Eradane Maduve ( Second Marriage) is a 2010 Indian Kannada comedy movie directed by Dinesh Baboo starring Ananth Nag, Suhasini Maniratnam, Tara and Jennifer Kotwal in the lead roles. The film was remade in Telugu in 2011 as Bhale Mogudu Bhale Pellam starring Rajendra Prasad. The movie had a sequel titled Mathond Madhuvena released in 2011.
Nagpur was ruled by Gond kings, then later by Maratha Bhonsale before the British East India Company took over the city. The Gond Kingdom and Bhonsale Raj had five elements, based on ancient Indian and medieval police tradition, viz. police under revenue authorities, village kotwals and city kotwals. Kotwal was the cornerstone of the police.
In the ensuing struggle to reign over Bangalore, Kothwal Ramachandra was bumped off by Jayaraj by giving support to Agni Shridhar, Varadharaja Nayak and Bacchan. Death of Kotwal Ramachandra is very well depicted in Kannada movie Aa Dinagalu. Jayaraj was popular with people. He ran a newspaper "Ghareebi Hatao" targeting Janata Dal politicians and police.
He was a Divisional Darbari, Lambardar and Kotwal of his circle and a member of the Local and District Boards. His family held 80 acres as proprietors in Bir Bhangahal and Bir, yielding Rs. 2,200 per annum. He died in 1912. The last head, Mian Prithi Pal, was a Zaildar and lived in Bir.
Abu Rai, the son of Banku Behari Rai, was appointed Choudhuri and Kotwal of Rekhabi Bazar in Bardhaman in 1657 under the Faujdar of Chakla Bardhaman. He is considered to be the patriarch of the Bardhaman Raj family as it was during his time the zamindari started flourishing and the zamindari was firmly established.
The elder daughter Faridun Nisan was married to Ghulam Ali ibn Qazi Qutubuddin of Jhajjar. In 1829 (1240 Fasli), Ghulam Ali migrated to Nagpur from Jhajjar, where his brothers were in top positions. He became Kotwal but latterly left the job in 1841. In Nagpur, Choti Masjid (Masjid Ahle Hadith) was built by him.
Akbar Ali Khan was hanged to death by Britishers during the revolt of 1857. In consequence, his property was also snatched. His grave is at Tekri Sitabildi. Another brother of Ghulam Ali, Mohammad Saladuddin, was also an administrator, kotwal, and a minister in the court of Maharaja Senasaheb Subha Chhatrapati Raghuji Bapusaheb Bhonsle III.

Turban fitters of Pune, 1890 The pagadi was introduced in the 19th century by Mahadev Govind Ranade, a social reformer. Later, it was worn by many leaders like Lokmanya Tilak, J.S. Karandikar, D.D. Sathye, Dr. Vitthalrao Gade, Tatyasaheb Kelkar and Datto Vaman Potdar. The pagadi became more popular in 1973 after the Marathi play, Ghashiram Kotwal.
It resulted in the prosperity of the city. There is a tomb near Bhadra Gate of the fort dedicated to Siddique Kotwal and a temple to Bhadra Kali, representing Laxmi. A lamp in one of the niche of Teen Darwaza is burning there for more than six hundred years by a Muslim family in a dedication to the legend.

He was backed by some politicians in his heyday. He was killed on 22 March 1986 by a four-member goonda team, supported by Jayaraj.
Vithal Kotwal was born on 1 December 1912 in Matheran, a hill station near Mumbai, in the district Raigad. He belonged to the poor barber family. He stayed there till the fourth grade when he studied in the local school and returned only after he graduated from Pune in 1936. He was the eldest and had three sisters.
The Kotwar are a community found in the state of Uttar Pradesh in India. They are sub-group of the Panika caste. The word Kotwar is a corruption of kotwal, which means a keeper of the castle in Hindi. They are said to have acquired the name on account of the fact that they were traditionally village watchmen.

