Ames' collection also included "Pointer Dog" by Constant Troyon, "Tiger Hunt" by Eugène Fromentin, several landscapes by Charles-François Daubigny, and several other paintings by French Romanticists.
According to Jayne Paasch writing for the Sparta Township Historical Commison: :One of the most poignant stories of the day was when Phil remembered the last time the Jades played together, still so very clear in his mind today. It was Christmas break 1968 and they played a party at the Civic Center here in Sparta. The reason he remembers that night is because it was the night he said good-by to Craig Yates, a classmate who was about to leave for Viet Nam. Craig died the following May 29.
The is a Japanese order, established on February 11, 1937. The order has one class only, and may be awarded to men and women for contributions to Japan's art, literature, science, technology, or anything related to culture in general; recipients of the order also receive an annuity for life. The order is conferred by the Emperor of Japan in person on Culture Day (November 3) each year. The badge of the order, which is in gold with white enamel, is in the form of a Tachibana orange blossom; the central disc bears three crescent- shaped jades (magatama).
During the Great Cycle, the Danans were succeeded by the Merfolk, the Reptiles, the Giants and finally by the Humans. At the start of the game, fifteen days remain before the coming of a new Rudra and the end of humanity begins. The characters Sion, Surlent, Riza and Dune each come into possession of a Jade, a treasure discovered in the Lago Stones. It is later revealed that Gomorrah requires the Jades in addition to other treasures to create a perfect Rudra, and that a weapon known as Sodom destroys every successive race from its lair on the moon.
He sent his buyers to Japan and China, bringing back exotic rugs, porcelains, silks, bronzes and jades to California's new millionaires. Richard Gump, one of A.L.’s three children, eventually became president of Gump's after his father's death in 1947. He continued the family legacy, running the company's overall operations until his retirement in 1975. Gump's was sold to publisher Crowell Collier, which after further mergers became Macmillan Publishers. By June 1989, Gump's had again been sold,Isadore Barmash, "Business People; Gump's Specialty Stores Said to Fill Top Position",The New York Times, August 1, 1989.
The Le Sabres, named for the Buick automobile, were active in the early 1960s and recorded "Rising Mercury Twist" in 1961. Moving into the mid-1960s is the Escapades' "Tell No Lies", an archetypal garage rock song, while the Jades' "Ain't Got You" is an upbeat frat rock number. Shadden & The King Lears do the haunting ballad "All I Want Is You", which features a sadly lyrical, wailing saxophone played by stand-in musician Newell Tuggle. The surf instrumental, "Mysterians", by Jimmy Tarbutton is perhaps the strangest cut on the record, conjuring up images of outer space creatures.
Eventually their touring itinerary came to include the entire Michigan area. In 1965 the Jades' bassist Craig Clarke got job working at the Great Lakes recording studio, which was located in the Sparta Theater, an historic palace theater, which served the dual purpose of movie venue and recording studio. It was owned by Dave Kalmback, who was the proprietor of Fenton Records and with its high ceilings, was known for having spacious acoustics, which can be heard on many Fenton recordings. The studio also had an eight-track source tape machine, which was ahead of its time for the mid-1960s.

Her research is focused on fracture in brittle materials and mechanisms by which they can be strengthened and toughened. Her current work comprises research into characterizing the behavior of high-temperature ceramic coatings under cyclic thermal loading, which has applications in improving engine efficiency and wear; and the creation of high-temperature porous ceramics with increased strength and toughness, which have applications in filtration, energy storage, insulation, and medical devices. Her research interests also include silicon- based ceramics and ceramic matrix composites; polymer-derived multifunctional ceramics; graphite- and silicon carbide-based cellular ceramics synthesized from natural scaffolds, such as pyrolyzed wood; and cultural heritage science, with emphasis on porcelains and jades.
Floyd Johnson, a country music fan, would occasionally play on the piano located on the stage in the schools' gym while the band was practicing there in hopes that they would ask him to join, which they eventually did—he later became their official keyboard player. The Jades' primary influences were British Invasion bands such as the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, the Animals, the Yardbirds, and Them, featuring Van Morrison. Clarke was fourteen when the band formed and, unlike the other band members who were self-trained, he had taken lessons in classical guitar, but switched to bass. Lead guitarist Phil Succup had a truck and provided with transportation.
It was released in February 1967 and was followed in June with "Surface World", another protest song, this time written by Siegel and Clarke, backed with "We've Got Something Going", a catchy dance number. The group recorded several unissued songs, such as "Backlash" and "down Home" which are believed to be lost. After the release of their second single, Dave Kalmback became the group's manager, and he attempted to secure the group with bigger and better-paying live dates, but by 1968 Clarke, Siegel, and guitarist Phil Succop enrolled in various colleges, diminishing the group's productivity. The Jades played their last performance in late 1968.
"Revival Tour 2009 Compilation at Vinyl Collective" The band played notable festivals such as the Open House Festival, the Pickathon, the San Francisco Bluegrass and Old-Time Festival, and Seattle's Folklife Festival."Folklife 2010 Schedule" They have performed on stage with artists as diverse as Frank Turner, Kitty, Daisy, and Lewis, Chuck Ragan, the Crooked Jades, and the Foghorn Stringband, and shared bills with groups ranging from Hayseed Dixie to Old Crow Medicine Show. In late 2011 banjo player Cory Goldman left the band, and the band changed their name to Water Tower. In March 2013, Josh Rabie announced that he was leaving the band to pursue other interests.

