Klaus Siebold lost his ministerial position because of the Energy Crisis that followed the exceptional winter weather in 1978/79. He had sanctioned maintenance shut downs of power plant in January 1979 at a time when sustained heavy snow falls imperiled East German power supplies. The pumps serving numerous district heating systems failed and families had to be evacuated from their frozen apartments. In cold barns young cattle were frozen to death, as were hens in their battery cages. Shortly before the snow storms, on 13/14 December 1978, at the 9th conference of the SED Central Committee, Siebold was on the receiving end of the conventional lavish praise, here from a candidate for Politburo membership called Werner Walde.

Pugin was by any standard a pioneer of the Gothic revival and had aesthetic tastes very close to those of the Cambridge Camden Society, he was unequivocally condemned for his Roman Catholicism. Vianna's solution was a plan to "Aryanise" Brazil by bringing in millions of fair-skinned European immigrants and thus achieve the "embranquecimento" of Brazil. Vianna served as the education minister under the dictatorship of Getúlio Vargas, where he was well known for his advocacy of the advantages of "Aryan" immigration to Brazil. Until the Second World War, Gobineau's writings were cited in Brazil in support of the claim that miscegenation caused "physical degeneration" and there must be no interracial sex in Brazil if the Brazilian people were to have a positive future.

Historically, Cox's Pass at Mount York became heavily imbued with symbolic cultural meaning commencing with the lavish praise given by Governor Macquarie in 1815 and then through the series of traveller's accounts and artworks which featured the Pass in subsequent years.
