Tents were placed, with numerous attractions: panoptikum or collections of curios, okular ("funny" ocular lenses), magicians, fortune tellers, illusionists, etc. Ilija Božić performed here the very first Serbian puppet show, Kuku, Todore. In the mid-1920s the fair was displaced to Voždovac, an eastern suburb at the time, due to the impending construction of the art pavilion.

The 1995 film Restoration has a brief Three-card Monte sequence that utilizes a double turnover and flushtration (or "back") count. These magician's sleights fail to fool Meg Ryan's character Katherine. The film Now You See Me 2 features a life-sized version of the Three-card Monte performed by Jack Wilder (Dave Franco). The music video for Run DMC's 1987 song "It's Tricky" features illusionists Penn & Teller trying to scam people by performing the Three-card Monte in front of the Rialto Theater in Los Angeles.

The non-human telepath Pagadan is the main connecting link, appearing a secondary character in the first story, the main character in "The Illusionists" and makes a brief appearance in "The Truth About Cushgar". The book is currently available as Agent of Vega & Other Stories. This consists of the original four stories plus "The Custodians", "Gone Fishing", "The Beacon to Elsewhere", "The End of the Line", "Watch the Sky", "Greenface" and "Rogue Psi". None of these are set in the same universe as the Vega tales.

In an interview with Bloody Best of Fangoria in 1993, Clive Barker spoke of his story "The Last Illusion" and its movie adaptation Lord of Illusions and said, "I've always loved illusionists.

Elena Rossini is an Italian filmmaker, writer and artist best known for the documentary film The Illusionists. In October 2014, Rossini was selected for the Young Leaders program by the Council for the United States and Italy. Rossini is the founder and editor-in-chief of No Country for Young Women, a website that aims to provide "positive role models" for young girls. In 2014, Rossini and Elian Carsenat founded Gender Gap Grader – a platform empowering companies and organizations with innovative tools to measure the gender gap.

Michael Halvarson (born 30 July 1976, Stockholm) is a Swedish comedian, illusionist, and magician. His acts, centered on comedy, magic and stage pickpocketing,Theatre Review: Kooza, Variety November 20, 2007 have time and again become known throughout the World. In 2007, he started an international career becoming the first Swedish comedian ever to perform in a show by the world-famous Cirque du Soleil in the show Koozå, with performers. In 2012, Halvarson performed as 'The Trickster' in the Singapore run of the renowned magic show, The Illusionists.

Wax bullet cartridges do not provide enough force to cycle automatic firearms, so they are most commonly used in revolvers and other manually cycled firearms. Specially designed cartridges and conversion units can be combined to convert automatic firearms into wax bullet firing guns, and these are used for training police and military. In the past, wax bullets were used by illusionists for illusions involving firearms, such as the bullet catch. This practice goes back at least as far as Jean Eugène Robert-Houdin, who used hollow wax bullets colored to resemble lead balls.

Catholic stage magicians who practice Gospel Magic consider St. Nicholas Owen the patron saint of illusionists and escapologists, due to his facility at using "trompe l'oeil" when creating his hideouts and the fact that he masterminded the famous escape of Fr. John Gerard from the Tower of London. There are Roman Catholic churches dedicated to Saint Nicholas Owen in Little Thornton, Lancashire and Burton Latimer, Northamptonshire. The Roman Catholic school academy company that serves the Kidderminster, Hagley and Stourbridge areas near to Harvington Hall is named in his honour.

William Morton (24 January 1838 – 5 July 1938) was an amusement caterer, a theatre and cinema manager in England for 70 years. After an erratic start in Southport, Morton's career stabilised when he took on struggling illusionists Maskelyne and Cooke. He developed their careers, managed them for sixteen years, established them in the heart of London and presented them by Royal Command for Prince George's 14th birthday. For sixteen years he was manager of the Greenwich Theatre where he further speculated, developing theatrical businesses in southeast London and the provinces.