In addition, Sailey (1978:509-545) included appendices on "Buddhism and the Pao-p'u-tzu", "Biography of Ko Hung" from the Jin Shu, and "Recensions" of lost Baopuzi fragments quoted in later texts.
The bird seal script was also used occasionally in the Han Dynasty seals (mainly the jade seals), as well as a few eaves tiles and bricks.《鸟虫篆印技法解析》(The Analyses on the Techniques of Bird- Worm Script Seals), by Gu Songzhang(谷松章); , ChongQin Press The worm seal script is more common in, and probably originated from the Wu Kingdom (now roughly Jiangsu Province) or Chu Kingdom (now roughly Hunan Province and Hubei Province). Examples can be seen on antique bronze weapons, containers, jades, and seals (mainly the bronze seals of Han Dynasty),Hudong.com Chinese Encyclopedia: The seal of bird-worm script and constructional or decorative parts like tiles, etc.
These brighter coloured 'Greywings' were very popular in Australia and were preferred to the more subdued shades of the true Greywing. In the mid-1930s there was considerable debate about the nature of these brighter Australian 'Greywings', some maintaining that they were a distinct mutation and others insisting that they were obtained by selective breeding from normal Greywings and/or Dilutes. The 'Greywings' with almost full body colour and light wing markings were known throughout Australia as Jades in the green series and Royals in the blue series. The latter name originated from a pair of 'Greywing' Cobalts (of the type with intense body colour) which were presented to HM King George V in, it is believed, 1935.
Brushes of various sizes and types of hair, including one of chicken feathers at the top The earliest intact ink brush was found in 1954 in the tomb of a Chu citizen from the Warring States period (475-221 BCE) located in an archaeological dig site Zuo Gong Shan 15 near Changsha (長沙). The primitive version of an ink brush found had a wooden stalk and a bamboo tube securing the bundle of hair to the stalk. Legend wrongly credits the invention of the ink brush to the later Qin general Meng Tian. Traces of the writing brush, however, were discovered on the Shang jades, and were suggested to be the grounds of the oracle bone inscriptions.
Pope-Henessey, Chapter II. The most prominent early use was the crafting of the Six Ritual Jades, found since the 3rd-millennium Liangzhu culture: the bi, the cong, the huang, the hu, the gui, and the zhang.Pope-Henessey, Chap. IV. Although these items are so ancient that their original meaning is uncertain, by the time of the composition of the Rites of Zhou, they were thought to represent the sky, the earth, and the four directions. By the Han dynasty, the royal family and prominent lords were buried entirely ensheathed in jade burial suits sewn in gold thread, on the idea that it would preserve the body and the souls attached to it.
The idea for the museum came about when Mr. and Mrs. Crow decided they would like to keep the collection intact as a legacy for their children and grandchildren, and the general public. The artwork, which ranges from including examples of Chinese jades, Buddhist sculpture, and Japanese screen paintings, had been displayed in lobbies, reception, and office areas of the Trammell Crow Center, other office buildings, marts, hotels, and in the homes of the Crows and their children prior to the formation of a museum. "Because the art was scattered between commercial buildings and our families' homes, we had little notion of what kind of a collection we had until pieces were gathered for the exhaustive selection process," Mrs.
Mr. He's jade or Heshibi (和氏璧) was one of the most famous jades in Chinese history. In the mid-8th century BCE, Bian He (卞和) of Chu discovered an unworked piece of valuable jade and presented it to two successive kings, each of whom judged the jade to be a worthless stone and punished his apparent deception with a foot amputation. When the jade was finally cut and polished into a ritual bi (璧, "jade-disk with a round hole in center") it was recognized as a priceless treasure. Mr. He's jade-disk became an object of contention among the Warring States, it was stolen from Chu circa the 4th century BCE, acquired by the Zhao, and temporarily traded to Qin in 283 BCE.

