Its uniform was modeled on tribal dress and included a distinctive striped kaftan and shaggy fleeced hats. With the outbreak of World War I the native Turcoman cavalry recruited from Moslem volunteers was increased to a full division in strength. Following the overthrow of the Czarist regime the Turkmen Horse formed the bodyguard of General Lavr Kornilov.
El Hamdaouia was born is 1930 and grew up in Derb Sultan in Casablanca where she started singing from a young age. She sang in front of the "patchwork" Orchestra. She created her own style of pop music with traditional Moroccan kaftan. Her songs are considered as pop classics which were adapted many current Moroccan rappers.
Niger President Mamadou Tandja wearing a grand boubou Agbada is one of the names for a flowing wide-sleeved robe worn by men in much of West Africa, and to a lesser extent in North Africa, related to the dashiki suit. The garments is known by various names in different ethnic groups and languages that adopted it from the original babban riga of the Hausa People, called agbada in Yoruba, boubou from Wolof mbubb, mbubb in Wolof, k'sa or gandora in Tuareg, darra'a in Maghrebi Arabic, grand boubou in various French-speaking West African countries and the English term gown. The Senegalese boubou, a variation on the grand boubou described below, is also known as the Senegalese kaftan. The female version worn in some communities is also known as a m'boubou or kaftan or wrapper.
In Southeast Asia, the kaftan was originally worn by Arab traders, as seen in early lithographs and photographs from the region. Religious communities that formed as Islam became established later adopted this style of dress as a distinguishing feature, under a variety of names deriving from Arabic and Persian such as "jubah", a robe, and "cadar", a veil or chador.
French fashion designer Paul Poiret further popularised this style in the early 20th century. In the 1950s, fashion designers such as Christian Dior and Balenciaga adopted the kaftan as a loose evening gown or robe in their collections. These variations were usually sashless. American hippie fashions of the late 1960s and the 1970s often drew inspiration from ethnic styles, including kaftans.
These styles were brought to the United States by people who journeyed the so-called "hippie trail". African-styled, kaftan-like dashikis were popular, especially among African-Americans. Street styles were appropriated by fashion designers, who marketed lavish kaftans as hostess gowns for casual at-home entertaining. Diana Vreeland, Babe Paley, and Barbara Hutton all helped popularise the caftan in mainstream western fashion.

Until the middle of the nineteenth century, the brides of the wealthy aristocracy of Tunis often wore a Kaftan cut in velvet, brocade or silk and richly embroidered with gold and enriched with precious stones. Nowadays, some marrying in Sousse and Hammamet still wear a kaftan with elbow-length sleeves, an open front, and varying in length from the knee to the mid calf. The richness and originality of the costumes are typically based less on the cut or the fabric as they are on woven patterns or embroidery. Wearing the hijab is not widespread in Tunisia although the country has seen a relative increase since the early 2000s. A sirwal or pants, izaar or lungi are typically worn underneath.

Carol's dreams continue which become more complicated during scenes that appear to be dreams or hallucinations. Describing her latest one to her psychoanalyst, they depict a lesbian encounter between the two women, culminating in Carol grisly stabbing the seductive Julia to death. After Clyde Packer's resignation from the family's media interests in 1972, he became briefly involved in the counter- culture – famously donning a kaftan, claiming that it was "better than dieting". Old Russia cultivated especially during the era of Grand Principality of Moscow strong ties to Western Asia and countries of the Middle East and served also as an intermediary in the trade between Europe and Asian countries like Persia, as well as Turkey. Sarafan most likely originated from a kaftan-like costume which were worn in Russia by women and men. Sarafans became mostly popular in the Central and Northern Russian regions.