Moitié de polka (literally "Half polka") was a 1908 French short silent film by Georges Méliès. It was sold by Méliès's Star Film Company and is numbered 1386–1393 in its catalogues. Buatier de Kolta in 1902 Though the plot of the film is unknown, it may have been built around a parody of the famous illusionist Buatier de Kolta (born Joseph Buatier, 1845–1903). In the first decade of Méliès's directorship of the Théâtre Robert-Houdin, a Paris venue for stage illusionists, Buatier was considered one of the world’s major magicians.

The Now You See Me film series, consists of heist thriller films written by Ed Solomon, Boaz Yakin, and Edward Ricourt. The plot centers around the actions of a team of illusionists named "The Horsemen" who pull off near impossible heists. The series features an ensemble cast including Jesse Eisenberg, Mark Ruffalo, Woody Harrelson, Isla Fisher, Dave Franco, Michael Caine, Lizzy Caplan, and Morgan Freeman. The first film was released in 2013, while the second was released in 2016, and a third film is in development and set to be released in 2021.

Gaughan's reconstructed TurkJohn Gaughan (born 1940) is an American manufacturer of magic acts and equipment for magicians based in Los Angeles, California. His style of work is classic, not based heavily on machinery and technology. Great illusionists have noted his work, such as David Blaine, who has several times called him "a magical genius". He has built for people such as Alan Wakeling, Mark Wilson, Criss Angel, David Copperfield, David Blaine, Simon Drake, Doug Henning and The Doors, and is responsible for the construction of dozens of major acts.

Bishop also uses more humor in his shows than most illusionists, as well as a number of unique illusions, ranging in type from challenge magic to close-up magic, to manipulation magic. Throughout the performance, he invites a number of audience members, children and adults, to come onstage and assist in illusions. Bishop's show also contains a large amount of technologically advanced equipment, including plasma and LCD TV screens, iPods and iPhones, and a modern rock and pop music soundtrack that is continuously changing. With the use of modern technology and equipment, Bishop is often billed as "America's Hottest Illusionist".

Miles Bell (1946 – March 19, 2008) was a Nashville-based talent manager. Over his 30-year career, Bell represented a broad range of talents, from illusionists to boy bands. His client list included Little Richard, Jeff Foxworthy, Harry Blackstone, Jr., Cledus T. Judd, Don McLean, Janis Ian, Kool & the Gang, Mickey Gilley, Sandy Hackett, The Commodores, Menudo, Tenor Gregor Praecht, The Moffatts, Mr. T and many others. He was the executive director of 30 music videos of which two won the MTV Video Music Award for Video of the Year and two won the CMT Music Awards Video of the Year.

Metamorphosis is the name of a stage illusion invented by John Nevil Maskelyne, but most often associated with famous escape artist Harry Houdini and performed to some renown (for speed) by The Pendragons, among others. In the UK Safire Illusionists are very well known for performing a very fast variation of this illusion using a glass Substitution Trunk. It is also known amongst magicians as the Substitution Trunk (often abbreviated to Sub Trunk). In the illusion, an assistant (Houdini employed his wife Bess) is locked inside a large box or trunk, often after being restrained with handcuffs, ropes, bags, etc.

Demi-human races are given higher level maximums to increase their long-term playability, though they are still restricted in terms of character class flexibility. Character classes are organized into four groups: warrior (fighter, paladin, ranger), wizard (mage, specialist wizard), priest (cleric, druid), and rogue (thief, bard). Assassins and monks were removed from the game as character classes, "magic-users" are renamed "mages", illusionists are made into a subtype of the wizard class, along with new classes specializing in the other schools of magic. Proficiencies are officially supported in the Player's Handbook and many supplements, rather than being an optional add-on.

In an effort to make some good from the situation, local residents organized a "clean the lake bottom" campaign in which interested volunteers walked the empty lakebed before the lake's refilling in order to remove refuse that has collected there. On June 14, 2008, about 250 volunteers, including many who did not live in the area, filled four dumpsters with refuse. Illusionists Rick and Suzan Wilcox staged a show on June 22, 2008, to benefit families who lost their homes in the Lake Delton flood.

