As someone who has lived a life of wealth and privilege, Thomas has not been shown to have any deep skills of his own, getting by on his vampiric aptitude and charm much of the time. He is a slob and eats horribly, his demon maintaining his physique, but he is extremely conscious of social interactions, appearances, and is a natural fashion plate (as in, anything he owns instantly becomes fashionable). Thomas is also, however, a member of the Venatori, a very, very secret organization which exists among the supernatural powers-that-be, which hunts down and keeps secret and forgotten various entities, and is thus highly knowledgeable about all sorts of supernatural threats and organizations that very, very few beings alive have any clue about. What training he has is geared towards stopping these threats, more than anything - he has been drafted by his elder sister Lara, the true head of the family, into these duties.

As in the cases of the above stories of Samson and Cai, this romance may be an echo of an otherwise unrecorded extermination of local Celtic pagan cults by Christians during the 5th and 6th centuries, as it is considered by Flint F. Johnson; Dhira B. Mahoney speculated the witches may "represent the supporters of an older order trying to regain control of the system." Elsewhere in the Mabinogion, the tale of Culhwch and Olwen likewise features the motif of Arthur's attack on Caer Loyw, but in this case the defenders of the castle are male. Arthur also hunts down Orddu (the Black Witch) and kills her by slicing her in half after she repeatedly beats his men who first struggle to defeat her, reminiscent of how Peredur dispatched of the witch queen of Caer Lloyw. Furthermore, parts of the story parallel how the Irish mythological hero Cú Chulainn is taught combat by the warrior woman Scáthach after he overcomes and threatens her; Cú Chulainn also defeats Scáthach's rival Aífe, sparing her life but raping her, and many years later comes to fight and kill their son of this union.
Dolores cries over losing everyone she cares about, but when Bernard tells her to limit her 'emotional affect,' she not only becomes a machine again, we have to wonder how genuine her emotions are in the first place. Wood makes us question how real Dolores is." Zack Handlen of The A.V. Club wrote in his review, "'Dissonance Theory' doubles down on the confusion in many respects, offering some tantalizing hints about Ford's plans without actually explaining them, showing Dolores slipping a little further down the rabbit hole, and catching up with the Man in Black as he hunts down his mysterious maze. The maze also turns up in Dolores's memory, and in the drawing of a little girl on the street, so even if we don't have any immediate answers on it, at least there’s a sense of things getting tied together." He gave the episode a B+. Liz Shannon Miller of IndieWire wrote in her review, "Westworld is in large part a show about people in search of answers, and 'Dissonance Theory' found the show’s characters taking a multitude of intriguing approaches to finding them.
In Foxy Brown, a 1974 movie heavy in sexuality and violence, its protagonist, a supersexy vigilante, hunts down a murderous drug ring by posing as a prostitute. In the 1994 music video for his Doggystyle song "Doggy Dogg World", she reappears, along with her blaxploitation, male contemporary from Dolemite—the pimp and nightclub owner of a protagonist, vintage 1975, that Snoop likens himself to on The Chronic's main hit single—in a cinematic skit featuring the original lead actors, Pam Grier and Rudy Ray Moore. (On the biggest Chronic single, "Nuthin' but a 'G' Thang", Snoop raps, "Showing much flex when it's time to wreck a mic / Pimping hos and clocking a grip like my name was Dolemite".) For details on the skit, see Cheryl L. Keyes, Rap Music and Street Consciousness (Urbana & Chicago: University of Illinois Press, 2002), p 217. For brief discussion of the song, see Eithne Quinn, Nuthin' But a "G" Thang: The Culture and Commerce of Gangsta Rap (New York: Columbia University Press, 2005), p 146.) In 2002, certain singers, including Usher and Alicia Keyes, rather, were praised for revitalizing R&B;'s soul tradition, after a decade of the rap genre, with its "Bitches Ain't Shit" model, invading R&B.