He served as the second-in-command of the imperial escort. However, the holiday one was enriched with trimmings of gold and silver threads. All city dwellers had to wear their kaftan in the afternoon. By the express petition of Baron Eduard Toll Rastorguyev was awarded the golden medal "For Eagerness" with the ribbon of Order of St. Anne and honorary kaftan. Artemios "Demis" Ventouris-Roussos (; 15 June 1946 – 25 January 2015) was a Greek - Egyptian vocalist and performer who had an internationally acclaimed career, as a single recording artist and bandleader. As a band member he is best remembered for his work in the progressive rock music act Aphrodite's Child, but as a vocal soloist, his repertoire included hit songs like ‘’Goodbye, My Love, Goodbye’’, ’’From Souvenirs to Souvenirs’’ and ’’Forever and Ever’’. Roussos sold over 60 million albums worldwide and became "an unlikely kaftan-wearing sex symbol".
Cedric shows that he is an intellectual prodigy. With some prodding and nurturing from his wife as well as from his mentor, Cedric accepts a scholarship to attend college and hone his magical abilities. As he matures and finds his niche in magic and wetland studies, he and Niobe have a child: Cedric Jr. With a bright future certain, and wizardry greatness assured, life in the Kaftan house was happy indeed. Set around the time of World War I, a young Irish woman, age 21, named Niobe has a marriage arranged for her by her parents. Her husband-to-be is a sixteen year old boy named Cedric Kaftan. She considers him too immature for her, but can find no way out of the marriage. Although Niobe at first hates being married to a "child", Cedric's good nature, kind heartedness, and desire to make his wife happy and safe win her over, and she soon falls madly in love with her husband.
Today the kaftan is designed to be more tight and cut closer to the body, to better fit the silhouette, as a result, it has become a modern and elegant garment, easy to wear, but adorned with a prestige that derives its origins from the legendary past. It remains the privileged item of clothing for Moroccan women, whether young or old. The Moroccan caftan is now a skillful combination of elegance, refinement and comfort, yet the past is not denied. The magician, who has done a great deal of research, feels that Zane is the best candidate for the Incarnation of Death to fall in love with Luna and thus want to protect her. The only way for the magician Kaftan to meet with Death without Satan's knowledge is to die with his soul in balance. The magician chooses to sacrifice his own life to introduce Zane to Luna and explain to Zane the circumstances which brought him into the office of Death. The dead magician's plans however seem to go awry.
On the western (upstream) faces of the triangular buttresses is a series of reliefs that have been interpreted by Estelle Whelan as Qarā Arslān's khāṣṣakiyya (his page corps or bodyguard). Five reliefs remain out of a total that Whelan estimates was originally eight, two on each of the four upstream walls of the two main piers. Each shows a single human figure carved on a vertical block and set into the middle course of masonry. The western pier shows a standing human figure wearing a kaftan, boots and hat known as a sharbush.
As the Cybermen emerge, Klieg reveals that he and Kaftan belong to the Brotherhood of Logicians, a cult that possess great intelligence but no physical power. He believes the Cybermen will be grateful for their revival and will ally themselves with the Brotherhood to conquer the universe. After they awaken, the Cybermen revive their leader, the Cyber-Controller, and take the group as prisoners. The Doctor realizes that the tombs are actually an elaborate trap, with the Cybermen keeping themselves frozen until they were revived and rebuild their invasion force to conquer Earth.
After it murders Kaftan, Toberman breaks free of the Cybermen's conditioning and apparently disables it. Whilst he, the Doctor and Jamie return to once again freeze the tombs, Klieg, unable to accept the Cybermen will not forge his alliance, tries to stop them, only to be murdered by a remaining Cyberman. After Toberman destroys it, the Doctor activates the tombs, hoping that the Cybermen will stay there for good. The Doctor reseals the tombs and sets up counter measures to ensure the Cybermen will not be revived again.
Moments later, she reappears on the catwalk, now wearing a red-leather bodysuit with a blonde fringe continuing to dance to the music. Soon, these scenes are inter cut with the singer lying on a beach chair overlooking the shore with wet hair, an orange swimsuit and vibrant orange lipstick. After the fashion show, Lopez now appears on the beach in Saint-Tropez, partying and dancing with Pitbull and everyone else, now clothed in a loose green kaftan. Towards the end of the clip, more settings are shown.
Nikita Nikitich Lisitsyn () was a son of Nikita Nazarovich Lisitsyn and the next owner of Lisitsyn factory. He had a great success with his samovars at the pan-Russia Fair in Nizhny Novgorod and managed to sell much of the production to Bukhara and Khiva in Central Asia, where sphere-shaped samovars had become popular. In 1856 Nikita Lisitsyn received a medal and a kaftan in recognition of the quality of his samovars. In 1863 Lisitsyn participated in an exhibition, organised on the arrival of a son of Alexander II of Russia to Tula.
Louise Sandberg is a Danish born fashion designer and polo player based in London, UK. In 2003 Louise started to collaborate with the St. Barth's based French designer Donale. Together they were among the first to bring out the concept of specific holiday and cruise wear fashion collections. This was the first time the kaftan was to be seen as a beachwear fashion item. The idea took off and within months the designs had a cult following being seen on celebrities including Madonna, Heidi Klum and Jodie Kidd.
Whatever successor entity survived, it could no longer function as a bulwark against the pressure east and south of nomad expansions. In this period men wore outer items such as 'mintan' (a vest or short jacket), 'zıbın', 'şalvar' (trousers), 'kuşak' (a sash), 'potur', an entari or kaftan (a long robe), 'kalpak', 'sarık' on the head; 'çarık', çizme (boots), 'çedik', 'Yemeni' on the feet.
Another region that largely influenced modern Islamic dress is Turkey. It was different from Arabic dress in that " traditional Turkish ensemble for either men or women consisted of loose fitting trousers (şalvar, don) and a shirt (gömlek), topped by a variety of jackets (cebken), vests (yelek), and long coats (entâri, kaftan, üç etek)." Something these two regions had in common with their dress is that what people wore was an indication of their social status. In Arabic regions such as Iraq and Palestine, the way men covered their heads, turban or shawl, was related to their status.
Russian culture and people were much influenced by the Asian nomads in the Russian steppe and the adjoining steppes and deserts. The steppe culture of Russia was shaped in Russia through cross-cultural contact mostly by Slavic, Tatar-Turkic, Mongolian and Iranian people. In addition to ethnicity, also instruments such as the domra, traditional costumes such as kaftan, sarafan, Russian Cossack and tea culture were strongly influenced by the culture of Asian nomadic peoples. The Eurasian steppes play a major role in Russia's more than 1000-year-old history, so that the steppes are a subject of many Russian folk songs.

