Low levels of norepinephrine cause an increase in reward dependence. When produced in normal levels, norepinephrine creates a sense of well-being, but low levels of norepinephrine cause symptoms of depression, lack of arousal and lack of motivation. In humans, this leads to then a negative feedback mechanism whereby we seek out pleasurable activities to remove the negative affect caused by the low levels of norepinephrine, therefore increasing our reward dependence.

Some medications, such as selective serotonin re-uptake inhibitors (SSRIs), can have suicidal ideation as a side effect. Moreover, these drugs' intended effects, can themselves have unintended consequence of an increased individual risk and collective rate of suicidal behavior: Among the set of persons taking the medication, a subset feel bad enough to want to attempt suicide (or to desire the perceived results of suicide) but are inhibited by depression-induced symptoms, such as lack of energy and motivation, from following through with an attempt. The French-British film Highlander 2: The Quickening is a sequel to the cult film Highlander, which transitions the fantasy of the original film into science fiction, and retcons the mystical warriors of the first film into aliens. It was met with harsh criticism by both critics and audiences. Based on 24 reviews collected by Rotten Tomatoes, the film holds a 0% "Rotten" rating. Common criticisms included the lack of motivation for the characters, the blatant disregard for established characters and background set forth in the first film (such as the new and seemingly incongruent origin for the Immortals), the massive number of gigantic plot holes, the film's messy, nonsensical story structure, the filmmaker's inability to balance the rather unrelated plots and subplots involved, the unexplained resurrection of Ramirez, and rampantly apparent contradictions in the film's internal logic.

Magdalena "Lena" Neuner (since her 2014 marriage legally Magdalena Holzer, born 9 February 1987) is a retired German professional biathlete. She is the most successful woman of all time at Biathlon World Championships and a two- time Olympic gold medalist. At the age of 21, she became the youngest Overall World Cup winner in the history of the International Biathlon Union (IBU). With 34 World Cup wins, Neuner is ranked second all-time for career victories on the Biathlon World Cup tour. She has won the Overall World Cup title three times, in 2007–08, in 2009–10 and her final season in 2011–12. Neuner retired from the sport in March 2012, citing a lack of motivation and her desire for a normal life. Neuner started biathlon when she was nine years old and won five junior world championship titles from 2004 to 2006. She made her World Cup debut in 2006 and won her first World Cup race in January 2007.

Although many health policy scholars and public health initiatives have suggested that weight stigma might motivate weight loss, the evidence from the existing literature largely does not support this notion. As cited above, experiencing weight stigma (both interpersonally as well as exposure to stigmatizing media campaigns) is consistently related to a lack of motivation to exercise and a propensity to overeat. In a 2010 review examining whether weight stigma is an appropriate public health tool for treating and preventing overweight and obesity, Puhl and Heuer concluded that stigmatizing individuals with overweight and obesity is detrimental in three important ways: (1) it threatens actual physical health, (2) it perpetuates health disparities, and (3) it actually undermines obesity treatment and intervention initiatives. Grujić's proposal was adopted based on the strategic principle that by moving swiftly into position Serbia could concentrate the bulk of her forces moving offensively against the main Turkish contingent before it had a chance to organise its troops and this way seek a decisive battle, the primary objective being the destruction of the enemy's army. In the spirit of that decision, it was decided to concentrate most of the army in the main Moravian region, then make utmost use of the superior mobilisation and strong motivation of the Serbian people and army, even with outnumbered military forces, given the known slowness in the mobilisation and concentration of the Turkish army, its outdated tactics and the lack of motivation of Turkish soldiers. However, just before the start of the operation, at the request of the Serbian government, the war operational plan was changed. Instead of taking a decisive offensive with most of the forces on the Moravian border, it was decided to launch an offensive on all fronts, and therefore orders were sent to redirect troops already in motion according to the previously adopted plan.