The Commissioner of Police of the City of Hyderabad used to be called the ‘Kotwal’. It is one of the oldest establishment and used to be the most powerful job in the H.E.H. Nizam's Government. As a city police commissioner, he also headed the Baldia in Ex-Officio cadre. He is responsible for peace and neatness in the city.
He has introduced street lighting as a security measure (Those days it was called Kandil). He appointed dedicated staff for the purpose. He introduced a weekly special sanitation programme in all streets, through which it was possible to see the clean city every Friday morning. Vithal Laxman Kotwal (alias Bhai) Marathi वीर भाई कोतवाल was a social reformer and revolutionary from Neral, Maharashtra, India. He laid down his life in the freedom struggle of the country. He was killed in an encounter with the British police officer DSP R. Hall while he was underground with his team in the jungle of Sidhagadh on 2 January 1943.
Due to the printer, an image of Muhammad was published with a blemish over one of his eyes, making him look blinded in that eye. Parsis were attacked by the mob on the streets and in their homes. Shops were looted, Zoroastrian fire temples were ransacked and jewellery was stolen. The kotwal tried stopping the riots but failed to do so.
Ghashiram barters his own daughter to get the post of Kotwal (police chief) of Pune from Nana. Having got the post he begins to enforce strict rules in the city. He starts asking for permits for everything and starts throwing people in jail for the smallest offences. In the meantime, Ghashiram's daughter becomes pregnant by Nana, and dies during childbirth.

The Subahdar was the head of the Mughal provincial administration. He was assisted by the provincial Diwan, Bakshi, Faujdar, Kotwal, Qazi, Sadr, Waqa-i-Navis, Qanungo and Patwari.
An inquisitive trainee journalist Nivedhitha (Jennifer Kotwal) is eager to know about Madesha and requests an appointment with him. On 2 January 1943 early morning when the Azad Dasta was preparing to shift to another safe place and was waiting for the help to come, R. Hall and Stafford attacked the Dasta members. First to fall was the young Hiraji Patil, son of deputy leader of Azad Dasta Gomaji Patil. Hiraji died on the spot. Bhai Kotwal got injured in the thigh and could not move.
In the meantime, Rajvallabh led the forces of Kritichand into the kingdom accompanied by the forces of the Mughal faujdar of Hooghly. After capturing the forts of Chhaunapur and Naskardanga, their combined troops surrounded Garh Bhavanipur. Bamacharan Paladhi, the kotwal held the fort for two days before being killed by an insider. His wife Veermati manned the defence after his death, before being martyred.

Suddenly, Venkatarama was asked to see the Nizam. Although he had worked in the Nizam’s Private Estate, he had never met the ruler before. He was therefore naturally very jittery. It was a Friday and when the Assistant Kotwal presented himself at the King Kothi. After his prayers, the Nizam looked up the nervous officer four or five times and then said, ‘Well, you can go’.
Moroba Kanhoba Vijaykar was a 19th-century writer and social reformer belonging to the Pathare Prabhu community of Maharashtra. He wrote the famous Marathi novel "Ghashiram Kotwal" based on a true character in the 18th century. As a reformer who believed in the rights of women, especially widows, he married a widow in 1870. Unfortunately, the couple was found dead within one year of their marriage.

The plot revolves around mafia in Bangalore during the 1980s when gangsters Kotwal Ramachandra and M. P. Jayaraj dominated the Bangalore underworld.

Urban administration under the Mughals was minimal, and most streets aside from major thoroughfares were privately maintained. The local Mohalladar would surveil individual mohalla neighbourhoods, and register births and deaths within his mohallah.
Gangadhar Nehru (1827 4 February 1861) was an Indian police officer, who served as the last kotwal of Delhi (Chief of Police) in the court of the Mughal emperor Bahadur Shah II, before the position was abolished following the Indian Rebellion of 1857. He was the father of Indian independence activist Motilal Nehru and grandfather of India's first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru, and thus part of the Nehru–Gandhi family.

These tombs include the mazar of Makhdum Azizuddin (or Lal Pir) in Kannauj, the grave of the kotwal Miyan Rajab in Kannauj, and the mausoleum of Burhanuddin in Tambaur. People claimed to have seen ghosts of Miyan Rajab as a headless horseman. Some people in Faizabad claimed to have seen the whole army of Masud in form of ghosts. Masud's followers also venerated him as a saint who miraculously cured leprosy.

In PDA produced plays, he acted as well as directed.He directed Vijay tendulkar's Ashi Pakhare yeti for PDA which was a great commercial success. In 1972, Patel and colleagues such as Mohan Agashe, and Satish Alekar broke away from PDA over differences on staging their new production, Ghashiram Kotwal written by Vijay Tendulkar.