"Beach chic" was the title of an article in 2006 by the Times fashion editor Lisa Armstrong about shopping for accessories to accompany a bikini.Times Magazine, 22 July 2006 These included a "cover-up" (e.g. a kaftan), flat sandals, a hat, a fake tan and - with the comforting footnote, "No, you will not look like a WAG [wife or girlfriend of a footballer]" - denture cleaner to whiten finger-nails. The Sunday Times referred to the Moroccan resort of Essaouira as the "boho/barefoot-chic beach" (the latter possibly a play on the term, "bare- faced cheek").

Many family members used the title "Medveczei és Kis Bisterczei" or "Kis Bisterczai és Medveczei" referred as "Medveczky from Medvedzie" and "Maly Bysterec" or vice versa till the end of World War I. After World War I, the main head of the family used the title of the Right Honourable Count Medveczky, indicating their nobility whilst living abroad. Some family members changed their surname at the end of eighteenth and in the nineteenth century for various reasons. As a result, some new family names emerged, for example Ursínyi, Medve, Medvesy, Bäer, Kaftan, Tomovics, Laurovics. These surnames were used for longer or shorter periods of time.
Kaftan-Kassim helped establish the astronomy program at the University of Baghdad, advising on texts and hiring. She returned to Baghdad in the mid-1970s to advise on the construction of Iraq's National Astronomical Observatory, near Erbil, and was a project manager there, before she lost her position in 1981 in a shifting political context. "Sammarynda Deep" won the 2008 Aurealis Award for best fantasy short story and was a short-list nominee for 2009 Ditmar Award for best short story but lost to Margo Lanagan's "The Goosle".
He released his debut album Wringing Applause, recorded with Terry Manning, on the Ardent Records label (also home of Big Star) in 1973, but it was to be a further six years until he found success in the United Kingdom chart. Morrison dismissed these photos as "rubbish". However, Johnny Rogan commented that the front cover looks far worse; it included a "hilarious" image of Morrison in a full- length kaftan.
Uzbek clothing includes a loose-fitting cotton coat, called Chapan or Kaftan, which is usually made from a variety of colorful stripes, or other types of patterns. The chapan is usually of knee length, and includes different elements in various regions of the country. The botton of the sleeves, center edges, hem and neckline of the coat ate sown with a decorative braid, which was believed to protect from "evil powers". The actual displays, with photographs and caricatures, focused on antisemitic canards in presenting the Jewish attempts at bolshevising Nazi Germany. It was best exemplified in the exhibition poster presenting an 'eastern' Jew wearing a kaftan and holding gold coins in one hand and a whip in the other. The exhibition attracted 412,300 visitors, over 5,000 per day.

