A similar-condition used ball is also used if the ball is ever lost in the course of play (for example, if a ball hit for six becomes irretrievable). In 2007 the International Cricket Council (ICC) brought in a new law stipulating that, in ODIs, after 35 overs have been bowled the ball must be replaced with a clean used ball. In 2011 this rule was changed so that a different ball is used at each end, thus each ball getting used for 25 overs. The balls used in ODIs are white and become discoloured very easily, especially on dusty or abrasive pitches, and thus the ball change is deemed necessary to ensure that the ball is easily visible.

Dennis Breakwell (born 2 July 1948) is a former English first-class cricketer who made over 400 appearances between 1969 and 1984 playing for Northamptonshire and Somerset County Cricket Clubs. A left-handed batsman and slow left-arm orthodox bowler, Breakwell developed into an all-rounder as his career progressed, and he featured in a series of strong Somerset sides alongside Viv Richards, Joel Garner and Ian Botham, rooming with the latter in his early days at the club. Following the end of his playing career he became groundsman at King's College, Taunton coaching among others England batsman Jos Butler and Somerset's Alex Barrow. Breakwell is best remembered for being hit for six consecutive sixes by South African all-rounder Mike Procter in the Gloucestershire versus Somerset County Championship match at Taunton on the 27th of August, 1979.

Acknowledged as the most cerebral of the dance bandleaders, throughout his career, Artie Shaw had an uneasy relationship with popularity. Preferring to record songs for perceived artistic value rather than cater to popular demand, in 1938, his second band (after "Art Shaw and His New Music" in the middle 30s) struck massive success with "Begin the Beguine", a number-one hit for six weeks; From then on, the Shaw outfits were some of the most popular of the Swing era. However, critics speculated Shaw never wanted the massive amount of success he received. Frustrated with the way his black musicians such as Billie Holiday were treated, the commercial nature of playing hit songs repetitively, and the music business in general, Shaw disbanded his orchestra in November 1939 and took 2 months off in a brief move to Acapulco, Mexico.

McMillan's Test debut came at Lord's but as a bowler he was unable to make any impact, failing to take a wicket; he scored 17 in his only innings. His Test innings, according to later reports, included a hit for six off England captain and off-spinner Jack White which landed on the head of a lieutenant-general in the stands. Vincent was fit again for the third and fourth Tests, but immediately after the fourth Test, McMillan took eight first-innings wickets for 50 runs against Somerset and 10 for 86 in the match. This led to his recall for the final Test of the series at The Oval and, on a batsman's wicket, he did better than he had done at Lord's, taking three wickets for 78 runs in England's innings and then making an unbeaten 50 in a big South African total.
