With the invasion documents in hand, d'Éon held the king in check. D'Éon did not offer any defense when Guerchy sued for libel, and d'Éon was declared an outlaw and went into hiding. IJA 4th Armored Division with Type 3 Chi-Nu tanks and Type 3 Ho-Ni III self- propelled guns The Imperial Japanese Army (IJA) initially purchased foreign tanks for evaluation during World War I, and began developing its own indigenous designs during the late 1920s. Due to the war with China, Japan produced a large number of tanks. Although initially the Japanese used tanks to good effect in their campaigns, full-scale armored warfare did not occur in the Pacific and Southeast Asian theaters as it did in Europe, and tank development was neglected in favor of naval activities. The best Japanese designs were never used in combat as they were kept back in expectation of defending the Japanese Home Islands.

Heracleides () of Maroneia was a man of ancient Greece who lived in the 4th century BCE. He had attached himself to the service of the Thracian chief Seuthes and was residing with him at the time that Xenophon and the remains of the Ten Thousand arrived in Thrace after their memorable retreat in 300 BCE. Heracleides was entrusted with the charge of disposing of the booty that had been acquired by the Greeks and Thracians in common, but kept back for his own use a considerable part of the money produced by the sale of it. This fraudulent conduct, together with the insinuations which he directed against Xenophon, when the latter urged with vigor the just claims of his troops, became the chief cause of the dissensions that arose between Seuthes and his Greek mercenaries.

Datchet Mead and Datchet Ferry in 1686 with Windsor Castle in the background Datchet on the north bank of the River Thames has existed as a settlement since before 990 but the first recorded mention of a river crossing is in 1224 when Henry III gave John le Passir a "great oak" with which to make a boat for "passage of Datchet". In 1278 Edward I paid for William of Eton to a build a "great barge" for Datchet Ferry. Although the Crown had provided for the vessels, the right to operate the ferry and collect tolls sat with the Lord of the Manor of Datchet. This continued until 1680 when the then Lord of the Manor, Colonel Andrew Pitcairn Wheeler, sold the Manor of Datchet to Budd Wase but kept back the ferry rights which he subsequently mortgaged for £1000 (equivalent to £ today).

Foxwell's library provides the nucleus of the Goldsmiths' Library of Economic Literature. When The Worshipful Company of Goldsmiths purchased the library of economic literature from Foxwell in 1901 for £10,000 it contained about 30,000 books. The Company also generously provided Foxwell with a series of subventions following the purchase of the Library to enable him to make further acquisitions prior to the gift of the Goldsmiths' Library of Economic Literature to the University of London in 1903. From the sale in 1901, Foxwell kept back duplicates that formed a second collection which he sold to Harvard University for £4,000 in 1929. From the termination of dealings with the Goldsmiths' Company in 1903, he began creating a second major collection.