In 2016 she lent her singing voice to the soundtrack of the Russian version of the children's animated series Princess Sissi which had been shown on the Russian TV channel Gulli since December 2015. Before that, in 2015, Alisa together with Semyon Treskunov recorded the main theme song for the Russian animation feature film . (The song plays during the ending credits.) She also played the title role of Alice (in Russian, the name is "Alisa") in the illusionists New Year's show Alice in Wonderland. During the New Year holidays it was attended by over 12,000 people.

Tsai has been producing magic videos and products under the company name SansMinds since 2010, and has created multiple tricks, props, and devices for magicians and performers. Although he began his career developing tricks like Holely and Trace, Tsai eventually moved on to engineering stage props and devices such as VAPR, Absolute Zero, and VAPR Watch. Tsai also operates under the nickname The Visualist, as he believes he cannot be fully categorized alongside other magicians or illusionists due to his personal magic style. In May 2017, Tsai successfully auditioned for America's Got Talent Season 12 with an act he had developed himself.

As illusionists, they were capable of creating appearances which were real to those who believed in them or who failed to dispel them. Some of the rakshasas were said to be man-eaters, and made their gleeful appearance when the slaughter on a battlefield was at its worst. Occasionally they served as rank-and-file soldiers in the service of one or another warlord. Aside from its treatment of unnamed rank-and-file Rakshasas, the epics tell the stories of certain members of the "race" who rose to prominence, some of them as heroes, most of them as villains.

Parry wrote The Bright Future, a drama produced at the opening of the Grand Theatre, Islington, on 4 August 1883. Parry died, after much suffering from a paralytic attack, at Cricklewood Lodge, Middlesex, in 1887, aged fifty-five, and was buried in Old Willesden churchyard. After his death his theatres were managed by the Sefton Parry Trust; the Trust continued into the 20th century.The Era, 21 July 1888, Mr Sefton Parry's Will William Morton, noted for his management of the illusionists Maskelyne and Cooke, had, at Parry's request, taken on the management of the then ailing Greenwich Theatre in 1885.

The book provoked an immediate response, both positive and negative, and was published with endorsements from scientists, such as Nobel laureate and co-discoverer of the structure of DNA James D. Watson, Harvard psychologist Steven Pinker, as well as popular writers of fiction and the illusionists Penn and Teller. Metacritic reported that the book had an average score of 59 out of 100. The book was nominated for Best Book at the British Book Awards, where Richard Dawkins was named Author of the Year. Nevertheless, the book received mixed reviews from critics, including both religious and atheist commentators.

As a child, he'd seen a magic show on New Year's Eve that inspired him, and by the age of ten, he was making his own magic props; by 15 he was using a barn as a workshop to create large-scale illusions. He studied the definitive volumes of Tarbell Course in Magic, and sought out professional illusionists David Wilson and Shawn Farquhar, who became mentors and friends.

Jason Bishop (born Jasane Castro; January 23, 1978) is an American illusionist and magician, and performs one of the largest touring magic and illusion shows in the United States. Bishop has won a number of awards in magic, including the Jack Gwynne award for Excellence in Presentation and was the 2006 Association for the Promotion of Campus Activities (APCA) Best Performing Artist of the Year. Bishop performs an average of 150 shows a year, including luxury cruise ships, performing arts centers, theaters, and corporate events. He has done performances throughout the United States and Europe and has been called "one of the greatest modern illusionists of our time".

Other illusionists, including John Nevil Maskelyne, worked out how the Davenports did their act and re-created the tricks to debunk the brothers' claims of psychic power. However, the re-creations did not involve overt escape, merely a replication of tricks with the statement that they were accomplished by secret magicians' skills rather than spirits. It took another thirty years before the pure skill of escape began to be displayed as an act in itself. The figure most responsible for making escapology a recognized entertainment was Harry Houdini, who built his career on demonstrating the ability to escape from a huge variety of restraints and difficult situations.

Dawes, 'The Great Illusionists', p. 193. Houdini made no secret of the fact that he was an expert on restraints and the skills needed to overcome them but he often concealed the exact details of his escapes to maintain an air of mystery and suspense. Although many of his escapes relied on technical skills such as lock-picking and contortion, he also performed tricks such as Metamorphosis and the Chinese Water Torture Cell, which are essentially classic stage illusions reliant on cleverly designed props. Houdini's feats helped to define the basic repertoire of escapology, including escapes from handcuffs, padlocks, straitjackets, mail bags, beer barrels, and prison cells.