The Six Ritual Jades originating in pre-history were the bi (a flat disk with a hole in its center), the cong (prismatic tube), the huang (a flat, half-ring pendant), the hu, the flat, bladelike gui, and the zhang. The original names, value and functions of these objects have invited much speculation. The Zhou Li, itself probably compiled in the Han Dynasty, ascribes the circular bi as representing the heavens, the cong as representing the earth, the gui the east, the zhang the south, the hu the west and the huang the north. Although over two millennia old these names and symbolism were given to these objects by much later writers, who interpreted the objects in a way that reflected their own understanding of the cosmos.
6\. Zhōnggǔ: I know that : what was kept in the common households would all be available to the ruler, without its being hoarded in the treasury to enable the ruler to claim, "This is my wealth"; : what is stored in the farm and fields would all be accessible to the ruler, without its being accumulated in the vaults to enable the ruler to claim, "These are my possessions." With inexhaustible availability, what worry is there for failure to respond to demand? With inexhaustible supplies, what anxiety is there for lack of preparedness in emergency? 7\. Hòugǔ: The sacrificial animals and ritual cereals are plentiful to be used in religious offerings; and the jades and silks are abundant to be used as tributes and diplomatic gifts.
The museum collection holds important collections of Asian art, most notably, archaic Chinese jades (the widest collection outside of China) and Japanese surimono, as well as outstanding Chinese bronzes, ceremonial weapons, Buddhist cave-temple sculptures, ceramics from China and Korea, Japanese works on paper, and lacquer boxes, and ancient Iranian metalwork. The ancient Mediterranean and Byzantine collections comprise significant works in all media from Greece, Rome, Egypt, and the Near East. Strengths include Greek vases, small bronzes, and coins from throughout the ancient Mediterranean world. The museum also holds works on paper from Islamic lands and India, including paintings, drawings, calligraphy, and manuscript illustrations, with particular strength in Rajput art, as well as important Islamic ceramics from the 8th through to the 19th century.
Some modern sinologists familiar with early Chinese alchemy and glass production, such as Joseph Needham and Wang Ling, interpret suihou as an "old alchemical pun" meaning "following the [fire-]times", reading sui in its basic meaning "follow; comply with" and hóu (侯, "marquis") as a phonetic loan character for hòu (候, "time; wait; situation"), denoting the term huǒhou (火候, "fire-times; times when heating should begin and end"), which were "both ancient and important in Chinese alchemy." The Cantong qi uses Yijing hexagrams to express alchemical "fire-times" (Needham and Wang 1956: 330). This Lunheng context contrasts two genuine/artificial pairs: first jades and pearls as gemstones, then yangsui ("burning lenses") and brightly polished swords as fire starters. Compare the following English translations.
The Chinese characters 琅 and 玕 used to write the gemstone name lánggān are classified as radical-phonetic characters that combine the semantically significant "jade radical" 玉 or 王 (commonly used to write names of jades or gemstones) and phonetic elements hinting at pronunciation. Láng 琅 combines the "jade radical" with liáng 良 "good; fine" (interpreted to denote "fine jade") and gān 玕 combines it with the phonetic gān 干 "stem; trunk". The Chinese word yù 玉 is usually translated as "jade" but in some contexts translates as "fine ornamental stone; gemstone; precious stone", and can refer to a variety of rocks that carve and polish well, including jadeite, nephrite, agalmatolite, bowenite, and serpentine (Desautels 1977: 81). Modern written Chinese láng 琅 and gān 玕 have variant Chinese characters.

The Society continues to provide academic and introductory lectures throughout the year on all aspects of Asian art, in particular on Chinese ceramics, jades, paintings and Middle Eastern art. It hosts handling sessions of items from the main London museums, such as the British Museum and the Victoria and Albert Museum, as well as members’ collections. It has traditionally organised outings to English country houses, visits to private collections, guided tours to exhibitions as well as overseas trips as a means to promote the subject and as an educational resource. The Society currently has members throughout the world, and its meetings in London are mostly held on the premises of the Society of Antiquaries, next to the Royal Academy of Arts, Piccadilly (although activities are also organised in New York).
The Greywing variety was gradually established during the 1920s in Germany, France, Great Britain and Australia, although in Australia the appearance of the Clearwing mutation in Greywing stock soon afterwards led to the two mutations intermingling. In the early 1920s birds of this variety were known variously as Jades, Apple Greens, May Greens or Satinettes in the green series and as Pearls or Silverwings in the blue series. One of the first tasks of the newly established Colour Committee of the British Budgerigar Society was to sort out this confusion of names, and on their recommendation the standard name 'Greywing' was adopted. By the late 1920s the Greywing had been recognised by the British Budgerigar Society as a standard variety, and most of the top breeders had stocks.

