The NS Sneltrein services are now called Intercity, but they stop more often than "real" Intercities. The result is that some stations (like Woerden) are served by some Intercities while others pass it. As of 2015, there are four Sneltrein services by Arriva.

Faro currently receives Alfa Pendular, Intercities and regional trains. Although Seville is less than 200km away, Faro does not have any railway connection crossing the border to Spain.

New York took entries from the East Coast, Chicago from the Central US, and, by 1932, West Coast cities were represented by the Intercities championships and competed in the Golden Gloves Tournaments of Champions. (Intercities champions had to be sponsored by a newspaper or radio station in order to compete.) In 1962, further changes lead to the eventual creation of the "Golden Gloves of America, Inc." By that time, boxing was no longer needed to sell sports pages during the winter. Boxing matches became too expensive for the newspapers to sponsor, and the pay-off in sales revenues no longer made it feasible.

Jundiaí is a train station on CPTM Line 7-Ruby, located in the district of Vila Arens in Jundiaí. In the future, it should attend the Intercities Train line between Americana and Santos, being the first station with interchange to the railroad system of São Paulo.

At 1 October 1972, the Friedrich Schiller was added to this network, initially linking Stuttgart and Düsseldorf. The route was extended northward to Dortmund on 1 June 1975. During the 1970s, the introduction of second-class coaches in the Intercities was proposed and tested on some routes, resulting in the IC79 project.

CPTM studies the modernization of Água Branca station since its 2003 Director Plan. In 2010, the N&W; Arquitetos offices was hired to develop a station hybrid project, to attend the Line 6 project and CPTM future projects, such as São Paulo-Campinas Intercities Train and burial of the railway between Lapa and Brás.

Dronten is a Dutch railway station, on the Lelystad–Zwolle railway, also knowns as the Hanzelijn. The station is located in the north of Dronten. The station opened on 9 December 2012, with there being 2 platforms and 4 tracks, for passing Intercities from The Hague and to and . The station is located on a viaduct station at 7 m above street level.

The large panels of azulejo tile were designed by Jorge Colaço; the murals represent moments in the country's history and rural scenes showing the people of various regions. Porto is connected with Lisbon via high-speed trains, Alfa Pendular, that cover the distance in 2h 42min. The intercities take slightly more than 3 hours to cover the same distance. In addition, Porto is connected to the Spanish city of Vigo with the Celta train, running twice every day, a 2h 20 min trip.

Newer lines have been built to permit higher speeds. Trains are frequent, with one or two trains per hour on lesser lines, two to four trains per hour on rural sections and up to eight or 10 trains per hour in cities. There are two types of trains: stoptreinen (local trains, which Dutch Railways calls "sprinters") and InterCities, with faster long-distance service. An intermediate category (sneltreinen, "fast trains") began being discontinued in 2007, although regional operators continue to use the term.

During the 1970s the introduction of second-class coaches in intercities was proposed and studied resulting in the IC79 project. Because the Gambrinus was planned to remain a first-class only train it was branded as TEE on 28 May 1978 with trainnumbers TEE 15/14. On 29 May 1979 the trainnumbers were changed to TEE 18/19 and the route changed between Munich and Mainz. Instead of the northern route over Würzburg and the Main valley, the southern route calling at Stuttgart and Heidelberg was used.

The team of Lucky O'Shea, Matt Fairlane, and Chi Chi Cruz defeated the team of Marius, Rob Stardom, and DOOM. At "Pump Up the Volume 2010" on March 19, Cruz defeated Stardom in the main event. The next day on March 20 at "Winnipeg Warfare 2010", the match between Cruz and Stardom went to a no content after interference by Marius, Matt Fairlane, and the rest of the SPW roster which led into battle royal. Matt Fairlane won the Main Event Battle Royal to earn a shot at the Cutting Edge Wrestling Intercities Championship.

New York become one of the thirty or so franchises currently in existence today. The regional New York and Chicago Golden Gloves Championships were the two crown jewels of the boxing mecca of the United States for nearly 70 years. To the individual fighters and the public there was no better achievement than participating, and especially winning, in the New York–Chicago Golden Gloves matches. As television viewing grew, the Intercities champions rivaled the New York and Chicago champions and the country demanded a national champion, hoping for a winner from their region.

In 1971 the Deutsche Bundesbahn started an inner German network of first-class only InterCity services modeled after the Trans Europ Express (TEE) criteria, but more frequent than the TEE, one train per hour instead of one train a day. During the 1970s the introduction of second-class coaches in the Intercities was proposed and tested on some routes, resulting in the IC79 project.TEE Züge in Deutschland p. 130. The IC79 project was implemented at 28 May 1979, but seven inner German services, including a new train, the Bacchus, stayed first-class- only and were classed as TEE to distinguish them from the two-class InterCity.