Morocco has preserved its ancestral craftsmanship and expertise such as weaving, embroidery and trimmings like the Ben Cherif family who maintained the back-strap weaving technique, the making of gold and silver thread and embroidery, which is currently experiencing a clear development. The Moroccan Jewish kaftan, is that of Fez made of gold thread embroidery called "n’taâ". The Moroccan stylists were able to adapt their skills to the changing times.

The country's vast cultural diversity spans ethnic Russians with their Slavic Orthodox traditions, Tatars and Bashkirs with their Turkic Muslim culture, Buddhist nomadic Buryats and Kalmyks, Shamanistic peoples of the Extreme North and Siberia, highlanders of the Northern Caucasus, and Finno- Ugric peoples of the Russian North West and Volga Region. Handicraft, like Dymkovo toy, khokhloma, gzhel and palekh miniature represent an important aspect of Russian folk culture. Ethnic Russian clothes include kaftan, kosovorotka and ushanka for men, sarafan and kokoshnik for women, with lapti and valenki as common shoes.
It appears that the rank retained this high position for the remainder of the Byzantine Empire's existence. Not only the minorities in Russia but the Russian culture as a whole has in the different regions of the country like in Northwest Russia, Central Russia, Southern Russia, Siberian Russia, Volga Russia, Ural Russia, Far East Russia and the Russian North Caucasus and their Oblasts own local traditions and characteristics which were developed over a long period of time through strong ethno-cultural interactions within the various groups and communities, like Slavs, Tatars and Finno-Ugrics. Traditional Russian clothes include kaftan, a cloth which Old Russia had in common with similar robes in the Ottoman Empire, Scandinavia and Persia.
The highest symbol of power was the bulawa or mace carried by hetmans and kish-otamans. For example, Bohdan Khmelnytsky already from 1648 carried a silver gold-covered bulawa decorated with pearls and other valuable gem stones. The cossack colonels had pernachs (shestopers) - smaller ribbed bulawas which were carried behind a belt. The takshita (, alternate spellings: taqchita, tackshita, tackchita) is a Moroccan traditional women's garment that, like the Moroccan Kaftan, is worn for celebrations, particularly weddings. It is composed of two pieces, a dress as a first layer called "Tahtia", often of fine but not ornately decorated fabric, and a more elaborate second layer or over-dress that often buttons up the front using the traditional sfifa and akaad closures and it is called "Dfina". The upper layer is often richly adorned with embroidery, beading or sequins. Moroccan women wearing takchita Modern interpretations of traditional Moroccan clothing, particularly the Takchita, Caftan and Jellaba are exhibited at the annual Caftan fashion show in Morocco and hosted by the Moroccan fashion magazine Femmes du Maroc.
Entrance to Clock Museum in Palais Obizzi The Vienna Clock Museum in the Palais Obizzi in the Innere Stadt, founded in 1917, is one of the most important of its kind on Europe. On the ground floor are displayed the collections of the museum's first and long- time director, Rudolf Kaftan, and of the poet Marie von Ebner-Eschenbach. During the Second World War, the "House of Ten Thousand Clocks", as it is also known, was closed and attempts were made to disperse the valuable clocks for safety to various castles in Lower Austria, with only partial success. After the war, work began on rebuilding the collection; thanks to funds from the City of Vienna and private donations, it has been possible to add a few additional rarities to the collection.

