In an interview with AOL's JSYK, Ryan commented: "It is the perfect song for 4th of July weekend, and we hope everyone loves it!". On July 6, 2011 the singer revealed in her official Twitter that she took the photo and designed the artwork for the single cover. Ryan said that the concept of the single cover, the line train, it's about moving on and that life never stops at just one Train station. "We Ended Right" was released exclusively for radio premiere on July 1, 2011 on AOL Radio and had good reception.

In 2010 and 2011, she was recognized as the worst celebrity influence by JSYK, an AOL-owned service, presumably considering a series of sexually-inappropriate pictures and leaked footage of Cyrus smoking Salvia divinorum. In contrast, Cyrus's friend Kelly Osbourne described that such reports "could not be farther from the truth", adding that "she has learned her lesson" after her Salvia divinorum incident. In 2012, Joe Paul Wilson from the Culture and Media Institute criticized her for "[becoming] the epitome of the anti-role model for young girls" after establishing a following through her "wholesome" persona as Hannah Montana.

Inside each issue of CosmoGirl, there was an interview and photo shoot with a current celebrity, a beauty section featuring hair, skin, and makeup tips and trends, a fashion section highlighting various spreads of trends and clothes, and the Stars section which included articles on celebrities other than those featured on the cover. A monthly free calendar allowed readers to win various prizes by typing in a code to enter for a chance to win a prize on the magazine's website. There was also a section introduced in March 2008 named JSYK (Just So You Know), which had advice and stories of how readers fell in love, and a shocking real-life story. There were also embarrassing stories, and a manga comic featuring a character named CG. The magazine's content was rounded out with the Body & Soul section, which covered sexual health, mental health, fitness, and nutrition.