The Queen is a 1968 documentary film directed by Frank Simon and narrated by Flawless Sabrina. It depicts the experiences of the female illusionists organizing and participating in the 1967 Miss All-America Camp Beauty Contest held at New York City's Town Hall. The film was screened at the International Critics' Week section of the 1968 Cannes Film Festival; however, the festival was ultimately curtailed and ended due to ongoing civil unrest in France before any awards could be given out. First released in the United States in June 1968, it was screened in France (November 1968), Netherlands (1969), Denmark (1969), and Finland (1969).

The Kentucky State Fair includes competitions in crafts such as quilt-making, homebrew beers, and home-made pastries, as well as fine arts and agricultural competitions. Exhibitor spaces are available and are popular with area and regional businesses. The Kentucky State Fair boasts of indoor space that often feature exhibits that include health screenings, gravity-defying acrobats, magical illusionists, balloon sculptors and home improvement demonstrations. The Kentucky State Fair World's Championship Horse Show is one of the fair's most prestigious events, where attendees and horses travel from various continents. More than 2,000 elite saddlebreds compete in the World's Championship Horse Show for more than 1.2 million in premiums and awards.

In the cases of various forms of traditional healer, as well as the later stage magicians or illusionists, the label of magician could become a job description. Others claim such an identity out of a genuinely held belief that they have specific unusual powers or talents. Different societies have different social regulations regarding who can take on such a role; for instance, it may be a question of familial heredity, or there may be gender restrictions on who is allowed to engage in such practices. A variety of personal traits may be credited with giving magical power, and frequently they are associated with an unusual birth into the world.

Gérard Majax in 2005 Gérard Faier, known as Gérard Majax (April 28, 1943) is one of the most famous French illusionists. He has appeared in many television programs, magic demonstrations, and movies. From 1987 until 2002 he, along with Jacques Théodor and Henri Broch of the Laboratoire de Zététique at the University of Nice Sophia-Antipolis, oversaw the International Zetetic Challenge. During the 1990s, on a late night television show by Thierry Ardisson Majax gave a demo of the "rotating table" supernatural phenomenon: a group of "randomly" selected people from the audience stood around a round table, put their hands on it, and the table went up and started rotating.

Light Balance performed on Broadway as part of famous show "The Illusionists" and worked on the stage with such famous artists as Jessie J and The Jacksons as part of Art On Ice show all across Switzerland. The group made appearances as a special guest for Warner Bros., MGM Grand, Buick, Volkswagen, Nike, Siemens, McDonald's, Coca-Cola, ZAIN, NSP, Staples, Accor Hotels Group and many other corporate clients throughout the world. In April 2019, they teamed up with Netherrealm Studios for a special performance to celebrate the release of Mortal Kombat 11, the characters featured were Raiden, Scorpion, Sub-Zero, Baraka, Shao Kahn and Skarlet.

Irene Larsen, known affectionately as “Princess Irene” throughout the worldwide community of magicians and illusionists, was a co-founder of the Magic Castle and the Academy of Magical Arts. She was born Irene Stolz in Germany in 1936. In 1955, American magician John Daniel invited her to come up on stage to assist in a performance. She soon became a permanent part of the act. John Daniel nicknamed her “Princess Irene,” an honorary title she would keep for life, and two years later, they were married. She divorced John Daniel in 1960 and began working as a magician’s assistant to the brothers Milt Larsen and Bill Larsen.

In 1911, Crowley and Waddell holidayed in Montigny- sur-Loing, where he wrote prolifically, producing poems, short stories, plays, and 19 works on magic and mysticism, including the two final Holy Books of Thelema. In Paris, he met Mary Desti, who became his next "Scarlet Woman", with the two undertaking magical workings in St. Moritz; Crowley believed that one of the Secret Chiefs, Ab-ul-Diz, was speaking through her. Based on Desti's statements when in trance, Crowley wrote the two-volume Book 4 (1912–13) and at the time developed the spelling "magick" in reference to the paranormal phenomenon as a means of distinguishing it from the stage magic of illusionists.

