Over the years, homemaking in the United States has been a foundational piece of the education system, particularly for women. These homemaking courses, called home economics, have had a prevalent presence in secondary and higher education since the 19th century. By definition, home economics is “the art and science of home management”, meaning that the discipline incorporates both creative and technical aspects into its teachings. Home economics courses often consist of learning how to cook, how to do taxes, and how to perform child care tasks.

Jobson left the school in mid-1933 with a negotiated redundancy settlement following a disagreement with the school council over proposed downsizing measures prompted by the economic downturn. In 1934, Jobson founded Hopewood House, a finishing school for girls which taught homecraft and secretarial studies. It was under her leadership that the first (of four) additions to the original Home Economics Building (now Human Sciences Building) was completed in 1952. The two former courses/programs were later on phased out while the Tourist Guide Certificate was changed into Associate in Tourism (2 years). In the 1980s, the College of Education phased out all vocational courses/programs and the Institute of Nutrition was abolished. Later on, the College offered the following four-year degree programs: Bachelor of Science in Tourism, Bachelor of Science in Nutrition and Dietetics, and Bachelor of Science in Hotel & Restaurant Management. The new discipline of household organization was officially baptized in 1923 at the first Salon des arts ménagers (SAM; Household Arts Show). That year Bernège founded the Institut d'organisation ménagère (Institute of Housekeeping Organization) in Nancy. The institute was at first funded by a company that sold domestic appliances. She launched and edited the monthly magazine Mon chez moi (My Home), the institute's organ. In 1924 Bernège presented a paper on household management to the Congress of scientific management in Paris, and founded the Syndicat des appareils ménagers et de l’organisation ménagère (Union of household appliances and home management). In 1925 the Institut d'organisation ménagère became the Ligue d’organisation ménagère (League for Household Efficiency).

She visited the United States, Amsterdam, Glasgow, Brussels, Rome, Prague, Switzerland and Scandinavia. Christine Frederick visited France in April 1927, where Bernège quickly arranged a meeting of the League for Household Efficiency, Association for Household Electric Appliances and Mon Chez Moi, at which the Minister of Housing presided. Frederick wrote, "In France a small but brave attempt is being made by my brilliant self-sacrificing friend, Mlle. Paulette Bernège, who has sponsored and directs that unique home-management periodical, Mon-Chez-Moi which more than perhaps any other in Europe is attempting to educate the woman in modern scientific housekeeping.". The Comité national de l’organisation française (CNOF) was founded in 1925 by a group of journalists and consulting engineers who saw Taylorism as a way to expand their client base.

Along with the Liga, she supported laws which provided for the care of abandoned children, for removal of discriminatory pay scales for women, and for the political enfranchisement of women. From 1924, women's suffrage legislation was introduced by the Liga and its supporters to the legislature in 1925, 1929, 1931, 1932, 1934 and 1939, without success. She published articles in various newspapers, like La Tribuna, throughout the 1920s and in April 1931 became the director and editor-in-chief of Revista costarricense (Costa Rican Magazine), continuing as director until 1948, when the publication ceased production. The magazine aimed to address a wide range of women's issues from home management, to education, to hygiene and childcare, to civic responsibilities, and the moral and religious development of women and children.

Encouraged by the reports of the Third International Conference of the Red Cross on first aid training, she created the Argentine First Aid Society in 1892, publishing a book on the care of accident victims. Taking part in 1892 in the first cesarean section performed in Argentina, she founded the National Obstetrics Association in 1901, and its journal, Revista Obstétrica. Emma Üffing (8 April 1914 - 9 September 1955) - in religious Maria Euthymia - was a German Roman Catholic professed religious from the Clemens Sisters (official title: Sisters of Charity of the Blessed Virgin and Our Lady of Sorrows). Üffing was born to humble farmers and worked as an apprentice in home management until she decided to enter the religious life in the interwar period - she assumed her religious name in honor of a nun she once knew. Üffing worked in various German hospitals in her religious career and she also tended to ill people during World War II. She tended to foreigners who were admitted into these hospitals such as Russian and British people and was hailed as an "Angel of Love" due to her affectionate care of the patients under her care. Her cause for sainthood was initiated under Pope Paul VI on 9 January 1976 and she was titled as a Servant of God before Pope John Paul II named her as Venerable on 1 September 1988 and later beatified her on 7 October 2001.

It originated in 1890 as the Police Convalescent Home, originally at 11 Portland Road and later at on Kingsway, both in Hove. The latter was deemed too small by 20 April 1985, on which date the Police Convalescent Home Management Committee purchased Flint House and its surrounding 14 acre estate in Goring-on-Thames as a replacement. After renovation works, Flint House was opened as a Police Rehabilitation Centre by Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother on 2 June 1988. The house, by Ernest Newton (1913), had previously been a training centre for the Water Industry Training Board, and later Thames Water, complete with a complex system of pipes for trainees to detect leaks. The centre has 152 bedrooms, split across two separate buildings - the original Flint House building, and the Flint Fold annexe, which was opened in 2003. By 2010, the centre had treated more than 30,000 officers, about 40% of whom had been injured on duty, with the remainder being treated for what the centre called “accumulated wear and tear”.

FERA provided roughly 100 student jobs in 1934, which allowed students to work 55 hours a month for $0.30 an hour for a total of $15 a month; 12% of students secured part-time jobs that year. By 1935, the Public Works Administration (PWA), the Works Progress Administration (WPA), and the National Youth Administration (NYA) also provided employment assistance. Mayo Hall (Boys' Dormitory) in 1941 East Dormitory (Girls' Dormitory) in 1941 The NYA provided between 87 and 144 jobs every year between 1935 and 1940. By 1942–43, its final year, the NYA only employed 72 students, most of whom were employed in the library, physical education department, or the registrar's office. Furthermore, thanks to $106,000 from the PWA and a $108,000 federal grant, respectively, ETSTC was able to build Mayo Hall (a men's dormitory) in 1935 and East Dormitory (for women, later renamed Henderson Hall) in 1939. Other campus buildings built during Whitley's presidency included Whitley Gymnasium in 1935, a new football and track stadium in 1936, a new Science and Industrial Building, and a home management house in 1936. In 1930, the Board of Regents allowed the teachers colleges in the state to offer master's degrees.

Felipe C. Galeon succeeded Gabertan as principal. During his time additional buildings were constructed like the girls' dormitory, social hall, and practice house, until his promotion to the General Office, Manila in the later part of 1960. Following Galeon as principal was Perfecto C. Boncato, who was transferred from Bilar Rural High School, Bilar, Bohol. Boncato was able to construct the Related Subjects and Home Management buildings, and laid out the school playground. When Boncato left in 1966, Arturo Cubangbang, Santiago T. Medrano, and Federico S. Zamora were temporarily designated as officers-in- charge until the transfer of Gregorio C. Alava, principal of Davao National Regional Agricultural School to BUNAS in school year 1966-1967. Alava was later replaced by Felipe C. Badua who was promoted as principal effective on June 23, 1967, and as vocational school administrator I on July 1, 1974, until his retirement on May 27, 1985. On June 21, 1969, the Bunawan National Agricultural School (BUNAS) was converted into Southern Agusan National Agricultural College (SANAC) through Republic Act No. 5917 which was sponsored by then Congressman Jose C. Aquino of Agusan. Congressman Democrito O. Plaza during SY 1969-70 included in the General Appropriations Act for the operation of SANAC.
