According to scholar Oskar Skarsaune, Justin relies on two main sources for his proofs from prophecy that probably circulated as collections of scriptural testimonies within his Christian school. He refers to Justin's primary source for demonstrating scriptural proofs in the First Apology and parallel passages in the Dialogue as a "kerygma source". A second source, which was used only in the Dialogue, may be identical to a lost dialogue attributed to Aristo of Pella on the divine nature of the Messiah, the Dialogue of Jason and Papiscus (c. 140). Thus, in addition to the herlading the kerygma through evangelism, Methodists have advanced the Social Gospel through the establishment of hospitals, orphanages, soup kitchens, and schools to follow Christ's command to spread the good news and serve all people. Methodists believe that they can have an assurance of faith. With regard to sources on doctrine, Methodist theology teaches prima scriptura in the form of the Wesleyan Quadrilateral, which maintains that Scripture is to be the primary authority for the Church, with reason, personal experience, and Church tradition also being used to develop doctrine insofar as they agree with the Bible. Covenant theology is taught by the Methodist Churches: the covenant of grace was administered through "promises, prophecies, sacrifices, and at last by circumcision" during the patriarchal ages and through "the paschal lamb, the scape goat, [and] the priesthood of Aaron" under Mosaic Law.

Künneth argues that "the resurrection of Jesus cannot be cut out of" the Christian kerygma/message (p. 36) [either to dispose of it or to explain it]: for that would leave us merely with matters for psychic or sociological investigation, however inadequate, scientifically, these explanations would be to account for the duration, intensity, and persistence of the Christian faith (and here, one cannot help but think of William James's Varieties of Religious Experience). To imagine Dogma to be what Matthew Arnold took it to be, the Aberglaube, or added Belief above and beyond the Facts, would be to imprison Christianity forever within the continuum of space and time, which for Künneth, is subject to uncertainty and mortality and subjectivity. This, in fact, is just what Adolf Harnack had done in Germany, as Arnold was writing in England : Dogma was interpreted, via Higher Criticism, to be a Greek addition to the pure New Testament.

Bultmann believed his endeavors in this regard would make accessible to modern audiences — already immersed in science and technology — the significance (or existential quality) of Jesus' teachings. Bultmann thus thought of his endeavor of "demythologizing the New Testament proclamation" as fundamentally an evangelism task, clarifying the kerygma, or gospel proclamation, by stripping it of elements of the first- century "mythical world picture" that had potential to alienate modern people from Christian faith: > It is impossible to repristinate a past world picture by sheer resolve, > especially a mythical world picture, now that all of our thinking is > irrevocably formed by science. A blind acceptance of New Testament mythology > would be simply arbitrariness; to make such acceptance a demand of faith > would be to reduce faith to a work. Bultmann saw theology in existential terms, and maintained that the New Testament was a radical text, worthy of understanding yet questioned in his time because of the prevailing Protestant conviction in a supernatural interpretation.

The Charism of the Movement is: "To announce the Gospel from the Covenant of brotherly love, building disciple communities of salvation, under Jesus' Lordship" The peculiar thing about The Movement of the Word of God is a charism for reading and announcing the Word of God translating it into a significant and testimonial lifestyle. Such an announcement leads to the encounter and the experience of the true and living God of Revelation, who calls to conversion to a life surrendered and reconciled to God, and of brotherly love and community covenant among believers. From the beginning, what would later be called the charism of the Work arose from grace as a wish to live Jesus' Gospel in present time, with the fidelity of the Acts of the Apostles and the first Christian communities. This charism is: 1- Evangelizing To announce Jesus kerygma-tically and charismatically as Savior and Lord, and to announce the eternal Life of his Gospel.