Gygax noted that due to "premature actions", TSR got "the cart in advance of the horse" by mentioning a spell (advanced illusion) and a magic item (the philosopher's stone) which had not yet appeared in a game manual, promising they would eventually appear in game material in 1983. Gygax later commented on an individual who had criticized the Deities & Demigods Cyclopedia, noting that this was the same individual responsible for errors on the Fiend Folio's random encounter tables, among other errors.Gygax, Gary 1982. Thieves and bards are also included. Priests comprise three distinct categories: clerics, who derive their powers directly from the elemental planes; templars, who serve the sorcerer-kings and are dependent on them for magical energy; and druids, who are bound to the essence of a particular oasis or other geographic location. Dark Sun world wizards include defilers, whose powers come at the expense of the ecosystem; preservers, who wield magic in concert with the environment; and illusionists, specialists in illusory effects who may be either defilers or preservers. The Dark Sun rules encourage players to follow the alignment guidelines used in other AD&D; campaigns, though allowances are made for extreme circumstances.

At 15 years old, Borchardt left Brookings for Branson, Missouri, where he performed 18 shows per week for 6 weeks. He has performed more than 100 shows in the town, and was voted Branson's Magician of the Year in 2016. In 2013, Borchardt announced 45 shows at the Mundo Imperial Forum in Acapulco, Mexico, and has been described as "the nation's top touring illusionist" and "one of the fastest rising young stars in the country" by the Brookings Register. From April 2014 until August 2015, Borchardt was a member of The Revollusionists, a spinoff show from The Illusionists, and in 2015, the Starlite Theater in Branson announced that Rez's show, Edge of Illusion, would be open from March until September 2016.

In 2014 was held 4th International Mime Festival and in the program were included illusionists, living statues and sand painting. During the Festivals of 2008, 2010, 2012, 2014, 2016, 2017, 2019 participated theatre groups and solo artists from Spain, Italy, Germany, Greece, Russia, Latvia, USA, France, Czech Republic, Poland, Denmark, Japan, Kazakhstan, Bangladesh, Ukraine, Iran, Thailand, South Africa, Argentina, as well as Armenian theatre and circus groups, bands, fire shows, youth groups. The performances are played on open air stage in the central square or just in the street and are free for the audience. The initiators are always filled with the enthusiasm of organizing an art holiday for tourists, for Tshaghkadzor population and for the active youth - enjoying their summer time.

Safire are an illusion act based in North Wales, in the UK. The act consists of Stuart Loughland and Libby Edwards. Highlights of their career include receiving an invitation from world-famous illusionists Siegfried and Roy to appear in their World Magic Show at the Tropicana Hotel in Las Vegas, and also performing at the 20th Century Fox Plaza Hotel in Los Angeles. They also have performed in a Royal Variety Performance at The Prince of Wales Theatre in London's West End, entertained the Bavarian Royal Family, and appeared at many theatres and cruise ships. Safire have appeared with BBC's Chuckle Brothers on 14 different UK theatre tours and also performed a giant puppet UV act, "The Magic Light Puppet Company", as well as playing parts and presenting their illusions.

The first venue was the Greek Isle Resort and Casino, which lead to a headline contract at the Boulevard Theater, which eventually turned into a five-year contract at his own Tommy Wind Theater in the heart of the Las Vegas Strip. Most recently, Tommy was one of the stars of the Masters of Illusion LIVE show inside the iconic Jubilee Theater at Bally's Hotel and Casino. During this time, Tommy starred as one of the illusionists on the hit TV series Masters of Illusion on the CW network, which is viewed by two million people per episode. Tommy has been featured on over 25 episodes of Masters of Illusion over the past six seasons, leading to countless other TV shows like The Hollywood Christmas Parade, Access Hollywood, and many more.

