The Hank Williams song "borrowed heavily" from the 1942 song with the same title written by Cole Porter. The lyrics for the Williams version begin as a come on using double entendres related to food preparation ("How's about cookin' somethin' up with me?"). By the third and fourth verses, the singer is promising the object of his affection that they can become an exclusive couple ("How's about keepin' steady company?" and "I'm gonna throw my date book over the fence"). Williams was friendly with musician Jimmy Dickens.

An authorised biography, How's About That Then?, by Alison Bellamy, was published in June 2012. After the claims made against him were published, the author said that, in the light of the allegations, she felt "let down and betrayed" by Savile.

To celebrate the 20th anniversary of Neighbours, the BBC asked readers to nominate their twenty favourite obscure characters. Wayne came in third place and the readers said "How's about Wayne Duncan? He lived at the Robinson house, went out with Gabby Willis for a while and could open "stubbies" using only the fold between his upper arm and forearm. What a guy".

In one episode, Libby mentions that her ancestor was the fictional Queen Hasabataslapya ("how's about I slap ya?") of Egypt, who died at a young age. During the episode, Libby was forced to masquerade as the queen in order to distract a group of revived mummies (as the ancient portrait of the queen strongly resembles Libby). For the rest of the series, Libby kept her new hairstyle, and her wardrobe also changed.

Determined not to let Claude get the better of him again, the boy mouse writes a fake letter of his own and sends it to him. The letter this time reads, "Dear Cat (Pal) I've decided to give up my evil ways and be nice to you. Yours in Friendship, The Dog - P.S. How's about coming over for a game of Canasta?" Claude falls for it and gets a huge beating from Hector (here named Butcher) when he tries to go over to his kennel for a card game.

During his lifetime and at the time of his death, Savile was regarded as "an eccentric adornment to British public life ... an ubiquitous and distinctive face on television", who "relished being in the public eye" and was "a shrewd promoter of his own image". He created a "bizarre yodel", and catchphrases which included "How's about that, then?", "Now then, now then", "Goodness gracious", "As it 'appens" and "Guys and gals". Savile was frequently spoofed for his dress sense, which usually featured a tracksuit or shell suit and gold jewellery.

He was musical director for Universal Pictures for three years, Paramount Pictures for four years, and was with ABC, NBC, and CBS for eleven years. He appeared in several Universal B-musicals of the early 1940s, including Private Buckaroo (1942; in which he clowned onstage with The Andrews Sisters during their performance of "Don't Sit Under the Apple Tree"), Strictly in the Groove (1942), How's About It? (1943), Moonlight and Cactus (1944) and San Antonio Rose (1941), in the latter of which he was paired with Lon Chaney, Jr. as a faux Abbott and Costello. Most of these projects took advantage of his improvisational skills. When Broadway comedian Frank Fay walked out on a series of feature films teaming him with Billy Gilbert, Gilbert called on his closest friend, Shemp Howard, to replace him in three B-comedy features for Monogram Pictures, filmed in 1944–45.

One of her earliest roles was a quick appearance as the original bearer of the Ruby Slippers in a little known re-telling of the Wizard of Oz in 1995. She had auditioned for the role of Dorothy, but lost to Denise van Outen. In 2005, Salmon presented the results of the Northern Ireland region in Making Your Mind Up, the UK's national pre-selection for the Eurovision Song Contest 2005. She welcomed the television audience to Belfast with the line "How's about you, Terry?" Salmon appeared in the 2007 version of Comic Relief Does Fame Academy, with several celebrity opponents, including BBC Sport presenter and journalist Ray Stubbs, former CBBC presenter Angellica Bell and BBC Radio 1 and BBC Radio 5 Live presenter Colin Murray.

Shaw appeared in the films Prairie Thunder, Alcatraz Island, Sergeant Murphy, Jezebel, Accidents Will Happen, The Adventures of Robin Hood, Gold Diggers in Paris, The Sisters, Torchy Blane in Chinatown, The Rookie Cop, The Old Maid, Waterloo Bridge, Flight Angels, Hired Wife, Escape, Lucky Devils, Blossoms in the Dust, Gambling Daughters, Johnny Eager, Night Monster, Shadow of a Doubt, How's About It, Hi'ya, Chum, Hangmen Also Die!, False Faces, Arizona Trail, Ladies Courageous, Johnny Doesn't Live Here Any More, The Scarlet Clue, I'll Tell the World, Jungle Raiders, Sensation Hunters, The Scarlet Horseman, Nocturne, Time Out of Mind and They Won't Believe Me, among others. On April 19, 1944, in Beverly Hills, Shaw married Willard Ilefeldt, a former actor who was serving in the Army Air Forces.