His distinctive court dress and insignia during this time were a brimmed hat called skiadion of white silk, a silk long kaftan-like kabbadion, and for ceremonies and festivities, a domed skaranikon hat of white and gold silk, with gold-wire embroidery and decorated with images of the emperor in the front and back.

Indeed, this dress appeared in the 13th century at the time of the Marinid dynasty, when it was worn by Moroccan royalty.
The Dalton minimum in the 400-year history of sunspot numbers The Dalton Minimum was a period of low sunspot count, representing low solar activity, named after the English meteorologist John Dalton, lasting from about 1790 to 1830Komitov and Kaftan 2004 or 1796 to 1820,Archibald, p. 32 corresponding to the period solar cycle 4 to solar cycle 7. Many female kurgan obelisks (and some male) are naked above the belt, but below a belt and dress are visible, sometimes two dresses, one longer underneath, and another on the top, as a semi-'kaftan' or a short furcoat, with appliques and inserts (the ornaments of inserts consist of geometrical lines, double spirals, etc., or even cuirass). Boubou (or Agbada), a traditional robe symbolic of West Africa In contrast to other parts of the continent south of the Sahara Desert, the concepts of hemming and embroidering clothing have been traditionally common to West Africa for centuries, demonstrated by the production of various breeches, shirts, tunics and jackets. As a result, the peoples of the region's diverse nations wear a wide variety of clothing with underlying similarities. Typical pieces of west African formal attire include the knee-to-ankle-length, flowing Boubou robe, Dashiki, and Senegalese Kaftan (also known as Agbada and Babariga), which has its origins in the clothing of nobility of various West African empires in the 12th century. Traditional half-sleeved, hip-long, woven smocks or tunics (known as fugu in Gurunsi, riga in Hausa) – worn over a pair of baggy trousers—is another popular garment.
Eugene Tzigane conducted two concerts in the Tonhalle Zürich, works by Dvořák and Tschaikovsky on 3 May 2010, and Carl Maria von Weber's ouverture to Der Freischütz, Mozart's Clarinet concerto with Sebastian Manz, and Beethoven's Symphony No. 7 on 4 May 2010. Tzigane conducted the concerts marking the orchestra's 60th anniversary in October 2010, Don Juan of Richard Strauss, the Violin Concerto of Erich Korngold, with soloist Philippe Quint, and the Symphony in D minor of César Franck. In November 2010 the orchestra took part in a performance in the Berlin Philharmonie of Hans Krása's: Die Erde ist des Herrn... and Ein deutsches Requiem of Brahms. In 2017, Dirk Kaftan conducted the first series of concerts, performing Alban Berg's Violin Concerto with Liza Ferschtman as soloist, and Bruckner's Fourth Symphony at seven locations, including Hamm and Marburg.

The Tomb of the Cybermen is the first serial of the fifth season of the British science fiction television series Doctor Who, which was originally broadcast in four weekly parts on BBC1 from 2 to 23 September 1967. In the serial, the time traveller the Second Doctor (Patrick Troughton) and his travelling companions Jamie McCrimmon (Frazer Hines) and Victoria Waterfield (Deborah Watling) get caught up in an expedition to the planet Telos, where the financiers of the expedition, Eric Klieg (George Pastell) and Kaftan (Shirley Cooklin) intend to revitalise the Cybermen that are buried in the underground tombs there in exchange for the Cybermen sharing their power. It is the earliest serial starring Troughton as the Second Doctor, as well as the only Cyberman story produced in the 60s, known to exist in its entirety. It also introduces the Cyber Controller and the Cybermats.
Since 2001, Letellier has taught jazz at L'Ecole de Musique in Echternach. In 2002, George Letellier co-composed with the famed Luxembourg rocker Serge Tonnar the musical "Alice Under Ground" produced by MASKéNADA which was performed at the Wiltz Festival in the summer of 2002. In 2007 he performed at the Indigo Jazz and Blues Festival in Bangalore, supporting Sascha Ley in a band composed of himself on piano, Marc Demuth on acoustic bass, Johannes Müller on soprano / tenor sax, Anne Kaftan on soprano sax and bass clarinet and Benoît Martiny on drums.
