Ragna Gulbranssen mentions a menu that her father had made where he comments humoristically on the nosebleeds. She writes: “Therefore the bothersome nosebleeds were already taking place in March.” On 10 October 1962 Trygve Gulbranssen died in Eidsberg at 68 years of age.

The series was parodied on the Norwegian comedy show Åpen Post. It was humoristically claimed that NRK had bought the rights to produce dubbed remakes of the series' original episodes after the show stopped airing in Germany.

Georges Bizet (1838–1875) included a habanera in his opera Carmen (1875), derived from Yradier's "El Arreglito". The contradanza was popular in Spain and spread throughout Spanish America during the 18th century. Already in 1900, a play named after her was performed in the Ernst-Drucker-Theater, and other works were to follow. In the 1920s Paul Möhring wrote a play with music entitled Zitronenjette; the role of Müller was originally written for the actor Ernst Budzinski. In the play, which humoristically depicts Müller and her contemporaries, the lemon seller was frequently played by a man. For example, the roll of Zitronenjette was Henry Vahl's last major performance at the St. Pauli Theater and one of his last major roles.

In 1978, Neerlands Hoop became famous for their opposition against the participation of the Netherlands national football team in the football world cup in Argentina, though their show Bloed aan de Paal. In 1979, Neerlands Hoop split up and De Jonge started a solo career of comedy performances. Starting in 1983, he also regularly performed on Dutch national television on New Year's Eve, humoristically looking back on the past year (the so-called "Oudejaarsconference").

Minor Romance languages such as Ladin, Provençal (Occitan) and Catalan along with creoles had a large importance in the development of Occidental for de Wahl, who wrote as far back as 1912 that his language under development was more similar to Provençal than Italian or Spanish. The Swiss magazine Landbote made a similar comment in 1945 in a review of the language, commenting humoristically that "reading through the few examples of Occidental gives us the impression of a half-learned Catalan by a foreigner who doesn't much understand the grammar.
