At hypersonic speeds, the heat flux from shock waves and air friction on the body of an aircraft, especially at the nose and leading edges, becomes considerable, as the temperature is proportional to the square of the Mach number. This work showed that during westward flow, the BLT in the western Pacific along the equator (138oE-145oE, 2oN-2oS) was between 18 m – 35 m corresponding with warm SST and serving as an efficient storage mechanism for heat. The X-7 laid the foundation for the AQM-60 Kingfisher. Being the testbed for several yearlong projects, the X-7 underwent many structural changes to adapt more closely for its intended purpose.
