political role came in 1964 when she was nominated to Seanad Éireann by the Taoiseach, Seán Lemass, to fill a vacancy caused by the death of Senator Pádraig Ó Siochfhradha. Ahern contested the Dáil elections of 1965, 1969 and 1973, but was unsuccessful on all three occasions. However, she retained her Seanad seat, initially as a Taoiseach's nominee, and in 1969 and 1973 she was elected on the Cultural and Educational Panel. After her re-election in 1973, she was nominated by Fianna Fáil senator Brian Lenihan for the post of Leas- Chathaoirleach of the 13th Seanad.

Worthing beat the 2012–13 National League 2 North runners up Stourbridge 28–26 to win the annual promotion playoff. Barking and Lydney were both relegated to National League 3 South West and National League 3 London & SE respectively with Barking winning just one game in what was a very poor season. As well as winning the league Henley Hawks also saw a divisional record attendance at Dry Leas with 3,270 fans turning up to the last game of the season - the championship decider against Worthing Raiders which Henley won 55 - 27 to seal the title for the Oxfordshire club.
During the 1990s, as in most countries, to help law enforcement and the FBI more effectively carry out wiretap operations, especially in view of the emerging digital voice and wireless networks at the time, the U.S. Congress passed the Communications Assistance for Law Enforcement Act (CALEA) in 1994. This act provides the Federal statutory framework for network operator assistance to LEAs in providing evidence and tactical information. In 2005, CALEA was applied to public broadband networks Internet access and Voice over IP services that are interconnected to the Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN). In the 2000s, surveillance focus turned to terrorism.
Crofton Consulting, the consulting engineers responsible for the Leas Lift restoration, was appointed as lead consultant to provide structural engineering design. Crofton won the ‘Building Structures’ award at the ACE Engineering Excellence Awards in May 2011 and won the ‘Restoration’ award at the ICE Engineering Excellence Awards in June 2011 for their work on the lift. G A Harpers were appointed as the main contractor to carry out the necessary construction work. The renovation involved replacing the mechanical and electrical wiring and ensuring that all necessary safety standards in the two cars, the control systems and stations, were met.
The company operated the lift on behalf of the community as a non-profit-making organisation and has opened the attraction as a living museum. In January 2017, the lift again closed temporarily, following an HSE inspection which determined that a secondary fail-safe braking system must be installed before the lift could be re-opened. £80,000 was raised to conduct the preliminary works required to reinstate the lift, including a full engineering survey. A new company, the Folkestone Leas Lift Company (FLLC) was set up and with funding from the Radnor Estate and the Roger De Haan Charitable Trust.

The Harvey promotes charities very strongly and has raised around £300,000 for charity, previously through an Annual Sponsored Walk around the surrounding coastline and/or countryside. It involved all students (992) setting out along a marshalled route with sponsored cards, helping raise money for charity. An annual Prizegiving Day is held at the Leas Cliff Hall in Folkestone to recognise those boys who have achieved a high standard in academic and/or sporting activities. Guest speaker in 2018 was Edward Argar who is a Member of Parliament for the constituency of Charnwood since the 2015 elections and a former pupil of the school.
To the North-East of the Village are the remains of the Elham Valley Railway, characterised by steep-sided cuttings and tunnels. The line which ran from Canterbury to the port of Folkestone, was closed in 1947 and dismantled between 1950 and 1954. The line is crossed by Teddars Leas Road (bridge) and Badger's Bridge as well as the Golf Course. Although there was no station in Etchinghill, villagers could catch the train by travelling to the neighbouring village of Lyminge, approximately 2 miles to the North via road or one of the many public footpaths.
Sellars was born in Liverpool, the second son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Sellars. He was educated at The Leas, Hoylake, and the Loretto School, Musselburgh, and was entered for Gonville and Caius College, Cambridge. He began learning to fly at the Beatty School at Hendon Aerodrome in December 1915, and on 10 May 1916 was granted Royal Aero Club Aviator's Certificate No. 2852 after flying a Caudron biplane. He was then commissioned as a second lieutenant (on probation) in the Royal Flying Corps on 3 June 1916, appointed a flying officer on 20 July, and confirmed in his rank on 17 August.
It also brought in a new system for setting teacher salaries. One of the results of the Act was to increase the openness of secondary schools to girls and the working class, educating and mobilising them. Another result was that the percentage of children attending higher education tripled from 1% to 3%. The Act provided both for nursery schools and Further Education programs through community colleges, offering education for both children and adults, a measure that was only followed through by a few LEAs such as the Cambridgeshire Village Colleges, Leicestershire Community Colleges and Coventry, Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire community schools.