Jalal-ud-din's men also abducted some sons of Malik al- Umara Fakhruddin, the kotwal of Delhi, and therefore, Fakhruddin dissuaded the people of Delhi from trying to retrieve Kayumars. After eliminating the officers of the rival faction, Jalal-ud-din continued to acknowledge Kayumars as the Sultan of Delhi. He became the governor of Bhatinda, Dipalpur and Multan provinces. Initially, he offered Kayumars' regency to Balban's nephew Malik Chajju and Fakhruddin.
Fort Siddhagad is an ancient hillfort built by the Shilahara royal family in the 9th century AD. The tomb of freedom fighter and martyr Bhai Kotwal lies at the base of this fort's south side. It is the highest hillfort in Maharashtra (with a height of about 910 metres). The central top of this fort is a particularly exciting and tough climb. Visits to the fort are best undertaken in the winter or summer season.
Rao Krishan Gopal, from Nangal Pathani village of Gurgaon district was the Kotwal of Meerut, who had played a prominent part in collaboration with Raja Nahar Singh of Ballabhgarh, Nawab of Jhajjar, and Rao Shahamat Khan of Mewat, by organising the patriotic forces and participating in several battles against the British troops. On Sunday, 10 May 1857, Kotwal Dhan Singh Gurjar opened the gates of the prison. These soldiers, along with the other imprisoned soldiers, escaped prison and declared themselves free, revolted, attacked and killed several of the British authorities to take the city under their control. This marked the beginning of a widespread revolt across northern India as these soldiers marched towards Delhi. 10 May is still celebrated as a local holiday in Meerut.
As soon as Vithal Kotwal returned to Matheran he got into socio political activities defying his father’s wish to carry on their family tradition. He began helping people when cyclone hit entire western Mumbai shore and fisherman community got displaced. Later in coordination with the local congress leader Rajaram alias Bhausaheb Raut, he got involved in politics and social work. He helped creating and enrolling common people in the voters’ list in the Matheran area.
Though motivated for the freedom struggle from his college days in Pune, Vithal became influenced by socio communist movement in the country. Hence he was called "Bhai" as an Indian synonym for comrade. He got fully involved and went underground when Mahatma Gandhi on 9 August 1942 asked British to "quit India". After the arrest of all the major leaders in India, an arrest warrant was also issued in the name of Bhai Kotwal.
K. Hariharan is an Indian film director who has directed films in Tamil, Marathi and Hindi. Currently he is the professor of Film Studies at Krea University. Born in Mumbai, Maharashtra, his father was the vice-president of Eastman Kodak. An alumnus of the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), Hariharan formed "Yukt Film Co-operative" in 1976 together with his batch mates to make an experimental film called Ghashiram Kotwal.
In 2005, Prem came out with his biggest blockbuster film, Jogi, starring Shivarajkumar, Jennifer Kotwal and Arundhati Nag in the lead roles. The film made record collections at the box-office. In July 2010, NAVIKA conducted the World Kannada Summit 2010 in Pasadena, California. Former Chief Minister of Karnataka B. S. Yeddyurappa was invited to inaugurate the event. Kannada actor Shivarajkumar, along with actresses Jennifer Kotwal and Sharmila Mandre, also participated in the event. Actor Ganesh cancelled his participation in the conference citing professional reasons, though it is believed that the cancellation was because he was not impressed with the facilities provided by the Karnataka government.

A glimpse of the military rebellion of 1857 On 10 May 1857, a rebellion against the East India Company rule broke out in Meerut during the 1857 uprising. As the kotwal of the city, Dhan Singh's job was to protect the city. However, many of his officers deserted his force on that day, either to join the rebellion or to escape the rebels' fury. The city saw large-scale rioting, plunder and murder.

Mahendra Mewati (1970–9 January 2019) was an Indian theatre and film actor known for his theatre productions like Raaste, Inder Sabha, Bhookh Aag Hai, Ghasiram Kotwal, Chukayenge Nahin, Raja Ki Rasoi, Dhruvswamini, Taj Mahal Ka Tender, Aurangzeb, Katha Ek Kans Ki (written by Daya Prakash Sinhaar), Crime and Punishment, Thanku Baba Lochan Das and for films Bhaag Milkha Bhaag (2013), Chintu Ji and Tevar. He has also directed the play Oedipus Rex (written by Sophocles).
Motilal Nehru was born on 6 May 1861, the posthumous son of Gangadhar Nehru and his wife Indrani. The Nehru family had been settled for several generations in Delhi, and Gangadhar Nehru was a kotwal in that city. During India's independence struggle of 1857, Gangadhar left Delhi with his family and moved to Agra, where some of his relatives lived. By some accounts, the Nehru family home in Delhi had been looted and burnt down during the Mutiny.
Right on Ghalib's heels (in fact, bumping into the poet in the doorway) comes another visitor to Moti's house: the Kotwal. He has just returned from the mushaira at the fort, bringing with him the transcript of the Ghalib ghazal he'd heard there. Abdullah Khan Mosque was built by Abdullah Khan during the reign of Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan. Khan was a cook of Prince Dara Shikoh, elder son of Shah Jahan, in 1653 AD, who rose up to the position of kotwal (Chief police officer) of Lahore for his services.Shaheed Ganj Dispute and ‘Amir-i-Mi!Iat’ It was completed in 1722 (1134 AH) by the Falak Beg Khan, and was built in the premises of the shrine to Pir Shah Kaku.

