In 1834 a band of trappers and traders led by Antonio Montero from Portugal built a trading post East of Kaycee. It became known as the “Portuguese Fort.” A unique site, what little remains from the area have been donated to the Hoofprints of the Past Museum and includes everything from a sword, beads, and clay pipes.

In 1960, 20th Century Fox filmed the movie Misty on location at Chincoteague. When the movie opened in 1961, the star of the film, a Chincoteague Pony named Misty of Chincoteague marched down the aisles of the theater before the showing. A party of American fur trappers set out to retrieve stolen horses. They followed hoofprints into Cañada de los Indios, came upon a Tongva village, massacred the native residents, and took the remaining horses. Though some managed to escape, many Indians were killed in the massacre. The village's site is designated as California Historical Landmark #217.

It is a white, flaming, spiritual horse that has wings like that of a pegasus and can fly swiftly from one cosmic plane to another in a second. Haizum was God's gift to Gabriel for pleasing Him. A legend based on sura Ta-Ha, 96 relates that dust from Haizum's hoofprints was thrown the golden calf’s mouth.

The new emperor invited Rolpi Dorje, who declined the invitation but sent another lama in his stead. Rolpi Dorje composed mystic songs throughout his life and was an accomplished poet, fond of Indian poetics. He is also remembered for creating a huge painting (thangka) following a vision of one of his students, who had imagined a Buddha image over a 100 metres tall. The Karmapa, on horseback, traced the Buddha's outline with hoofprints.

The local king wanted to have Rostam as his ally. When Rostam finds out that his horse, named Rakhsh, had been stolen, he became furious and went in search of the horse and the search led him to the Samangan town. When he reached the outskirts of the town, the King of Samangan and his entourage came to greet him. During the Indian Wars of the late1800s, two military posts were built a few miles apart near the strategic Bozeman Trail crossing of the Powder River—Fort Reno in the 1860s and Cantonment Reno in the 1870s. Informative historical markers mark the spots today, and the windswept landscape around them has changed little in the last 160 years. A large number of items donated from the Fort Reno site itself are on display at the Hoofprints of the Past Museum, as well as a diorama of the fort created by Robert Wilson, an expert in local military forts.

Coleman published the autobiography, Hoofprints on My Heart (1971), which summarized his passion for horse racing, and "told the story of a little boy who always wanted to own a race horse". Coleman wrote that while going to report on the 1974 Kentucky Derby, he had a mission to protect fellow journalist Milt Dunnell of the Toronto Star from pickpocketing. Robbie, son of Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, arrives at Coldchester, town of the North Pole to follow in his father's hoofprints of being a navigator for Santa Claus' sleigh team. Unlike Rudolph's glowing nose, Robbie's possesses a GPS that can find anything. Upon arriving at the team's home Reindeer Lodge, he meets several members of the team; Donner; a young female reindeer who's secretly attracted to him, Prancer; a hip, friendly and overweight reindeer, Vixen; an attractive but apathetic reindeer whom Robbie falls for, and Blitzen; the captain of the sleigh team and Vixen's boyfriend.
