There are typically around 45 pieces in a set and made of wood, plastic, bone, or ivory. Mason orders another scientist, Joss, to stay behind and try to repair the radio so that a field expedition can be contacted. The dead passenger is determined to be a military courier; soon after that the wreck goes up in flames. Mason leaves with the group along with the other scientist, Jackstraw, while remaining in touch with their station by means of a short range radio. Meanwhile, the field expedition returns to the station and contacts Mason.

The band began when The Decemberists' Chris Funk (dobro) and Nate Query (bass) had some time off from touring and decided to put together a side project. Other members of the band include The Decemberists' accordion player Jenny Conlee and drummer John Moen, singer and violinist Annalisa Tornfelt of Bearfoot and The Woolwines, and guitarist Jon Neufeld of Dolorean and Jackstraw. The band performed at the South by Southwest festival in March 2010, Oregon's Pickathon Festival in August 2010, and toured in October 2010.

This chill zone may represent a chill zone which infers an intrusive origin for the ultramafic, or it may represent a zone of metasomatism and/or contamination. The orebody itself is composed of 2 to 6 metres of massive nickeliferous sulfides, usually banded and foliated pentlandite-pyrrhotite-pyrite. Dodecahedral pyrite crystals to 20 cm are formed within the massive sulfide zones. The massive zone is overlain by a matrix ore zone composed of the above sulfide assemblage and coarse jackstraw textured bladed olivine, now retrogressed to black serpentinite.

In 1974, his first glass Harmonic Lyre made with PMMA altuglas cast was designed. He had the opportunity to play this instrument at the tenth Biennial event of Paris in 1977 at the Museum of Modern Art in Paris. This electroacoustic lyre consists of 18 strings and at least two micro-sensors for each of the strings. By 2010, he had successfully designed four harmonic lyres, 3 glass guitars of PMMA and carbon fiber neck, "water drums" for John Cage's creation with the " percussions of Strasbourg" (1989), as well as various other original instruments which include musical wind mills, wind chimes, kalimbé, musical jackstraw in bamboo for children, musical boomerangs, an acoustic game of bowls, and so on.