The Asian collection includes Chinese architecture, jades,Among these is a 1784 piece believed to be the largest historic jade sculpture outside of China.
Uncut jade Bi jade-disk with dragon designs, 4th-2nd century BCE Many Chinese classics refer to the Marquis of Sui's pearl in context with other legendary gems, jades, and swords associated with the ceremonial regalia of ancient Chinese states. Suíhóuzhū (隨侯珠, "the Marquis of Sui's pearl") has a literary synonym Suíhóuzhīzhū (隨侯之珠) with the Classical Chinese grammatical possessive affix zhī (之). Suí (隨, lit. "follow; pursue; comply with; adapt to") is the name of a small ancient state during the Shang and Western Zhou dynasties, located in present-day Suizhou, Hubei—not to be confused with the Sui dynasty (隋, 581–618 CE). Sui was originally one of the Ji states (11th-7th centuries BCE) and became a vassal state of Chu (Hawkes 1985: 336) .
By the mid 19th century the caravans of' Yunnanese traders ranged over an area extending from the eastern frontiers of Tibet, through Assam, Burma, Thailand, Laos and Tongkin (presently part of Vietnam), to the southern Chinese provinces of Sichuan, Guizhou and Guangxi. The merchandise brought from Yunnan by the Panthay caravaneers included silk cloth, tea, metal utensils, iron in the rough, felts, finished articles of' clothing, walnuts, opium, wax, preserved fruits and foods, and dried meat of' several kinds. The Burmese goods taken back to Yunnan were raw cotton, raw and wrought silk, amber, jades and other precious stones, velvets, betel-nuts, tobacco, gold-leaf', preserves, paps, dye woods, stick lac, ivory, and specialized foodstuffs such as slugs, edible birds’ nests, among other things.(Anderson, 1876, 4) Raw cotton, which was reserved as a royal monopoly, was in great demand in China.
Reed's first recording was as a member of a doo-wop three-piece group called the Jades, with Reed providing guitar accompaniment and singing backing vocals. After participating at a talent show at Freeport Junior High School in early 1958, and receiving an enthusiastic response from the audience, the group was given the chance to record an original single "So Blue" with the B-side "Leave Her for Me" later that year. While the single didn't chart, notable saxophonist King Curtis was brought in as a session musician by the producer Bob Shad to play on both songs, and the single was played by a substitute DJ during the Murray the K radio show, which gave Reed his first- ever airplay. Reed's love for playing music and his desire to play gigs brought him into confrontation with his anxious and unaccommodating parents.
Zhū (珠, "pearl; gem; bead; orb") is used in many Chinese names for shining pearls/gems, such as yèmíngzhū (夜明珠, "night-luminous pearl"), yèguāngzhū (夜光珠, "night-shining pearl"), and míngyuèzhū (明月珠, "luminous-moon pearl"), which is exemplified by Marquis of Sui's pearl. Suihouzhu ("Marquis of Sui's pearl") frequently occurs in context with one of the most famous jades of Chinese antiquity, Héshìbì (和氏璧) or Héshìzhībì (和氏之璧, both meaning "Clan He's jade-disk"). > Bian He 卞和 was a man from the late Warring States Period [8th century BCE] > who came upon a stone containing a rare piece of jade. However, when he > presented it to King Li of Chu, it was judged to be a fake, and he was > punished by having his left foot cut off.

Sparta High School's choir director Bob Stiles and Arnie DePagter, a Spanish teacher and coach, helped the band get gigs. The Jades first performance was at the Spanish Fiesta event held at the Sparta High School gym. The band worked occasional parties and became popular in the Tri-County region, regularly playing at high school dances in Rockford, Sparta, Rogers, Cedar Springs, Coppersville, Lowell, and other elsewhere and eventually toured statewide. For two summers they performed three nights a week at a club in Hess Lake and competed in several Battle of the Bands contests, winning one held at the Grand Rapids Civic Auditorium (also attended by the Quests form Grand Rapids) and coming in second in another held at the Black & Silver Room to a crowd of over a thousand, where they reached the semi-finals in the playoffs and were awarded $150.

Ferguson donated many pieces to the Metropolitan Museum of Art, but the bulk of his own collection, including bronzes, scrolls, paintings, and jades, was donated to Nanjing University in 1935, and other major gifts were made which are now in the collections of Shanghai Jiao Tong University. Thomas Lawton, Senior Research Scholar at the Freer Gallery, concludes that Ferguson made errors which in light of later scholarship seem "naive and inexplicable," but "more significant than his mistakes are his remarkable contributions" and that "anyone who studies Chinese art and culture today quickly becomes aware of a profound debt" owed to him. The historian Warren Cohen concludes that Freer and Ferguson were primarily responsible for the "golden age" of East Asian art collecting. Freer's money and taste combined with Ferguson's connections and connoisseurship to make it possible for the American public to see and for American scholars to study a much wider and more representative body of art, and led directly to a shift in American taste away from decorative and ornate works.