The Pygmalion myth had long been popular with theatrical illusionists. Pygmalion and Galatea was the first film adaptation of the story; many others followed it in the silent era and beyond. Méliès and Jehanne d'Alcy play the roles of Pygmalion and Galatea in the film. Ideas from the myth returned in later films by Méliès, including The Brahmin and the Butterfly (1901), in which the woman's power and freedom of choice are emphasized, and which Jennifer Forrest summarized as "a Pygmalion and Galatea scenario gone wrong"; The Drawing Lesson, or the Living Statue (1903), in which a mischievous magician creates an equally mischievous Galatea to bewilder a drawing instructor; and Ten Ladies in One Umbrella (1903), in which a Pygmalion-like Méliès conjures up women in front of a sign labeled "Galathea Theater".

Some modern illusionists believe that it is unethical to give a performance that claims to be anything other than a clever and skillful deception. Most of these performers therefore eschew the term "magician" (which they view as making a claim to supernatural power) in favor of "illusionist" and similar descriptions; for example, the performer Jamy Ian Swiss makes these points by billing himself as an "honest liar". Alternatively, many performers say that magical acts, as a form of theatre, need no more of a disclaimer than any play or film; this policy is advocated by the magician and mentalist Joseph Dunninger, who states "For those who believe, no explanation is necessary; for those who do not believe, no explanation will suffice." These apparently irreconcilable differences of opinion have led to some conflicts among performers.

From his success on America's Got Talent, Lim began headlining a long–term Las Vegas residency in the Terry Fator Theatre at the Mirage Casino Hotel in October 2019. Lim also began participating on tour with The Illusionists, a theatrical magician troupe show, as well as his own United States tour in 2020. Lim made numerous guest appearances on talk shows since his wins on America's Got Talent, including The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, The Ellen DeGeneres Show, and The Today Show. In 2020, Lim made special guest appearances on the second season of America's Got Talent: The Champions, first in a cameo as part of a magic trick performed by Britain's Got Talent contestant Marc Spelmann, aka "Magician X", and second as part of a trick by AGT semi-finalist Colin Cloud.

Cai dislikes being typecast as the typical female in magic who plays submissive roles to males and only performs magic with silks, flowers, umbrellas or rabbits and has incorporated fire-eating, choreography with samurai swords, twirling fire balls, spikes and weapons in her shows. Her influences in magic when she was growing up include David Copperfield and Princess Tenko. Over the years, she has grown from performing simple magic tricks to more elaborate and death defying ones. Cai collaborated with her former manager, J C Sum, in various illusion shows across Asia. Channel News Asia has highlighted that they represent "the new faces of an age-old art form", and called them "Singapore’s celebrity magic duo". They have been hailed as "Asia’s most famous illusionists" by Straits Times and have been lauded as "the hottest duo in town" by AsiaOne.

The book presents the city's assortment of guilds and brotherhoods, such as Beggar's Court, the Elven Liberation Front, the Free Fundamentalist Farmers, the Monster Handler's Syndicate, and the Thousand Fists of Khan, each with conflicting interests and political machinations. The Gazetteer offers an elaborate view of the magic- user's career, focusing on enrollment in the Glantrian School of Magic, which permits a magic-user character to learn new skills, like quick spell-casting and the ability to combine spells. The Gazetteer also provides player character (PC) spell-casting specialties: The Seven Secret Orders of the Great School of Magic are the Alchemists, Dracologists, Elementalists, Illusionists, Necromancers, Cryptomancers (runemasters), and Witches. Also provided are twenty suggested scenario ideas tied to distinctive features of the Glantrian campaign, including a four-page "graduation test"—a complete dungeon adventure designed to test magic-users hoping to graduate from the Great School of Magic.

Various philosophers and scientists have proposed possible theories. For example, in his book Consciousness and the Social Brain neuroscientist Michael Graziano advocates what he calls attention schema theory, in which our perception of being conscious is merely an error in perception, held by brains which evolved to hold erroneous and incomplete models of their own internal workings, just as they hold erroneous and incomplete models of their own bodies and of the external world. Illusionists generally hold that once it is explained why people believe and say they are conscious, the hard problem of consciousness will have been dissolved. Chalmers agrees that a mechanism for these beliefs and reports can and should be identified using the standard methods of physical science, but disagrees that this would support illusionism, stating that the datum illusionism fails to account for is not reports of consciousness but rather first-person consciousness itself.

