The New Zealand Company purchased the Otago block from Ngāi Tahu dignitaries on 31 July 1844 for £2,400 and gained legal title in 1847, opening the way for large-scale European settlement in Otago on Wakefield lines. The settlement was planned to be named New Edinburgh but instead the local name Otago (a variant of Ōtākou) was used. George Rennie and William Cargill, both from Scotland, along with the Free Church of Scotland were the initial backers of the settlement. The Free Church had split in 1843 in protest at landowners having power over the nomination of ministers.

That by participating in the CC-IME is a mockery and the members only belittle themselves because of the lack of power. After chasing the pair of them back to the ark, Mole and the insect dealer discover that the shills are not the only intruders: other unseen, unwelcome people have been prowling the dark corridors as well. Mole comes to accept the presence of the two shills in exchange for their help in repelling the intruders. But his fantasy of having power over the other residents of the "ark" unwinds as matters become more and more complex. As a brigade of old men, a band of school girls, and a group of wayward youths all come to occupy the hull of the "ark," Mole is forced to abandon his creation, his sanctum breached and his heart broken by the female sakura who rejects his advances.

The Council of Trent held in Italy between 1545 and 1563 and prompted by the Protestant Reformation, commissioned in the seventh canon () of Session XXIV the first Church-wide catechism of the Catholic Church, later known as the Roman Catechism and also as the Catechism of the Council of Trent. A commission of eminent theologians supervised by three cardinals produced a catechism, which was published in Rome under Papal authority, after the Council had concluded, under the Latin title (in-folio). The book notes that the bottom half of the worlds population has seen its wealth shrink to 1.1 percent with global household income shrinking to 3 percent, during the same period that the top ten percent have seen their shares rise to 85.1 and 71.1 percent respectively. Sol B River (born 2 October) is a British writer, director, producer and actor best known for his theatre productions, born Leeds, Yorkshire, England, of (Jamaican) parentage. He was introduced as Writer in Residence (1994–96) to the West Yorkshire Playhouse Leeds by Artistic Director Jude Kelly after writing Moor Masterpieces as his first commissioned production. He immediately became one of the most important and enigmatic theatrical voices in Britain, his work being noted as having power and authority by Time Out magazine, while The Guardian compared his production of To Rhatid to writing like Samuel Beckett on amphetamines.
