In 1256, Benedict, the Canon of Zagreb represented Stephen in the mintage and chamber at Pakrac. Styria from Pettau Castle between 1254 and 1259 Stephen built several castles (including Jablanac) along the borders as part of Béla's radical reforms introduced after the Mongol invasion. Before his confirmation as provost of Székesfehérvár, John was elected as Archbishop of Kalocsa sometime around October 1278. He succeeded Stephen Báncsa in that dignity, who died in the summer of that year. John was also styled as chancellor of the royal court between November 1278 and March 1279. John was first referred to as archbishop-elect on 14 November, when transcribed and confirmed the privileges of the hospes (foreigner) gold miners of Rimaszombat (today Rimavská Sobota, Slovakia), who belonged under the suzerainty of the Archdiocese of Kalocsa despite the great distance.

The Diocese of Várad laid in the territory of Stephen's realm during his election. Lodomer was granted the land of Henye for his advice and mediation role by Béla IV still in that year. When Stephen V ascended the Hungarian throne in May 1270, he granted tax exemption for those serfs and hospes who were subjects of the Diocese of Várad, in addition to free use of mines for the bishopric. The king also permitted that the lands of the extinct local noble families have been transferred to the diocese.

Much of what is presently known about Dicrocoelium dendriticum is the result of the work of the naturalist Wendell Krull. While D. dendriticum was discovered by Rudolphi in 1819 and D. hospes was discovered by Loos in 1899, the full life cycle was not known until Krull and C.R. Mapes published a series of papers from 1951-1953 detailing their observations and experiments. It was known that D. dendriticum affected sheep, but everything else was a mystery. The visit prompted Caspar Barlaeus to write his Medicea hospes ("The Medicean Guest", 1638). Marie subsequently traveled to Cologne, where she took refuge in a house loaned by her friend Pierre-Paul Rubens in Cologne. She fell ill in June 1642, and died of a bout of pleurisy in destitution on 3 July 1642, a few months before Richelieu. For instance, Albert, provost of Arad was forced to acknowledge the supremacy of Esztergom over his chapter in 1246. Pope Innocent ordered the monks of the Mount of Saint Martin (Pannonhalma) to promise obedience to the Archdiocese of Esztergom as their exarchate in 1247. When Béla confirmed the privileges of the hospes in Beregszász (today Berehove, Ukraine) in December 1247, the king assigned the jurisdiction of Esztergom to the Saxon community. The Premonstratensian provostry of Hatvan was also a subject of the archdiocese's spiritual jurisdiction. The acquired area was settled with colonists by Báncsa since the early 1240s.

Many nobles throughout the empire opposed the rebellion, one example being Herodes Atticus, who is recorded as having sent Cassius a letter containing only the word emanes, literally "you are mad". Despite this widespread opposition, the capital of Rome was thrown into a panic, which forced Aurelius to send Gaius Vettius Sabinianus Julius Hospes, the governor of Pannonia Inferior, with troops to secure the city. Aurelius was forced to withdraw from his campaign against the Iazyges, and end the Marcomannic War.

In 1543, following the Dissolution, with part of it having already been demolished, Bell had purchased the site and an adjoining cottage from the Crown.Letters & Papers Henry VIII, xviii (2), p.107. In 1559, by then an old man, perhaps as a final charitable gesture to ease his path to Heaven, Bell built a "Hospital" or almshouse to the east of the cottage, comprising a low terrace of five individual rooms each with its own front door. The original cottage itself formed a 6th almshouse, the body of the chapel being used by the almsmen for prayers.

Emeric is first mentioned as Bishop of Várad in July 1297, when he confirmed his predecessor Bartholomew's verdict regarding the chapter's right of collection of duties over the aforementioned three villages upon the request of the ecclesiastical body. The cathedral chapter was also granted the one third of the income of the salt mines at Belényes (present-day Beiuș, Romania) by Emeric (the estate and its mines were acquired by one his predecessors Lodomer two decades ago). The bishop provided several tax benefit to the burghers and hospes of Várad by reduction of agricultural benefits in 1312. Emeric built and consecrated the St. Andrew Church, a Gothic hall church in Debrecen (present-day the Reformed Great Church stands in that place).

At the request of the archbishop, the monarch widened the granted privileges on several occasions; for example, the Saxon hospes of Lipcse (today Partizánska Ľupča, Slovakia), who were subjects of the archbishopric, were granted tax exemption, in addition to the parishes in Korpona and Selmecbánya (present-day Krupina and Banská Štiavnica, respectively), which had to pay the tithe to the Esztergom chapter, instead of the royal treasury. In 1263, Béla also donated the right of patronage to Philip and his successors over the St. Pantleon monastery, which laid in an island on the Danube (today ruins in Dunaújváros). The archdiocese was also granted the annual tithe from the chamber's profit (lucrum camerae) beyond the Dráva river in March 1272. The parish of Szentistván (named after martyr Saint Stephen) and St. Anne chapel in Örmény (former boroughs of Esztergom) were established during Philip's episcopate.