When he came across to see that landlords cheat peasants due to their ignorance he stated voluntary school for the children of these farmers. He altogether started 42 such schools in the area. Later, when landlords denied food grain to the farmers at the time of drought, Vithal Kotwal came up with the innovative idea of grain bank for the farmers. With the financial support of Mr. Raut, a few thousand kilos of grain were imported and distributed amongst the farmers.
Tendulkar based his play on a 1863 story by author-historian Moroba Kanhoba who tossed together history and fiction to write Ghashiram Kotwal and saw it as something of a simple morality play.' The first performance of this play was at Bharat Natya Mandir in Pune on 16 December 1972. The play initially generated a huge controversy, but has been considered a success in the following years. When Nawab Imad Jung bahadur became the Kotwal of Hyderabad, he asked Venkatram to be appointed as his First Assistant. He worked in that capacity for six years and instituted many reforms in the city Police.

It was alleged that Sidi Maula had asked Hathya Paik and Niranjan Kotwal to assassinate Jalal-ud-din on a Friday. These two were Balban-era Hindu officers (pahilwans or wrestlers, according to Ziauddin Barani). Malik Ulghu, the Mongol commander who had entered Jalal-ud-din's service, reported the allegations to Arkali Khan, while Jalal-ud-din was busy besieging Mandawar. Arkali Khan, who disliked the associates of his elder brother Khan-i Khanan, accepted the allegations as true, and arrested the alleged conspirators.

It examined 101 witnesses, 407 documents were produced, by witnesses, and the governments of India and Maharashtra. It had 162 sittings and traveled to Mumbai, Delhi, Nagpur, Dharwad, Pune, Baroda and Chandigarh. Counsels for governments of Maharashtra and India were R. S. Kotwal and B. B. Lal respectively, they argued their cases for 37, 13 days respectively.

As the governor of Samana, he distinguished himself in the Sultanate's conflicts with the Mongol invaders. After Balban's death in 1287, Delhi's kotwal Malik al-Umara Fakhruddin enthroned Balban's teenage grandson Muiz ud din Qaiqabad (or Kayqubad) with the title Muizzuddin. Qaiqabad was a weak ruler, and the administration was actually run by his officer Malik Nizamuddin. After Nizamuddin was poisoned by some rival officers, Qaiqabad summoned Jalal-ud-din from Samana to Delhi, gave him the title "Shaista Khan", appointed him as the ariz-i-mumalik, and made him the governor of Baran.
Because of his unpopularity, he decided not to move to Balban's palace at Delhi, and lived at Kilokhri for around one year. He finished the palace, and turned Kilokhri into an important town. Jalal-ud-din avoided making any radical changes to the administrative set-up, and retained the old Turkic nobles in the offices that they held during Balban's reign. For example, Fakhruddin was retained as the kotwal of Delhi, Khwaja Khatir was retained as the wazir, and Balban's nephew Malik Chajju was retained as the governor of Kara-Manikpur.

