Hi-de-Hi! is a BBC television sitcom shown on BBC1 from 1 January 1980 to 30 January 1988. Set in 1959 and 1960 in Maplins, a fictional holiday camp, the show was written by Jimmy Perry and David Croft, who also wrote Dad's Army and It Ain't Half Hot Mum amongst other programmes. The title was the greeting the campers heard and in early episodes was written Hi de Hi. The series revolved around the lives of the camp's entertainers, most of them struggling actors or has-beens.

Julián Torralba is a former film stuntman in Almeria, Spain. He and several of his colleagues, who once made a living in American Westerns shot in Spain, now are reduced to doing stunt shows for minuscule audiences on the decaying set built for those old Westerns. Julián wrestles with dark memories of the death of his son, also a stuntman, and with estrangement from his daughter-in-law Laura and her son Carlos. Carlos, a young boy, becomes intrigued with his late father's life and runs away to join Julián and his band of has-beens.

Magneto shows up with his X-Men, all young and with a few familiar faces like Angel Salvadore, Basilisk, Beak, Dust, Glob Herman, Ernst, No-Girl, Redneck, the Stepford Cuckoos, and Tattoo. Another group of middle-age X-Men eventually do show up, albeit late and pathetic. Cyclops pretends like he’s still the guy leading an entire race, but he just makes a fool of himself. Magneto establishes here that Cyclops and Emma Frost are basically a bunch of has-beens since their powers are fading away. Even the rest of Magneto’s team goes out of their way to berate them and not in a very good way.

After a five-year absence, Dublin and Kerry faced each other in the All-Ireland decider on 23 September 1984. Dublin were the reigning All- Ireland champions and were well fancied to retain the title as Kerry had lost the 1982 All-Ireland final to Offaly and the 1983 Munster final to Cork. Bizarrely, an article in the RTÉ Guide described the Kerry squad as "a cowardly blend of experienced players, has-beens and a few newcomers" and acted as motivation for the entire team. Kerry led by 0-7 to 0-3 at half-time and by six points when Barney Rock scored Dublin's goal.

Montreal was considered to be a heavy favourite as analysts said that the Leafs were just a bunch of has- beens. But Bob Pulford scored the double-overtime winner in game three, Jim Pappin got the series winner in game six, and Keon won the Conn Smythe Trophy as Most Valuable Player of the playoffs as the Maple Leafs won the Stanley Cup in six games. The Leafs have not won the Stanley Cup or even reached the finals since.

Screamland follows the lives of three monsters turned Hollywood movie actors, Frank, the lupine Carl London, and The Count. Frank and Carl are washed up "has beens" that find it extremely difficult to gain regular work and are often forced to make money by very dodgy means- something that is made more difficult by Frank's rampant alcoholism and Carl's short temper and tendency to overindulge in everything. The Count has been more fortunate, as his eternal youth and an ongoing fascination with vampires has ensured that he will always have lucrative work, but the public scrutiny also has his price. While The Count is still popular, he feels that he has to hide his homosexuality in fear that the public will turn on him.

In appearances on The Howard Stern Show, he had insisted that he intended to leave Idol to pursue a career in stand-up comedy and acting, but in 2008, Dunkleman admitted to Stern that he believed leaving the show was a mistake. Dunkleman conceded that he experienced several months of depression, and also still harbored resentment against current show host Ryan Seacrest, but has come to terms with his situation. Stern has compared Dunkleman to Pete Best of The Beatles and several other famous celebrities who chose to leave (or were forced to leave) successful show business careers, only to wind up as has-beens. Taking a camera team to America, Hammar and Wikingsson filmed a series of multi-day interviews with minor celebrities and has-beens such as Fabio Lanzoni, Pamela Anderson, Ron Jeremy, Tonya Harding, Uri Geller and Gary Busey. Rather than just sitting down and talking, they follow the stars around for several days and engage themselves in various everyday activities of the celebrities' lives. Aside from instances when the hosts are speaking privately with each other or to the camera or camera operators, the series is almost entirely in English. With varying levels of success and hilarity, Hammar and Wikingsson are welcomed into the lives of infamous personalities who often introduce them to their families, sing songs with them and take the Swedes to their favorite restaurants or recreation spots.

In February, Marostica was the only Republican who announced plans to support legislation to repeal Colorado's Arveschoug-Bird limit, which capped the growth of general fund expenditures at 6 percent per year. Marostica faced pressure from prominent Republicans, including Independence Institute President Jon Caldara and former state treasurer Mark Hillman, to drop his support; in response, he referred to Hillman and Caldera as "has-beens" and "losers," earning him additional criticism from House Republicans; Marostica later promised to apologize to Hillman and Caldera. Marostica was the prime sponsor of the bill in the House, where, after surviving an attempted Republican filibuster in the Senate, it was ratified, and later signed into law. Five members of the Flash's Rogues Gallery - Captain Boomerang I, Captain Cold, Heat Wave, the Mirror Master III and the Weather Wizard - are approached with an offer by fellow Rogues Gallery member Abra Kadabra, who had become an agent of the demon Neron in exchange for true magical powers to replace his technology-based magical powers. Abra Kadabra persuades them to cause havoc by destroying five separate targets (an arms depot by Captain Boomerang I, a nuclear reactor by Captain Cold, a dormant volcano by Heat Wave, an oil field by the Mirror Master III and a chemical dump by the Weather Wizard) simultaneously, with the promise of "respect" and "a guarantee that they would be remembered forever, not as has-beens but as the most infamous villains of their age". But Neron's deals are demonic, twisted and unfair and they were not told that their actions would cost all of them their lives and unleash Neron upon Earth. All five are killed in the ensuing explosions (which consume them in green fire), the flames of which form the points of a pentagram that creates a gateway which releases Neron.