One of the most celebrated of the abstract illusionists in the 1970s and 1980s, Lembeck received a BFA from Kansas University and an MFA from Yale in 1970, where he remained as an instructor in Yale's art department until 1972. Lembeck then established a career in SoHo, Manhattan as a professional artist, exhibiting his paintings with the Louis K. Meisel Gallery and nationally and internationally. His works are included in the permanent collections of the Guggenheim Museum, The Phoenix Art Museum, the Detroit Institute of Arts, and the Orlando Museum of Art, among others. In 1994, Lembeck in collaboration with Jeremy Gardiner and Susan Banks,Faculty - New World School of Arts established LANDMIND to create a method for artists to become an influential and integral part of Miami's ever evolving environment by providing a forum of collaboration between artists, students and community members to share ideas, design and execute environmental art projects.

Dawes wrote that Clempert rarely performed after losing his court case with Houdini, and only resumed his career in 1927, after Houdini's death in 1926. However, in 2018, British author Derek Tait reported in his book The Great Illusionists that he had found evidence in British daily newspapers of regular performances Clempert and his wife Nellie offered throughout Great Britain between 1907 and 1914. Tait mentioned an act called “Escape from a Submarine,” a variation of Houdini's Milk Can Escape different enough to avoid copyright problems, and media coverage of Clempert's arrest in London on April 13, 1909, when the police prevented him from jumping handcuffed from the Tower Bridge. There is also evidence in Houdini's papers that he continued to keep a watch on Clempert, and complained in 1910 that the Siberian's escape acts were still too similar to his own, and in 1912 that, after Houdini had appeared on stage seated in the pilot's seat of a real airplane, Clempert promptly did the same.

Joe Grossman worked his whole life in the entertainment industry, first appearing on stage aged 4 in his father's theatre in Brentford, Middlesex. Joe and his identical twin brother, William, performed as a double-act and toured (as 'The Filberts') with magicians and illusionists Nevil Maskelyne and David Devant until the outbreak of war in 1914. (William is said to have died as an indirect result of copying Harry Houdini's famous illusion featuring an escape from a tank of water.) After serving with distinction in the Royal Army Medical Corps during The Great War, Joe Grossman entered the film industry in 1920, when Oswald Stoll gave him the post of Studio Manager at the Stoll Studios at Surbiton and, a year later, at the new Studios at Cricklewood. (Joe married Oswald Stoll's secretary, Esther Josephs, in 1922.) In 1927, John Maxwell, manager of British International Pictures (later Associated British Picture Corporation), offered him the Studio Manager job at Elstree, where he remained until his death.

The book included information on how to play the standard character classes: warriors (including fighters, paladins, and rangers), wizards (including mages and specialist wizards such as illusionists), priests (clerics and guidelines for variance by mythos, including the druid as an example), and rogues (including thieves and bards); while most character classes remained about the same as in the 1st edition rules, the bard was regularized, and the assassin and monk were dropped.

In the history of Christianity, docetism (from the dokeĩn "to seem", dókēsis "apparition, phantom": "A term derived from the Greek dokein, to seem, or to appear.".) is the heterodox doctrine that the phenomenon of Jesus, his historical and bodily existence, and above all the human form of Jesus, was mere semblance without any true reality... Broadly it is taken as the belief that Jesus only seemed to be human, and that his human form was an illusion. The word Dokētaí ("Illusionists") referring to early groups who denied Jesus's humanity, first occurred in a letter by Bishop Serapion of Antioch (197–203), who discovered the doctrine in the Gospel of Peter, during a pastoral visit to a Christian community using it in Rhosus, and later condemned it as a forgery.. Serapion first approved its use, and only reversed his opinion on returning to his bishopric in Antioch, after being informed of its contents. He wrote a "Concerning the So-Called Gospel of St Peter", which is alluded to in Eusebius's Church History VI 12.3–6.