His family were natives of Meerut and Bulandsahar. His maternal grandfather Husam-ud-Din, was an important officer of Ghiyas ud din Balban and his father Muwayyid-ul-Mulk held the post of naib of Arkali Khan, the son of Jalaluddin Firuz Khalji. His uncle Qazi Ala-ul-Mulk was the Kotwal (police chief) of Delhi during the reign of Ala-ud- Din Khalji.
The film is all about the hilarious incidents that happen in a dentist Sathyavan's (Ramesh Aravind) life who is a big time flirt and never believes in marriage. He even threatened Ramakrishna Hegde, another Chief Minister of Karnataka with a knife in open house which was photographed by press.. Towards his ending days, he was also accused of barging into the CM's daughters Beauty Parlour in Sadashivanagar to threaten after which the tight vigil and search forced him to exit Bengaluru and seek shelter in the Tumakuru farmhouse leading to the events of his death.
The rest of the older aristocrats were replaced with the new nobles, who were extremely loyal to Alauddin. Meanwhile, Ala-ul Mulk, who was Alaudidn's governor at Kara, came to Delhi with all the officers, elephants and wealth that Alauddin had left at Kara. Alauddin appointed Ala-ul Mulk as the kotwal of Delhi, and placed all the non-Turkic municipal employees under his charge. Since Ala-ul Mulk had become very obese, the fief of Kara was entrusted to Nusrat Khan, who had become unpopular in Delhi because of the confiscations.
Born in Mumbai, Maharashtra, Hariharan completed a basic degree in commerce from Poddar College, Mumbai and later joined the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), Pune to do a course in screen-writing and direction. His father, a qualified cinematographer also served the Eastman Kodak as its vice-president. After passing out of the FTII, Hariharan formed "Yukt Films Co-operative" together with his batch mates that included Saeed Akhtar Mirza, Kamal Swaroop and their senior FTII alumni Mani Kaul. Shukla began serious theatre in 1986 with roles in plays like A View From The Bridge (Arthur Miller), Look Back in Anger (John Osborne), Ghashiram Kotwal (Vijay Tendulkar) and Hayvadan. In 1991, he joined the NSD Repertoire Company – the professional wing of the National School of Drama – as actor. The next year he got his first break when Shekhar Kapur, impressed with his work, created a role for him in Bandit Queen. Shukla also did the role of Vijay Anand's sidekick Gopi in the 1994 Doordarshan crime drama Tehkikaat.

A legend attributes the bread's name to Agha Baker Khan, an adopted son of the Nawab of Bengal, Murshid Quli Khan. According to the legend, Agha Baker Khan, a general based in Chittagong under Nawab Siraj ud-Daulah of Bengal, falls in love with a dancer called Khani Begum from Arambagh, who was also eyed by Zaynul Khan, the city's kotwal and the son of a wazir. Zaynul attempts to attack Khani for rejecting him, and Baker intervenes, defeating Zaynul in a swordfight. Zaynul 's two companions go and lie to his father, the wazir, telling him that Baker has killed Zaynul.

Many Iranians migrated to Bengal throughout history in search of employment as well as to propagate Islam. The first two Iranians, Baba Kotwal Isfahani and Qazi Ruknuddin Samarkandi, migrated from the Khwarazmian Empire in 1204, arriving to Bengal as acquaintances of the Turco-Persian military ruler Bakhtiyar Khalji during his conquest of the region, briefly unifying Iran and Bangladesh under Iranian Ghurid rule until the Khwarazmians took control over Iran. The Bengal Sultanate was a stronghold for Iranian and Turkic immigrants. With Persian as an official language, Bengal witnessed an influx of Persian scholars, lawyers, teachers and clerics.
Yash is a 1996 Indian Bollywood musical film directed by Sharad Saran. It stars Bijay Anand, Kartika Rane, Dilip Dhawan, Mangal Dhillon, Dina Pathak, Parikshat Sahni, Ajit Vachani and Sonu Walia. Its songs "Subah Subah Jab Khidki Khole" and "Yaaron Na Jane Mujhe Kya Ho Gaya" went on to become surprise chartbusters at the time, giving instant fame to its debutant composer Tabun (who later worked on Yaadein) and its lyricist Mehboob Kotwal. The Times of India in its review rated the film 3/5 and called the film a "brilliant portrayal of underworld don Kotwal Ramachandra." The reviewer concluded writing, "Sharath Lohithshwa, Ashish Vidyarthi and Atul Kulkarni are brilliant. While Girish Karnad gives a consummate performance, Archana shines and Dharma excels. H C Venu's camerawork is excellent.
He decides to hand over Rs 2,000 to Chaudhvin's mother; but since he does not possess that much, he sets out to 'earn' it — by gambling. He is successful, and hurries off to hand over the sum to the money-grubbing old woman. Old woman has, in the meantime, become a changed person, all because a desperate Chaudhvin has tried to commit suicide. Suddenly overcome by a fit of maternal affection, Chaudhvin's mother heaps recriminations on the head of the just-arrived Kotwal: he will not be married to Chaudhvin, not for all the gold in the world.
About 50 Indian civilians, some of them officers' servants who tried to defend or conceal their employers, were killed by the sepoys. While the action of the sepoys in freeing their 85 imprisoned comrades appears to have been spontaneous, some civilian rioting in the city was reportedly encouraged by kotwal (local police commander) Dhan Singh Gurjar. The Kotwal, Hashmat Khan, has been lusting after her and has persuaded Chaudhvin's penurious mother to give her daughter in marriage to him.