Following his involvement in the Oireachtas Golf Society scandal ("golfgate"), Buttimer resigned as Leas-Cathaoirleach on 21 August 2020. The event saw Buttimer and 80 others attended a golf function and dinner the previous day, in breach of government COVID-19 guidelines. Buttimer's role in the matter was heavily criticised, as previously Buttimer has been highly critical of those he perceived as not keeping to government guidelines. In April 2020 he had accused broadcaster Ivan Yates of “irresponsible behaviour”, telling him that public health measures were “about saving lives… not socialising”. In June he had suggested Donnchadh Ó Laoghaire was “happy to abandon public health advice”.

It campaigned against women teaching boys aged over seven, and also against women headteachers in school where men worked. It aimed to recruit every schoolmaster into the NAS, to safeguard and promote the interests of male teachers, to ensure recognition of the social and economic responsibilities of male teachers, and to ensure the representation of schoolmasters on matters concerned with education with both the local education authorities (LEAs) and government.
At the end of G4's Reunion Tour in September 2015 the group announced that they would tour the UK in April and September 2016 with their Back for Good Tour. The Back for Good Tour consisted of 15 dates in April and 14 dates in September. The tour started off in April at The Lighthouse Poole on the 3rd and the first half of the tour ended in Leas Cliff Hall Folkstone on the 21st (Mike Christie's Birthday). Operators of private network infrastructures in the United States have an inherent right to maintain LI capabilities within their own networks unless otherwise prohibited. One of the bases for LI is the interception of telecommunications by law enforcement agencies (LEAs), regulatory or administrative agencies, and intelligence services, in accordance with local law. Under some legal systems, implementations—particularly real-time access to content—may require due process and receiving proper authorization from competent authorities—an activity that was formerly known as "wiretapping" and has existed since the inception of electronic communications.
To ensure systematic procedures for carrying out interception, while also lowering the costs of interception solutions, industry groups and government agencies worldwide have attempted to standardize the technical processes behind lawful interception. One organization, ETSI, has been a major driver in lawful interception standards not only for Europe, but worldwide. This architecture attempts to define a systematic and extensible means by which network operators and law enforcement agents (LEAs) can interact, especially as networks grow in sophistication and scope of services. Some Local Authorities have found that the increase in cross- border movement associated with the Greenwich Judgement makes it more difficult for them to fulfil their statutory duty to ensure all children within their area are offered a school place. Paddy Burke (born 15 January 1955) is an Irish Fine Gael politician who has served as a Senator for the Agricultural Panel since 1993. He previously served as Cathaoirleach of Seanad Éireann from 2011 to 2016 and Leas- Chathaoirleach of Seanad Éireann from 2002 to 2011. Burke was a member of Mayo County Council from 1979 until the abolition of the dual mandate in 2003. He was first elected to the Oireachtas in the 1993 election to the 20th Seanad as a Senator for the Agricultural Panel, which also returned him to the 21st Seanad in 1997 and to the 22nd Seanad in 2002.
Paul Coghlan (born 1 June 1944) is an Irish former Fine Gael politician who served as Leas-Chathaoirleach of Seanad Éireann from June 2016 to March 2020, and a Senator for the Industrial and Commercial Panel from September 1997 to March 2020. Coghlan unsuccessfully contested the 1992 general election in the Kerry South, constituency. He then stood on the Agricultural Panel in the election to the 20th Seanad, but did not win a seat. In 1997 he was elected to the 21st Seanad by the Industrial and Commercial Panel, and re-elected in 2002 to the 22nd Seanad, where he was Fine Gael spokesperson on Enterprise, Trade and Employment.
Major continued with the reforms in the education sector began under Thatcher with the Education Reform Act 1988; as part of this he pushed for the creation of grant-maintained schools which were outside the control of Local Education Authorities (LEAs). Schools were also given greater powers to specialise in certain subject areas, thus creating greater choice for parents and pupils. In 1992 league tables for schools began to be published and an independent schools inspectorate (OFSTED) was created, both with the aim of improving standards in line with the Citizen's Charter initiative. Student Achievement and School Accountability Programs (SASA) is a division of the Office of Elementary and Secondary Education (OESE) of the U.S. Department of Education (ED) that administers programs of financial assistance to State and local education agencies (LEA) and to colleges and universities. Plans for a new training ground to replace the Old Police Academy at Thomson Road of the Singapore Police Force laid the foundation for the development of the HTA. When plans were mooted to incorporate other organisations involved in law enforcement, such as the auxiliary police forces, the facility was tentatively named as the Law Enforcement Academy of Singapore (or LEAS for short). Subsequent changes, which also include the training schools of other "Home Team" organisations, led to a renaming of the complex to the Home Team Academy. On 31 December 2005, a "moving parade" was conducted by the police force to signify its transition from the old academy to the new HTA.
Cheapskate Records was originally created to release a one-off single by The Dummies, a musical project formed by Jim Lea of Slade and his brother Frank. After recording a demo version of Slade's "When the Lights Are Out" in 1978, a major record label expressed interest in releasing the song, but insisted a proper recording be made. This was done in 1979, however the label then opted not to release it,The New Slade Fan Club - Frank Lea interview - July-August 1980 newsletter prompting the Leas to form Cheapskate. Frank wanted to prove that any independent label, with the right promotion and distribution, could release a hit single and "When the Lights Are Out" surfaced in December 1979.
It was a very poor election for Labour as they just returned 1 seat in each of the 3 city LEAs just as did the Anti- Austerity Alliance. Sinn Féin sent a delegation of 6 councillors back to the new chamber to join their existing member Maurice Quinlivan. Independents secured the remaining 3 seats, 1 of which was Emmett O'Brien a former member of the Fianna Fáil National Executive.. After the elections 4 of the Fianna Fáil members broke away to form an independent block over an internal disagreement over who should secure the Chairmanship of the Council. This was later resolved after intercession by Party Headquarters and they rejoined the Fianna Fáil grouping..
"The Education Act 1996 states that an agreed syllabus must reflect the fact that the religious traditions in Great Britain are in the main Christian, while taking account of the teachings and practices of the other principal religions represented in Great Britain." The Church of Scotland does not have schools, although it does often have a presence in Scottish non-denominational institutions. There is no National Curriculum for Religious Education in state schools in England. In England and Wales, the content of the syllabus for state schools is agreed on by local education authorities (LEAs), with the ratification of a Standing Advisory Council on Religious Education (SACRE) comprising members of different religious groups, teachers and local councillors.

