He did not want to work with professional actors who he feared would be egotistical and may have thought that he was not legitimate as a first-time director.

The Teenage Kissers is a Japanese grunge band from Tokyo, Japan, formed in 2012 by well known vocalist Nana Kitade, bassist Hideo Nekota and drummer Mai Koike, and later joined by lead guitarist Tsubasa Nakada on April 6, 2013. TOPS is a Canadian indie rock band from Montreal, Quebec, which currently consists of Jane Penny, David Carriere, Riley Fleck, and Marta Cikojevic. They were formed in 2011 following the disbandment of synthpop group Silly Kissers, of which Carriere, Penny, and Gillies were members, along with notable Arbutus Records recording artist Sean Nicholas Savage. TOPS are prominent within the Arbutus Records and Canadian indie music scenes. It would eventually be released as the first single from Flap Your Wings. It was also on Flap Your Wings that The Choir's twin strands of worship-minded songs and confessional lyrics about love and loss finally came back together, after diverging during the early 1990s with Kissers and Killers. To that end, "Beautiful Scandalous Night," originally recorded for the worship record At the Foot of the Cross, Volume One: Clouds, Rain, Fire, was re-recorded to close out this album.

Three days before the beginning of principal photography, Lacoste broke his knee at a music concert, and so his resulting limp was added to the character. According to Sattouf, Lacoste and Sonigo were completely at ease with filming scenes of masturbation, and all of the actors treated their French kisses "like a hug". Filming of The French Kissers lasted for eight weeks. Some street scenes and interiors of Hervé's flat were filmed in Rennes, Brittany - where the film is set - but the budget was too small for substantial filming in Brittany, so Sattouf tried to find a college in the Paris suburbs that resembled his own in Rennes.

Later in 1992, the band reformed in Seattle, Washington as Green Apple Quick Step, with a new bassist, Mari Ann Braeden. They performed locally, sharing bills with Sweet Water, Meddaphysical and Best Kissers in the World, before recording their debut album, Wonderful Virus, at Bad Animals Studios in Seattle The album was produced by Daniel Rey and released in 1993 through The Medicine Label, which was initially backed by Reprise Records before switching to Giant Records. They filmed a music video for the album track "Dirty Water Ocean" which depicted the band in a garbage sluice. The band toured in support of the album, performing with bands that included The Pleasure Elite Gruntruck and Sister Psychic.

The album followed on 20 June 2005 although it had leaked onto the internet several months prior to the official release date, hampering its first week sales. The record has however, gone on to be certified Silver by the BPI, and in a recent poll held by the NME was proved to be the overall fans favourite record. The other singles released from the record were "Mirror Kissers", "Martell", and non-album track "You're Gonna Lose Us" (produced by Bernard Butler), which was paired with "The Wrong Way To Be" as a AA side. Throwing Muses, reformed in 2014: David Narcizo, Hersh, Bernard Georges Hersh's vocal style ranges from softly melodic to impassioned screaming. She has an occasional vibrato that punctuates some of her more dramatic phrasing. Candid about her episodes of mental illness and despair, her songs cover a vast spectrum of topics, including childbirth ("Hysterical Bending"), love ("Tar Kissers", "Lavender"), surreal vignettes ("Delicate Cutters", "Fish"), death ("Limbo"), emotional anguish ("The Letter"), loss of custody of her first son ("Candyland"), and the shedding of a relationship's anxiety ("Snake Oil"). Simon Reynolds in The New York Times pointed to Hersh's "mesmerizing" explorations of "rage, aggression and mental chaos" as evidence of female rock artists of the early 1990s pushing against gender role boundaries to express "more than simply vulnerability or defiance" in their work.

Rather than renew their recording contract with Myrrh, The Choir decided to create their own record label, Glasshouse, through which they could release their future albums independently. At this point in the band's musical evolution, the twin strands of worship-minded compositions and confessional songs about love and loss had begun to diverge, so after Derri Daugherty and Steve Hindalong provided their first album of worship music, At the Foot of the Cross, Volume One: Clouds, Rain, Fire, to the Christian market, the band put together what essentially was a collection of demos intended to attract the interest of a mainstream record label. To that end, only 6300 copies were pressed. Far more aggressive than anything the band had ever released, Kissers and Killers is a non-stop collection of alternative rock songs that bluntly address the complexities of romantic love and obsession.

Neverland Studios is an American recording studio owned and operated by musician and songwriter Derri Daugherty. Neverland was originally built in Los Alamitos, California, but eventually settled in Nashville, Tennessee when Daugherty relocated there in the early 1990s. Daugherty's band The Choir has recorded nearly all of its albums at the studio, including Chase the Kangaroo, Wide Eyed Wonder, Circle Slide, Kissers and Killers, Speckled Bird, Free Flying Soul, the Grammy nominated Flap Your Wings and O How the Mighty Have Fallen. Other albums to be recorded at the studio include the Lost Dogs albums Real Men Cry, Nazarene Crying Towel, MUTT, Island Dreams and The Lost Cabin and the Mystery Trees; parts of Daniel Amos' albums Kalhoun and MotorCycle; The Swirling Eddies' The midget, the speck and the molecule; The Drums for Mark Heard's Second Hand; Drums and Guitars for John Austin's The Embarrassing Young; Randy Stonehill's Wonderama, and Return to Paradise; the Various Artists series City on a Hill, and others.

Amorous feelings, initiated mostly by the much younger Jeliza-Rose, begin to creep into the childlike relationship between her and Dickens, and it is revealed that the deeply troubled Dickens, a man-child who once drove a school bus in front of an oncoming train, keeps a stash of dynamite in his bedroom that he intends to use against the "Monster Shark" he believes is roaming the countryside. The Monster Shark is, in reality, the nightly passenger train that travels past the farmhouse where Jeliza-Rose and her dead father reside. It is also revealed that Dell and Noah are not only "kissers," but also brother and sister, after Jeliza-Rose finds the trinkets in the dead mother's room to belong to her father. At the end of the film, following a violent confrontation between Dell, Dickens and Jeliza-Rose, a train wreck is caused by Dickens' dynamite, creating a scene of chaos near the farmhouse.
