Three hayracks from another perspective. View toward Road 633. Studor v Bohinju is known for its group of wooden hayracks just below the village. The double structure of these hayracks is particular to the area and the Studor v Bohinju group of hayracks has been declared an architectural monument.

From 2010 until 2013, the Municipality of Šentrupert in southeastern Slovenia built the first ever open-air museum "Land of Hayracks" (slovene: Dežela kozolcev) in the southern part of Šentrupert, its administrative centre. The collection includes 19 hay drying devices, which includes 17 hayracks, with the oldest from 1795, and presents all types of hayracks. The museum also serves as a venue for events. The main organiser of the project was Rupert Gole, the mayor of Šentrupert.

Since 2001, it has been protected as a cultural monument of national significance and is the only hayrack in Slovenia with this status. As the most known of over 500 hayracks in the Mirna Valley it supplements the Land of Hayracks, i.e. the museum of hayracks in Šentrupert. Exhibitions of visual arts and other events take place seasonally under its roof, however it is also still used to dry hay and as a place to store agricultural machines.

Over 650 hayracks have been counted in the Mirna Valley, where the settlement lies. The largest of them and in the entire country is the Simončič Hayrack.

The typical houses are two-story steep-roofed buildings of the Cerkno type, some of which were still had thatched roofs in second half of the 20th century, with farm buildings standing behind them. The hayracks are the double type, known as the toplar.

It lies on the eastern slopes of the Gorjanci Hills, close to the border with Croatia. The area was traditionally part of Lower Carniola. Bistrica A hayrack () is a freestanding vertical drying rack found chiefly in Slovenia. Hayracks are permanent structures, primarily made of wood, upon which fodder for animals is dried, although their use is not limited to drying hay. Other food stuffs such as field maize are dried on them as well. Although it is a practical structure, a hayrack is often artistically designed and handcrafted and is regarded by Slovenes as a distinctive form of vernacular architecture that marks Slovene identity.

Message written in Sranan Tongo in the guestbook in the Land of Hayracks, an open-air museum in Slovenia (April 2016) The Sranan Tongo words for "to know" and "small children" are sabi and pikin (respectively derived from Portuguese ' and '). The Portuguese were the first European explorers of the West African coast. A trading pidgin language developed between them and Africans, and later explorers, including the English, also used this creole. Based on its lexicon, Sranan Tongo has been found to have developed as mostly an English- based creole language, because of the early influence of English colonists here, who imported numerous Africans as slaves for the plantations.

Mammals and reptiles are found in the forest and grassland. Also endangered species such as chimpanzees and the western lowland gorilla, to wild cats like African civet, genets, foxes, stone hayracks and antelopes can be found. Deers, caneras, grass cutters and variety of avifauna like banaman turakles and parrots are living in the area. The climate, altitude and vegetation of the lower, middle and upper regions enables the population to grow close to 80% of a variety of food and cash crops grown in the world - from cocoa, coffee, maize, cassava, groundnut, oil palm, cocoyams, pepper, beans and okra in the lower and middle half to the Irish potato, cabbages, carrots, leeks, wheat, ginger of the upper region of regions of M’mouck Leteh and Magha.

The difference in vegetation type gives rise to a variety of wildlife species (mammals, reptiles, birds and insects). The Environment and Rural Development Foundation has listed a number of animal species that could be found in the forest and grassland vegetation of the Wabane Council Area – some that are rare or endangered. Amongst others are the primates (chimpanzees and western lowland mountain gorillas) to wild cats like African civets, genets, foxes, stone hayracks, antelopes, deers, caneras, grass cutters and a variety of avifauna species like the banaman turacle, parrots etc. For fear of extermination of the above-mentioned primates the Environment and Rural Development Foundation is working alongside the Ministry of Wildlife to create a sanctuary in the lower Mundani zone though without some resistance from a fraction of the local population.