There are also a smaller number of partially selective schools in England. In Northern Ireland, secondary education is predominantly based on academic selection, although a number of comprehensive schools also exists.
The reaction to the new style and structure of qualifications was mixed; whilst many schools and colleges welcomed the increased flexibility and the nature of the modules, the Key Skills courses were increasingly targeted as a failure. Many students were exempt from taking these courses as they had the relevant GCSEs, leaving some classes empty. General apathy towards the courses from UCAS and most universities meant that Key Skills was dropped from some LEAs requirements by the end of 2003. Some have criticised the modular system for nurturing a 'resit culture' due to the 'generous' resit system, and causing perceived 'grade inflation' where the proportion of candidates achieving higher grades increases, thus eroding the value of those grades.

The ensemble proved so cohesive that all twelve of its members decided to continue playing together after the war, under the name Phil Tate & His Orchestra, taking a residency at Leas Cliff Hall in Folkestone. John Ryan (Fine Gael) was elected as Leas-Cathaoirleach (Vice- Chairman) of the Council.
Circular 10/65 was a government circular issued in 1965 by the Department of Education and Science (DES) requesting Local Education Authorities (LEAs) in England and Wales to begin converting their secondary schools to the Comprehensive System. For most of England and Wales, it marked the abolition of the old grammar schools and secondary moderns, and the 11-plus examination. Circular 10/65 was the initiative of recently appointed Education Secretary Anthony Crosland; it is sometimes called the Crosland Circular. It reflected the Labour government's view that the existing Tripartite System of education was flawed, and had to be replaced with comprehensive schools, which had been increasing in number over the previous sixteen years.

On 11 March 1968, chairman Ron Blindell announced that plans were afoot to leave Griffin Park and move to Hillingdon's Leas Stadium. It transpired that Queen Park Rangers chairman Jim Gregory had resurrected his interest in Griffin Park and offered £250,000 for the use of the ground, a fee that would wipe out Brentford's £135,000 debt instantly, if the club moved to Hillingdon. The name "Brentford Borough FC" had already been chosen for the new Hillingdon-based club, but once again Brentford was saved at the eleventh hour, with former director Walter Wheatley granting the club a £69,000 interest-free loan, repayable in 12 months. Despite atrocious form in the second half of the 1967–68 season, Brentford had dropped only as far as 14th place.

The English Language Acquisition, Language Enhancement, and Academic Achievement Act - formerly known as the Bilingual Education Act - is a federal grant program described in Title III Part A of the federal Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA), which was reauthorized as the No Child Left Behind Act in 2002 and again as the Every Student Succeeds Act in 2015.
